Seven Heaven 30/9/20

Finnish Melodic Death Metallers Mors Principium Est are back via AFM Records on Friday 23rd October with their seventh album, the short and snappy entitled 'Seven', but no less impressive and epic than its predecessors. It's a perfect continuation from where they left off with 'Embers Of A Dying World' in 2017: Death Metal, which is almost Progressive in its brutality, combined with sophisticated orchestrations that, used sparingly, never drown in bombast, and fuse with dramatic, melancholic melodies. Next year, singer Ville Viljanen and British guitarist Andy Gillion will introduce MPE's ten brand new songs, when they join Wolfheart on an extensive European tour, together with a cast of top notch live musicians.

Introducing ....... Vicious Rooster 30/9/20

Singer-songwriter Juan Abella kick-started the comeback of his musical project, Vicious Rooster, last month, with the release of its latest single, 'The Moon Is Dancing', which today's Video Of The Day. Simultaneously, the track was presented live at Chicago's annual Ruido Fest Festival, sharing the virtual musical bill with Bandalos Chinos, Francisca Valenzuela and other great artists. Vicious Rooster combines elements of Classic Rock with tints of Southern Rock and a hint of Grunge, influenced by an elite palette of renown artists such as Led Zeppelin, The Black Crowes and Alice In Chains, among others, to create its soulful sound. After moving from his native Argentina, Juan moved to Los Angeles, where he released Vicious Rooster's debut album, 'The Darkest Light", in 2017.

Rory Gallagher CD Review 29/9/20

"As you listen through this collective, you can see why so many big name guitarists, from the likes of Jimi Hendrix, Brian May, Slash, Joe Bonamassa and Johnny Marr, credit Rory as their hero. Rory regularly switched styles from Blues to mainstream Rock mixing in Celtic riffing and sometimes stretching to the more Hard Rock drive you find in ‘Moonchild’. The stand out tracks for me are the epic ‘Ghost Blues’ (7 minutes 59 seconds), building from an acoustic base, the grooving ‘Bought and Sold’ and the vocal rich ‘Philby’.”

Today read another one of our great Lockdown album reviews, as Geoff C. gives you his take here on 'The Best Of Rory Gallagher', that's due to be released on Friday 9th October, of which 'Walk On Hot Coals' is today's Video Of The Day.

Thunderstick Mantra 29/9/20

Following the announcement last year that NWOBHM drumming legend Thunderstick planned to reform his eponymously named band, he has now confirmed the final addition to the line-up, guitarist, Steve Mantra. Also complementing Raven Blackwing – vocals, Rex Thunderbolt – bass and Vinny Konrad – guitar, Mantra, who first started playing guitar at the age of 15, has always had a love for Rock and Metal, and this is evident in the Academy of Contemporary Music graduate's playing style and ability. Currently the band are using Lockdown to work on new ideas, perfect their stage act and are also busy recording a much anticipated album which will be released through Roulette Records mid-2021.

Innovative British Rockers Cypher16 have unveiled the third song, and the title track from their upcoming second full-length album, 'It's A Long Way Back (From This Road)', which is today's Track Of The Day. A refreshingly original Rock band, Cypher16 harnesses Metal with a hint of modern Industrial to create a truly massive sound. Consisting of Jack Doolan - vocals/guitars, Will Cass - guitars/vocals, Rich Hinks - bass and Declan Doran - drums, the band’s debut album, 'The Great Surveyor', was released in October 2015 to rave reviews.

Cross To Bare 28/9/20

Last Friday, Welsh Hard-Rockers Eulogy released today's brand new Video Of The Day, ‘Cross To Bare’, via One Eyed Toad Records, which is taken from their recent EP ‘Memento Mori’. The video itself - featuring the band members performing in front of a fiery backdrop - is home-shot: a testament to the band’s personal hard work and DIY ethic even during the Coronavirus pandemic. Recorded at Coda Recording Studios and mixed and mastered by Neil Garland; ‘Cross To Bare’ showcases the band’s Melodic Hard Rock sound. The powerful vocals of lead singer and bassist Neil Thomas take centre stage; backed by equally powerful lyrics - the track depicts the feelings of losing someone close, and ultimately dealing with that loss.

Bad Touch Photo Gallery 27/9/20

Well, it's been a long, long time, but well worth waiting for, as today we share our first gig photo gallery here for over six months, taken by Mr. Rockrpix himself, John Bull, at Bad Touch's Leo's Red Lion gig on Friday night in Gravesend, Kent. Despite it being a masked socially distanced limited capacity seated gig on the outdoor stage, John reported back that Bad Touch were great as expected, as were of course John's photos!

Trial Of Escapade 27/9/20

Releasing their debut album, 'Luggage Falling Down', this past April, Los Angeles' Lufeh (a band of both Brazilian and American musicians) recently shared today's Video Of The Day, 'Trial Of Escapade', the last video from the series that they have been sharing over these past few months. It showcases their high energy and knack for performing, and, indeed, Lufeh's debut album was a trying, yet successful first recording for Gera Penna – keys, Duca Tambasco – bass, Dennis Atlas – vocals, Teo Dornellas – guitar and Lufeh Batera - drums, who lived together for two weeks throughout the process, sharing their blend of Progressive Rock injected with Jazz styles, Heavy Metal foundations and rhythmic Brazilian influences. For fans of Dream Theater, Incubus and Haken, Lufeh is smooth and rhythmic Progressive Metal; heavy chords followed by light melodies and the occasional crazy guitar solo.

