Smoking Guns Tonight 31/8/18

Following over a decade apart, Tracii Guns and Phil Lewis reunited under the L.A. Guns’ (Video Of The Day) banner and in October 2017 released one of the most praised albums in their catalogue with ‘The Missing Peace’. Landing on many international charts, the band’s fans evidently agreed with the critical consensus. A well received European tour that also displayed their rediscovered energy and enthusiasm resulted in the recent live album ‘Made In Milan’. The band return to the UK starting tonight at London's O2 Academy Islington for eight dates with special guests Jared James Nichols and Stone Trigger, who will be supporting at all non-festival shows.

Sharp Objects 30/8/18

It was great to hear that one of John Verity's tracks was used in the HBO series 'Sharp Objects' - recently shown on Sky Atlantic in the UK. The series, featuring Amy Adams in the lead part was an instant success and the inclusion of JV's version of 'I'd Rather Go Blind' (today's Video Of The Day) was featured in Episode 2 and is taken from the 'It's A Mean Old Scene' album originally released back in 2012. The track is also to be included in a CBS Records album featuring music from 'Sharp Objects'. Following the release of JV's latest album 'Blue To My Soul' towards the end of last year, JV is always on the road, with his next stop this Sunday 2nd September at the Leeds Bradford Guitar Show on the ScottDixon stand (10am 'til 4pm) and then later at Barnoldswick Music & Arts Centre at  8pm.

Prime For Action 30/8/18

Album title of the year, anyone? Helion Prime (Track Of The Day) and their mascot - the mighty Saibot - return with their sophomore effort ‘Terror Of The Cybernetic Space Monster’ tomorrow. The album consists of nine brand new tracks - with the seventeen minute monster title song marking a stunning finale. The Sacramento (California) based Power Metal band’s new piece of work was mixed and mastered at LSD studio by Lasse Lammert (known for his work with bands like Alestorm and Gloryhammer). Helion Prime continues their theme of blending science fiction with science fact. This album will mark the first time the full band line up is joined together on a release. This also marks the debut of Sozos Michael on vocals with  Jason Ashcraft (rhythm guitar), Chad Anderson (lead guitar), Jeremy Steinhouse (bass guitar) and Alex Bosson (drums). The cover art was once again done by Marc Whisnant, who was already responsible for the artwork of the band’s self-titled debut album, which was released via Divebomb Records in early 2016 before AFM Records signed the band to a worldwide deal and re-issued 'Helion Prime' almost exactly a year after its initial release. The press hailed the album as a breath of fresh air in the Power Metal scene and called it one of the most innovative Power Metal records in a long time.

Gary Grainger Added To Durham/Cleethorpes Blues 30/8/18

Gary Grainger is the latest addition to next year's Durham and Cleethorpes Blues, Rhythm & Rock Festivals that take place on Saturday 15th June and Sunday 16th June respectively. With Mungo Jerry and the Connor Selby Band already on the bill, many people know Gary as the British Blues Award winning host of The Blues Show on BishopFM. But Gary’s interest in Blues goes back a long way, influenced by radio shows of Alexis Korner & Mike Raven. Gary’s current acoustic set includes a mixture of traditional & modern Blues tunes and also includes songs not so much from left field, rather from the West Coast – of the USA. Gary features songs by bands such as Little Feat, Grateful Dead, the Allman Brothers - & ZZ Top!

The track was written by Chris Ready, James Ready and Ross Griggs, and is taken from their last album 'WWIII'. Suck It And See 28/8/18

With the Supersucker odometer clicking on three decades this very year, the self-proclaimed ‘Greatest Rock ‘n’ Roll Band in the World’ is marking the occasion with a loud, resounding ‘Suck It’ due to be released on Friday 21st September on Steamhammer/SPV. Off the blocks, this 12th studio album from the band showcases a ruthless, get-it-done trio that sounds rebuilt from Motorhead parts, with singer-bassist Eddie Spaghetti transmuting Lemmy’s mojo, which he and core Suckers Marty Chandler (guitar) and drummer Chris Von Streicher (drums) recorded early this year at Bismeaux Studio in Austin, Texas, cutting all ten tracks in four days. Supersuckers are set to bring their 30th anniversary tour, playing songs from ‘Suck It’, some country faves, plus two of their Sub Pop records in their entirety, to the UK in November, including London's Oslo on Friday 16th.

