Vote Now - Best Livestream 2020

To be honest, a category which we had not envisaged being in our WRC 2020 Awards at the turn of the year was 'Best Livestream'. However, as they say, the rest is history and our nominees in unprecedented times are Devin Townsend's NHS fundraiser (Video Of The Day), both the Lockdown and Isolation (pictured) Music Festival's that did us so proud earlier this year, and finally, not forgetting, The Tuesday Music Club's excellent Zoom sessions. Nothing personal guys, but we look forward to the return of our Best Festival category next year, but in the meantime simply choose your favourite show here https://www.wrinklyrockersclub.com/wrc-award-nominees by hitting the vote button. An initial vinyl pressing of ‘The Muse’ sold out years ago and has been in high demand by The Wood Brothers' fanbase ever since. To celebrate the reissue, the band has filmed a performance of the album in its entirety, which will premiere on Friday 18th December on their YouTube channel.

Gabriel Xstasy 3/12/20

Gabriel Quazar, who now splits his time between Verona, Los Angeles and Zanzibar, has just released his new crossover single, ‘Xstasy’, on all digital platforms. The Italian is a thinker, a songwriter, a singer and a passionate guitarist at heart, with an eclectic and completely original take on Rock, Alternative and modern Pop music. His alternative and avant-gardish rocking soundscape also enjoys imports from ethnical musical traditions, as much as Jazz and even Hip-Hop. His own man, his own manager, he has also appreciated the collaborations of the many who believe in him, working in Europe and Los Angeles with the well renowned producer/musician Fabrizio Grossi (Steve Vai, Ice T, Glenn Hughes, Steve Lukather, et al).

Whole Lotta Rosalie Tonight 2/12/20

"For the encore we were treated to the vivacious and tumultuous maelstrom that is 'Tragic Catastrophe', an exuberant and melodramatic song from Purson's excellent 2013 debut album 'The Circle & The Blue Door'. A multifaceted panoramic Psychedelic musical cabaret trip to a mythical and magical world full of juxtaposing twists and turns! Indeed, a fantastic conclusion to a brilliant set of quality tunes and first-rate musicianship." That was part of our take when we last saw Rosalie Cunningham at London's Lexington in August last year, and believe it or not, as we exit Lockdown and London enters tier 2, Rosalie plays the first of two sold out socially distanced gigs at The New Cross Inn tonight, supported by The Higher Planes and Gianni Scalera.

Vote Now - Best Rock Performance 2020 2/12/20

The first category to be showcased in our 2020 WRC awards is Best Rock Performance. First up is Supersuckers who we saw at at London's 100 Club in February, kicking off a seven-date UK headline tour, and secondly, Myke Gray (pictured) at London's Underworld in late February - the first tour that Myke had ever done under his own name. Finally, the last two nominees, again at the back end of February, are Molly Karloff at their 'Supernaturalation' EP Launch Party at Camden's Black Heart, and Vex Red (Video Of The Day), at Islington's O2 Academy,  performing their first collection of new music since 2002! So there you have it - if you want to cast your vote for one of these outstanding Rock bands then simply go here https://www.wrinklyrockersclub.com/wrc-award-nominees

Daylight Aliens 2/12/20

Released last month from aliensdontringdoorbells' wildly successful debut album, 'Arrival', today's Track Of The Day, ‘Daylight’, is a Soft-Rock number, dedicated to the giddy feeling of love when you just can’t get enough of your significant other. The song is tender and emotional, with a heart of Rock ‘n’ Roll in the clever instrumentation and arrangement of this fantastic band. When it comes to music, the band cites One Republic, Maroon 5 and Weezer amongst their influences, with their sound an amalgamation of Pop, Rock, Jazz, Prog and Swing. Nowhere is this melting pot of influences more apparent, or more successful, than on ‘Daylight’. The lyrics are truly relatable, accompanying a musical landscape painted with a brush which, although wouldn’t sound out of place for the Rock charts of the 70's, paints a picture of sound that is moving and relevant now.

The album sees Danny performing with a whole host of musicians on an album of his ten favourite re-imagined songs, all reworked and recorded in isolation. From Heavy Metal to Country, Rock and Roll to Folk, it's a huge cross section of music delivered in an entirely different style, thanks to collaborations with the creme de la creme of the current Rock scene.

Shotgun Mistress Collide 30/11/20

The first Australian band to join Golden Robot’s new Metal label Crusader Records, Melbourne based Shotgun Mistress, has released the official music video for their latest Hard Rock onslaught, 'Collide', which is not only today's Track Of The Day, but is also another tantalising preview of their forthcoming debut album. Indeed, the new single highlights the band's now trademark style of combining stupefying guitar riff grenades, a combustible rhythm section and soaring vocals, wrapped in a melodic maelstrom. Shotgun Mistress was formed by internationally renowned Death-Metal demon guitarist Matt Wilcock (The Berzerker, Akercocke, Abramelin), best known for playing at light speeds, who hooked up with “Diamond” David Lee on drums to jam out LA Strip-era Rock. They were joined by Ben Curnow (Earth) on bass, along with vocalist Glenn Patrick (of Collegians, featuring members of Pseudo Echo and Invertigo).