Silver Moon (For Neal) 27/9/20

Kenny Roby has shared the video for 'Silver Moon (For Neal)', today's Track Of The Day, off his new, critically-acclaimed album 'The Reservoir'. Written in memory of longtime friend and collaborator Neal Casal, the initial spark for the song came to Roby a year ago to the day following the memorial concert for the late musician at The Capitol Theatre in Port Chester, New York State, on September 25th, 2019. The video created by Angie Pickman, using cut paper art animation, captures the sentiment of the song's lyrics, including stark, moving verses. Indeed, Casal was set to produce Roby's album, but took his own life shortly before the recording sessions were to begin.

Happiness Is Mine 26/9/20

'Revelino' will be released on vinyl on Friday 9th October – 26 years to the week since the original release date of their eponymous debut album, of which the lead single, 'Happiness Is Mine' is today's Video Of The Day. At that time, the album received rave reviews, and now it has now been remastered with a bonus six-track EP featuring a remixed 'Happiness Is Mine'. The remaing tracks are five previously unreleased songs including 'Try It On' and 'Ennio' (a timely rediscovery following maestro Ennio Morricone’s recent passing), originally outtakes from album, that have been remixed. 'The Only One Alive' and 'Little Bird' are demos that have been salvaged and remastered from cassette, and 'Place In The Sun' features the band’s much-missed departed friend Gavin Ralston.

Rock Vault Kiss 26/9/20

We're playing catch up again on today's Track Of The Day, as you can listen again to the second Rock Vault 107 show broadcast, including Kiss, Sammy Hagar (pictured), Scorpions, Nazareth, Primal Scream, The Eagles and more. Indeed, you can also listen live to Jules and Bob every Friday night at 8pm on 107 Meridian FM. Taking you back in time, they'll bring you tracks that you may know and some you may not, plus they always feature a special year.

Red Lion Touch Tonight 25/9/20

"Plenty of Southern Rock swagger and foot stomping runs right through the album from the opener ‘Come A Little Closer’ to the closing number ‘Something About Your Kiss’. An interesting choice of cover version comes in the form of ‘I’ve Got The Music In Me’, originally recorded by Kiki Dee (possibly a breaker into mainstream radio). It’s the ballad ‘See You Again’ that makes for the stand out track, falling a little more mid-Atlantic, similarly with the following track, ‘Before I Die’." That was part our take here on Bad Touch's latest album 'Kiss The Sky', and the guys return tonight between 7pm and 10pm to Leo's Red Lion, Crete Hall Road, Northfleet, Gravesend, Kent DA11 9AA, to perform a social distanced limited capacity gig on the outdoor stage, rain or shine - so bring appropriate clothing!

Highway To Heartbreak 25/9/20

One of the hottest AOR acts to emerge from the European Melodic Rock scene, Stardust release their debut full-length album, 'Highway To Heartbreak', on Friday 9th October, of which their track, '2nd Hand Love', is today's Video Of The Day. Indeed, their self-titled debut EP created quite a buzz, and the band were subsequently snapped up by Frontiers. Professing a love of Def Leppard, Winger, Journey and other 80's artists, the Hungarian quintet have taken those influences and added their own stamp, which is an amalgam of Classic Melodic Hard Rock and AOR, with hooky choruses, exquisite keyboards, vocal harmonies and loud guitars. Renowned US songsmith Mark Spiro (Bad English, House Of Lords, Giant) and Swedish guitar hero Tommy Denander have also contributed to the writing and production for the album.

Lockdown Live 2020 23/9/20

European Blues Award winner Erja Lyytinen will release her ‘Lockdown Live 2020’ as a live album CD and DVD package on Friday 6th November. The album brilliantly captures a historic moment in time, as it was filmed and recorded during the Covid-19 pandemic, and is in advance of Erja’s February UK tour next year. Indeed, Lyytinen was in the middle of one of her busiest times of her career when the pandemic struck, and at the start of this year, Erja was riding the crest of a wave, given her touring and promotional activities were catalysed by a string of high-profile achievements during 2019. This live recording takes a retrospective look back on Lyytinen’s long and successful career, and with such a vast back catalogue behind her, Erja was quite literally ‘Torn’ (a track from her 2019 release, 'Another World'), in choosing the songs to feature in her setlist and this subsequent concert album.

It's free entry with all social distancing and Covid-19 measures in place, although the venue has recommended advance bookings by phoning 01728 830025.

Talk Of The Town 22/9/20

Ayreon will be releasing a brand-new studio album ‘Transitus', this Friday 25th September via Music Theories Recordings, and prior to its release they have unveiled the fourth and final lyric (behind-the-scenes) video of 'Talk Of The Town', which is today's Video Of The Day. It's most possibly the most Ayreon-ish track on the album, although 'Transitus' is built around an entirely new story, not connected to the Ayreon universe, although as always it does have some subtle links. The Sci-Fi theme makes way for a Gothic ghost story set (partly) in the 19th century with elements of horror and the supernatural. As with any Ayreon album, it is an explosive and expansive affair and features one of the most iconic and recognisable voices in Sci-Fi history, most known from his eight-year stint as Doctor Who, Tom Baker.

