High Octane Monster Truck! 30/11/15

Canadian hard-rockin’ juggernaut Monster Truck, will release their new album 'Sittin’ Heavy' on 19th February 2016 via their new home of Mascot Records/Mascot Label Group for Europe and Dine Alone Records for the rest of the World. 'Sittin’ Heavy' is 11 tracks of high-octane, foot to the floor, raucous rock that picks up from where 2013's incredible Juno Award nominated 'Furiosity' left off. For the past two years since the debut dropped they have been hell-bent on putting Hamilton, Ontario, on the rock ‘n’ roll map as they have, in true road warrior style, relentlessly been tearing through Europe, the US and Canada opening for the mighty Guns N' Roses, Slash, Alice in Chains, ZZ Top, Buckcherry, Rival Sons and Vista Chino as well as stepping up for blistering sets at the UK's Hammerfest and Download Festival. Anyway check out their Vid Of The Day!

Walter Trout's return to the music scene with his great new album 'Battle Scars' - follows a long period in hospital with liver disease - with his fans uncertain as to whether he would survive, let alone ever get the chance to see him play again. But, as you will hear on today's Track Of The Day interview with Rory Auskerry - Walter is back and he's rockin'. Don't forget also to tune into Rory's Route 66 show here tonight at 6pm.

Happy And Inglorious! 29/11/15

Inglorious are being hailed as one of the UK’s heaviest new Hard Rock bands to emerge from the British underground scene.  Originally formed in February 2014, the band is fronted by Nathan James, who made a name for himself having sung for the multi-platinum selling Trans-Siberian Orchestra and Scorpions guitar legend Uli Jon Roth.  Inspired by musical giants such as Deep Purple, Led Zeppelin, Whitesnake, Bad Company, and Aerosmith - our Vid Of The Day is the official music video for their forthcoming single 'Until I Die'.  The single is taken from the eponymous debut album released by Frontiers Music SRL on Friday 19th February 2016 and they will be supporting The Winery Dogs on their European tour from 29th January until 17th February, followed by their official album launch at London’s Islington Assembly Hall on Sunday 21st February.

Just 4 Days Till WRC Xmas Bash! 29/11/15

Wrinklystock IV Raises The Bar Yet Again! 28/11/15

"Danielz rapport with the crowd continues and he has them eating out of his hand - especially when one fan asks for a number that is so obscure he suggests that probably about five people in the whole audience would know it but just to oblige he plays a few chords of the track - I can’t remember what it was - it was so unknown. The hits continue with ‘Telegram Sam’ and ‘Ride a White Swan’ and the action leads nicely up to the heavyweight finish – ‘New York City’ is followed by the classic ‘Children of the Revolution’, ‘Jeepster’ and the set finale ‘Get it On’. A standing ovation follows with deafening cries for more. That was never in doubt and ‘I Love To Boogie’ and ‘Hot Love’ have voices straining and no doubt many homes would be fairly quiet the next day!!"

"Well We May Be Old & Wrinkly!" 28/11/15

The clue regarding the special guests on tonight's Rock On The Ridge show here at 8pm was "You will have to turn it up!" Black Sabbath was suggested but it's even better than that as Shooter are in the studio to discuss a busy year with a bunch of cracking festivals, the release of their critically acclaimed single 'Turn It Up' at the beginning of the year and the release of their debut album 'Recycled Teenagers' in September with an outstanding launch gig at the Half Moon in Putney. Not only that but they recently announced their new Xmas single 'Xmas Time’s a Time to Rock' (our Vid Of The Day) with the immortal line "Well We May Be Old & Wrinkly" (we're not worthy) is available on pre-order from i-Tunes and Amazon for release on Thursday 17th December.

When Bands & Small Venues Rocked! 26/11/15

"Yet another from 'LLSTW' - the storming 'I'd Rather Die In Vain' - gave us a full house on the genre bingo card - Jimi's Blue Plaque just up the road in W1 was no doubt reverberating to this nod to his legend. It was then back to the Blues and to their 'Love Vol. 1' EP and 'What's On Your Mind' - a track that not only JD has performed before using Duanne Allman's Les Paul but also many would think is a Blues standard and a cover. Praise indeed. The 'Big Country' style opening riff of 'Long May You Sail' lead  into another SIMO epic from 'LLSTW' and a bonus ball with Progressive rock overtones - the togetherness of this three-piece never being more apparent now than during their entire set. The prog flag continued to fly with 'Off at 11' again from 'Love Vol. 1' plus I suppose the obligatory but great drum solo from Abrashoff. There's no doubt that JD's voice has a certain 'Cocker' about it - so the opening guitar salvo to 'With a Little Help From My Friends' made the proverbial hairs on the back of the neck stand up. This necessitated banter later as to what was the better cover - Janis or Joe? One thing for sure was that SIMO nailed it! And there was room from one encore - 'Evil' from their first self-titled album - doffing their caps to Zep with its 'How Many More Times' type riff which - par for the course - proceeded into a jam - but rounded off a wonderful evening that transported us back in time - when bands and small venues rocked. Given the forthcoming release of "LLSTW' - you have to question whether we will ever be able to witness this intimacy again."