Magic Dance Remnants 30/11/20

Magic Dance mastermind Jon Siejka returns this Friday 4th December with a fourth album, 'Remnants', of which the track, 'Restless Nights', is today's Video Of The Day. It offers a distinct contemporary take on his signature 80’s influenced sound, and it is hard not to be impressed by his mesmerising, powerfully Melodic songs that are performed with absolute conviction. Originally begun in 2012 as an outlet for Siejka’s synthwave songs, the band is heavily influenced by iconic 80’s Synth-Pop and movie soundtrack music, but has recently evolved into a heavier and more guitar-oriented style that leans more towards classic mid 80’s AOR sounds.

In a massive 16-page cover story,  the 100-page, full-colour bi-monthly UK Rock mag, features two exclusive in-depth interviews with Rabin and Yes vocalist Jon Anderson, as Rock Candy forensically unpicks Yes’s return to prominence in the ‘80s.

It’s a really infectious combination of Irish Folk influences with powerful riffs and vocals. Indeed, for the past twelve years, The Rumjacks have written songs that you cannot help but start singing by the second chorus, even if you have never heard them before! It's their fifth studio album, which marks a new era, as it introduces new lead singer Mike Rivkees, whose songwriting skills have rejuvenated the band’s collaborative spirit. The album was recorded under strict Covid-conditions in Milan, Italy, where the band stayed this year and created the album through August to October.

Kenny Wayne Shepherd Band CD Review 27/11/20

"There are a very small handful of exceptional guitarists in the Blues world that are consistently on their game and who make music that appeals to a crossover audience while remaining true to their roots. Kenny Wayne is right up there in this elite group and has further cemented his credentials with this stunningly good live album and DVD collection."

Give It Time 21/11/20

2019 WRC ‘One’s To Watch’ award winners Daxx & Roxane have released a time shifted new music video for their song 'Give It Time', which is today’s Track Of The Day. Given the song’s title, the kick-ass four-piece Rock ’n’ Roll band originating from Switzerland, thought that playing with the dynamics and time would be fun, and many parts were actually shot at twice the speed, and then slowed down to the actual tempo. Not only that, but they also invited the brilliant Evie Brown to join them and perform some pretty amazing dance moves, with Evie representing the girl in the lyrics of the song.

Samantha Martin & Delta Sugar CD Review 20/11/20

"Detecting  a panoply of influences ranging from Mavis Staples, Sharon Jones and Otis Redding To Booker T. and the MG's and the Memphis Horns, it's an astonishingly powerful, funky and deeply soulful album. Indeed, 'The Reckless One' represents another massive step forward for this shapeshifting vocalist, together as a songwriter, singer, arranger and band-leader."

Today read the fifth of our Lockdown #2 album reviews, as AJ takes time off working on our new website, to give you his take here: https://www.wrinklyrockersclub.com/cd-reviews-july on Samantha Martin & Delta Sugar's album, 'The Reckless One', that is out today and includes today's Video Of The Day, 'I've Got A Feeling'.

It's going to be a two arena affair, and a great opportunity to see the next NWOCR generation, including, amongst others, Massive Wagons, Wayward Sons, Bad Touch, Massive and Ryders Creed. So lets all look forward to HRH NWOCR, as they kickstart 2021 with a new positive framework that’s not only all about the music, but more importantly, is all about the fans.

Lucid Hallucinations 19/11/20

Alternative Rock band, Pylon Poets, combine elements of the current world situation, mental health and dream states, on their new EP, ‘Lucid Hallucinations’, which is due to be released via all online platforms on Friday 18th December. Consisting of Dan Hughes - vocals, guitars, synths, Sam McIver - drums and Nathan Hughes - bass, the Torquay band is inspired by the sounds of many Rock, Synth and high energy bands, and the end result is a blended, unique sound, staying true to their sonic vision. All four tracks were recorded this year producing three singles. ‘Breathe’ was the first single to be released in March, followed in July by ‘Abandon’ which gained radio play on Planet Rock Radio and Emerging Rock Bands Radio amongst other radio stations. The latest single ‘Rise and Call’ was released earlier this month, with a powerful, thought provoking video, portraying the year as it happened. Opening track ‘Reverie’ has been teased at live shows since its creation and is an unheard track to many, that will be complemented by a new music video, on the day of the EP release. With two previous UK tours and an array of festival appearances, the band continue to grow as they explore new genres, delve in to experimentation and aim to break new musical barriers.

