Another Inamo Success 29/10/16

Last Thursday night saw another excellent WRC members gig at The Onyx Bar, Covent Garden, featuring acoustic duo Amor & Fisk. Two outstanding sets were well received by all those present and courtesy of Rockrpix's John Bull we have a photo gallery here which of course captures the intimacy of another cracking evening.

Rockstars! 28/10/16

"As the first song came to an end, the band would show off just how much fun they have performing on stage, as their between-song-banter is second to none. Frontman Chad Kroeger jokes with the crowd like few others can, and how they’re able to stand on stage and sing “silly” songs with titles like ‘Something In Your Mouth’, which they’d go on to perform next.  Kroeger is something of a motormouth when it comes to his patter between songs. You largely suspect he loves the sound of his own voice, but as the frontman of one of the bigger bands in the world, you probably would need a sizeable ego to pull you through it .. or a couple of Jaegerbombs, courtesy of the suited-and-booted booze supplier/ tour manager Bradley which he and the band indulged in. . In short, he makes being a rockstar look like fun, rather than a full-time job like some of Nickelback's peers, and the girls on the front row are loving every second of The Chad. Not bad for a man once voted the ugliest man in rock!!!"

Real Life 27/10/16

Today's Track Of The Day is an infectious and hard-hitting return from the Birmingham sensation Stealth, fuelled by Bluesy riffs, a pounding rhythm and his gripping tones. ‘Real Life’ is an explosive stadium-sized anthem making a huge statement for the singer’s impressive follow up to his acclaimed, viral hit debut EP Intro. The release of Stealth’s debut EP Intro at the start of this year saw the singer championed by Radio 1, Radio 2, BBC 6Music and BBC Introducing, while he gained a wealth of high profile press support from The Independent, Shortlist, Konbini and many more. It spawned the huge hit ‘Judgement Day’, which has clocked up well over 4.5 million plays across YouTube, Spotify and Apple Music. The Intro EP saw Stealth enter the iTunes Singer/Songwriter chart at No.2 and No.3 in the US. ‘Real Life’ is set to see Stealth continue his rise as one of the UK's most impressive new voices today. To celebrate the single's release, Stealth is playing a headline launch show at The Waiting Room, London, on Tuesday 15th November.

Cream Of The Crop 26/10/16

Last night's 'An Evening For Jack' at the newly reopened Shepherd's Bush Empire, marked the two year anniversary of the late Cream bassist's passing in 2014, aged 71. Curated by Bob Harris plus Cream collaborator Pete Brown, and organised by Jack Bruce’s son Malcolm, it commemorated his extraordinary career,  walking through the major aspects of Jack's musical life, from the early days touring with bands like the Graham Bond Organisation, through to Cream and beyond. Musicians paying their tributes included of course Ginger Baker plus Steve Hackett, Mick Taylor (pictured), Bernie Marsden and Lulu - to name but a few. All proceeds raised will to be donated to Nordoff Robbins and Jack’s favourite local charity, East Anglian Children’s Hospices. Watch out shortly for a review and some more pics plus check out today's Vid Of The Day.

Inamo Guest List Still Open! 26/10/16

Don't forget that there is still time to get on the WRC guest list at The Onyx Bar, Covent Garden, for tomorrow night's gig featuring Amor & Fisk. As with the first event it will be free for WRC members and there will be 20% off food in the restaurant and there is a happy hour from 5pm - 8pm. The guest list will be limited to 70 so if you want to join us and bring a guest then message us asap in the contact box below. The Joel Fisk & Jon Amor Electro Acoustic Duo originally came together as an experiment in the Summer of 2014, when the pair embarked on a short tour of the UK. The chemistry hasn’t gone unnoticed, as they’ve been nominated in the Acoustic Act of the Year category in the British Blues Awards two years running, leading them to be one of the most in-demand duos on the British Blues Scene.

Hughes & Keylock On Route 66 26/10/16

Glenn Hughes and Aaron Keylock are both guests on this week's Route 66 Track Of The Day! Host Rory Auskerry also plays music from both their new solo albums plus tracks from Bad Touch (pictured), Humble Pie, ZZ Top, Steve Miller Band, Aerosmith and Joe Satriani.