Just two days after they supported Walter Trout at The Forum, London - Nashville rock trio SIMO - led by JD Simo - played an exclusive showcase gig  at the St. Moritz Club in Soho, London, last night. Situated not far from the old Marquee Club and personally recommended by Joe Bonamassa as “Old school to the max and playing vintage guitars - JD is one of the best out there right now…one of the guys on the scene I’d love to jam with” - the prospect was understandably mouthwatering in advance of their new album release on Friday 29th January 2016. Who Do You Want At Wrinklystock 5? 23/11/15

Time never stands still at The WRC - given we posed the question at Wrinklystock IV in both the official programme and on the brilliant theatre backdrops (pictured) - which tribute would you like to see at Wrinklystock 5? Suggestions on the night included Aerosmith, Status Quo, AC/DC and The Kinks. Although one thing was for certain - everyone wanted to see The Replicants return next year. Anyway let us know your thoughts through the comments box below!

"Old School To The Max" 23/11/15

Watch out for a review, pics and vids over the coming days but in the meantime we look forward to seeing you all tonight!

Alone In The Studio! 21/11/15

"‘Alone in The Universe’ fares best when Lynne is more generous, when he can contrast the downcast sentiments of the lyrics with the effervescence of the music. After a rocky side 1, side 2 picks up considerably, thanks to light-speed ‘Ain’t It a Drag’ and the zero-gravity ‘I’m Leaving You’ which pays clear homage to Roy Orbison, one of Lynne’s contemporary’s in supergroup The Travelling Wilburys. Likewise, there are strong hints of John Lennon (who once described ELO as the "son of Beatles") present on 'All My Life', which is no surprise given Lynne's self-confessed Beatles fixation, which remains in full bloom here."

Read the rest of Wrinkly The Silver's excellent Jeff Lynne's ELO CD review here plus see our Track Of The Day.

West's Soundcheck! 20/11/15

Just days after we saw his old mucker Corky Laing performing at the 100 Club, Leslie West of Mountain releases his new album today ‘Soundcheck’ via the Provogue/Mascot Label Group. For this new release, Leslie lays down some of his most inspired musical magic to date with the assistance of true Rock royalty: the renown British guitarists Peter Frampton and Brian May, ex-Jeff Beck keyboard virtuoso Max Middleton, vocalist extraordinaire Bonnie Bramlett and the late great Cream bassist and longtime friend of Leslie’s, Jack Bruce!

Since I've Been Loving You 20/11/15

And talking of 'Corky Laing Plays Mountain' - one of our biggest regrets of the night was not videoing Born Healer's (pictured) monster cover of Zep's 'Since I've Been Loving You' which made one young lady's evening - i.e. the fact Born Healer covered it - not that we didn't record it! Anyway it's that particular WRC Member's **th birthday today so our Vid Of The Day is dedicated to her - taken from the awesome 'The Song Remains The Same'. Happy Birthday!

As well as Malalaya, today's Track Of The Day also includes King King (pictured), Walter Trout and Half Deaf Clatch!

Vive La Musique! 18/11/15

"The irony was not lost on London's 100 Club crowd last Sunday, that just two night's earlier, an attrocity had been committed at another vibrant European Capital city. If that was not bad enough, the fact that the most heinous of the crimes had been committed at a live music venue in Paris made it all the more sickening - if that were possible. So Born Healer's Helen Turner's welcome was all the more poignant as she reflected and thanked the audience for supporting this gig."

Read AJ's full 'Corky Laing Plays Mountain' review here, see John Bull's latest pics here plus have a look at our new Corky Laing Vid Of The Day and The Rainbreakers Track Of The Day.