Blues On The Radio Squeeze 22/9/20

On this week's Blues On The Radio Track Of The Day, Richard Dunning attempts to squeeze even more music into his show! It's all a bit frantic, but there are so many great albums that he we wants you to hear, including Eric Johanson, Samantha Martin & Delta Sugar, Mike Ross, Susan Santos (pictured), Jeffrey Halford and more.

Lee Kerslake 21/9/20

Last weekend, iconic former Ozzy Osbourne and Uriah Heep drummer Lee Kerslake passed away from cancer at the age of 73. The Osbournes recently agreed to grant Kerslake his dying wish of receiving his platinum albums, after being contacted by Metal Hall of Fame President/CEO Pat Gesualdo. Gesualdo informed the Osbournes that Kerslake had terminal cancer, and that he wanted to help mend the legendary three decade old, ongoing, headline grabbing feud, which was levied over financial payments and song royalties between the Osbournes and Kerslake. After conversations and much strategising, the Osbournes and Gesualdo arranged to have the Platinum record awards presented as a surprise to Kerslake for his Induction into the Metal Hall of Fame, at the Annual Metal Hall of Fame Celebrity Gala. Kerslake had been working on a solo album entitled 'Eleventeen'. A much anticipated documentary on Lee featuring Kiss, Uriah Heep, Ozzy Osbourne band members and other rockstars has been in production by film maker Tayla Goodman, and is waiting to be finalised.

Something To Believe 21/9/20

All too relevant for those of us struggling through the pandemic and adjusting to lockdown, President Street made a triumphant return in June with today's Track Of The Day, ‘Something to Believe’, which tells the inspirational tale of overcoming adversity and pain, and looking towards a future where you can rely unwaveringly on yourself. Born from Pete Moses’ discovery of his passion for music production, in partnership with vocalist and songwriter Ruby, ‘Something to Believe’ begins with Ruby’s characteristically honey-sweet vocal in an acapella introduction which immediately sets the tone and introduces the hook of the song. The production is slick, as it kickstarts the rest of the song, with trip-hop inspired rhythms which support and solidify the intimate and personal delivery of Ruby’s lyrics. The result is that of a wholly confident artist, with a song that screams triumphant independence from every aspect of its assured and assertive sound.

This Party's Over 21/9/20

Today's Video Of The Day is Fish's brand new single, ‘This Party’s Over’, the latest song to be taken from his highly anticipated final studio release, the solo double album, 'Weltschmerz', which will be released this Friday 25th September. ‘This Party’s Over’ is an honest and reflective song from Fish, which as he explains was inspired by, “when I started to become concerned about my drinking”. Having long been a renowned bon vivant, but in recent years changed his habits, the song mirrors this transformation with upbeat Folk-infused Rock focusing on the positives of change. The captivating video finds Fish performing the song, wine glass in hand, as animations come to life around him reflecting the lyrics of the track. It is an extraordinary piece of work that brings down the curtain on the Scotsman’s hugely successful musical career.

Stream Tea With JB Today 20/9/20

Joe Bonamassa will perform a special live stream pay per view concert from the legendary Ryman Auditorium in Nashville, Tennessee, here today at 4pm Eastern/1pm Pacific/9pm UK time. This concert will feature songs from his new album 'Royal Tea' before its official release on Friday 23rd October. Joe has never performed a full, unreleased album for audiences like this before, giving fans from around the world the opportunity to come together for an unforgettable night of Blues Rock music. Along with 'Royal Tea' he’ll perform classic remixes from his 20th anniversary album 'A New Day Now'. The evening will also continue with a one hour “After-Party Showcase” featuring several live performances from an array of some of the hottest rising stars in Blues Rock music.

Mason Hill Against The Wall 20/9/20

Hotly tipped Scottish Rock outfit, Mason Hill, released their new single 'Against The Wall' last Friday via 7Hz Recordings (ADA), and today's Track Of The Day is the title track taken from their debut album, which will be released next year on Friday 5th March. To trace the Mason Hill story to its origin, Scott Taylor and James Bird met at school in Glasgow. At the age of 14, Bird was already an accomplished, award-winning, gifted guitar prodigy, and teenager Taylor already harboured dreams of fronting a Rock ’n’ Roll band. Consequently the pair’s friendship and shared aspirations led them to form Mason Hill in 2013, adding drummer Craig McFetridge, bassist Matthew Ward and guitarist Marc Montgomery in due course. Five diverse, colourful characters, these ambitious young men were instantly bonded by a shared, singular vision, which now has finally paid dividends with their forthcoming debut release.

Superfecta Breathe In 20/9/20

Grunge rockers Superfecta released their first new track in two years via their music platform Aurovine last Friday, and today's Video Of The Day, 'Breathe In', was written by lead singer Rob Negrini, and is the first part of a trilogy of recordings for the London band. New bassist Joe Head is introduced for the first time, as 'Breathe In' marks a turn in direction to a more aggressive, darker sound, that sees no holding back with the opening riff, and an edgy and potent threat of distorted guitar. Each passage builds in tempo and intensity with similarities to Alice In Chains during their 'Dirt' era. Matt Vella pounds the drums throughout each chord struck like an army general, as Negrini croons over solid basslines, delivering vocals full of emotion and sincerity. Head brings a new dynamic to their sound, as evidence in the intro, and later on in the instrumental break. The song writing is more polished, as Head’s vibrant bass work allows Danun Todd freedom to fire up a tantalising solo that evokes images of Tony Iommi in his heyday! Superfecta are back hungrier, darker, and with an appetite for more heavier music.