One Swallow Makes A Summer 28/8/18

Russell Swallow is one of those lucky pre-Brexit kids who has spent the last two years living between London and Berlin. As a result his sound is a refreshing synthesis of the classic British singer-songwriter tradition with ambient Berlin soundscapes. He uses confessional lyrics and allegorical storytelling to create songs that range from hushed, prayer-like confessionals to soaring, Indie epics. Inspired by the likes of Bon Iver, Jack Savoretti, James Bay, Ray Lamontagne and Jeff Buckley, he taught himself to write songs by blending his passion for poetry and short stories with his newfound love of Indie-driven sounds. Swallow's stunning new EP 'My Lover, Her Lover And Me' blends Folk, Electronica and Soul, so not only check out today's Track Of The Day but also his gig at The Finsbury in London next Tuesday 4th September.

'Anytime You Need Me' CD Review 27/8/18

"The music itself is top quality from the start and I’m sure everyone may pick different tracks as their own personal favourites; the guitar solos usually choose mine for me, so ‘Found Out The Hard Way’ probably edges the vote, although the closing pair of ‘Let Me Be’ and ‘Holding On’ (the latter apparently influenced by Hendrix’s ‘Manic Depression’) run it mighty close."

Today read Gary Smith's complete take here on Ben Poole's new CD 'Anytime You Need Me' (Video Of The Day), due to be released on Friday 14th September.

The Unity Rise 27/8/18

The Unity, the superb Melodic Power Metal band formed by Gamma Ray members Michael Ehré (drums) and Henjo Richter (guitar), are set to release their storming second album, ‘Rise’, on Steamhammer/SPV on Friday 14th September. ‘Rise’ is an even more accomplished offering than the band’s self-titled debut album, which garnered glowing reviews throughout Europe on release in Spring 2017, and led to Unity being nominated ‘Newcomer Of The Year’ in Germany’s leading Metal Hammer and Rock Hard magazines. All fired up, the band subsequently embarked on tours with Edguy and Sinner and wowed the crowds with their dynamic performances on the main stages of renowned festivals such as Bang Your Head, Metalfest and the Winter Masters Of Rock.

Internationally Blue 27/8/18

Today's Black On Blues Podcast Track Of The Day is an international playlist featuring Matt Waltlake (England), Yury Apsy (Brazil), The Blues Bones (Belgium), Sugar Blue (USA), Riot And The Blues Devils (Canada), Hardchargers (Northern Ireland) and Dan Patlansky (pictured from South Africa).

Graham Bonnet/Doomsday Outlaw Review 26/8/18

"Another fine track from 'The Book' album, 'Into The Night', punched good weight! Then we got a Kurt James guitar solo where he was allowed to indulge in some clever fret noodling, including the Hendrix trick of playing the guitar behind one’s head and with one’s teeth, before 'Long Island Tea', the first and only song to be aired from the new album, ‘Meanwhile, Back In The Garage’. It is a good track, but the album has several better songs on it, some tasty keys from Waldo though. The epic and enthralling Michael Schenker Group track ‘Assault Attack’, from the 'Assault Attack' album, rattled on like a steam train!"

Vodun Ascends 26/8/18

'Ascend' is the second album by the glorious UK afro-inspired and insurrectionary Heavy  Power-Rock trio Vodun, due to be released on Friday 7th September by New Heavy Sounds. It's ten slabs of ground-flattening, groove-inflected, righteous, soulful and spiritual revolution Rock and mystic heaviness, driven by the afro-inspired dervish drums of Zel Kaute (interpreting the spirits of Ogoun), the roaring, fierce chromium guitars of Linz Hamilton (The Marassa) and fronted by the fire-breathing howl of frontwoman Chantal Brown (formally of Invasion, Chrome Hoof and Do Me Bad Things), delivering you the truth of generations with a drive and focus that can’t be matched. Check out today's Video Of The Day for their new single 'Spirits Past'.