Mountain Time! 16/11/15

This legendary power-rock band made its electrifying debut at Woodstock, in the summer of 1969. Thirty-five years and millions of album sales later, the line up still included the whiskeyvoiced singer/guitarist, Leslie West, and the incomparable Corky Laing on drums when the WRC saw them at the Mick Jagger Centre, Dartford, in 2005. Another ten years down the line, and with West doing his own thing (watch out for news of a new CD release later this week), we're at the iconic 100 Club in London to see "Corky Laing plays Mountain" supported by our buddies The Rainbreakers and Born Healer. ELO, ELO - Jeff Lynne's Back! 15/11/15

Hot on the heels of last year’s London Hyde Park 50,000 sellout, Jeff Lynne has not only just released 'Alone In The Universe' - ELO's first album since 2001’s 'Zoom' - but has subsequenty announced a European Tour in April/May next year. Suffice to say the WRC will be there to witness one of Jeff's London O2 Arena dates here - we can't wait!

Don't forget that this Tuesday's gig is Malaya Blue at the usual venue: the Hooley Village Club, St. Margaret's Road, Hooley Village, Coulsdon, Surrey, CR5 3RB.

King King Prove Their Credentials! 13/11/15

"Often when bands announce they’re about to play songs from their new album, you can almost hear the audience groaning.  This definitely wasn’t the case last night: King King’s ‘Reaching for the Light’ has already won awards and is not only faster, louder and more energetic, it is also their most acclaimed and most exciting album to date.  All the songs from the album were well received: the bustling riffs and tough vocals in ‘Hurricane’, the ballad ‘Lay with Me’, Lindsay’s pulsating bass on ‘Crazy’ and the slower, powerful Blues of ‘Stranger to Love’, well suited to Alan’s vocal range."

Read the rest of Big Ian's excellent review here plus see our Vid Of The Day.

Well WRC member 'Big' Ian Cawthron and Mr. Rockrpix John Bull will be stepping up to the plate tonight so watch out for their take over the coming days. Trout + Nimmo = Route 66! 11/11/15

Today's Track Of The Day has two special guest interviews on this week's Route 66 show. Blues legend Walter Trout chats to Rory Auskerry  about writing his latest album, 'Battle Scars'. Now recovered after a lengthy period in hospital for a liver transplant, Walter talks about the experience, his recovery, learning how to play guitar, and how good it feels to be back on stage again. As if that wasn’t enough on it’s own, Rory follows that up with an interview with Alan Nimmo, the singer and guitarist from one of Scotland’s most successful Blues and Rock bands. King King have won dozens of awards for their three albums to date and Alan talks frankly about the making of those records, debates over the band’s musical direction and touring with Blues legend John Mayall and later this year, Rock groups Gun and Thunder!

The Bowness Bay Blues has built a reputation as 'a flagship for the very best of British Blues' and from 18th - 20th March 2016, the festival will again offer a wide range of top-class music, from acoustic to Chicago-style blues, from roots, soul and funk to electric blues-rock. The Friday highlight will be Trafficker, fronted by superb guitarist, singer and songwriter Tommy Allen. The Saturday headliner will be Sean Webster and the Deadlines (today's Track Of The Day), one of the best bands on the British and European blues scene, showcased in our WRC 'Introducing ...' feature here in February. And the festival will finish with virtuoso multi-instrumentalists Wille and the Bandits, listed in BBC Radio 1's top ten must-see bands at Glastonbury 2014.

A Rocking Christmas Party! 10/11/15

Just over three weeks to go now before Albany Down and Southbound rock The Horn in St Albans at the WRC Xmas Party on Wednesday 2nd December. Rumour has it that Albany Down (our Vid Of The Day) will be rocking up at least one Xmas classic and who knows what Southbound have in mind - it's going to be a rocking Xmas party so don't miss out - tickets available from here or here. Don't forget that WRC members tickets are £5 - just e-mail wrcpromotions@aol.com to reserve your members ticket!

Back Door Santa! 10/11/15

Also appearing at the Bowness Bay Blues on Sunday 20th March 2016 are our mates The John Verity Band. And with Friday 25th December on the horizon, JV has a new  Xmas EP available here. JV told us "We chose some slightly rude, but funny tracks this time to make you chuckle this Yuletide whilst enjoying your Blues..." Meanwhile JV's next gig is an acoustic set with Russell Rodford (Jim's son) this Saturday 14th November at The 2 Brewers at Northaw, Potters Bar - starting at 8.30pm.