Green Eel Pie Tonight 19/9/20

Yes that's right! Following their sell-out Eel Pie Club gig last year celebrating the music of Peter Green, guitarists/vocalists Tim Hain and Robin Bibi will again be performing tonight the music of the late legendary guitarist plus some of their own original songs, at The Cabbage Patch, 67 London Road, Twickenham TW1 3SZ. Click On Me Day 19/9/20

Los Angeles, California, The City of Angels... cross-genre Rock ‘n’ Roller Derek Day is emerging from the creative cauldron of quarantine with a timely, provocative new single, 'Click On Me', now available on all digital platforms, and it's accompanied by a very current and apt 3D animated Video Of The Day. The guitar virtuoso  is also joined by venerable Living Colour guitarist Vernon Reid, whose eclectic career blending everything from Punk to Funk is a natural complement to Day’s own encompassing signature sound, driven by a wide variety of influences, including Classic Rock, R&B, Soul, Funk and Pop. The track is the result of a collaborative process between Day and Reid which began in 2018, with Vernon co-writing, producing and arranging the track, complemented by Derek's lyrics, a thoughtful meditation on themes of loneliness, desire and artifice, in how people present themselves in the crafting of their online identities. In a final bit of thematic synchronicity, the release will be celebrated with a socially distanced virtual live show streaming on Facebook Live which will be announced via social media in an apt twist.

Simply Country Jolly 19/9/20

The legendary Industrial/Rap/Rock/Funk politically active and socially critical 90's band, Consolidated, have reunited for a one-time album release through Cargo Records later this year, plus a European tour pencilled in from May to July next year. Indeed, since breaking up in the 1990's, the left leaning group, consisting of Adam Sherburne: guitar, vocals, Mark Pistel: samples, sequencers and keyboards/synths and Lynn Farmer (Meat Beat Manifesto): drums, have decided to bring a well-needed message to the world during this time of great division. Formed in 1988, the Americans are best known in the early 1990's as an Alternative Dance band, and between 1989 and 1994 their instrumental style evolved from Industrial, to Hip-Hop, to Hard Rock and Funk, with mixtures of live and electronic instruments. They were also distinguished by their radical lyrics, as well as their innovative sonic collages.

Jake Vegas & The Black Diamonds Gig Review 17/9/20

"Their set comprised of covers of Blues standards with a sprinkling of Punkish Rockabilly, with Wiersma at times employing a chuck Berry picking-style on what looks like a Rickenbacker guitar (some murmurings from the crowd suggest it’s something a bit more special than that). The rousing chorus of 'Three Hundred Pounds of Joy' (a Howlin’ Wolf cover) reverberated around the famous 100 Club room, accompanied by much whooping and hollerin’. The final blow was delivered by a rollicking version of 'I Want My Fanny Brown', and then straight to Trisha’s to dowse themselves in Whisky."

Yes you read it correctly! Do you remember the good old days when you used to go to a gig? Well today, Ivan De Mello literally takes us back in time here, with his review of Jake Vegas & The Black Diamonds at London's 100 Club on Tuesday 10th March.

Stone Deaf Killers 17/9/20

Last Tuesday, Colorado's Stone Deaf released their new single, and today's Video Of The Day, 'Polaroid', on Coffin And Bolt Records, taken from their upcoming album 'Killers'. Crafting a sound that encompasses Desert Rock, laced with a Stoner Rock vibe and a subtle U.S. Punk edge, Stone Deaf produce a unique fusion of sonic goodness. Formed in late 2014, the band's approach to music is a timeless fusion of melody and driving rhythms blending the Rock vibes of The Hellacopters and Queens of The Stone Age with the sludgy thickness of Kyuss along with the Punk sensibility of TSOL and Agent Orange, changing gears between chugging riffs, Punk rhythms and laid back moments of unadulterated heaviness. With more hooks than Tyson, 'Polaroid' is an auditory striptease you can’t turn away from.

Laced In Lust's First Bite 17/9/20

Australia's naughty sons of Adelaide, Laced In Lust, recently signed to Rockshots Records for the release of their debut full length 'First Bite', due out in 2021, and the band have teased fans with their first single, and today's Track Of The Day, 'Save Me (L.I.L. Woman)', taken from the forthcoming album. Sharing tours across Australia and Europe with Crashdiet, Fear Factory, Gloryhammer, Tygers of Pan Tang plus a sound frequently described as a "Sleazy Status Quo" with the image of the "Sunset Strip", Laced In Lust have been turning heads since their first show in April 2012. Indeed, this 14 track debut album is a diverse record with some major Sleaze elements to hold true to the genre, but also has some just good ol' Aussie Rock 'n' Roll tones with a slice of dirty Blues.

Rising Up To The Fall 16/9/20

With hopeful eyes focused on the future, Blues Rock singer/songwriter Sari Schorr has announced 2021 European dates starting in March, following the postponement of her headline tour this year. Despite being grounded in New York because of Covid-19, Sari has still made the time, not only to make a haunting video, set to her 2016 track ‘Ordinary Life’, using her iPhone, showing striking scenes of the city in social isolation and lockdown, but also more recently, she has made a brand-new, and very topical video, ‘The New Revolution’, which has indeed resonated with a lot of people.

