Desolate July In January 31/1/20
Sons Of Apollo third single, 'Desolate July', from their second studio album, appropriately titled, 'MMXX' (pronounced: 20/20) released earlier this month via InsideOutMusic, is today's Video Of The Day, a tribute to musician David Z who tragically passed away in 2017. Former Dream Theater members Mike Portnoy and Derek Sherinian, Ron "Bumblefoot" Thal (ex-Guns N Roses), Billy Sheehan (The Winery Dogs, Mr. Big, David Lee Roth) and Jeff Scott Soto (ex-Journey, ex-Yngwie Malmsteen's Rising Force), says a lot about the huge talent involved, combined with a cohesive and recognizable individual stance on their 2017 #1 debut album, 'Psychotic Symphony'. Consequently the bands headlining MMXX World Tour will take them around the world, including European tour dates such as London's Islington Asembly Hall on Thursday 19th March, as well as South American dates in April.

Anchor Lane CD Review/Launch 30/1/20
"Apparently there is no truth in the rumour that the powers that be wanted Brexit to coincide with the release of Anchor Lane's debut album 'Casino', although a bit like Brexit, their eagerly awaited release on Friday 31st January on R7 Records has certainly been well worth waiting for! 'Casino' sweats all the passion of William Wallace, with their proverbial balls of Rock under their kilts. Time will tell, as to what other cards they have hidden up their sporrans, but with 'Casino', there is no doubt that the gamble has paid off."
Today read AJ's complete take here on Anchor Lane's debut album 'Casino', due out tomorrow, and to coincide with its release, Anchor Lane are holding their album launch party tonight at London's The Black Heart in Camden.
100 Club Photo Gallery 30/1/20
With more photos in the pipeline, check out our initial Photo Gallery here from an awesome night of Tuesday Blues at London's 100 Club during Independent Venue Week. The outstanding Aynsley Lister returned once again for his annual gig at Oxord Street's iconic venue, with his hard hitting rhythms and guitar work including fan favourites 'Home' and 'Hyde 2612' plus classics 'Tore Down' and his traditional closer 'Purple Rain', proving once again that Lister is still one of very few artists playing Blues-infused Rock with a modern edge – heartfelt, soul searching and full of fine song-writing played with both passion and vitality. The night was complete with excellent support from both Mojo Preachers, who released their acclaimed 'Man Made Monster' CD last year, plus impressive 100 Club debutants The Kendall Connection (today's Video Of The Day).
Video Nasties Dominion 30/1/20
Recently signed to APF Records – on Halloween last year no less - Video Nasties release their debut album 'Dominion’ on Friday 13th March, basically a record of Heavy Metal, horror themed John Carpenter worship, and their latest single, ‘Drone Eagle’, is today's Track Of The Day. The quintet formed in 2017, comprised of some of Liverpool's finest heavy exports in The Bendal Interlude, SSS, Magpyes and Iron Witch, mixing Death Metal with Punky and Thrashy undertones, creating something morbidly macabre and devilishly debauched. Video Nasties are content to lurk no more; get ready for their slasher soundtrack to rip your eardrums to pieces, plus live dates at Bolton's Alma Inn (free entry) tomorrow night and their album launch show at Liverpool's Sound Food and Drink on Saturday 14th March.
Shake The World 29/1/20
Vocalist Robin McAuley (McAuley Schenker Group), guitarist Reb Beach (Winger, Whitesnake), bassist Jeff Pilson (Foreigner, The End Machine, ex-Dokken) and drummer Matt Starr (Ace Frehley, Mr. Big) have joined forces in Black Swan and created ‘Shake The World’, out on Friday 14th February, the title track of which is today's Video Of The Day. It's not only an aptly titled debut album of powerful Hard Rock that is not simply the sum of its parts, but it's also a powerful Rock ‘n Roll machine. Sparked by a conversation between Jeff Pilson and Frontiers, who were keen to hear a project that could not only showcase McAuley's vocal prowess but also have a mighty musical backbone behind him, the initial seed was planted and Pilson ran with it from there, recording the album in his LA studio. The final result sounds totally fresh and extremely heavy, albeit still intensely melodic. Consequently, ‘Shake the World’ is a killer slice of Melodic Hard Rock and Heavy Metal from these seasoned musicians and is essential listening!