She Makes War 26/8/18

Bristol based multi-instrumentalist producer and visual artist She Makes War has released her new single ‘Devastate Me’ (today's Track Of The Day) taken from her upcoming album 'Brace For Impact', the follow up to 2016’s acclaimed 'Direction Of Travel', which is due to be released on Friday 28th September. A blend of raucous guitar and infectious vocals, ‘Devastate Me’ is an unrestrained commentary on the impact of our collective online presence on our lives, from stalker exes to the hysterical screeching of Twitter. Simultaneously scintillating and scathing, the track is an infectious dose of Punk-infused Pop with a conscious message. She Makes War will be heading out on a headline tour this October including London's Sebright Arms on Friday 26th October.

Taking In The RiZE 25/8/18

"After Bastille I had an impossible dilemma: two bands I wanted to see were performing at the same time.  The Stereophonics started first, so I made my way to the Main Stage for a set of the band’s classic hits, delivered with enthusiastic aplomb.  After 25 years of touring and numerous chart successes, the Stereophonics need no introduction.  Kelly Jones’ voice adds horsepower and heft to newer material, but there is a distinct upturn in energy when the band reprise their earlier hits. Their set occasionally veers into arena-Rock routine but, overall, there is a serious vibe and little sense of self-indulgence.  However, after a rousing performance of ‘Maybe Tomorrow’, complete with almost continuous audience participation, I dragged myself away to ensure I caught the end of the Years and Years set on the Second Stage, thereby apparently missing an impressive medley of covers that included ‘Handbags & Gladbags’ and ‘Highway to Hell’."

Enuff Z'Nuff 25/8/18

Enuff Z’nuff are the living, breathing example of what a Rock ‘n Roll group should be. Now centered around bass player and vocalist Chip Z’nuff, Enuff Z’nuff are still alive and kicking with a legion of loyal fans, who can’t get enough of the band’s power Pop melded with Hard Rock stylings. In addition to Chip Z’nuff, the band features longtime guitarist Tory Stoffregen, ex-Ultravox singer/guitarist Tony Fennell, and Chicago native Daniel Benjamin Hill on drums. Enuff Z’nuff continues to tour and record relentlessly and their recently released album 'Diamond Boy' (see today's Track Of The Day) shows once again what a truly gifted hard/power Pop act they are. With no shortage of hooks and awesome songs, 'Diamond Boy' is another gem in Enuff Z’Nuff’s crown!

Underworld Photo Gallery 24/8/18

With our review to come, today check out our Graham Bonnet Band and Doomsday Outlaw (pictured) Photo Gallery here taken at Camden's Underworld on Wednesday night. Unfortunately we missed what we were told was a great set from West Midlands Hard Rockers Gin Annie (sorry guys) before Planet Rock DJ and MC for the gig, Paul Anthony, introduced Doomsday Outlaw, who effectively blew the bloody Underworld doors of  with their coupling huge riffs and killer grooves with soaring, soulful vocals - their Hard Rockin' set drawing on their recently released album, 'Hard Times’. No hard times on the night though, as The Graham Bonnet Band picked up the Rock baton as we jumped on Bonnet's Rock rollercoaster and took in the present, including his new album 'Back In The Garage' and of course, the past, as we stopped off to pay our respects to Rainbow and The Michael Schenker Group. All in all, one classic gig.

TGBR&BF Kicks Off Today! 24/8/18

One of the 130 acts taking part are Big Wolf Band (today's Video Of The Day) who are not only performing twice on Saturday but are also playing the Congleton Jazz & Blues Festival on Sunday!

Hard Times 23/8/18

We finally and literally got to see Doomsday Outlaw (Video Of The Day) at The Underworld in Camden last night - a ten-legged Hard Rock, Blues tinged juggernaut based in darkest Derbyshire. As expected, they didn't disappoint, coupling huge riffs and killer grooves with soaring, soulful vocals, their Hard Rockin' set drawing on their recently released album, 'Hard Times’. The bonus of course was that they were supporting The Graham Bonnet Band, who similarly had released last month their new album 'Back In The Garage' via Frontiers - the spine of their set reflecting the fact that Bonnet (pictured) has also been there and done it with Rainbow and The Michael Schenker Group. Watch out for a review plus a Photo Gallery shortly.