Rapacious 16/9/20

London based four-piece outfit After Smoke Clears are smashing the underground Metal scene, garnering formidable attention with their onslaught of aggressive, high adrenaline new-core pre-album 2020 releases, such as today's Track Of The Day, and their fifth creation, 'Rapacious', taken from their debut album, 'Edification', due out on Thursday 12th November. 'Rapacious' is the first of a three-part music video trilogy depicting the demise of the human race, from imagined dystopia into bleak reality. Part 1 focuses on greed, over indulgence of objects, brands as false idols, and consumerism. Blending Metal, tech and groove to deliver a powerful movement in their music and make heads bang, ‘Edification’ contains ten brand new tracks, sharing a journey through destruction and into self realisation.

Time For A Miracle 16/9/20

Perfect Plan have capitalised on the acclaim afforded to their debut album, following the release at the beginning of this month of their latest album, 'Time For A Miracle' (Video Of The Day), and are fast becoming one of the leading Melodic Rock bands around. Sometimes the stars align to create exactly the right balance of talent within a group, and Perfect Plan is the perfect (pun intended) example of this: a superb singer, a well-oiled group of experienced players and great songwriting talent with a knack for unforgettable melodies and driving rhythms. ‘In And Out Of Love’ kickstarted the promotion of their 2018 debut album ‘All Rise’, and the band have returned with what is a major step forward. Opting for a heavier and more in your face sound, they have matured and achieved an outstanding balance of melody and energy that references the sound of both classic predecessors (Foreigner, Survivor, The Storm, Giant) plus Scandinavian AOR with a recognisable yet highly personal feel.

We Fly Free 15/9/20

British husband and wife Blues Rock duo When Rivers Meet release their self-penned debut album ‘We Fly Free’ on Friday 20th November, with their first single, 'Battleground', which will be released on Friday 9th October, and follows Grace and Aaron Bond's critically acclaimed EP’s ‘The Uprising’ and ‘Innocence of Youth’. Their passion for Blues Rock shows through with an underpinning of traditional Blues and Classic Rock. Indeed, the duo have made a concerted effort to keep to a genuine, gritty sound using authentic techniques, including tube tape echo and reverb chambers, which have created a live sound that keeps a truly vintage vibe that not only has energy but is also a true representation of the ever evolving sound this duo produces.

Sound Of Rain 15/9/20

Modern Rock 3-piece Firekind self-release ‘What I Have Found Is Already Lost’ Deluxe Edition on Friday 30th October, of which their second single, ‘Sound of Rain’, is today's Video of The Day. Fusing epic, soaring vocal and guitar melodies with driving, powerful drums and bass, the Devon based band consists of brothers Jas Morris (vocals and previous Guitarist Magazine Guitarist of the Year winner), Dan Morris (bass, keys) and Robin Shute (drums), although original drummer and close friend of the band, Dan Collings played on the album. With Hard Rock and Prog roots spiced with an arena sound blent in, it’s hard to pigeon hole them which bodes to a myriad of Rock tastes. This is a theme throughout, augmented by the acoustic bonus tracks which were recorded and produced by Jas and Dan in their home studio during the Covid-19 lockdown.

Blues On The Radio Apocalypse 15/9/20

Overthinker 14/9/20

Truly a song of our times, the track 'Overthinker' has a Bluesy feel that is carried off to perfection by Georgia and her Retro-Pop band, The Vintage Youth, which is due to be released on Friday 24th September. Calling to mind the great Pop traditions of 60's girl bands, as well as legends such as Amy Winehouse, Janis Joplin and Marc Bolan, Georgia & The Vintage Youth are crafting clever, thoughtful and fun tunes to fit any era. 'Overthinker' is no different, taking the universal themes of the uncertainty and dissatisfaction found in your twenties, and turning it into a catchy party tune with an unmistakable youthful energy and a fresh sound. Indeed, this forthcoming release sees the band taking their next step in their journey, not only melding lyrics with timeless musical ideas, but also sounding completely unique, yet with undeniably widespread appeal at the same time.

Enigma Experience? 13/9/20

The Enigma Experience release their debut album, 'Question Mark', on Friday 13th November via Fuzzorama Records, and the band have also unveiled their brand-new single, ‘Lonewolf’, which is today's Track Of The Day. The track opens with a Funky and Psychedelically charged Primus-esque melody before dropping into a driving groove amid crunching riffs with soaring vocal melodies. The band sees Sweden and Norway joins forces, as Truckfighters guitarist Niklas 'Mr.Dango' Källgren has teamed up with ex-Truckfighters/Witchcraft drummer Oskar 'Pezo' Johansson and Maurice Adams from Breed/Motorfinger on vocals. 'Question Mark' is a very diverse Rock record, ranging from vocal harmonies reminiscent of early 90's grunge heroes such as Soundgarden and Alice In Chains, to a furiously catchy anthem with Kallgren’s trademark fuzz-fuelled sound piercing through.

This American Dream 13/9/20

Kentucky-born, now Nashville-based, Kyle Daniel, has released two new tracks, ‘This American Dream' and ‘Hollerin’ Hills’, accompanied by a powerful, heartfelt Video Of The Day. Kyle has been hailed as a rising talent in the world of Country and Americana, and flagged up as one of the best upcoming artists in the scenes, although his range, appeal and fan following certainly reach beyond those boundaries into Rock, Country Rock and Southern Rock territories. Kyle returned to these shores in March this year, as part of his contribution to C2C's European festivals, and we indeed had the pleasure of interviewing him here. However, after playing the C2C gigs in Berlin and Amsterdam, Kyle had to fly back to the USA early, as the O2 Arena London leg was cancelled because of Covid-19.

