Get Your Motor Runnin'! 28 Feb 2015
The Replicants lead singer Joe Head recently contacted the WRC about our Wrinklystock III DVD/MP3. Firstly the WRC would like to place on record our major thanks to Colin and Matt Thomas for producing a fitting tribute to a memorable night and secondly - despite us recently showcasing two tracks from the awesome Bohemians - we thought it was only fair to reflect what a brilliant job The Replicants did on the night - hence our brand new 'Video Of The Day!' By the way, you can order your Wrinklystock III DVD/MP3 here - and of course - The Replicants will keep that motor runnin' when they return to Wrinklystock IV on Saturday 21st November. Be warned tickets are selling fast!
Introducing ..... Phillip Foxley 28 Feb 2015
It's becoming more and more apparent to us at Wrinkly Towers that our members are certainly a talented lot. Take for example North Wales based UK songwriter/guitarist Phillip Foxley who is todays 'Introducing ...' feature and is also our 'Track Of The Day'. Phil has a long background of musical experience spanning back to the 1970’s where he got his start not only gaining experience live on stage but as an accomplished studio session player as well. With an influence ranging in diversity from David Bowie to Black Sabbath to Mountain along with a number of the Blues greats, he has formed his own signature sound of Blues/Rock music. He has recently released a home studio demo EP sampler entitled 'One Song Is All You Need..' and his intention is to release a professionally recorded debut album early this year.
Robin Bibi On ROTR Tonight! 28 Feb 2015
Not only is 'Rock On The Ridge' the place for great Rock and Blues music every Saturday night from 8-10pm (UK Time) but this week they feature WRC Award winner and 2014 BluesFest star Robin Bibi. WRC members Jules and Bob always try to champion new bands and unsigned music on air - and if you have a band or tracks you would like to hear then why not drop them an e-mail or tweet them? We also hope to bring you the podcast of the show as our 'Track Of The Day' next week.
The Night Gary Called Us C**t's! 27 Feb 2015
Sam Kelly's brilliant anecdotes on Richard Dunning's recent Blues On The Radio podcast - and in particular re: the late great Gary Moore - reminded us all of Gary's gig at Charlotte Street Blues in London on 6th April 2010. It was a last minute gig at an intimate setting and not only were the WRC lucky to get tickets but we also managed to get right up and close to the great man himself. Gary opened with 'Oh Pretty Woman' and immediately a few of us down the front made the most of our advantageous position by taking a few pics. Unfortunately, Mr. Moore took exception to this after 'OPW' in warning us - "You c**t's taking pictures better have a licence!" At this point - to a man - and with discretion being the better part of valour - we all decided to put our cameras away. Anyway one guy kept his video running - hence our awesome 'VOTD' - and if you look closely towards the left of the stage you can spot Wrinkly and AJ at the front! And finally - one of the pics AJ did manage to take - adorned our official WRC t-shirt as a tribute to Gary when he tragically died the following year.
Introducing ..... Adam Grogdope 27 Feb 2015
Today we actually spotlight a new WRC member in our 'Introducing ....' feature - Blues vocal guitarist Adam Grogdope. Yes Adam is our 'Track Of The Day' with his imaginatively entitled CD 'A Bluesman Plays AC/DC and Other Awesome Stuff' .... a unique take on some Rock and Blues classics. No doubt Adam will go down a storm when he plays the intimate BB's Blues Club at the Colour House Theatre, Merton Abbey Mills SW19 2RD on Sunday 22nd March at 8pm. It's also a fundraiser and you can buy tickets in advance here for £7 or if there are any left on the night, which we doubt, they will be £9.
.... Plus Introducing The Blacktop's New Anchorman 27 Feb 2015
Blacktop Deluxe have announced their new bass man - Rob Martin! Rob (pictured) will be 'killing it' on that Fender jazz bass and anchoring the groove alongside Alan and Keith from March 21st. Rob comes into The Blacktop's from the highly acclaimed outfit, 'The Smokin Olives' and he joins in good time to be part of the second Blacktop Album due for recording/release in the summer. News also reaches us that Absolution bass guitarist Ben Gardner left the band at the end of 2014. His replacement is Andy Palmer who already has an established track record of playing with top names the world over. You can see Absolution in action on both our Bluesfest DVD's on sale here.
Stark Supporting Jo Harman! 26 Feb 2015
WRC Award winners Stark have won a competition to open for Jo Harman next week in Worthing on Thursday 5th March. Understandably, Stark are not only well-pleased to be opening for Jo but they will also be releasing their exciting new single 'Tunnel Vision' here, as a free download next Monday 2nd March.
Has Anyone Here Seen Kelly? 26 Feb 2015
Our pal Richard Dunning is unquestionably a man of many talents - but not only did he promote the Sam Kelly Band gig at The Tuesday Night Music Club the other night - he was also joined in the Croydon Radio studio by Sam just before the gig! Anyway our 'Track Of The Day' is Richard's usual journey through the best of the Blues as the multi-award winning drummer chats about his career to date, playing his choice of music and generally takes over the show!
Bowness Bay Blues Is A Hot Ticket! 26 Feb 2015
The fourth Bowness Bay Blues Weekend takes place from Friday 27th March to Sunday 29th March - with the organisers particularly excited about this year’s line-up, which includes some award-winning acts. Sunday headliners David Migden and the Twisted Roots represented the UK at the 2014 European Blues Challenge in Riga. And Laurence Jones, the Saturday headliner, was not only nominated in our 2014 WRC Awards, but actually won ‘Young Artist of the Year’ in the British Blues Awards. He has followed that up by being selected to represent the UK in Brussels in the European Blues Challenge in March 2015, only a couple of weeks before his appearance at Bowness Bay Blues! Tickets are now on sale here from The Brewery Arts Centre, Kendal.
Wrinkly The Silver's Smoke Signals! 25 Feb 2015
The WRC first caught up with Blackberry Smoke when the Islington Academy became part of the Confederacy almost a year ago. Consequently the guys from Atlanta, Georgia, walked away with our 2014 'Best International' award! Indeed Wrinkly The Silver was there that night and now he gives us his excellent take on their new CD 'Holding All The Roses' of which "Too High' is our 'Video Of The Day'.
Walk This Way! 25 Feb 2015
It's always good to get our weekly update from our friends Walkway who are definitely on the up and up and are again supporting Status Quo this year! Accordingly our 'Track Of The Day' is taken from the title track of their second album released in September 2014. With 2014 proving to be a mega year for the band, 2015 is already looking to be Walkway’s biggest year to date, with big show supports already confirmed, large festival appearances in the pipeline plus working with some very big and influential industry people. Check them out!