Yo - Oh It's Geno Time 23/8/18

Ultimate 60's Soul and Blues man, Geno Washington (Track Of The Day) is gracing The Eel Pie Club, The Patch, 67 London Road, Twickenham TW13SZ tonight with his Yo Yo Blues Band. A contemporary of Georgie Fame, The Small Faces and Jimi Hendrix (all of whom were his support acts back in the day), Geno is as electrifying today as ever, a force of nature and a genuine joy to behold. Geno's life long love of Blues and R&B has led to yet another chapter in his illustrious career with the formation of "Geno and the Yo Yo's” which features the long standing rhythm section of the Ram Jam Band (Geoff Hemsley on drums, Steve Bingham on bass and Stuart Dixon on guitar) which is a hard- hitting, fast-moving show of R&B/Blues/Soul classics that has audiences on their feet from start to finish and is receiving rave reviews wherever they play. Supporting Geno is guitarist/vocalist Peter Hammerton (formerly with 60's band The Others. Bang Bang Nambucca Tonight 23/8/18

Hotly tipped Alt-Rock trio Bang Bang Romeo are supporting Electric Six at London’s Nambucca tonight. They recently released the video to their breakthrough new single ‘Shame On You’ through their Five Seven Music branch - the next tantalising taste of their highly anticipated debut album, coming October 2018. The release comes after the band’s triumphant performance at the Isle Of Wight festival where they opened the main stage to the event’s biggest ever audience for an opening act. This Summer they have already performed at both the Tramlines and Kendal Calling festivals and are also playing the Victorious Festival's Second Stage this Sunday 26th August.

Doomsday Tonight 22/8/18

"The good news was that we bumped into our mate Gary Levermore from Frontiers in the Good Mixer - the bad news being that we could not count their ten legs as it was packed out and we had to settle to listening to their set from afar! To be fair, coupling huge riffs and killer grooves with soaring, soulful vocals, Doomsday Outlaw duly delivered their distinctive sound to the Hard Rock faithful present - either side of the bar - drawing on 'Hard Times’, their new album released last month - including 'Fallback' which is also on that sampler." That was part of our Camden Rocks review back in June and all roads lead back to Camden tonight and The Underworld where Doomsday Outlaw are supporting The Graham Bonnet Band

Right 7ouch 22/8/18

From Athens to London, emerging Rock outfit 7he 7ouch are set to release their debut EP 'Seventyseven' on Monday 29th October. Their single ‘Solution’ is today's Video Of The Day and is the first track taken from the EP. Racing with energy and unmissable hooks, the track holds a deeper message, inspired by the political turmoil affecting us across the globe and the extreme ideologies people have on how to deal with the issues. After leaving their home in the midst of the financial crisis to pursue their dreams in London, 7he 7ouch underwent months of hardship as they found their feet in the city, which has ultimately played a major role in defining their hard hitting, alternative Rock sound. The band, formed of Constantine (vocals), Stelios (guitar), John (lead guitar), Anthony (bass) and Dave (drums), recorded 'Seventyseven' between studios in Athens and London which consists of six explosive tracks, written and performed from their hearts.

There's also features on bands from all the stages, so expect some great Rock, some stonking Blues and Outlaw Country music from new and established bands.

Mike Vernon & The Mighty Combo CD Review 21/8/18

"The tempo and mood step up and swing out with the energising and optimistic next track ‘I Can Fix It’ which, as the title suggests, rejoices how anything is possible if you have the right attitude. A favourite and timeless song familiar to most is the classic (‘I Don’t Know Why I Love You) But I Do’, originally produced by Clarence ‘Frogman’ Henry in 1961, which uses a great guitar and saxophone duet to respectfully take you back in time and raise your mood."

Today read Di Foxy's complete take on Mike Vernon & The Mighty Combo's new CD 'Beyond The Blue Horizon' here due to be released on Friday 7th September.

"Ably supported by the rest of the band, notably guitarist Brion James, dreadlocks flailing as he nails every solo, Dan captivated the audience with a succession of Network classics, including ‘Baby Now I’ and the slightly slower ‘Rainbow Child’.  These were followed by ‘Champion’, the only song in this evening’s set from the Network’s latest album ‘Fight Another Day’, which is built around a slow, steady riff and Melvin Brannon’s rattling bass. It was then back to the classics, the set finishing with ‘Ritual’ and ‘Get to You’, a couple of full-on, dynamic Funk-Metal monsters." That was part of our take when Dan Reed Network supported Extreme back in December and DRN are not only due to release their new album 'Origins' (check out today's Video Of The Day), but they are also touring the UK in November supported by Mason Hill and Hollowstar including a London album launch show on the very same date it's released: Friday 23rd November.