Who's Out There? 19/11/20

Today's Video Of The Day is the new single, 'Who's Out There?', from the West Wickhams, who are not only a Psychedelique Garage Noir deux-piece, but also an imagined rival gang to Punk style icons the Bromley Contingent! A tribute to Sci-Fi B Movies, the duo also include Whitby Abbey, Pipe Organs, Flowers, Polka Dot Cats, Dark Punk, Gothic Novels, Rock 'n' Roll Autobiographies, Castles, Abstract Painting, Euphoria, Mist, Autumn, Halloween, Optical Illusions, Edgar Allan Poe and Andy Warhol, among others, as their influences! Jon Othello and Elle Flores are originally from the Isles of Scilly's Tresco, the famous island of lost souls that's home to subtropical plants and shipwrecked figureheads, but they both recently relocated to Richmond, Surrey!

Collateral, who are due to play next year's Ramblin' Man Fair on Friday 16th July, are back with a vengeance with their most powerfully uplifting and empowering single to date, 'Can’t Hold Me Down', which is due to be released by Roulette Media next Friday 27th November. The single was recorded and produced by the band and mixed by Grammy Nominated producer and engineer Romesh Dodangoda (Bring Me The Horizon, Funeral For A Friend, Motorhead). 'Can’t Hold Me Down' is also the first piece of new material to feature Collateral’s expanded six-piece line-up which includes new members Robert Fenning (keyboards) and Louis Malagodi (guitar) alongside original members Angelo Tristan (lead vocals, guitar), Todd Winger (guitar), Jack Bentley-Smith (bass) and Ben Atkinson (drums).

King Of The Dead Control 18/11/20

Very aptly, three-piece Horror Rock band King of the Dead released their debut single, 'Control', last Friday 13th, and today's lyric video Track Of The Day, with illustrations by artist Sam Mayle, provides a glimpse into the world that the band inhabit! Their music is anthemic and dark (think 30 Seconds To Mars meets Ghost) with driving guitars and soaring vocals. Consisting of Shah - vocals, guitar, Oddi - bass and Aldoir - drums, it's the start of a 5-song story about sacrifice, possession and the occult. Indeed, they are a band that are not afraid to be bold and are a celebration of the macabre and the weird!

The Show That Never Ends 18/11/20

In celebration of Keith Emerson's 76th birthday earlier this month, The Keith Emerson Estate and Cherry Red Records have announced the long-awaited release next year of The Official Keith Emerson Tribute Concert (see today's Video Of The Day) on Wednesday 11th March - the fifth anniversary of Keith's passing. This official 3-disc set brings you the 150-minute 2016 Los Angeles concert film featuring a once-in-a-lifetime lineup of musical luminaries, including amongst others, Brian Auger, Eddie Jobson, Jordan Rudess, Steve Lukather and Aaron Emerson, performing music from Emerson, Lake & Palmer, The Nice, Emerson, Lake & Powell, The Keith Emerson Band and the Three Fates Project. As well as artist interviews, behind-the-scenes footage, tribute speeches and a gallery of personal never-before-seen photos from the Emerson estate, all proceeds will go to The Dystonia Medical Research Foundation charity, which was close to Keith’s heart.

Master Of Masters 17/11/20

Iron Mask, the Neoclassical Power Metal masters and one of the world's leading Neoclassical and most original acts, return after a four-year break to continue their successful collaboration with AFM Records, when they release their latest album, 'Master Of Masters', on Friday 4th December. Founded almost 20 years ago as a side project to guitarist, composer, producer and songwriter Dushan Petrossi's main band, Magic Kingdom, Iron Mask, named after the mysterious prisoner from Alexandre Dumas' novel "The Man in the Iron Mask", have matured into a sovereign band and a big-shot in the international Metal scene. Playing breathtakingly energetic Hard Rock, and also featuring Mike Slembrouck - vocals, Vassili Moltchanov - bass and Ramy Ali – drums, all twelve songs have that perfect combination of pure Metal, but easy-listening feel with Progressive touches, beautiful orchestrations, virtuos playing and catchy melodies.

Straight Up Genius 17/11/20

Today's Video Of The Day is 'Straight Up Genius’, the forthcoming new single from young UK singer/songwriter Jack Blackman, available on all digital platforms from Friday 27th November. It's a 160 second trip featuring jangling 12 string, slide guitar, swirling Wurlitzer and rich vocal harmonies, plus the track’s addictive 60's vibe showcases a side to Jack’s musicality that is often overlooked. 'Straight Up Genius’ was written by Blackman, and in addition to his vocals, guitars, banjo and percussion, it also features Adam Barry on keyboards, James Maguire on bass/backing vocals and David Vaughan on drums. The accompanying video was created by The Artful Doodler, who perfectly brings Blackman’s Straight Up Genius character to life. Fast developing into one the most accomplished and exciting young performers on the Roots scene today, Jack has performed all across the UK and as far as the Mississippi Delta.

Touring constantly and gaining a remarkable reputation with their high energy performances, the band played a round of sold out shows in London, Bristol, Harrogate, Helsinki and Tallinn at the beginning of this year.