An Evening For Jack 25/10/16

"The word was that the desperately missed Gary Moore was originally going to be handed this gig. Given the sumptuous ease in which Moore knocked off Cream classic after classic with Jack at the Dick Heckstall-Smith Tribute at The Astoria in June 2005 - this would have been a no-brainer. So step up to the plate a certain Joe Bonamassa. The talk was also that it would be so fitting for Bruce and Bonamassa to take this opportunity - given it was a celebration of sixty years of British Blues - to pay homage to Moore himself. An ill advised pit stop resulted in me re-entering the auditorium just as Jack and Joe launched into Midnight Blues - and what a stunning tribute this was to Gary. If any of the Bruce faithful had not heard or seen Bonamassa before they were certainly sitting up and listening during Joe’s solo on ‘Theme For An Imaginary Western’ - from Jack's debut solo album, ‘Songs For A Tailor’."

Dateline: Saturday 4th June 2011 - Royal Festival Hall, London (pictured) - the last review we did of the late great Jack Bruce who's career is being celebrated at the Shepherd's Bush Empire tonight - and we will be there!

Old Habits Die Hard 25/10/16

No Sinner (Vid Of The Day) begin the UK leg of their Old Habits Die Hard tour tonight at London's Borderline. This follows the release of their new album of the same name in May through the Provogue/Mascot Label Group. 2014's 'Boo Hoo Hoo' was a classic debut album experience from Vancouver’s powerhouse frontwoman Colleen Rennison - the result of years spent fronting cover bands with players ten years her senior, writing with musicians more seasoned and eager to give direction. 'Boo Hoo Hoo' was raucous, rowdy and filled with soul and danger. It was the sound of a wild haired girl riding into the horizon on the back of her boyfriend’s motorcycle. On 'Old Habits Die Hard' Colleen isn’t sitting on the back of the motorcycle anymore. She’s barrelling down the highway, her grip on the throttle, and you better believe you’re going to hear her coming from miles away!

Monster Rock On The Ridge 25/10/16

Today's Rock On The Ridge Track Of The Day originally broadcast on Saturday night includes tracks from The Burning Crows, Monster Truck (pictured), Doomsday Outlaw, Clutch, Riot Horse, The Black Marbles, Hellyeah, Blue Helix, Svvamp, Jethro Tull, Shaman's Harvest, Big River, The Pretty Reckless, Aerosmith, Avenged Sevenfold, Graham Bonnet Band, The Virginmarys, Diamond Head, Nothing More, Luna Kiss and Empyr.

Power Of Trower 24/10/16

"No messing about as they dipped straight into the aforementioned 'BOS' - Richard Watts' bass intro on 'Too Rolling Stoned' kickstarting Trower's guitar as his first (and not his last) solo weaved around drummer Christopher Taggart's beat and Watts' vocals. And if his psychedelic Blues tones on 'See My Life' from 'Roots And Branches' did not give you a feeling of parallel's with Hendrix then I'm not sure what would - again another guitar journey that had you hanging off every twist and turn with Watt's vocal delivery the perfect foil. 'Not Inside - Outside' from 2010's 'The Playful Heart' had a hard act to follow - although another awesome guitar solo was punctuated fleetingly by Trower on vocals as was the whole of the title track from new album 'Where Are You Going To' - which proudly stood shoulder to shoulder with his set list so far."

Liquid Diet 23/10/16

RPWL guitarist Kalle Wallner (aka Blind Ego) has taken seven years to complete his third solo effort 'Liquid' - which was released last Friday and is today's Vid Of The Day. While 2007’s debut 'Mirror' sounded smooth and almost melancholic, the Freising-native Bavarian utilized the figurative steam hammer on 2009’s 'Numb' and served the audience with a tough as nails monster of Hard Rock heavily influenced by Metal. 'Liquid' now fuses the two earlier approaches without merely being a thrown together sum of its parts. In fact the elements were organically merged – and the result contains nine pieces of music that offer everything: from mighty Hard Rock melodies to brutal Heavy Metal riffing action all the way to emotionally charged passages.