The dynamic combination of brutal shouts and growls with the extraordinary clean voice of lead vocalist Ro Seven lends the band unmistakable character - supported by guitarists Alex and Billy, drummer Niko and bassist Dani - convince through energetic and thrilling live shows.  Their debut album 'Broken But Not Torn' was released in 2017 and one of the tracks from the album - 'Loved A Liar' - is today's Video Of The Day.

After more than 40 years in the business and with a renowned breakthrough in the early 80’s with Accept behind him, as well as several million records sold worldwide, Germany's Udo Dirkschneider is one of the biggest Rock legends in the business. After honouring classic Accept songs live with his other project Dirkschneider in the last couple of years, it’s time to release a new U.D.O. studio album 'Steelfactory' at the end of this month via AFM Records/Soulfood Music, of which one of the tracks 'Rising High' is today's Track Of The Day. The current (core) band line up - a bit like a good family business - consists of Udo, Udo’s son Sven Dirkschneider (drums), bass player Fitty Wienhold and guitarist Andrey Smirnov.

The six-piece band are fronted by the multi-talented, 22-year-old Marcus King, whose expressive guitar playing, soulful singing and emotive song-writing make it clear that this gifted young musician is a true talent to be reckoned with; a genuine force of nature. The UK dates come in the wake of a huge US run, which includes a stint on the Tedeschi Trucks Band's Wheels of Soul Tour, plus headline shows in New York, Boston, Nashville, San Francisco and Los Angeles. The band’s third studio album is due for release via Snakefarm Records in the UK later this year.

We Rise As Demons 15/8/18

Hanzel Und Gretyl has been an ever evolving band and the New York based industrial Metal duo mark their 25th anniversary with a brand new studio album released last month. ’Satanik Germanik’ is their darkest, heaviest sounding record to date - more evil, menacing yet fun than ever. It continues their progression towards a harder, more Metal based sound that marked their previous release, 2014’s ‘Black Forest Metal’ - a new era, employing black Metal & satanic themes crossed with motifs from the Brothers Grimm fairy tale. Made up of Kaizer Von Loopy/KyzrWölf - guitars, programming, vocals and Vas Kallas - vocals, bass - check out today's 'We Rise As Demons' Track Of The Day - still very much 100% Hanzel Und Gretyl!

Zero UK 229 Review 14/8/18

"The song structures are simple, but effective and catchy, easy to swagger along to in that Britpop way. ‘Petrol Fumes’ and ‘What’ve We Done’ are catchy but my favourite was ‘You Fly Too High’ with a solid riff and tight drumming from Rick sat at the back."

Today read Chris Bourlet's complete take on last Friday's Zero UK gig at London's 229 The Venue in Great Portland Street here.

Re-Manes Of The Day 14/8/18

Experimental Metal band Manes of Norway have unveiled the first visual companion to their new record 'Slow Motion Death Sequence', due to be  released on Friday 24th August via Debemur Morti Productions. Directed by Guilherme Henriques, whose past visual collaborations with artists such as Belphegor, Wormed, and Hideous Divinity have turned many a head, 'Endetidstegn' (today's Video Of The Day) presents a bleak window into a personal form of apocalypse, the inevitable demise handed down by the vengeful Gods of modern man, vice, alcohol, drugs. Containing elements of psychedelic electronica and trip hop converge over crunching guitars and haunting vocal harmonies, Manes cinematic approach to music creation evokes curiosity and a desire to discover what lays beneath.

Roger Chapman Family & Friends 12/8/18

"Chapman and band delivered a strong and tight set of classic Family, Streetwalkers and Chapman solo material, including the groove laden and menacing ‘Prisoner’ from the 1981 album ‘Hyenas Only Laugh for Fun’. Three classic Chapman solo songs from the brilliant 1979 ‘Chappo’ album, ‘Who Pulled The Night Down’, ‘Moth To A Flame’ and ‘Midnite Child’ were played proficiently and with tremendous gusto! Whitehorn set the groove and the band followed, with classy embellishments from Hirsh and Payn. A couple of newer tracks, ‘Habits Of A Lifetime’ and ‘Kiss My Soul’, were performed from the well-received 1996 album ‘Kiss My Soul’. ‘Run For Cover’ from the classic 1976 Streetwalkers, ‘Red Card’ album rocked and rolled along nicely."