Was it really a year ago that we last saw Aynsley Lister performing at London's 100 Club (pictured)? Fast forward a year, and tonight, as Independent Venue Week continues, he returns to the same iconic venue, with his hard hitting rhythms and guitar work reminiscent of a young Eric Clapton, supported by Mojo Preachers and The Kendall Connection. Indeed Lister is still one of very few artists playing Blues-infused Rock with a modern edge – heartfelt, soul searching and full of fine song-writing played with both passion and vitality.

Savoy Brown/Matt Pearce Beaverwood Review 24/1/20
"The short set sees Matt play some serious Gary Moore like Blues on his trusty Gibson with keys bass and drums providing the rhythm and melody. And his Scottish lilt is evident in his strong vocals. Interlaced with judicious wah, the screaming Blues guitar is excellent. For 'Ordinary Blues' he swaps the Gold Top for an Ibanez hollowbody which gives a twangier lilt to his Cry Baby’s sobbing. Title track of the new album 'Gotta Get Home' is a slide and fingerpicking sensation that has Southern states Blues written all over it whilst new track 'Got A Thing Going On' allows Matt to show his rockier side back on the Gibson again."
Today read the whole of Mother's take on Matt Pearce & The Mutiny and Savoy Brown at Chislehurst's The Beaverwood on Tuesday 14th January here, plus also check out our Photo Gallery here plus our Savoy Brown Video Of The Day filmed at The Great British Rock And Blues Festival, Butlins, Skegness, Lincolnshire, three days later.

Francis Dunnery Gigs Review 21/1/20
"The theme for this year’s show is the second studio album ‘Once Around the World’, originally cut back in 1988, and arguably the best of the three from Frank’s period with the original line-up. All the songs are covered within the two hour plus set along with a couple of ‘B’ sides from singles, and the ever popular ‘Underneath Your Pillow’, ’Calling All the Heroes’ and the closing number ‘Still Too Young To Remember’."
Today read the whole of Geoff C's recent take on two of Francis Dunnery's It Bites gigs at Wolverhampton's Slade Rooms and Manchester Club Academy here, plus check out today's Video Of The Day.

Oli Plays Ruislip Tonight 19/1/20
"So the rest of the day is a whirl of sounds and styles that satisfies all four corners of my music needs. There are so many to mention that I can only mention the highlights. Deep breath, here goes... Raveneye open the Main stage with some awesome chugging Rock. Whilst only a three piece band, they make some big sounds with Oli Brown on lead and vocals, bassist Aaron Spiers and drummer Adam Breeze. Highlight was their track 'You're A Lie' which sees the chugging Rock sound carried solely by Spiers and Breeze. Big dirty sound." That was our take on Raveneye at Maidstone's Ramblin' Man Fair last July (pictured), and Oli is currently taking a break from Raveneye to go back to his Blues roots with The Oli Brown Band, the latest band to appear tonight at the monthly series of Sunday Blues nights at the Tropic in Ruislip, West London. Shades Of Gray 17/1/20
"Following on, and now playing to a full house are Myke Gray. For those unfamiliar, the namesake guitarist was an integral part of nineties rockers Skin. His current incarnation is a vehicle for the Joe Satriani lookalike to play like a Joe Satriani soundalike. For this festival however, the instrumentalist has had the inspired idea of recruiting Kim Jennett, from Voodoo Blood, for vocals. What a powerful little powerhouse she is." That was part of our take on HRH 2018 and not only do Myke Gray and Kim Jennett embark on a UK tour next month, including London's The Underworld on Sunday 23rd February, but the song-writer and guitarist from Jagged Edge, Skin, Red White & Blues has recently unveiled his new project Shades of Gray, including today's Video Of The Day 'I Get Up'.