Introducing .... Innes Sibun 24 Feb 2015
A liitle birdie tells us that a few WRC members are off to the 100 Club tonight - the headliners being Del Bromham's Blues Devils. However, even though the Blue Devils are good - the main reason for their outing is to see the support - namely the Innes Sibun Band - hence our 'Introducing ... ' feature and our 'Video Of The Day'. Renown for doing the Blues, the whole blues and nothing but the blues - Innes is an amazing rock guitarist who is worth the admission money alone. Why not get down there and check his band out?

Henrit and Mallender. Go here for tickets for their forthcoming Stables gig on Saturday 4th April - the band for this one being Bob Henrit on drums and Bob Skeat on bass. Rock On The Ridge! 22 Feb 2015
We've always said that our WRC members are a talented bunch and Bob Wilson and Julia Maidment are no exception. Not only did Bob provide us with some awesome pics from our Blacktop Deluxe/Loose Moorings Fiddler's Elbow gig last Saturday - but Bob and Julia gave a review of the gig on Ridge Radio on the 'Rock on the Ridge' show last night. We will try and bring you the footage over the next couple of days!

Jon has been the guy behind both our Bluesfest video's plus the amazing pics he took at Bluesfest 2013 and Wrinklystock I and 2. Jon is a freelance photographer and videographer with a number of years experience in the commercial market and has worked on a wide variety of projects - from corporate instructional and promotional films - to PR and press shoots on location. Introducing .... The Hexmen 20 Feb 2015
Our 'Track Of The Day' is a band founded by frontman, vocalist and harmonica player George Hexman in the late 70's, joining forces with major movers and shakers of the Liverpool music scene. Although they have always been known as a Blues band, The Hexmen’s material is not that easy to categorise. The band’s music is Blues based certainly but the defining quality of The Hexmen has always been energy with an aggressive, indie edge and a psychedelic undercurrent that lends extra dimensions to the music. The current band members have an exciting pedigree. George himself (also a much sought after session Blues harp player) - on guitar Ian Fuller, one of the UK's foremost Blues guitarists who has played alongside some of the greats including Steve Gibbons - and bass player Mike Cain and Mat Shaw on drums who previously gigged together for over 25 years before joining The Hexmen.
Liam's Got What It Takes! 20 Feb 2015
In a back street in Bromley, Kent, The Replicants turned up for rehearsal as usual but this time it was no ordinary evening. They had invited 14 year-old Liam O'Kane along to sit in on proceedings and show what he had got!! They were more than pleasantly surprised as Liam powered his way through Lil Devil, Pretender, Smoke On The Water, Tush and Johnny B. Goode. He is a talented young man as our albeit distorted 'Video Of The Day' shows. We hope to have more exciting news about Liam to follow - watch this space!!