More From The Marsh 23/10/16

Friday night's Blues On The Marsh show and today's Track Of The Day included tracks from Beth Hart (pictured), The Andy Drudy Disorder, Val Starr and The Blues Rocket, John Doe Trio, Hundred Seventy Split, Davey Knowles, Richard Ray Farrell and Marco Pandolfi, Half Deaf Clatch, Auld Man's Baccie, Nine Below Zero, Trev Turley and Friends, Thomas Duffy, Teresa James and The Rhythm Tramps, Blues Arcadia,  Sarah Spicer and The Automatic Blues Band, Jack Blackman, Sugar Ray and The Bluetones, Slidin' Slim and Eric Hansson, Cedell Davis and Timo Gross.

Tremor 22/10/16

The melodic croon of ‘Love Behind You’ firmly engages ears and thoughts with another side to the band’s sound where pulsating beats align with a melancholic caress of guitar as Burkey’s voice shines with emotive expression. Shades of Snow Patrol here without doubt and encapsulated by the acoustic led ‘Slide By’ straight after. Elegant and sombre, the track is a serenade of acoustic and melodic flames which also builds more aurally dramatic points in its contemplation. Indeed, the electric guitar hook that drifts in and out of that song is also reminiscent of the mighty Coldplay no less....

Nickelback/Monster Truck Photo Gallery 22/10/16

Despite the closure of North Greenwich Underground Station on Thursday night due to a security incident (you couldn't make it up) - it was well worth battling all the way through the travel disruption to the O2 Arena to see Nickelback again supported by the awesome Monster Truck. Anyway, with a review from Wrinkly The Silver to come check out our Photo Gallery here which, be warned,  includes a few silly pics taken in Sky Backstage beforehand!

King King Live 22/10/16

King King start their UK tour on Wednesday 9th November with their special guests Broken Witt Rebels.

Burn It To The Ground 21/10/16

We hold our hands up and admit that Nickelback were never really on the WRC radar until we saw them at London's O2 Arena four year's ago - and what a great night that was. Returning to the very same venue last night, after also playing Wembley Arena on Friday - the guys had lost none of their trademark entertainment - the evening totally enforced with brilliant support from Monster Truck - who have been on the WRC radar for quite some time now. Anyway with a review and more pics to come - check out today's Vid Of The Day.

Rockin The Blues - Part Deux! 21/10/16

Hot on the heels of last night's Rockin' The Blues part 1 with Broken Witt Rebels and the Kris Barras Band at The Proud in Camden - it's round two tonight as Kris and the guys travel down to Leo's Red Lion in Gravesend, Kent, to gig with both Salvation Jayne and Big River!

Blues Club Back 21/10/16

B. & The Blues Shacks.

Nickelback At London's O2 Arena 20/10/16

"The playlist was well thought out, with the more the gentile tracks of 'Someday' for example punctuating some of the heavier stuff, working the audience (who were lapping it up by this stage) through the various ranges of tempo that Nickelback offer. I particularly enjoyed 'Too Bad' which served to remind me of just how many good tracks this band has released over the years. 'Rockstar' predictably went down with the audience as you would expect!! Chad & Co continued to entertain the crowd throughout the evening, occasionally enjoying a pint on stage and enlightening us with their ever colourful tapestry of language. Fuel, quite literally, was poured on the fire as the occasional pint was launched into the ever gracious mosh pit down below!"

That was Matt McCarthy's take on Nickelback at London's O2 Arena four years ago (pictured) and we will be there to see them again tonight - supported by the awesome Monster Truck (today's Vid Of The Day).