Today read Steven C. Gilbert's complete take on Roger Chapman's recent 'Family & Friends' gig at London's Under The Bridge here.

Iron Maiden Photo Gallery 12/8/18

Last night Iron Maiden completed the final leg of their 'Legacy Of The Beast' UK tour at London's O2 Arena. Since the opening night in Tallinn, Estonia, at the end of May, the band had already played to around 750,000 fans in sold-out stadium, arena and festival shows across Europe including selling out the prestigious Atletico Madrid football stadium in Spain. Launching the show with crowd favourite, 'Aces High', with a Spitfire propelling above the stage, this was not the only show-stopping effect in this theatrical performance with the band then proceeding to race through a spectacular two hours of music, pyrotechnics, special effects and ever-evolving stage sets, including new incarnations of mascot Eddie, and showcasing many of the most beloved songs in their revered career alongside rarely-played classics from their extensive back catalogue. Anyway, check out our Photo Gallery here from Friday night's penultimate O2 Arena performance in London.

Nice Touch 12/8/18

Bad Touch, who we saw at last Thursday's Great British Beer Festival along with Danny Bryant (today's Video Of The Day), released their new single 'Skyman' the following morning, which is taken from their new album 'Shake A Leg' which is due out on Friday 5th October and is also today's Track Of The Day. 'Skyman' is Bad Touch’s homage to Duane Allman of the Allman Brothers whose nickname was “Skydog”. ‘Shake A Leg’ will be supported by a nationwide 18-date UK headline tour starting at Newcastle University Union on Wednesday 17th October which also takes in London's ULU Live on Saturday 10th November.

Chocks Away 11/8/18

We were promised their biggest ever production plus their most eclectic set list - and boy did Iron Maiden deliver on the penultimate night of their sold out 'Legacy Of The Beast' UK Tour at London's O2 Arena last night. With their final gig tonight, also at the O2 Arena, please check out today's Video Of The Day.

The Great British Music Festival 11/8/18

Was it really over 42 years ago that we made our way to London's Olympia for The Great British Music Festival in January 1976 to see the likes of Charlie, Be Bop Deluxe, Pretty Things, Slim Chance, Nazareth and Bad Company? Fast forward  42 years and substitute the word 'Beer' for 'Music' and we were back - of course not only to sample the beer but also the musical fare on a Planet Rock stage that was significantly smaller than the one we saw Nazareth give Bad Company a good run for their money. To be fair, on Thursday, Fireroad, Mollie Marriott, Danny Bryant (pictured), The Dust CodaBad Touch and Broken Witt Rebels did the ghosts of '76 proud with some quality music. Anyway, check out our Photo Gallery here from an awesome day.

Pete Spiby Debut Solo Album 11/8/18

In April 2017 Black Spiders gave their fans one final chance to raise their middle fingers aloft and yell "fuck you" at their five, grizzled faces before hanging up their riding capes for good. In the months leading up to their final shows, frontman Pete Spiby was undergoing rehabilitation for an operation on his left hand, which learned physicians say is an important part of the human anatomy when you’re doling out sweet riffs left, right and centre. 'Failed Magician' is the title of Spiby’s new solo release due out on Friday 31st August through Be Lucky Records. It’s a sprawling double album of heavy Blues, dense Alt Rock that shows that Spiby still has plenty of fire in his belly! Indeed, there comes a time in a man’s life when the Blues become mandatory listening and this in turn has informed his new songs. For his next trick, he assembled a crack team of ne’er do wells to help bring his ideas to life in the studio with Matt Ellis at the production console. Anyway, check out today's Track Of The Day ‘Bible Studies’ from the aforementioned album .