Anyway Bluesfest stars from 2013 Nicky Moore and Danny Kyle stepped in and as they say the rest is history at they went down a storm as the WRC expected. Therefore our 'Track Of The Day' is Moore & Kyle of which the DVD/CD is still available from our merchandise page here!
The Blue Bishops Are In Town! 19 Feb 2015

Recently spotlighted in our 'Introducing ...' feature, The Blue Bishops work at the rocky end of the R&B and Blues spectrum. Yet, at the same time they are acknowledged for the sensitivity and dynamics of performances that can go from a whisper to a roar in just a few moments.
A career spanning over 15 years has seen them perform in every kind of venue and situation from Holland and Hungary to Belgium and The Bahamas. Their last studio CD ‘Deep’ was awarded 9/10 by Blues Matters, who nominated it among the top ten albums of the year and they are currently writing their new album. Sharpees Are Our Track Of The Day! 18 Feb 2015
It was good to catch up with our old mate Bill Mead of The Sharpees at The Fiddler's Elbow the other night. Blacktop Let Loose On Valentine's Night! 16 Feb 2015
Blacktop Deluxe and Loose Moorings rode into Chalk Farm on Valentine's night with only one thing in mind and it wasn't romance!! This was their chance to show the Capital what they are all about and boy did they do that.
Loose Moorings were using this gig to launch their new album Loose Moorings II and they were in no mood to ease in gently. Ironically they opened with my favourite track off their first album - the classic 'Think I'd Be Blue' and that set the tone for their set which included all but two tracks off the new album. I could wax lyrical about so many of the songs in their set because they were all quality but I have a soft spot for the first track they sent me - namely 'Ride' which made the decision to book them very easy. Other highlights for me were 'Magpie' and a trip to the dark side with 'A Crazy Sane'. Guys we took a punt on you - you said you wouldn't let us down and you didn't - love the album and looking forward to you supporting Virgil and the Accelerators on Saturday 1st May.
Next up were Blacktop Deluxe who had made the 'short' trip from Cornwall after a gig last night!! Jet Lag didn't show however as they launched into their set which is full of road driven Blues Rock. Don't imagine though that the band are one dimensional - far from it. Mixing their own material from the superb 'Turn Up Be Nice Play Hard' album (which sums them up perfectly by the way) with classic tracks such as 'Hoochie Coochie Man', 'Crossroads' and the brilliant Led Zep classic 'When the Levee Breaks' - the set never left you with the feeling they are just filling in with certain numbers. Add in the heart wrenching tribute to guitarists who are no longer with us in 'Another Man Down' and you have the perfect mix - a quality set from a band that are very much on the up and deservedly so!! Next time these guys are in town do yourself a favour and go and see them.
Last but not least AJ and myself would like to thank both bands for all the work they put in to the evening, not only on the night, but in their efforts to promote the gig. It's a pity that, considering how far the bands had travelled, that the locals couldn't be bothered to turn out :(
Wrinkly
Valentine's Day Spectacular! 15 Feb 2015
Blacktop Deluxe and Loose Moorings made the ultimate sacrifice of being in the other half's bad books worthwhile last night. Two storming sets of good ol' Blues Rock made the punters who braved the Fiddler's Elbow in Chalk Farm forget about being in the proverbial dog house. Anyway, our 'Video Of The Day' is testament to what a great gig it was - with a review, more pics and vids to follow tomorrow. And if you were there last night then give us a shout by e-mailing us below! Cheers.
ZZ Top's Off 3 WRC Gigs In A Week! 15 Feb 2015
Following our recent 'Track Of The Day' featuring Rory Auskerry's 'Route 66' - the inevitable tweet from Rory arrived - "Are you guys going to ZZ Top in London on June 24th?" The gig had crossed our minds at Wrinkly Towers but with The Foo Fighters on Saturday 20th and The Who on Friday 26th - was this going to be a gig too far for the Wrinkly Rockers? What the heck - 'Silver' stepped up to the plate with standing tickets so it's going to be a memorable week! See you there Rory - and if any of you out there are going to any of these gigs - then please let us know!

Anyway, don't just take our word for it - go to Rockrpix's website here where you can see for yourself and get further information on how to hire John for your gig. And if your business has something that you feel would appeal to the many visitors to our site - then don't be shy - just get in touch as we would be delighted to hear from any new sponsors which can help towards the maintenance of our website! Cheers!