Matt Brown Finish 15/1/20
With a review and a Photo Gallery to come, our first gig of the decade last night, was Savoy Brown (pictured) at Chislehurst's Beaverwood Club in Kent, with special guests Matt Pearce & The Mutiny. Legendary… a Blues Rock institution… true innovators - these are just a few of the ways Savoy Brown, with founder guitarist Kim Simmonds at the helm, has been described over the past fifty years by music critics and fans alike. Meanwhile, Matt Pearce & The Mutiny released their hugely successful debut album 'Gotta Get Home' last May through Mutinear Records, and not only was it #1 in the Amazon Best Selling Blues Albums and Hot New Releases charts, it also went on to glean an impressive array of glowing reviews from the Blues and Rock press.

Neil Peart - A Tribute 14/1/20
"We’ve lost some heroes over the past few years, but this one is major for me. Rush have been myband since I first took a punt on the glorious triple gatefold sleeve of ‘All the World’s a Stage’ which began a lifelong dedication (if not obsession). I’m not exclusive; there are many other bands and artists I love, but if I was confined to just one band for the rest of my days, it would be Rush. And that has been the case for the last 40 years."
Read the whole of Rush fan Mark C's heartfelt tribute to Neil Peart here, the Canadian bands's virtuoso drummer, who was revered by fans and fellow musicians as one of the greatest drummers of all time, who died last Tuesday aged 67.
Savoy Mutiny At Chislehurst Tonight 14/1/20
"The absence of the band’s classics from the Under The Bridge setlist suggests that the band is confident about its new material and, with Simmonds displaying an energy in his playing which belies his advancing years, there looks to be plenty of gas left in the Savoy Brown tank. Anyone who enjoys Blues/Rock guitar played in the classic trio format will find plenty to enjoy in ‘City Lights’." That was part of our take last year on Savoy Brown's latest CD 'City Lights' (Video Of The Day) and for our first gig of the decade, we're going along to see them at Chislehurst's Beaverwood Club tonight, with special guests Matt Pearce & The Mutiny (pictured).

A Step In The Morning Glow 13/1/20
Today's Video Of The Day is the iconic and influential Japanese Post-Hardcore band Envy, their first single ‘A Step in the Morning Glow’, from their new album ’The Fallen Crimson’, which is due to be released on Friday 7th February through Pelagic Records. It's their first new studio album in five years – a record that almost never happened - given the band recently suffered seemingly insurmountable personal and creative struggles that challenged the very existence of the band, like nothing they had experienced in nearly three decades together. After reuniting with briefly estranged singer Tetsuya Fukagawa – and shaking up their lineup for the first time in 25 years – Envy has returned, refreshed with their most dynamic and progressive work to date.
Since I Met You Baby 13/1/20
Ten years ago Gary Moore played a special one-off club show at London’s Islington Academy, and Provogue, a division of the Mascot Label Group, will be releasing this never before released recording, 'Live From London', on Friday 31st January, which includes today's Track Of The Day 'Since I Met You Baby'. The live album was recorded on 2nd December 2009 – just fourteen months before his tragic death at the age of 58. The career of the fabled guitarist was a jagged timeline, full of twists, turns and wild tangents. And yet, through it all, the Irishman never lost faith in the power of live music.
Neil Peart 12/1/20
Neil Peart, the virtuoso drummer of iconic Canadian band Rush, who was revered by fans and fellow musicians as one of the greatest drummers of all time, has died at the age of 67. The influential musician and lyricist died on Tuesday in Santa Monica, California, after having been diagnosed with brain cancer. Consequently, our Rush Video Of The Day is dedicated in Neil's memory.
Jim Kahr Blues Review 12/1/20
A Blues Review featuring Jim Kahr, takes place on Thursday 20th February from 7.30pm at the original Ealing Club - the Birthplace of British Rhythm and Blues - at the Red Rooms, 42A The Broadway, London W5 2NP. The Chicago guitar legend has worked with some of the biggest names in Blues, including John Lee Hooker, Freddie King, Junior Wells, Bobby Blue Bland and Buddy Guy. Indeed, the venue is sacred ground - the original premises where Alexis Korner and Cyril Davies started out in 1962! Hosted by The Paul Cook Blues Band, there will also be sets from special guests Robert Hokum, Emma Wilson and Half Moon Panic.