Currently joyriding through stereos across the globe is the unstoppable sound of Mascot Records' 'Christmas Rocks' EP, and, as an apéritif, we give you today's Video Of The Day, ‘Christmas Lullaby’ by P.O.D. Hot Laundry Shake 16/11/20

Hailing from San Francisco, Hot Laundry's new single, and today's Track Of The Day, 'Shake', is a full throttle Rock 'n' Roll revolution via Die Laughing Records. Soulful lead singer Janette Lopez, rooted from Detroit, Michigan, brings her classic Motown style and her love for 1960's bad girl garage groups to the performance, that's also heavily influenced by MC5, The Stooges, 1970's east coast Punk Rock and Delta Blues. Also consisting of backup vocalists Ileath Bridges and Gena Serey, Grady Hord - guitar and keyboards, Casey Gallagher - bass and Mark Mortensen - drums, with lyrics reflecting hard work, hard times, love and dancing all night, Hot Laundry is Rock 'n' Roll for your soul.

Viva La Victoria 15/11/20

Earlier this month Swedish Hard Rock act Eclipse released their first ever official live album, 'Viva La Victouria' (Track Of The Day), which was recorded in Gothenburg just before Christmas last year in support of their successful current studio album, ‘Paradigm’. Additional bonus materials include the studio track ‘Driving One Of Your Cars’ (a Lisa Miskovsky cover), an acoustic versions of 'The Downfall Of Eden' and ‘When The Winter Ends', as well as live tracks from the band's ‘Live from the Quarantine’ pay-per-view special recorded in Stockholm this April. This live album completes the promotion of the ‘Paradigm’ album and serves as a fitting document of an extremely successful yet simultaneously strange phase in the career of Eclipse given the restrictions posed by the ongoing pandemic.

The Hammer Finally Falls 15/11/20

Today's Video Of The Day is Friday's release of ‘World On Fire’, Jack J Hutchinson's first single from his next studio album, 'The Hammer Falls'. It's a four-minute slab of Hard Rock that mixes a brutal Sabbath-esque opening riff with a sing along chorus perfectly built for packed venues. The middle 8 takes the track in an unexpected direction, with hints of Floyd, before the band come crashing back in for the finale. The track was recorded in Brazil at the renowned Estúdio Versão Acústica and produced by Lucas Sagaz, who also mixed Hutchinson’s recent  live album ‘Who Feeds The Lockdown?’. It was co-written with his band mates Lazarus Michaelides (bass) and Felipe Amorim (drums). The band are currently working on the new album at Momentum Studios in Devon, where Kris Barras Band recorded their last two albums.

Noush Skaugen CD Review 14/11/20

"‘Hey Sicko’ is the new album from Noush Skaugen, with her smoky vocals and occasional low rasps, she has delivered an album soaked in Americana. You could close your eyes and quite easily be sat in a small town diner somewhere in the mid-west with ‘Hey Sicko’ playing on the Jukebox.  Perhaps unsurprisingly, the album was recorded in Los Angeles with musicians hailing from Nashville, Tennessee - Stanton Edward on guitar and bass with Jon Radford on drums. Noush herself was born in Sweden to a Swedish mother and Iranian father, although she was brought up in London, going on to read Law at Warwick University.”

Today read the fourth of our Lockdown #2 album reviews, as this time Chris Bourlet gives you his take here on Noush Skaugen's latest CD, 'Hey Sicko', that is due out next Friday 20th November and includes today's Video Of The Day, 'Starts When It's Over'.

Fronted by the sassy Vicky Starr, the band bleeds the Blues and recently released their 'Destination Unknown' EP. The newly-formed LeRoi XIII (Thirteen), and comprised of singer Terry LeRoi (Granny 4 Barrel), guitarists Troy McLawhorn (Evanescence) and Sammy Boller, bassist Aaron Pauley (Of Mice and Men), and drummer Will Hunt (Evanescence), have recreated the legendary Dio song, 'Stand Up and Shout', with 100% of the proceeds/profits going to the Stand Up and Shout Cancer Fund.

Korny Vampires 14/11/20

Today's Track Of The Day is the new video, 'Vampires', taken off of I Am Korny's latest album, 'Sleep Ain’t Paying My Dues'. The phantoms and the dreamers, the heroes, and the villains, the brave and the desperate all find their home in a song that intoxicates with a sluggish Waltz and Southern Gothic pastiche. This is the music of an outlaw perceiving his otherness not as a burden but a crown. Thus, every maverick since the dawn of Rock ’n’ Roll is walking by his side. Just like Nick Cave, like the Black Keys or Alberta Cross, I Am Korny is distilling the American dream and the American nightmare, the promises of the west, and the myth of that endless land into murder ballads about the underbelly of love.

Eyes Of Tomorrow Settle For More 13/11/20

On Friday 4th December, the Eyes Of Tomorrow story continues when the Hardcore outfit release their new full-length album, 'Settle For More', thru Dedication Records (vinyl) and Swell Creek Records (CD & Digipack). Indeed, the Ruhrpott squad, consisting of Chris (bass), Adam (drums), Dom (guitar) and Mirko (vocals), are named after the same-titled song of Oldschool Hardcore veterans Cro-Mags. In 2016, the band released their DIY demo tape, which was out of print in a hurry, and in 2018 Ryker vocalist Dennis, not only took the guys under his Ready To Fight label wing to rerelease the four-track-EP, 'Gone For Good', but also contributed a few guest vocals as well!