Through Shaded Woods 13/9/20

Lunatic Soul, the solo studio music project of creator, vocalist and multi-instrumentalist Mariusz Duda, release their new solo album 'Through Shaded Woods’ on Friday 13th November through Kscope. As the lead singer of the hugely popular Prog Rock band Riverside, Lunatic Soul was created in 2008 as an opportunity for Duda to explore musical territories outside the Rock domain. 'Through Shaded Woods' is not only album # 7 for Lunatic Soul, but it's also a new opening for Duda, as he extends his musical explorations to include dark Scandinavian and Slavic Folk, and it's definitely their most refined and richest sounding album, following on from the heavily electronic sound of previous albums 'Fractured' and 'Under the Fragmented Sky'. Indeed, 'Through Shaded Woods' is completely devoid of electronics and is the first album in Duda’s discography, on which he plays all instruments.

Now with hugely talented female vocalist, Madie (Faith In Agony), complemented by Yves Campion - bass and vocals, Franck Milleliri - guitar, Matt Asselberghs - guitar and vocals, and Niels Quiais - drums, Madie’s soaring vocals add an exquisite extra layer to the tunes, with Symphonic elements adding a heightened, more Progressive feel. Melding hard hitting riffs and pounding, insistent drums from the start, ‘Aeternam’ blends perfectly the raw edged, high energy, Power Metal Nightmare are renown for, with sublime melodies intertwined throughout.

Myles Kennedy & The Conspirators) on vocals and bass, band founder Brandon Fields on lead guitar, Jeremy Asbrock (Gene Simmons, Ace Frehley) on guitar and Matt Starr (Mr. Big, Ace Frehley) on drums. Helion Prime have released their third single and today's Video Of The Day, 'The Gadfly', from the upcoming album, 'Question Everything', due out on Monday 5th October, via their label Saibot Reigns. Based on the Greek philosopher Socrates, the latest single is part of a highly anticipated concept album, with each song revolving around different figures throughout human history that had the courage to question the status quo of their respective worlds/societies. It's been about two years since the band's sophomore release, 'Terror of the Cybernetic Space Monster', and it's the Sacramento Sci-Fi Power Metallers first album with new vocalist Mary Zimmer, who has also accompanied the band on two separate tours of the United States, complemented of course by Jason Ashcraft - rhythm guitars, Chad Anderson - lead guitars, Jeremy Steinhouse - bass and Alex Bosson - drums.

Fight Them All 10/9/20

An up-and-coming Heavy Metal act from Grenoble, Rising Steel are the first ever French signing to Frontiers, who released 'Fight Them All' last Friday, of which today's Track Of The Day, 'Mystic Voices', is taken from the new album. After releasing a debut EP in 2014 and full-length album, ‘Return Of The Warlord’, in 2016, the band shared stages with acts such as Annihilator, Nightmare and Nashville Pussy, which gave them exposure to a larger international audience and alerted them to Frontiers. Following three further years of gigging and writing new material, 'Fight Them All' presents an aggressive mixture of Heavy, Power and Thrash Metal. Explosive riffing, crushing rhythms and headbanging songs are the order of the day as the quintet delivers a sound with influences coming mainly from the 1980’s NWOBHM, Hard Rock and Thrash Metal scenes. Solid and powerful Metal music, the band is inspired by the legacies of legends such as Judas Priest and Iron Maiden and is recommended for fans of the likes of Queensrÿche, Iced Earth and early Metallica.

Crosby Pevar Raymond CD Review 9/9/20

"These two albums constitute CPR’s entire studio output and it’s good to have them available again. If they are well received perhaps it may lead to the reissue on CD of the band’s two live digital albums, ‘Live At Cuesta College’ (1998) and ‘Live At The Wiltern’ (1999).”

Today read another one of our great album reviews, as Gary Smith gives you his take here on not just one, but two albums, 'CPR' and 'Just Like Gravity', released by Crosby Pevar Raymond at the end of July, of which the track, 'Morrison', is today's Video Of The Day.

Get ready to engage hyper-drive as they also launch their first single, 'Journey Through The Twilight Desert’, taken from the album, into the riff time continuum. Mountain Caller are El, Claire and Max, and hail from London, who are driven to tell stories with music and want listeners to conjure up cinematic scenes in their minds. And that they do … in spades, weaving their own unique spell. Indeed, if one needs a sonic ballpark, think a rich amalgam of Progressive Rock, Post Metal and Doom.

Ain't Goin' Down Alone 8/9/20

Last Friday Jim Kirkpatrick released his brand new solo album, ‘Ballad of a Prodigal Son’, on US One Records, of which his latest single taken from the album, ‘Ain’t Goin’ Down Alone’, is today's Video Of The Day. Following on from his 2006 debut ‘Changed Priorities’, this new album took some time to assemble, due to Jim’s FM commitments to touring all over the World, including playing at some of the world’s biggest and most prestigious Rock festivals, and supporting top-flight Rock icons, as well as his recording and touring commitments with some of the UK’s top talent. Having also accumulated over two decades of experience as one of the UK’s most in demand session players, ‘Ballad of a Prodigal Son’ has a very different sound and feel to his debut though. It’s less ‘acoustical’, and indeed Jim has called on a wealth of friends and colleagues in its making, that really showcases where he is today as a guitarist and songwriter.