Forever Whatever 12/1/20

Following the album’s release, the band will embark on a ten-date headline tour starting with a sold out show in Bristol on Friday 7th February, including dates in Manchester, Glasgow, Brighton and London on Saturday 8th February at the Old Blue Last. Musically, they cite their influences as My Bloody Valentine, The National, Sonic Youth and Radiohead, while lyrically they take inspiration from the likes of Nick Cave, Leonard Cohen and Nick Drake.

School Of Hard Knocks 11/1/20
Legendary Saxon frontman Biff Byford launches his first ever solo album, 'School Of Hard Knocks' (see today's Track Of The Day), on Friday 21st February, through Silver Lining Music. With his roots firmly in The North of England, Biff has earned the right to be considered The Heavy Metal Bard Of The North and his debut album reflects the man and his personality, his loves and his musical versatility. To coincide with his album launch, Byford embarks on his first ever solo tour in April including London's Islington Assembly Hall on Tuesday 28th, with European dates to be announced later. The show, in the form of An evening with..., will be split into two halves. After the break Biff and his band will play some new songs, covers and, maybe, a Saxon song or two!
Kenny Wayne Shepherd Wins Best Blues Rock 10/1/20
"Their set squeezed in a lot of numbers but not as many as the closing set on the Outlaw stage. Kenny Wayne Shepherd's set lasted just over two hours from opening track 'Woman Like You', a cover of Buffalo Springfields' 'Mr. Soul' through a seriously rocking setlist that included his version of 'Voodoo Child'. Nice." That was our take on the Kenny Wayne Shepherd Band's set at Maidstone's Ramblin' Man Fair back in July (pictured) and KWSB (Video Of The Day) has duly won our 'Best Blues Rock' performance in our 2019 WRC Awards. Following their hugely successful UK Summer tour and the release of their latest album ‘The Traveler’, KWSB will be coming back to the UK for five shows this October, calling through Bexhill-On-Sea, Salisbury, Edinburgh, Gateshead and Warrington.
A Tale Of Two Talents 10/1/20
Five years ago, Danny Vaughn (lead vocalist of Tyketto) and Dan Reed (frontman of Funk rockers Dan Reed Network) decided to combine their talents in a joint project: a live acoustic touring act called Snake Oil & Harmony. The project led to two acclaimed tours, where they shared their songs and the stories behind them with audiences throughout Europe, building a rep for their singing, musicianship and spellbinding rapport with their audiences. The tours sparked the pair into further creative partnership, kindling their considerable talents to create new, original songs, which they added to their repertoire on tour. Now, Snake Oil & Harmony are releasing their debut album, ‘Hurricane Riders’, which will be released on Friday 28th February. To coincide with its release, both artists will be taking the brand-new album out on the road, kicking off with London's Half Moon in Putney on Wednesday 12th March, along with their respective solo material, plus classic Dan Reed Network and Tyketto songs on the bill, showcasing the unique chemistry and kinship of two master singers, songwriters and storytellers, not to mention infectious melodies and thought-provoking lyrics.

Following their success at Wrinklystock 8 (pictured), 2019 WRC 'Best Tribute' Award nominees Jamie & The Jets return to Kent tonight with their Elton John show to play Real Music Live at Chislehurst's The Beaverwood Club. Meanwhile, also tonight, the UK’s hottest new Rock ‘n’ Blues band, Bad Day Blues Band, are making their debut at the first gig of the decade at The Eel Pie Club, The Patch, 67 London Road, Twickenham TW1 3SZ. Featuring a unique mix of classic Blues harp, entwined bass and lead vocals, dirty guitar and driving rhythm, Bad Day Blues Band are hailed by the critics as one of the must see musical acts of modern times. Doors open at 8.15pm with music from 9-11pm. WRC members are reminded that they can use their cards to get discounted admission.