Camden Rebels Tonight! 20/10/16

London's Trower Bridge 19/10/16

It was Robin's penultimate gig on his current UK tour and his special guest was none other than BluesRockFest headliners the Stevie Nimmo Band. As expected, Trower’'s set included tracks from his  latest album, “'Where You Are Going To”' plus of course 'BOS' and other classics such as 'Daydream' and 'See My Life'. Venues Day 2016 18/10/16

Today at London's Roundhouse, Louder Than War with the Music Venue Trust present Venues Day 2016  - a series of panels which will aim to get to the bottom of touring costs and the relationship between venues promoters, agents and artists working in the grassroots music venues sector. In other European countries the Grassroots Music Venue circuit is supported by grant funding to ensure that emerging artists have a place to play and develop their craft. Meanwhile in the UK, venues have fallen into decline and, in many cases, closed shop. Of the 25 venues that launched Oasis on their world dominating career, only 12 remain. The UK has seen more than 35% of its grassroots music venues close in the last decade.

We're Going To Islington 18/10/16

And on the subject of supporting venues, we are off to the Islington Assembly Hall tonight to see legendary Blues Rock guitarist and singer-songwriter, Robin Trower, best known for his 1974 milestone album “'Bridge of Sighs'”. It's Robin's penultimate gig on his current UK tour and his special guest is none other than BluesRockFest headliners the Stevie Nimmo Band (pictured and Vid Of The Day). Trower’'s latest album, “'Where You Are Going To”', was released in the UK earlier this year by Manhaton Records.

LastMinuteBandz - Ryk Mead Band 17/10/16

It's about time we added another band to our LastMinuteBandz roster and this band have been on the WRC radar for some time now. Yes today's Vid Of The Day is the Ryk Mead Band - a Blues artist, songwriter and great guitarist/vocalist who's album 'Chicago' was recently featured on the Paul Jones Show. With his band the London Blues Machine, he is always touring Blues venues in the South - so if you would like to book a well seasoned, truly original band with a new message plus a wealth of experience and unique talent - then simply head to their page here.

A Tip Of The Hat 17/10/16

Today's Black On Blues Track Of The Day includes Ritchie Porter, Eddie Martin, Starlite Campbell Band, AG Weinberger, Sammy Eubank, Ian Siegal (pictured) and Albany Down.

Fuzzwalker 17/10/16

And talking of Albany Down - Fuzzwalker is a raw, rousing, riff-driven Indie Brit-Rock band that AD bass guitarist Billy Dedman and drummer Donna Peters have helped form from the bottom up. Up front they have found the next Noel Gallagher in a young lad called Matt Brook from Isleworth, and boy can he write a tune. And then to finish up the line up they have unearthed Carlos, a fine young guitarist of Spanish origin. It's a bit of a departure from the Blues Rock they are most known for but they hope with your support it can help them elevate Fuzzwalker. The guys have recently recorded a demo which they think captures the electric energy they are feeling in the rehearsal room before the launch of their first EP!

Joe Plays The Taxman 16/10/16

'Revolver' by The Beatles is considered by many to be one of the greatest Rock albums ever made. Radio and television icon Howard Stern thinks so too and because it’s his favourite Beatles album, he created a very special celebration for its 50th anniversary. On Friday 7th October, the Howard Stern Show celebrated 'Revolver' with an all-star musical tribute featuring some of music’s best acts. The lineup included James Taylor performing 'Here, There and Everywhere', Cheap Trick playing 'She Said She Said', Gov’t Mule rockin’ 'And Your Bird Can Sing' and Joe Bonamassa with his rousing rendition of 'Taxman', the album’s lead track. Anyway check out today's Vid Of The Day of JB's encore at Liverpool's Cavern Club at the end of June and watch out for two well known WRC members in the crowd at around 6 minutes 59 seconds!

Scaling Up 14/10/16

Former Europe guitarist Kee Marcello recently played four UK shows prior to the release today of his new solo album ’Scaling Up’. Featured as today's Vid Of The Day, Marcello is using his past as a springboard to take a giant leap into the future - his new music firmly grounded in the songwriting tradition that made him a multi-platinum Rock star in the first place.  Kee explores the boundaries of Melodic Hard Rock with contemporary performances and a cracking production - an album his fans will crave.