Having amassed fans all over the world with his astute lyricism and unparalleled sunny disposition, last month singer-songwriter, musician and producer Blanks released his first EP, 'Cheap Sodas And Ice Cream Kisses', of which his Indie Rock anthem earworm lead single, 'Favourite Nightmare', is today's Track Of The Day. Indeed, his debut features some of Blanks’ most beloved and successful compositions so far, drawing heavily from his beloved era of 80's Pop and dance. Check out his euphoric and Summery Pop perfection next May, on his 'Going Places' European tour, that takes in, amongst others, Brighton’s The Great Escape festival.

Great Blue World 7/9/20

At the end of last month, Swedish Indie-Rock juniors Great Park Avenue released their debut single, and today's Video Of The Day, 'Blue World', a colourful explosion of post-Punk glory. Good Time Drew 6/9/20

2020 has been a surprise, but before the worldwide pandemic shut the music industry down, Drew Dixon was able to record four new songs, including his latest single, 'Good Time', all of which will be released one track at a time over the course of this Fall, and will ultimately make up Dixon's new EP. A mix of Delta Blues and Southern Gothic, Dixon's voice provides texture and warmth. His lyrics give characters their life. Originally from Columbia, South Carolina, for the last nine years, Dixon has called Nashville home, while continuing to tour extensively, including both CMA Fest and Bonnaroo last Summer, followed by Europe in the Fall for his first headlining tour, and then opening for Lynyrd Skynyrd and Grand Funk Railroad in the USA.

Zombie Nation 6/9/20

Norwich’s Apollo Stands demonstrate their unique brand of Metalcore on their politically-charged new track, and today's Video Of The Day, ‘Shitty Zombies’, released yesterday on One Eyed Toad Records. 'Shitty Zombies' was recorded in the band’s own custom studio and was mixed and mastered by producer Tom Joy. "The song is not about the much loved George A. Romero's brain-eating, living dead zombies", states vocalist Ry Haze. "No, it's about the brain dead hoard that ‘run’ the world. They feast on the poor and vulnerable, they attack the ones who stand against them and they cast out the ones who could bring them down. This isn't a song about infecting a person, this is a song about infecting a nation."

Run To Me 6/9/20

Steve Lukather and Mascot Label Group/The Players Club recently released a newly recorded composition, and today's Track Of The Day, 'Run To Me', heavily influenced by the artist’s fond connection to music from the late 60’s. Performances include Lukather on guitar, Joseph Williams on keyboards and background vocals, John Pierce from Huey Lewis & The News on bass, alongside Luke’s band-mate and close friend Ringo Starr making a special appearance in both the video and on the record itself. Over the course of five decades Lukather has placed an indelible stamp on Pop culture. Alongside his tenure as the only member of Toto to never take a hiatus from the band, he has performed on thousands of albums as a session musician. Details on Steve’s forthcoming solo album in early 2021 will be shared in the coming months.

Intangible Montgomery 5/9/20

Amy Montgomery will release her debut EP, 'Intangible', on Friday 20th November via 7Hz Music (ADA), of which the title track, and her first single to be released, is today's Bjork-inspired Video Of The Day. The track itself is a shimmering work of Nineties-influenced Alternative Rock with its squalls of guitar feedback lifted by bright, fluttering synths and, like most of Montgomery’s work, the track is very lyrically powerful. Already a musical force of nature, performing with great intensity on both guitar and keyboards, it’s her powerful vocal that has captured attention in big ways, drawing immediate comparisons to Janis Joplin, Anna Calvi and Alanis Morrisette, but with a very modern attitude. A voice with exceptional power but with an individuality all of its own.

Howlin Rain Under The Wheels 5/9/20

Howlin Rain will release 'Under The Wheels: Live From The Coasts, Vol. 2', the second edition in a planned series of live album recordings, on Friday 30th October on Silver Current Records, of which they have recently shared the album's first single 'Calling Lightning Pt. 2'. The new album sees Howlin Rain's trademark Rock 'n' Roll bombast and intricately woven, extended improv passages, swirl into a distinct form of storytelling, expressed through spiraling energy and a near constant flow of form and melody. As a companion to its Vol. 1 predecessor, this latest offering is also drawn from North American coastal tours in 2018 and 2019 that came in support of the band's most recent studio album, 'The Alligator Bride'. Curated by Howlin Rain founder Ethan Miller, it presents favourite song performances selected from different shows along the way.

Stoaked Isolation Sessions 5/9/20

Today's Track Of The Day of 'Diamonds and Rust', featuring Danny Stoakes, Sicilian guitarist Antonello Giliberto and Tygers of Pan Tang drummer Craig Ellis, is the third single taken from 'The Isolation Sessions', a charity album released yesterday, with all money going to the National Emergencies Trust Covid appeal. The album sees Danny performing with a whole host of musicians on an album of his ten favourite re-imagined songs, all reworked and recorded in isolation. From Heavy Metal to Country, Rock and Roll to Folk, it's a huge cross section of music delivered in an entirely different style, thanks to collaborations with the creme de la creme of the current Rock scene.