Lightning Strikes Twice 9/1/20
DeCarlo's debut album 'Lightning Strikes Twice' (Track Of The Day), out on Friday 24th January, is a fine slice of Melodic Rock, deeply rooted in the sound of genre masters such as Boston, Foreigner, Survivor and REO Speedwagon. Originating from Charlotte, North Carolina, DeCarlo are fronted by Tommy DeCarlo (best known for having performed with Boston since 2007), who co-founded the band with his son, guitarist Tommy DeCarlo Jr. No band is complete without a great supporting cast, which in the case of DeCarlo is provided by drummer Dan Hitz, bassist David Netta and Payton Velligan, who is a multi-talented keyboard player, guitarist and vocalist. Classic AOR/Melodic Rock fans simply can’t afford to miss this debut album.
Malone Sibun CD Review 8/1/20
"Likewise the Malone penned ‘Taste Of Your Love’, which adds Massimiliano Guidi on acoustic guitar as Innes switches briefly to mandolin, pales a little in comparison with the trio of Sibun compositions which follow it. The first of those three songs, ‘Jodie’, is in a Country Rock vein, although the Rolling Stones are the stated vibe, while the slow minor Blues ‘I’m So Tired Of Living’ features some trademark Sibun guitarwork and is, for me, the best song on the album. ‘Lovelight’, which Innes wrote several years ago in Mostar, Bosnia, has a more radio friendly hook, perhaps a little like some of Whitesnake’s later work."
Today read our very first CD review of the decade here, Gary Smith's take on Malone Sibun's debut album 'Come Together' that is due to be released at the end of this month, plus check out our Video Of The Day of the title track.

Call Of The Wild 8/1/20
After its success last year, the Call of the Wild Festival returns this year over the weekend of Friday 29th to Sunday 31st May at the Lincolnshire Showground, Grange-de-Lings, Lincoln LN2 2NA. Headlining on the Friday is 2019 WRC 'Best Support' Award winner's Massive Wagons, whilst on Saturday, it's the new Godfather of Rock ‘n’ Roll: the one and only Michael Monroe! Motörhead Beer is also a main sponsor of Call of the Wild Festival – fitting as their Road Crew Beer will be served at the event; as the festival features the special Kilmister Stage honouring Lemmy; and as Lemmy’s long-standing oppo Phil Campbell will headline Sunday night with Phil Campbell and the Bastard Sons!
Marillion Win Best Prog Award 7/1/20
"We're sure a lot of old timers still hanker for some of the older material - and let's face it, there is some great stuff there - but to as much as even think it out loud would feel inappropriate and disrespectful, as it would be to utter the F-word. You know; the one that ends in 'ish'. And some context.. F-bloke recorded four albums during eight years with the band ... Hogarth has spent 30 years contributing to and performing 14 albums. Whilst there is an argument that there are perhaps two Marillions, the one you can still see doesn't really need the other... its got everything it needs - the same great musicians, a rich back catalogue, and in Hogarth the blessed combination of a great (and under-rated, to be honest) singer and front-man." With just four remaining winners to be announced in our 2019 WRC Awards, that was part of our take on Marillion at The Royal Albert Hall last November, and the band, who are today's Video Of The Day, have deservedly been voted 'Best Prog' performance.
Gales Warning 7/1/20
Eric Gales will embark on a 9-date UK tour this May and June following the release of his album ‘The Bookends’ via Provogue/Mascot Label Group last year, which features collaborations with B. Slade, Doyle Bramhall II and Beth Hart. Critically acclaimed British Blues Rock guitarist Danny Bryant will support the American Blues-Rock guitarist on 7 of the 9 dates, who, last year, also released his 11th studio album ‘Means of Escape’ via Jazzhaus Records. British singer-songwriter Ben Poole, who will release 'Ben Poole Trio Live ‘19', at the end of this month, will be Eric's special guest on the Leeds and Glasgow legs of Gales' tour.