Underworld Rocks Out! 9/11/15

"Well headliners Crobot are an American hard rock band from Pottsville, Pennsylvania, composed of Brandon Yeagley (vocals/harmonica) , Chris Bishop (guitar), Jake Figueroa (bass) and brother Paul Figueroa (drums). Their album 'Something Supernatural' smacks of Creed, Wolfmother and Velvet Revolver - so it was fitting that they launched proceedings with 'The Legend Of The Spaceborne Killer' - testament that there was going to be no let up in the intensity of the evening. Other 'SS' tracks were lapped up by the Crobot faithful particularly the classy 'Skull Of Geronimo',  'Le Mano de Lucifer', 'Nowhere To Hide' and the brilliant 'The Queen Of The Light'. Yeagley's vocals, stage presence (and harmonica on 'The Necromancer')  were immense, Jake's antics were reminiscent of Animal from The Muppets playing bass, Bishop is literally huge (and more importantly plays a mean guitar) whilst Paul's driving drums pulled it all together.

Go to our Crobot Photo Gallery here, read the rest of AJ's review here plus see our Scorpion Child Vid Of The Day.

Sugarman Sam And The Voodoo Men 9/11/15

Further to last Monday's release of our new webpage 'LastMinuteBandz' - the WRC Promotions pool for venues of Rock, Blues, Tribute and Covers bands - we're delighted today to add Sugerman Sam and the Voodoo Men to the fold. Formed in November 2013, Sugarman Sam and the Voodoo Men combine classic elements of Blues and combine them with the raucous power of Rock. Sugarman Sam is a Bluesman through-and-through; being brought up on a diet of high-profile names like B.B. King, Led Zeppelin and Gary Moore to name a few. To book Sam and the guys - please go to their dedicated webpage here

New England Blues Summit! 9/11/15

So how many WRC members are up for the New England Blues Summit taking place at Cape Cod Resort & Conference Centre between 13th and 15th May 2016? Indeed, the WRC were recently tagged on Facebook by USA WRC member Dave Riley to see if we were interested in making it to this event which includes Saturday headliner Samantha Fish and Sunday headliner Joe Louis Walker. Why not give us a shout if you're interested in going or alternatively download their poster (pictured) for further information!

"You're Only Supposed To Blow The Bloody Doors Off!" 8/11/15

The Underworld rocked as Buffalo Summer (Vid Of The Day), Scorpion Child (pictured) and headliners Crobot blew the bloody roof off of the Camden venue on Friday night. Whilst both Buffalo Summer and Scorpion Child superbly showcased their 'Zep' influences - Crobot's energetic performance was a dream for anyone into Creed, Wolfmother and Velvet Revolver! Review to follow tomorrow but in the meantime take a look at our photo gallery here!

Doing The Business! 8/11/15

We were delighted to hear from our old mucker Alan - the bass guitarist from 'Blues Business' who memorably opened for the WRC at Bluesfest 2013! Anyway the guys released a  new album in  July - 'Who's been talkin' and it has been reviewed in this month's Blues in Britain magazine (pictured) - with another review due in next month's Blues Matters!

Who Made The Cut? 8/11/15

With the exception of a bit of Frankie Miller and Blacktop Deluxe (pictured), all the tracks on today's Track Of The Day have been chosen by the listeners of Blues On The Marsh! Expect a varied and eclectic bunch from The Marshman - originally broadcast on Friday night - and hear who made the cut!

Something Supernatural! 7/11/15

So much good music - so little time! The WRC are so fortunate to have strong ties with fans, bands and of course publicists. Consequently Pennsylvanian band Crobot have been on the WRC radar for a while now but it wasn't until AJ (appropriately on a flight back from the US recently) found 'Something Supernatural' on the Virgin playlist (among other WRC favourites such as Blues Pills, Steven Wilson and Blackberry Smoke) - something that AJ was well impressed with! Fortuitously he recalled they were due to play The Underworld in London - and to be told if you’re a fan of the album you’ll be absolutely blown away by their live show - consequently last night's gig was a no-brainer. Anyway a review and John Bull's pics to come - but in the meantime enjoy today's VId Of The Day taken live last night!

Free Bernie Marsden Gig Today! 7/11/15

Yes your eyes aren't deceiving you! Bernie Marsden will be playing a FREE show at the Brooklyn Bowl today at 4.30pm - part of the Prudential Bluesfest! At a rough guesstimate Bernie Marsden’s name appears on a hundred albums – maybe more. In addition to a long-running solo career the Buckinghamshire-born guitarist has been a recording musician since the early 1970's via membership of such groups as Whitesnake, UFO, Wild Turkey, Babe Ruth, Paice Ashton & Lord, Cozy Powell’s Hammer, Alaska, M3 and many more. Though there’s a tendency to pigeonhole him as a blues-rock guitarist, each of Marsden’s acts had its own individual flavour. Consequently  ‘Trouble’ - featuring David Coverdale no less - is our Track Of The Day!