Introducing ....... Teddy Garcia 11 Feb 2015
We were delighted to hear from Enrico Cipollin, lead singer and guitarist of the Italian Blues Rock band Underground Railroad following their recent feature. Well today we're a bit closer to home with Teddy Garcia, who has spent most of his life roaming the world but is now settled in the South of France following a lifelong dream of writing songs and performing live. Inspired by many genres, the Blues is where Teddy feels most at home and is the foundation of most of his songs. All his travel experiences have exposed Teddy to a broad range of musical influences and this all comes together in our 'Track Of The Day'. Enjoy!

Charlie's Angels 10 Feb 2015
Good to hear from Charlie Hart from Slim Chance on their '2014 Best Acoustic Performance' WRC award. "I see we've been voted in, which feels like a great honour!" Seven year's after Ronnie Lane's death, Charlie was asked to put together a Slim Chance line up to act as house band at a projected Ronnie Lane Memorial Concert at the Albert Hall in 2004. The band that Charlie assembled contained Henry McCullough, Chrissie Stewart and Alun Davies (all of whom were original Slim Chance members) and they were joined by Geoff Dugmore and Geraint Watkins. They performed a couple of songs as a unit and were then joined by a succession of guests: Keith Smart, Chris Jagger, Sam Brown, Glen Matlock, Mick Jones, Pete Townshend, Paul Weller and finally Ron Wood. And as they say the rest is history as they intend to release a new album, mostly originals plus of course a few Ronnie songs in September and also intend to get out and about gigging in the Autumn. Anyway, enjoy our 'Video Of The Day'.

Solid Gold Easy Action! 7 Feb 2015
Back in 1994 we were already attempting to 'Keep Music Live' by supporting promoter Fred Taylor at The Woodman in Blackfen, Kent, by writing reviews of his 'Ride To Rock' gigs. Anyway, we came across a band called T.Rextasy who blew us away with their tribute to the late great Marc Bolan. Just over 20 years later, T.Rextasy ('Video Of The Day') are the only band to have been authorised and endorsed by Marc Bolan's catalogue management, and are now recognised as the 'official' Marc Bolan/T.Rex tribute band. So we are proud and privileged to announce that they will headline our 4th Wrinklystock Charity Gig - this will be a sell out just like last year and tickets are already selling fast so don't miss out and get your tickets here.

We're Gonna Need A Bigger Boat! 4 Feb 2015
Given the title of Ryan Bingham's new album 'Fear And Saturday Night' - it was certainly a case of apprehension and Monday night as we approached the sold out Borderline in London. We obviously had reservations about Academy award winner Bingham performing a solo acoustic set without his dearly departed 'Dead Horses' - who we salivated over when first saw them at Hard Rock Calling in June 2011. Not only that but the evening was further stripped back with no support although the good news was that we consequently stumbled across a nugget of a rock pub close by before getting back to The Borderline for a 9pm start!
Fresh from his previous night's gig at King Tuts in Glasgow - the Americana singer/songwriter launched into 'The Poet' - the first track of off 'Junky Star' - it's intimacy immediately palpable - the scene was set for a memorable evening. Another Dead Horses and 'Junky Star' classic followed - 'Depression' and the gig just flowed with the Hollywood in Bingham clearly evident in not only his looks (pics are here girls) but also his touching personal anecdotes that included his Grandfather and hitchhiking! But at the end of the day it was all about his delivery of a guitar and a voice to die for - perfectly illustrated on 'Hallelujah' - yet another stand out track from 'Junky Star' - which understandably charted in the US in 2010.
What about 'Fear And Saturday Night' I hear you ask? Well the smell of fear when you generally hear the introduction "This is from the new album" was not an issue - given the seamless way in which 'Broken Heart Tattoos', 'Radio' 'Top Shelf Drug' (Video Of The Day) and the title track stood up to his big hitters. Have to say though that the stand out tune of the night was the encore 'Bread And Water' and if that didn't get your juices going then there's no hope I'm afraid. Anyway Bingham proved last night what a consumate performer he is - O ye of little faith we hear you cry! And the cherry on the 2015 cake is that Ryan is returning to London in October with - wait for it - his band! Do not miss out on that - although talking of Hollywood - we're gonna need a bigger boat!
Savouring Private Ryan! 3 Feb 2015
Academy award winner Ryan Bingham certainly delivered the goods at an intimate and sold out Borderline in London last night. Despite obvious reservations about Bingham performing a solo set without his dearly departed 'Dead Horses' - we already feel we have a nomination for our 2015 WRC 'Best Acoustic Performance award'! Anyway check out our 'Video Of The Day' and watch this space for more vids, pics and a review. And if you were there then give us a shout too!