Daxx & Roxane Win 'One's To Watch' Award 6/1/20
"Duly lubricated, another cover, the Stones 'Jumpin Jack Flash' was another slam dunk for those present, Pfister subsequently enquiring "Are we having a good time?" as he counted in eins, zwai, drei, into 'Good Vibes', the penultimate track of the set and from the debut album, his question duly answered by those boppin' away down the front, with Golaz joining in the fun playing his guitar behind his back. Pfister's offer of "One more song?" was immediately snatched from his grasp as the inevitable mosh pit formed for 'Wrong Side' - the boys from Montreaux finishing off their outstanding set sounding more like Montrose!" That was part of our review of Daxx & Roxane's Camden Black Heart gig in London last October, and the guys have subsequently walked away with our 2019 WRC 'One's To Watch' award. Also check out their Video Of The Day!
Wings Of Rage 6/1/20
Multi-faceted veteran German Heavy Metal trio Rage have signed to Steamhammer/SPV to release their riveting/captivating 24th new studio album, ‘Wings Of Rage’, unleashed this Friday 10th January. Formed in Spring 1983 in Herne in the industrial Ruhr region, Rage have integrated a wide range of stylistic nuances into their sound over the years, including Hard Thrash, Anthemnic Power Metal and a Symphonic Orientation incorporating orchestral elements. Following the release of ‘Wings Of Rage’ this consummate powerhouse trio will set off on a headline tour of Europe on Saturday 25th January, dropping in to the UK to bring the house down when they headline London’s Camden Underworld on Saturday 8th February.
Sounds Like A Million Bucks! 6/1/20
DeWolff are back, returning to your stereo this winter, but this time they strip down and go compact! No drum kit, no Hammond and no guitar amps, as they present to you, their 7th 'studio' album, the 'Tascam Tapes' (Track Of The Day). Written, performed and recorded on the road for less than 50 euros, but sounding like a million bucks, it's out this coming Friday 10th January via Mascot Records. Pablo van de Poel (guitar, vocals), Luka van de Poel (drums) and Robin Piso (keys) bring you this gnarly 12 slices of deliciousness, recorded on a Tascam Porta Two, a four track cassette recorder from the 1980’s. The only equipment they used was a sampler with some rare Soul and Funk sampled drum beats loaded in by Luka, a battery powered synthesizer and a guitar, all plugged directly into the recorder!
Dan Reed Network Wins Best Rock 5/1/20
"So a bit of a different kind of reunion caps off a great night with ‘Tiger in Dress’, ‘Under My Skin’, ‘Forgot to Make Her Mine’ - to mention just a few. Melvin Brannon never ceases to amaze with the sounds he manages to produce from his bass as he funks it up! Brion James with his distinctive braids crunches out the riffs, with Dan Pred on drums keeping the beat going. Rob Daiker on keyboards insists afterwards that he really is a guitarist, but we think he does a pretty good job tickling the ivories too. Reed as ever, bounces around the stage with boundless energy and ends the night and keeps it non-binary with his girl/boy quip on ‘Come Back Baby’!" That was part of our take on Dan Reed Network's O2 Shepherd's Bush Empire gig last month (Video Of The Day), and Dan and his boys have consequently carried off our 'Best Rock Performance' award in our 2019 WRC Awards.
Valentine's Day Waltz 5/1/20
US Progressive Metal pioneers and innovators Psychotic Waltz return with their original line-up for their highly anticipated 5th studio album and first new music in 23 years. Featuring Dan Rock – guitars and keys, Devon Graves – vocals, Ward Evans – bass, Norman Leggio – drums and Brian McAlpin – guitars, 'The God-Shaped Void', will be released on Friday 14th February. The basic tracks for their InsideOutMusic debut were recorded with engineer Ulrich Wild in the band’s hometown of San Diego, then the rest of the recordings at Studio D in Austria and finally the material was mixed/mastered by Jens Bogren (Opeth, Devin Townsend, Fates Warning) at Fascination Street Studios in Sweden.