Echoes From The Deep 4/9/20

Last Wednesday saw the release of The Ocean Dwellers debut album, 'Echoes From The Deep', now available to stream on all good music streaming platforms including Spotify here and YouTube here, of which the Progtastic 'Gulf Stream Part I - V' is today's Video Of The Day. A sort of "Tubular Bells Under The Waves", the music is all instrumentals and soundscapes and could be described as Psychedelic Prog Rock, and indeed is heavily influenced by late 60's/early 70's period bands such as Pink Floyd, Gong, Hawkwind, Mike Oldfield, Daevid Allan, Steve Hillage, Tangerine Dream, and minimalist composers such as La Monte Young and Steve Reich. Recorded live at C-Bed Studios, London, all tracks were composed and arranged by Steven C. Gilbert on guitars and sound effects, who not only also sound engineered, but produced and mixed the album with Shak Cohen. All tracks were mastered by Simon Trought at Soup Studios, London, coincidentally the same studio Rosalie Cunningham is currently recording at, following on from Steve's review of Rosalie's gigs last year!

That Is Love 3/9/20

Philadelphia-duo Rise Twain released their eponymous debut album last September and today's Track Of The Day is an excerpt from a three song live performance recorded at Chateau Fornance (Brett William Kull's home studio). Both Rise Twain's Kull (producer, audio engineer, and member of Echolyn, Grey Eye Glances, and Francis Dunnery’s New Progressives) and J.D. Beck (The Scenic Route, Beck-Fields, author and playwright), along with Katie Barbato (a songwriter also from Philadelphia), wanted to creatively share their music in an intimate, comfortable setting during the ongoing Covid-19 Pandemic. The performance is live, no edits, pure and in the moment. It was shot on smart phones then edited in a creative manner to add context and emotional dynamics. Indeed, the union of their collective years of direct and varied experience in writing, is fully reflected in this video, performing and recording music together for their impressive debut.

Simulation Game Six 3/9/20

Voodoo Six are set to release their new studio album, 'Simulation Game', on Friday 16th October, and their first single from the album, 'Gone Forever', released last month, is today's Video Of The Day. It's the follow up to their critically acclaimed 2016 album 'Make Way For The King', and now boasting the talent of new vocalist and frontman Nik Taylor-Stoakes, the critical consensus is that they’ve raised themselves to another level with this release. The band are ready to make their music resonate across the pond as well as in the UK, Europe and beyond, specialising in delivering driving, contemporary Rock with an undercurrent of Blues and cut through with killer riffs. Tom Gentry (Gun, Marco Mendoza) also joins the band on guitar, which brings an added dynamic to the six-string assault.

Sane Mojo Preachers 2/9/20

Our good buddies, The Mojo Preachers, released their brand new track, 'Sane', here last Sunday, written by Carleton Van Selman on keys and vocalist Sophie Hammerton, and it's just one of the tracks destined for a brand new studio release. Also with Andy Walker - guitar, Matt Furness - drums and Trev Turley - bass, the five-piece are a boundary-pushing outfit, delivering hard-hitting original tunes; conjuring up a melodiously intricate, authentic yet unconventional sound. Think raw riffs, Psychedelic waves, rooted rhythms and thought-provoking lyrics, all with an occasional touch of sweeping, soaring, musical emotion that only Progressive Blues can bring!

The Turning Point 2/9/20

Hailing from Curitiba, Brazil, Landfall, who release their debut album, 'The Turning Point', this Friday 4th September, can be described as a mixture of Classic Melodic Rock like Journey and heavier influences such as classic era Dokken, White Lion and Extreme, as testified by today's Video Of The Day, 'Rush Hour'. However, the band is far more than the sum of its influences and also incorporate elements of Prog and Hard Rock to create a truly magical sound topped off by a singer in Gui Oliver (formerly of Auras) with a voice that perfectly and powerfully matches the music. His bandmates Felipe Souzza and guitarist Marcelo Gelbcke are childhood friends who have been playing together since their mid-teens, eventually being joined by bassist Thiago Forbeci. Having made records under other names and toured throughout their home territory, opening for acts such as Glenn Hughes and Mike Vescera in the process, they eventually joined forces with Oliver to create 'The Turning Point'.

Caine's Another Light 2/9/20

Caine's explosive third single, and today's Track Of The Day, 'Another Light', is the perfect alliance between Nu-Metal and Pop Punk, with a dirty London attitude. Currently being considered by the Recording Academy for a Grammy nomination in 5 categories, including Song of the Year and Best Metal Performance, Caine are proving that an unsigned, self-managed band can set their sights high whilst holding onto their unforgiving, raw sound and respecting their grass roots. The four-piece are pushing the UK Rock/Metal genre and and are tipped for for some big things in 2021 with one more single planned for this year. For fans of: Bring Me The Horizon, While She Sleeps, Tremonti, Shvpes and Wes Borland (Limp Bizkit), the band consists of James Brown – vocals, Dan ‘Rev’ M Hicks – guitars, Josh Bates – bass and Jonny Burraway - drums.

Force Convergence 1/9/20

Canadian legends Entropy first hit the Metal scene in the late 80's and 30 years later they are still melting faces, this time with their new full length, 'Force Convergence', released last Friday, of which their track, 'Ripzone', is today's Video Of The Day. This is the band's fourth album, with all the Entropy albums so far having a different feel to them, and this new one is no exception, forging its own path, described as their best yet. Indeed, it's a story-driven cinematic type experience, with the Progressive Thrash Metal concept album already getting excellent reviews. It's not only a 30-minute Metal rip-ride, but it's a creative and fun album that flows with power, melody, aggressiveness and meaning. With an original and eclectic sound that is 30 years in the making, Entropy is suitable for all Metalheads especially those who enjoy Slayer, Pantera and Iron Maiden.