Celtic Outlaws Burned Alive 13/11/20

Today's gritty Video Of The Day is the new single, 'Burned Alive', from Canada’s Death Country Outfit Johnny Nocash and The Celtic Outlaws, a Heavy Hard Rock song with some dusty western elements scattered throughout the leads. Consisting of Memphis Raines - lead guitar, Johnny Nocash – vocals/ guitar, Cory Hofing - drums and LC Jay – bass, they are a one of a kind band that fuses Country and Rock, sodden with whisky and beer to create an organic, original sound that will appeal to a broad range of listeners. The video is a straightforward look at who the band is, that embodies their primal Death Country sound while knocking back a few drinks to loosen up the ol’ neck collar. Indeed, until 2016, Johnny had originally started out as an emotionally driven acoustic Punk solo artist, but then decided it was time to expand the band and open up to adding musicians to his arsenal!

Blues Club Waters 13/11/20

Today's latest Blues Club Podcast Track Of The Day is another two hours of non stop Best in Blues and beyond with More Music and Less Chat, including new releases, classic tracks and UK IBBA Presenters' Picks, featuring music from Catfish, King King (pictured), Storm Warning, Muddy Waters, Mike Ross, Jon Cleary, Malaya Blue, Shaun Murphy, Tanya Piche Blues Band, Alastair Greene, Jack J Hutchinson, Laura Rain & The Caesars, Jimmy Johnson, Shemekia Copeland, Dr Feelgood, David Rotundo Band, Carole King, Miss Bix & Keeshea Pratt, Howlin Wolf, Billy J, Donald Fagen, Peter Parcek, Johnny Iguana and many more.

Joe Bonamassa CD Review 12/11/20

"Unless you’re a fan, it must be bemusing to observe Joe Bonamassa’s career with a disinterested eye, the constant releasing of new albums must make them blur into a kaleidoscope, hard to distinguish between. His industry is admirable.  The (v corny) punning ‘Royal Tea’ is the third release this year behind the revamped ‘A New Day Yesterday’ and the fabulous instrumental project under the banner of the Sleep Eazys. The big question for the casual listener is “does this constant output result in a dilution of quality?” The answer is no!”

Today read the third of our Lockdown #2 album reviews, as this time Simon Green gives you his take here on Joe Bonamassa's latest CD, 'Royal Tea', that was released towards the end of last month and includes today's Video Of The Day, 'Lookout Man!'.

Skycrest Savior 12/11/20

With Power Metal at it's best, guitar solos right on the spot, perfect hooks, catchy choirs and the extraordinary raspy voice of guitarist Piet Sielck, Iron Savior deliver yet another classic to their discography, with 'Skycrest', due to be released on Friday 4th December. Following in the classic, infectious, Heavy Metal footseps of ten studio albums plus one live CD/DVD, which includes their highly acclaimed self-titled debut, 'Condition Red' and 'The Landing', 'Skycrest' has got what it takes to become another Heavy and Melodic sound milestone in the Hamburg-based band's history.

Crazy Rock Vault 107 12/11/20

Taking you back in time, they'll bring you tracks that you may know and some you may not, plus they always feature a special year.

Jim Kirkpatrick CD Review 11/11/20

"Still, it is a ridiculously long time between albums. The good news is that it’s a scorcher. This is Classic, Melodic Rock music built on quality song writing (sounds simple but isn’t) and features really nice guitar work, which is I suppose what you might expect, but nevertheless it’s worth noting that the playing is excellent throughout. It’s equally worth commenting that JK is no slouch on the vocal front either.”

Today read the second of our Lockdown #2 album reviews, as Simon Green gives you his take here on Jim Kirkpatrick's new CD, 'Ballad Of a Prodigal Son', that was released in early September and includes today's Video Of The Day, 'Gravy Train'.

Both the new single and album continues the story of Grady: a test-tube-conceived psychopath on the run from the state.

Wasted Days 10/11/20

Today's Video Of The Day is Larry Pink The Human's brand new single, ‘Wasted Days (Inbetweens)', which features guest vocals from Idles’ frontman Joe Talbot. It's a pensive synth infused track about embracing the joys and simple things in life, that comes armed with a huge emotive chorus. Consisting of Slaves guitarist Laurie Vincent, who takes the role of lyricist and frontman, plus songwriter and performer Jolyon Thomas, whose work as a producer includes such artists as Kendrick Lamar, U2 and Royal Blood, it's the latest in a string of hugely successful singles since their emergence this year.