MMXX Vision 5/1/20
Former Dream Theater members Mike Portnoy and Derek Sherinian, Ron "Bumblefoot" Thal (ex-Guns N Roses), Billy Sheehan (The Winery Dogs, Mr. Big, David Lee Roth) and Jeff Scott Soto (ex-Journey, ex-Yngwie Malmsteen's Rising Force) are ready to ring in the new decade with a sonic boom with Sons Of Apollo's second studio album (Track Of The Day), appropriately titled, 'MMXX' (pronounced: 20/20) due to be released on Friday17th January via InsideOutMusic. It says much that the huge talent involved immediately combined with a cohesive and recognizable individual stance on their 2017 #1 debut album, 'Psychotic Symphony', and consequently the bands headlining MMXX World Tour will launch on Thursday 24th January in Sacramento, and will then take them around the world, including European tour dates such as London's Islington Asembly Hall on Thursday 19th March, as well as South American dates in April.
Danny Vaughn Wins Best Unplugged Award 4/1/20
"Of course, Tyketto are also obviously a big part of Vaughn's career, so no surprises during his set that he single-handedly polished off classics such as 'Battle Lines' from 'Dig In Deep' and 'The Last Sunset' from 'Strength In Numbers'. However, there was time on our side, as he saved the best for his encore with another amazing vocal on 'Forever Young' from 'Don't Come Easy'. Indeed, nights like this don't come easy. A definite candidate for our WRC 2019 Best Unplugged award!" That was part of our review of Danny Vaughn at London's Black Heart in Camden in August (Video Of The Day), and indeed Danny was not only nominated for our 'Best Unplugged' performance in our 2019 WRC Awards, but Danny has only gone and won it as well!
Egypt Comes To Essex Today 4/1/20
No better way to clear the seasonal cobwebs away than to get along and see UK Blues Rock three piece Egypt, who will will be taking to the Blues At Barleylands stage today at 2pm at Barleylands Social Club, Barleylands Road, Billericay CM11 2UF. Formed in 1987, Eric Chipulina - guitars/vocals, Alan Fish - bass/vocals and Peter Correa - drums, are all former members of legendary Progressive Blues outfit The Groundhogs.
That's Alright Mama 4/1/20
Green Leaf Rustlers release their debut album on Saturday 14th March - a live collection entitled 'From Within Marin', and the album's first single, the American roots music standard 'That's Alright Mama', originally written by Bluesman Arthur "Big Boy" Crudup, is today's Track Of The Day. Comprised by Chris Robinson, Barry Sless, Greg Loiacono, Pete Sears and John Molo, the cosmic Country quintet have become a staple of the live music scene in and around Marin County, California, for their re-imagining of outlaw Country and Country Rock staples by artists like Gram Parsons, Waylon Jennings, The Byrds and more. The band, which seldom performs outside of North California, was captured in concert on the 2-LP set by none other than legendary recording engineer and Grateful Dead archivist Betty Cantor Jackson at a handful of early 2019 shows in Marin.
Ramblin' Man Fair Wins Best Festival Award 3/1/20
"So once again, we wend our way homewards from another successful Ramblin’ Man festival (sorry, fair…). It has been another triumph for the organisers. The organisation, sound, security etc has all been excellent. Such nice people to be with and the whole event has a lovely, happy, laid back feel to it. The big festivals seem to be getting bigger and more unwieldy but Ramblin’ Man manages to keep everything on a calmer level whilst still retaining the big festival atmosphere." That was part of our take on last year's Ramblin' Man Fair in July, and suffice to say that in our 2019 WRC Awards, RMF has once again won our 'Best Festival' award. Also check out our Allman Betts Band Video Of The Day.
Reign Of Gold 3/1/20
After three years of creative work, the epic Metal band Human Fortress released 'Reign Of Gold' last month with Victory's Tommy Newton again in control of production. The Hannover band go back to 1999, and their song 'The Dragon’s Lair' won Rock Hard Magazine‘s best unsigned song the following year. 'Reign of Gold' is their sixth album, and with their melodic hooks, heroic hymns and powerful vocals, spiced up with royal-medieval melodies, Human Fortress' sound still remains unique and self-reliant.