New Federal Charm + Jess & The Bandits Pics 7/11/15

Not only was Mr. Rockrpix on the prowl at The Underground last night but John has now released his own amazing photo galleries from the recent Federal Charm Jazz Cafe gig here and Jess & The Bandits Borderline gig here. Look out for a review, pics and a vid over the coming days.

"Hey guys, great to see myself included in the new music section - as a full-time independent artist this kind of promotion means a lot." You're more than welcome Matt - so much so that let's re-introduce you to Matt's band with today's Vid Of The Day! Taken at The Cropredy Fringe Festival a few months ago - it's ‘Don’t Need You Anymore’ from their new album ‘Four Berry Jam’.

Happy 2nd Birthday BOTR! 5/11/15

Long May You Rock! 4/11/15

Thanks to all of you for your messages of support following the publication of our November 2015 WRC Bulletin. It was particularly good to hear from our mate Pete Lovett of Midnight Blues Train who we featured on our 'Introducing ....' page in March. Pete told us that he also saw Joe Bonamassa in Cardiff last week plus the fact that MBT have released a newer track 'Long Time Coming' which is our Track Of The Day!

History In The Making! 3/11/15

"The second half really did focus on the world-conquering half of U2’s career. And the set closing back-to-back ‘Where The Streets Have No Name’, ‘Pride’ and ‘With or Without You’ would be hard to beat in any setting. And here they were simply majestic, just colossal pop rock songs.  Edge’s guitar fills space like no other guitarist can claim. An elaborate effects board, multiple amps, and extraordinary technique meant that Bono had already at the beginning rightfully introduced Edge as the genius of the band. He is not wrong."

Go to an updated U2 Photo Gallery here and read the rest of Wrinkly The Silver's review here.

Go Joe! 3/11/15

On the first night of his UK tour, the guitar legend Joe Satriani joined Rory Auskerry on Sunday night's Route 66 for a special interview. On today's Track Of The Day they discuss some of the stories behind his songs, why Joe has never really taken to writing lyrics, how artificial constraints can help during the creative process and how not all rock singers are created equal. Along with music from throughout Satriani’s career, there are also new tracks from Mike Zito & The Wheel, Billy Gibbons & The BFG’s, King King, Geoff Carne, Keith Richards and Jenny Kerr.

Awesome Talent On The Marsh! 2/11/15

Such an array of awesome talent adorns this week's Blues on the Marsh Track Of The Day.  Tracks from Connie Lush, Danielle Nicole, Will Wilde, Vintage Trouble (pictured at BST Hyde Park), Will Johns, Jeff Healey, Walter Trout, John Clifton, King Edward, Lewis Foreman, Kris Dollimore, The Boom Band, The Stone Foxes, Ron Sayer and Charlotte Joyce, Mavis Staples, Robert Lucas, Sean Taylor, The Jimmys, Ramon Goose and Modou Toure, Randall Bramblett and The Tom Kilner Band await you!

Trick Of The Tale! 1/11/15

"The tour was to promote her new album ‘The Dirty Truth’ and it was clear that tracks on the album were very personal in nature and were aimed at the break up of her relationship with a “shitty” boyfriend – ‘Tried Tested and True’ is an incredibly strong Blues track which is really sung from the heart – not sure the hurt has completely gone though. Contrast this with the wonderful acoustic track ‘Almost Always Never’ which was written about her mothers battle with cancer – again sung with real feeling and you have two total contrasts from what most people associate with JST i.e. in your face Blues/Rock with ear splitting solos. Add in the fact that the new album includes some countrified tracks and you can immediately see that JST is determined not to be known as a one trick pony."

Go to an updated Joanne Shaw Taylor Photo Gallery here which also includes John Bull's pics from Monday night, read the rest of Wrinkly's review here plus have a look at today's Federal Charm Vid Of The Day!

Happy Anniversary JB & Queen! 1/11/15

So what's the deal with both Joe Bonamassa and Queen celebrating anniversaries this weekend? Well we're indebted to Wrinkly The Silver (who by the way took in JB with surprisel guest Bernie Marsden at Brighton last night) for pointing out that this weekend marks the 40th Anniversary of ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’. With over 6.5 million copies sold worldwide to date, ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’ is one of the world’s most well known songs and so deservedly is our Track of The Day. And as for Joe - well the guitar legend fulfils a promise that he made 10 years ago and performs a special concert tonight at Mr. Kyps in Poole, Dorset - the same venue where he played his first ever UK concert back in 2005!  And if you're lucky enough to be going tonight then please give us a shout!