HRH Vikings III Rescheduled 9/11/20

Hard Rock Hell have, reluctantly, rescheduled the extremely popular HRH Vikings III festival to December 2021, due to the continued Covid-19 restrictions, although the line-up remains almost intact with the incredible Korpiklaani and Audn replacing Borknagar and Saor respectively. In addition, one of the true highlights of the HRH calendar, welcomes back the amazing Atorc by popular demand plus Battle Born, Eoten and Accursed Years. They all join Ensiferum, Burning Witches, Thyrfing, Warkings, Metsatoll, Skyforger, Grimner, Konvent, Vanaheim, Gwydion, Kull, Wretched Soul, Valafar and Metal Castle at the O2 Academy in Sheffield over the weekend of 4th and 5th December.

If There's Any Reason 9/11/20

Modern Rock 3-piece Firekind self-released their ‘What I Have Found Is Already Lost’ Deluxe Edition on Friday 30th October, of which their latest, brooding, yet yearning single, ‘If There’s Any Reason', is today's Track Of The Day - a self made video shot in a rundown Los Angeles warehouse whilst recording the album. Fusing epic, soaring vocal and guitar melodies with driving, powerful drums and bass, the Devon based band consists of brothers Jas Morris (vocals and previous Guitarist Magazine Guitarist of the Year winner), Dan Morris (bass, keys) and Robin Shute (drums), although original drummer and close friend of the band, Dan Collings played on the album. With Hard Rock and Prog roots spiced with an arena sound blent in, it’s hard to pigeon hole them which bodes to a myriad of Rock tastes. This is a theme throughout, augmented by the acoustic bonus tracks which were recorded and produced by Jas and Dan in their home studio during the Covid-19 lockdown.

The Art Of Losing 9/11/20

Welsh multi-instrumentalist The Anchoress (aka Catherine Anne Davies) will release her second album, ‘The Art of Losing’, via Kscope next year on Friday 5th March, and the album's first single, ‘Show Your Face’, is today's Video Of The Day. A Depeche Mode flavoured retort to toxic masculinity that features guitar from Manic Street Preachers’ James Dean Bradfield (who also sings a duet on the album) and drums from Sterling Campbell (David Bowie, Duran Duran), the new single weaves its dark synth magic following up on her sonically audacious debut, ‘Confessions of A Romance Novelist’. Indeed, her debut was named amongst the Guardian critics’ Albums of the Year, nominated for the Welsh Music Prize, named HMV’s Welsh Album of the Year and won Best Newcomer at the PROG awards! Next year, The Anchoress will also be performing her new material at London's Queen Elizabeth Hall on Saturday 10th July.

Introducing .... Jackson Hewitt 8/11/20

Today's Remembrance Sunday Video Of The Day, is the apt, 'The Ghost of Cameron Crowe', the new single by Jackson Hewitt, memorably recalling the thump thump thump of a piston engine flying low across the plains. Originally consisting of singer/guitarist Ian Hewitt, bass guitarist Jay Brown, guitarist Mark Fleetwood and drums William Basford/Cohen Hale, it's the UK Rock band's first piece of music since the success of their extraordinary self-released album, 'Darwinism'.

We Are The Noise 8/11/20

Comprising of Willie Dowling and Jon Poole, The Dowling Poole's latest song, 'We Are The Noise', is now available here exclusively on BandCamp and it’s absolutely free, no strings attached. The track was recorded in multiple locations during lockdown and features long-time collaborator and Sugar Plum Fairies/Jackdaw 4/The Dowling Poole band member, Andy Lewis playing bass. Guest drummer on ‘We Are The Noise’ is the extraordinary Darby Todd, who has played with countless artists including Larry Miller, Gary Moore and The Darkness - and some of you may remember Darby from his days playing with Willie and Andy in Sugar Plum Fairies. The band was formed in 2014, and have released two albums, 'Bleak Strategies' and 'One Hyde Park' to great critical acclaim.

The Day The Music Died 8/11/20

With the unbelievable goings on during the current American Presidential election, it's also apt to listen carefully and enjoy today's Track Of The Day - an amazing synchronised photo compilation of the meaning of Don McLean's classic, 'American Pie'. Released in 1971, and dedicated to the name of the plane in which Buddy Holly, Richie Valens and The Big Bopper were killed when it  crashed in 1958, the video is historically poignant for us all, young and old.

Ken Hensley 7/11/20

Former Uriah Heep vocalist, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist, Ken Hensley, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, following a very short illness. Hensley was one of the most important musicians of the past half-a-century - his work with Uriah Heep in the 1970's helped to make the band hugely influential. He also collaborated with bands such as Blackfoot, W.A.S.P. and Cinderella, as well as building a very successful solo career. As a writer he was responsible for such classics as 'Lady In Black', 'Easy Livin', 'July Morning' and 'Look At Yourself'. A very spiritual person, Hensley became an inspiration to many and was known for encouraging talented artists. Ken had recently finished work on a new project, 'My Book of Answers', which is due for release at the end of February next year. Our deepest sympathies go to Ken's family, friends and his many musical associates at this time.