Legacy Of The Beast 10/8/18

"Unsurprisingly the set last night was the same as we saw at Download 2016 -  comprising predominantly of the new - opening with both 'If Eternity Should Fail' and 'Speed Of Light' from the excellent 'The Book Of Souls' - and the old - 'Children Of The Damned', 'The Trooper' and 'Iron Maiden' (with Eddie thrown in for good measure). 'The Number Of The Beast' and 'Wasted Years' concluded the evening before 'Always Look On The Bright Side Of Life' sent the crowd home happy." That was part of our take on Iron Maiden's O2 Arena gig in May last year (pictured), and the troopers return to London tonight and tomorrow to complete their UK leg of their much vaunted 'Legacy Of The Beast Tour' with a Spitfire buzzing the stage during the opening number 'Aces High'. Special guests are Killswitch Engage.

WRC Out In Force Tonight 10/8/18

Meanwhile, The Magpie Salute (Video Of The Day) are playing two, yes two acoustic quartet sets as part of their mini-promo tour - the first at Rough Trade East in Shoreditch at 6.30pm and then later at the Oslo in Hackney. And finally, fresh from a triumphant appearance at the Newport Folk Festival, Fantastic Negrito (pictured) will perform at Nell's Jazz & Blues in West Kensington, ahead of his slot at the Boomtown Festival this weekend.

It's Going To Be Massive - Again! 9/8/18

"However, despite the fact that the rain had relented since yesterday, but thanks to copious cans of lager being opened up on stage during their set, with Ben chucking cans at his brother and Brad pouring a full can over his head whilst playing guitar (seriously) - cue Marr's wardrobe malfunction as he slipped and split his crotch - you couldn't make it up! Entertainment wise, these guys are the full package and long may it continue!" Was it really over a year ago since we caught Aussie Rockers Massive headlining The Rising Stage at Ramblin' Man Fair (pictured)? Well the good news is that the guys have just released their new single 'Roses' (today's Video Of The Day) from their upcoming new album 'Rebuild Destroy' plus they have a UK tour in October including London's New Cross Inn on Sunday 7th.

Hinkler's Moving On 8/8/18

The Mission’s Simon Hinkler is due to release his 'Moving On' EP on Friday 7th September on Correctitude Records. Simon was originally with The Mission for five years, through the first four albums, the chart hits, the extensive world tours, and the general insanity. He left in 1990 and went on to write solo pieces and soundtrack music, before releasing his second album under the name of "The Wing Commander" in 1992. The following three years were spent with a three-piece electronic band Mindfeel, before disappearing to the desert in New Mexico. It wasn't until 2005 that Simon re-appeared with his solo album 'Lose The Faith'.  Since then he has returned to live in the UK after thirteen years in the US and reunited with The Mission for their 25th anniversary followed by a celebrated run of world tours, two new albums, a 30th anniversary, and most recently guesting on Alice Cooper’s five UK arena shows. Now, with the band taking a break, here is a varied collection of Simon’s songs spanning those years living in the back of beyond.

At The Edge Of Time 8/8/18

Crystal Viper is a female fronted Heavy Metal act from Poland, founded in 2003 by the singer, guitarist and composer, Marta Gabriel. Between 2007 and 2013 they released five studio albums, seven singles and compilations, and toured in more than fifteen countries, establishing their position as one of the most hard working and most determined bands of their generation. The band returned in 2017 with 'Queen Of The Witches' - probably their strongest and best release, but at the end of June this year Marta and her crew proved that they are stronger than ever as they struck back with a special, limited edition EP entitled 'At The Edge Of Time' of which the title track is today's Track Of The Day.

Prepare For Landing 7/8/18

Sari Schorr's highly anticipated new album 'Never Say Never' has a special album release show at London's The Borderline on Friday 14th September! Over the last 18 months, Sari has travelled from a loft apartment in New York, to a finca in Spain, lived over a bakery in Bath, on to a factory in Germany, stayed for a while at a sheep farm in Wales, stopped off at a holiday chalet in Skegness, then to a gîte in France and finally to a barn in Norfolk. In each place she has set down her suitcase, full of half-written songs, met up with amazing musicians, writers and producers and finished her second album. It has been a long, hard journey, full of trials and tribulations, full of tears, full of joy, full of laughter, full of friendship, but most of all, totally worthwhile. We're sure you'll agree!