Diamonds Are Forever 13/10/16

"Diamond Head’s current tour is timed to promote their latest album, ‘Diamond Head’, the band’s seventh studio album, but first for ten years.  Their set included five songs from the new album.  For many bands this would have given their audience a chance to relax, or visit the bar, while waiting for the next familiar number.  This was definitely not so for Diamond Head: although tinged with a modern rock feel, the new songs fitted seamlessly into the rest of the set, holding onto the recognizable sound that is unmistakeably Diamond Head.  One of them, ‘Shout at the Devil’ was even saved for the encore.  It had a pronounced riff and memorable chorus line: despite its unfamiliarity, the audience were soon clapping and singing along.  However my favourite of the five was ‘Diamonds’, with a great introduction and superb riffs.  As the song’s chorus says, “Diamonds are forever” and, if they continue to maintain the standard of this evening’s performance, so are Diamond Head!"

Bleeker 13/10/16

Canadian alt-rock outfit Bleeker have just completed their very first UK tour supporting Royal Republic and Dinosaur Pile Up. They recently  unveiled the lyric video for their new single ‘Where’s Your Money’ (today's Track Of The Day), taken from their critically acclaimed self-titled debut EP, which follows the lead single, and EP title track, ‘Highway’ which cross-pollinates the swagger of The Black Keys with a psych-tinged groove. With cutting guitars, bouncing rhythms and vocalist Taylor Perkins’ exquisite falsetto-led chorus vocals, ‘Where’s Your Money’ comes on like a spectacular cross between Scissor Sisters and Queens Of The Stone Age and promises huge things for the Toronto natives.

Back To Their Roots 13/10/16

The Rolling Stones are due to release their new album 'Blue & Lonesome' on Friday 2nd December, which takes them back to their Blues roots, when they performed on Eel Pie Island in the 1960's. Indeed, the Eel Pie Club in Twickenham has been preserving the heritage of the UK Rhythm & Blues and the birth of the Rolling Stones in the Twickenham/Richmond area since the year 2000 (pictured Ronnie Wood and his late brother Art performing at the Club), and is located at the Patch Nightclub, above the Cabbage Patch pub in London Road, Twickenham. In fact WRC Members get £2 off the normal admission on production of a valid WRC members card - so why not head off down there next Thursday 20th October to see The Downliners Sect?

Comfortably Numb 12/10/16

Well they certainly came, they saw and they conquered at the magnificent setting of The Royal Albert Hall last Monday night. Yes Brit Floyd not only rolled off some of Pink Floyd's classics but also threw in a few off the beaten track as they stopped off on their Space And Time Continuum World Tour.  A set consisting of 'The Wall', 'Animals', 'Wish You Were Here', 'The Division Bell' and 'Dark Side Of The Moon' also included a show-stopping rendition of 'Echoes' in its entirety! Anyway, check out our 'Run Like Hell' Vid Of The Day plus our photo gallery here.

Elles Blues At TNMC Tonite! 11/10/16

Bristol based Elles Bailey hasn't been dubbed a 'Blues Princess' for no reason. This young Bristolian cuts right against the grain in so many ways, that’s probably why she’s such a rapidly rising star in the British music scene. Nowadays Elles and her band (made up of some of Bristol’s brightest and finest) are currently tearing up the UK and European scene, scoring raves reviews at every place they play from Bristol to Berlin, with energy packed hi-octane performances. And tonight Elles' trademark gravelly voice will grace the Tuesday Night Music Club at the Comrades Club, 194 Brighton Road, Coulsdon, Greater London, CR5 2NF.

GT's Boos Band 10/10/16

"As suggested the first five tracks are all completely different in nature. ‘Seven Questions’ opens the album with its in your face road Blues with excellent guitar breaks which then leads into ‘High and Dry’ with it’s choppy, funky guitar licks and heartfelt vocals. Next up is ‘Amsterdam’ which is probably my favourite track on the album with a 70’s Prog feel – the song has lots of different moods and the guitar solos are very reminiscent of our old friend Tony Hands from Tea for the Wicked – great stuff!! Follow that with a traditional Blues offering ‘Baby Stop Your Crying’ and a wonderful acoustic track in ‘Walk My Path’ and you have the eclectic full house – ‘Walk My Path’ has a very Joe Bonamassa feel to it as heard on ‘Black Rock’."