Spiders Fly In The Soup 7/11/20

Last Thursday, Sheffield rockers Black Spiders released their new single, and today's Video Of The Day, ‘Fly in the Soup’, but be warned, it features an abundance of flies, but no soup! Yes, those trusted and true sons of the North are back, with their first new music in over six years, who have reformed in lockdown and written and recorded a whole new album to be released early next year! In the vein of their biggest hit 'Kiss Tried to Kill me' - the new song ‘Fly in the Soup' is not only a stadium filler waiting to happen, but the band now also include new drummer, Wyatt Wendels of Planet Rock presenter fame, who the band started working with just as the Coronavirus hit.

Alter Bridge Walk The Sky 7/11/20

Yesterday, Alter Bridge released their 'Walk The Sky 2.0' stream only EP, featuring a new song written during the Covid-19 lockdown, and today's Track Of The Day, 'Last Rites', plus six live tracks! Since the band announced the cancellation of their entire 2020 touring schedule, Myles Kennedy, Mark Tremonti, Brian Marshall and Scott Phillips begin sharing ideas for a new studio song. Not only that, but the band hunkered down to review recordings from their shows that took place earlier this year, selecting a few live versions of their favourite tracks from their latest album, 'Walk The Sky'.

When Rivers Meet CD Review 6/11/20

"Shaken, not stirred. Well, the husband-and-wife team of Grace and Arron Bond have just done that by breaking into the Planet Rock radio playlist. It’s no easy feat for an independent act to break into a station that goes for a certain type of sound that is dominated by the 70’s/80’s heavyweights such as the likes of Deep Purple or Bon Jovi. Their recently released toe tapper of a single, ‘Battleground’, is the song pulling the punches.”

Today read the first of our Lockdown #2 album reviews, as Geoff C. gives you his take here on When Rivers Meet's debut 'We Fly Free', that's due to be released on Friday 20th November via One Road Records, of which 'Battleground' is today's Video Of The Day.

Billy Wasting Time 6/11/20

An independent Pop troubadour, well on his way to the peak of his power, singer/songwriter Billy Lockett returns, bold and reflective with his beautiful new single ‘Wasting Time’, which is out next Friday 13th November. Lyrically, the track explores those feelings and helpless moments, just after a painful relationship split. Written and recorded straight after such an event, Billy captured that heart-wrenching feeling on tape, showcasing his deeply candid approach to music making, as classical piano flourishes and lush string arrangements bolster the myriad of emotions which he has captured through his vocal performance. ‘Wasting Time’ follows the hugely successful album of modern classic piano compositions entitled ‘Together At Home’. Released in June this year, the one-off project was inspired by the enforced period of isolation during lockdown, boasting stunning reworkings of some of Billy’s most popular tracks alongside brand-new compositions. The new single also marks the start of a new chapter for the Northampton native, in advance of the release of his forthcoming EP, slated for next year.

Back To One 5/11/20

Today's Video Of The Day is yesterday's high-impact 'Back To One' release from Dublin Rock-trio Dirty Power, a real punchy/gritty number, all done with a straight-ahead, DIY approach. The riff-driven sophomore single's raw approach, is described by the band as an absolute favourite set-closer at live shows. It follows on from the band's Spring release, 'Oh God', and is the final piece of their 'Notions' 5-part EP puzzle. Driven by a creative, original Punk ethic, in everything from the writing, recording and release process, to approaching performing and touring, think one giant influenced melting pot of Nirvana, Foo Fighters, Audioslave and Rage Against The Machine.

Indeed, back in March, Great Music Stories launched a new (not for profit) internet radio platform from a rickety Rock caravan, a spontaneous reaction to the pandemic and venues closing in March.

Heaven Knows Levara 4/11/20

In order to celebrate their recent signing to Mascot Records, Levara have revealed the first song, and today's Track Of The Day, ‘Heaven Knows’, from the band’s forthcoming debut studio album, due out next year. Collectively, their musical union, merged in Los Angeles, brings life to the individual talents of three musicians. Singer Jules Galli emigrated from France, while drummer Josh Devine chose L.A. as home, versus his native United Kingdom, following success behind the kit with One Direction, and it was indeed in L.A. where they both found common vision with Trev Lukather (guitar), son of Toto’s Steve Lukather, no less! The band also plans to tour late-Spring next year, with a confirmed itinerary being announced in the coming weeks.

Impulsive Orianthi 4/11/20

Platinum-selling artist via her 2009 hit single ‘According To You’ and World-class Australian guitarist, Orianthi, releases her latest album, simply entitled, 'O', this Friday 6th November, of which her track, 'Impulsive', is today's Video Of The Day. Rock fans are already familiar with her via live work with Rock royalty such as Alice Cooper, Carlos Santana and Steve Vai, while she has also performed with Carrie Underwood and was hand-picked by Michael Jackson to play guitar for his ill-fated run of dates in London. Her many accolades include being named one of the Greatest Female Electric Guitarists by Elle magazine, Breakthrough Guitarist of the Year by Guitar International, as well as one of Gibson Guitars’ Top 10 Female Guitar Players of All Time. She will also be revealing a signature acoustic guitar in early 2021 that has been made in partnership with Gibson.