Belfast Boy 7/8/18

"It was also good to hear from WRC member Rob "Did you catch Pat McManus in the Blues tent? What a gem! To my shame I have never heard this man play before yesterday. As the man said "I was born between Rory Gallagher and Gary Moore... so I was ****ed!" Wasted at the early performance, could have closed the main stage in my opinion. Great festival and the sun smiled!" We couldn't agree more Rob!" Taken from our July 2016 News Archive following Ramblin' Man Fair, we're once again indebted to another WRC member Marlene Rivet for today's Video Of The Day, taken at Pat's Binningen, Switzerland gig in March - his powerful three piece Blues/Rock Trio, of course headed up by the former “Mama’s Boys’ and ‘Celtus’ guitarist/violinist virtuoso and true gent AKA ‘The Professor’.

The New Roses’ song ‘Without A Trace’ was featured on the soundtrack of the US cult series Sons Of Anarchy and was chosen as the official song for the German DVD trailer campaign. The band is often compared to Guns ’N Roses, AC/DC, Kid Rock, Aerosmith, Metallica or The Black Crowes but with their own unique Rock and Roll style. This year the band already toured Germany and France, were special guests on The Dead Daisies European tour and will play more than 30 festivals this summer including Sweden Rock, Open Road Fest, Matapaloz, Rock Of Ages and Rock Hard Festival.

Mighty classic Melodic Hard Rockers Mad Max, who were formed in Munster in Germany 35 years ago, have announced the release of their magnificently muscular new studio album, ‘35’, on Steamhammer/SPV this Friday 10th August. ‘35’ is a stupendous, classic yet totally contemporary Melodic Metal album, packed with immediately hummable, hard rocking anthems, all bursting with huge hooks and massive, groove-laden powerful guitar riffs. An amazing video for stand out single ‘Beat Of The Heart’, is today's Video Of The Day, thanks to Hubert Teichmann, (the owner of the private “Staudenbahn” railway line near Augsburg), who has been a staunch patron of the arts for a number of years, who supplied the financial means that enabled Mad Max to film a clip in Berlin with a number of actors, among them leading man Vinzenz Kiefer (The Baader Meinhof Complex, the action/crime drama series Alarm für Cobra 11, Jason Bourne) and director/screenwriter Oliver Bethke.

The Skiffle Players comprised by Cass McCombs, Neal Casal, Farmer Dave Scher, Dan Horne and Aaron Sperske recently released their 'Piffle Sayers' EP on West Coast independent record label, Spiritual Pajamas. Supergroup, side project, high-school-garage-band-of-brothers-from-other-mothers (whatever it's called), The Skiffle Players formed to play a one off show in Big Sur and had so much fun, they're still at it. The seven-track collection is drawn from the same sessions that produced the band's 2016 debut album, 'Skifflin', an instant classic upon its release that quickly became a record store rare find. The first single 'Jonny Todd', a jaunty rendition of the classic English folk song, is today's Track Of The Day. The 'Piffle Sayers'  EP also foreshadows a new full-length studio album that the band is putting finishing touches on for an Autumn release.

Welcome Back My Friends .... 3/8/18

Federal Charm CD Review 2/8/18

"With a new energy, the revitalized quartet's opening track 'Swing Sinner' sets the tone for this eleven song strong collection. As with each track Guyer delivers his vocals with (for the most part) controlled aggression, and it soon becomes obvious this is a band with a lot to say, and one that is not afraid to say it. In this instance, the questionable execution of a murderer, hence the swinging sinner. The first single from the album is 'Choke', which is currently benefiting from a lot of airplay on Planet Rock radio. A catchy hook line - “What makes you think you are the king of the world” - it tells of the dangers of privilege and self importance, along with its bass heavy riff comes a vocal style reminiscent of early Rival Sons albums, which makes this a perfect introduction to FC’s third CD."

RIP Ken 2/8/18

"Anyway today we're delighted to introduce Lily Tonico as our 'Track Of The Day' thanks to our old mate Ken Canty who has been playing guitar on some of Lily's stuff.  Lily's spent the last two years co-writing, collaborating and recording demos and now feels the time is right for others to experience what she has spent so much time nurturing. Therefore just chill out on this Sunday, listen and enjoy." Thanks to WRC member Ken, we were lucky enough to introduce you to Lily Tonico way back in February 2015. Very sadly this week we learnt that guitarist and all-round nice guy Ken had died. Therefore, today we dedicate Lily's Track Of The Day in Ken's memory. RIP mate.