High Hopes! 10/10/16

"I have to say I thought The British Pink Floyd did an absolutely stunningly first class job.  Not only were they brilliant musicians but had obviously spent an awfully long time learning how to play the songs exactly as Pink Floyd had written but, both guitarists must have spent years perfecting Gilmour’s very own inimitable style of guitar playing.  I thoroughly enjoyed the performance; the sound quality was superb but the sheer quality and authenticity of their performance did themselves proud.  A very great performance from a superbly brilliant and accomplished band of musicians.  If I was either Roger Waters or Dave Gilmour I would warmly congratulate The British Pink Floyd and a job very well done.  To call them a tribute band really does not do them justice at all – they were superb."

That was Phil Thornton's take on Brit Floyd at the RAH over five years ago and we are back there again tonight hopefully for more of the same!

The Blues Before The Storm 10/10/16

Today's Black On Blues Track Of The Day is another popular Blues women special featuring Tracy K, Annee 2CU Blues Band, JJ Thames, Lisa Biales, Red Butler (pictured), Husky Tones and Thornetta Davis.

Mondo Pulp Tour 8/10/16

In February 1978 they released the ground-breaking live album 'What Do You Want From Live' - recorded at London’s Hammersmith Apollo in November 1977, followed by their UK television debut on The Old Grey Whistle Test.  The Tubes features four original members - Fee Waybill (lead vocals), Roger Steen (guitar), Rick Anderson (bass) and Prairie Prince (drums), plus David Medd (keyboards), who has played with the Tubes since 2006.

Eyes Wide Open 7/10/16

"Another recurring theme in 'Eyes Wide Open' is Aynsley’s love of the movies, especially gangster films. 'Il Grande Mafioso' is the tale of a loser in a late night card game at a seedy bar run by mobsters.  The guitar and keyboards use Italian themes to give the song a slow throbbing pulse as a backdrop.  Set in the same seedy bar, Dishevelled uses sultry guitar work, with an amazing solo interlude, to tell the story of a bar-room liaison in three distinct stages: arriving, meeting and hooking up."

Goo Goo Dolls Kick Off UK Tour Tonite 7/10/16

The multi-Platinum and Grammy-nominated Goo Goo Dolls start their UK tour in Norwich tonight which culminates at London’s Eventim Apollo next Friday.  The band will also release a new single ‘Over and Over’ on Friday 28th October taken from the band’s current album ‘Boxes’, which has proven to be a highlight of the band’s recent North American live shows. ‘Boxes’ is a vibrant, sonically forward-looking album that manages to retain what their legions of fans love about the Goo Goo Dolls - indelible melodies, intimate, heartfelt lyrics, and the anthemic, uplifting vibe of their songs - while pushing new boundaries in terms of sound and production.

Once Upon A Time In Texas 6/10/16

"An unexpected but excellent opening steel-string instrumental arrangement of Simon and Garfunkel's classic 'Mrs. Robinson' is trumped by Johnson's piano and vocals on his next track, the beautiful 'Water Under The Bridge'. Of course, better known for his guitar playing, Johnson gets out his prized 1980 Martin D-45 acoustic guitar  - a gift from his late father - on 'Wonder' - another great vocal by Johnson - doing his dad proud. It's back to piano for Johnson on 'Wrapped in a Cloud', a neatly constructed vocal ensemble track with cellist John Hagen, longtime Johnson accompanists Tommy Taylor and Wayne Salzmann on drums and Roscoe Beck and Chris Maresh on acoustic bass. And he's back playing the steel-string on the explosive instrumental 'Once Upon a Time in Texas' - very reminiscent of Townshend's acoustic guitar in the masterpiece that is 'Tommy'. The second cover on 'EJ' is Johnson's vocal rearrangement of Hendrix's 'One Rainy Wish' for guitar and piano, capping the performance with a jazz-inflected piano solo plus haunting backing vocals."