Roots Rock Riot 3/11/20

Thirteen years after its release, Skindred have announced next year's re-release of 'Roots Rock Riot', on Friday 26th February. Written in the basement of a Newport boxing club, recorded in America and laying the groundwork for everything that followed it, 'Roots Rock Riot' is an important piece of Skindred’s history – a piece that this re-release celebrates. Indeed, it started life as that difficult second album, but featured what would become the permanent line-up of vocalist Benji Webbe, bassist Daniel Pugsley, guitarist Mikey Demus and drummer Arya Goggin. The re-release follows the recent announcement of next year's UK Showtime Tour, planned for September/October, where they will be joined by very special guests Royal Republic, that stops off at London's Roundhouse on Saturday 2nd October.

Black Fate AMaze 3/11/20

Today's Video Of The Day is Greek Power Prog band Black Fate's track, 'Maze', taken from their recently released album, 'Ithaca', via Rockshots Records and Rubicon Records in Japan. With their heartbreaking world-class vocals, catchy hooks and lyrics, along with crashing guitar riffs, haunting melodies, and furious technical and melodic solos, it's their fifth studio album, and was mixed and mastered by Steve Lado. For fans of Dream Theater, Fates Warning, Kamelot, Nightwish and Dio, 'Ithaca' follows 'Between Visions and Lies' (2014), 'Deliverance of Soul' (2009), 'A Piece of Dream' (2002) and 'Uncover' (2001).

In The Garden 2/11/20

Apollo Stands have revealed today's brand new music Video Of The Day for their track, ‘In The Garden’, taken from their latest EP, ‘Minds’, via One Eyed Toad Records. The short film-style video is the brainchild of vocalist Ry Haze, and shows off the acting talents of Rebecca Taljaard - plus the collaboration between Apollo Stands and Bradley Davies and Harry Wheelwright of Sine Wave Films, which allowed for the creation of something truly cinematic in scope. The track was recorded with producer Tom Joy, and special thanks goes to the Taljaard family for allowing the use of their beautiful home, and most importantly; their garden!

Parris Aggro 2/11/20

Cro-Mags founder and songwriter Parris Mayhew has returned with a new instrumental Hardcore/Metal band, Aggros, plus a brand-new single and today's Track Of The Day, 'Chaos Magic'. The band will release music in a true DIY Hardcore style – no label, self-releasing one song at a time, accompanied by a video for each. Directed by Mayhew himself, the guitarist used the Covid-19 Lockdown and empty streets of Manhattan to his advantage, making nightly excursions to film anywhere from two to six hours a night. Indeed, the music will sound and feel familiar to anyone who knows Mayhew’s previous three albums, as Aggros is simply a continuation of his musical exploration. Fans who are accustomed to a big Rock sound production from Mayhew’s guitar will find that 'Chaos Magic' is more streamlined and raw.

Gales Tour Postponed To 2022 2/11/20

Following the release of his album, ‘The Bookends’, via Provogue/Mascot Label Group last year, Eric Gales has rescheduled next year's UK tour to February 2022. The album features collaborations with B. Slade, Doyle Bramhall II and Beth Hart, and was written over a nine month period, recorded at Studio Delux, Van Nuys, California, The Dog House, Woodland Hills, California and Blakeslee Recording, North Hollywood. Special guest on all shows is the critically acclaimed British Blues Rock guitarist Danny Bryant. Hailed as “A National Blues Treasure", Bryant released his 11th studio album ‘Means of Escape’ via Jazzhaus Records to great fanfare last year.

Kyle Daniel EPs Review 1/11/20

"There should be some online audio of these songs available via the usual platforms, so treat yourself to a listen (especially if you’re convinced that you don’t like Country Rock; hell, even some of Skynyrd’s songs would have happily worn that moniker!) and if you get the chance to buy the discs, do it; they are unreservedly recommended.”

Today read another one of our great music reviews, as Gary Smith gives you his take here on not just one, but two Kyle Daniel EPs, namely 'What's There To Say? and 'Kyle Daniel', of which the track, 'Hangover Town', is today's Track Of The Day.

Tired Of Listening Bone 1/11/20

Russell Keefe's solo project, TBelly, recently released today's Video Of The Day, ‘Tired Of Listening Bone’, on all major streaming sites, and it's the second single taken from their forthcoming second album ‘I Never Want To See Me Again’, which is out early next year. This perfectly executed, high octane romp of a track will have audiences dancing from the start, and showcases Russell’s world class keyboard and vocal skills. Also making a guest appearance on harmonica is the internationally renowned Will Wilde. For some, Keefe may be better known as the keyboard player and joint lead vocalist of Slade, but make no doubt about it, Russell is a phenomenal artist in his own right and deserves full recognition of his talent, making TBelly "one to watch".