New Year Blues Club 3/1/20
The Blues Club Podcast Track Of The Day returns today with another two hours of non-stop Best in Blues with More Music and Less Chat, featuring New Releases, Classic Tracks, UK IBBA Presenters' Picks and much more including Paul Lamb & The King Snakes, Buddy Guy, Albert King, Giles Robson, Focus (pictured), Freddie King, Jimmy Johnson, Gary Moore, Breezy Rodio, Kyla Brox, Myles Goodwyn, The James Hunter Six and many more.
Elles Bailey Wins Best Reviewed CD 2/1/20
"It’s fair to say that this young talented singer and songwriter has firmly cemented her growing reputation with this, her second album, a really fine collection of eleven songs recorded in Nashville, with her excellent band and a bunch of session musicians, including a horn section that provide a Muscle Shoals feel to several numbers, as well as closer to home in Wales. The overall feel of the album has an Americana tinged feel, both in the themes of many songs, reflecting no doubt the influence of the number of different co-writers for most songs, as well as the expansive, soulful and Bluesy musical landscape presented, definitely more Western than West Country for this Bristol born singer." That was part of our take on Elles Bailey's latest CD (see our Video Of The Day), and Elles has duly walked off with our 2019 WRC Best Reviewed CD award for 'Road I Call Home'. Watch out for our next 2019 WRC awards announcement tomorrow!
Goo Goo Dolls February Tour 2/1/20
Goo Goo Dolls kick off a UK tour in Glasgow on Wednesday 19th February which also includes a show at London’s Roundhouse on Thursday 27th February. With more than three decades together as a band and over 12 million albums sold, the four-time Grammy-nominated Rock band released their 12th studio album 'Miracle Pill' last year. Last year they toured South America with Bon Jovi, which included a performance at the iconic music festival Rock In Rio, plus later in October, they embarked on a headline tour which visited over 20 cities across North America.
Sometime The Wolf 2/1/20
Rising from the depths of Preston in Lancashire, Gothic Rock newcomers Sometime The Wolf have been creating a name for themselves across the North of England, selling out shows and building a fervent fanbase for their dark, atmospheric music. Inspired by bands such as Fields of The Nephilim, Tiamat, Behemoth and Karnivool, the band bring a modern touch to the genre, delivering a powerful sound laden with mystery, magic and presence. Now stepping onto the national stage, they release their transfixing debut album 'From Here and Earth', on streaming services next Wednesday 8th January via Transcend Music. A complete and hypnotic body of work, it showcases a band who are ready to sit at the top of the Gothic scene and inspire legions of followers around the world. Ahead of the album, they have recently released today's Track Of The Day ‘Ashes’ which leads with anthemic guitar lines, emotive vocals and euphoric reverberations which build to a growling Metal crescendo.
Massive Wagons Win Best Support 1/1/20
"This was a relatively short 30 minute outing that was totally full on … Baz Mills bounces around the stage constantly (can’t wait to see how he keeps this up for a full set), whilst the twin guitars of Adam Thistlethwaite/Stephen Holl and the rhythm section of Alex Thistlethwaite (drums) and Adam Bouskill (bass) powered through the set perfectly, seemingly enjoying every second but certainly not fazed by the size of the room or the scale of the occasion." That was part of our review from the Lynyrd Skynyrd/Status Quo gig at London's SSE Wembley Arena back in June, and Massive Wagons (Video Of The Day) are the first winners in our 2019 WRC Awards - voted 'Best Support' band by our members!
Neil Innes 1/1/20
English writer, comedian and musician Neil Innes sadly died on Sunday at the age of 75. We fondly remember him firstly appearing in 1968 with the Bonzo Dog Doo Dah Band on the weekly Thames Television children's television series Do Not Adjust Your Set which also featured future Monty Python members Eric Idle, Terry Jones, Michael Palin and Terry Gilliam. As they say, the rest is history as he went on memorably to collaborate with Monty Python and also played in The Rutles. Today's Track Of The Day is dedicated to Neil - filmed at Monty Python's Live at the Hollywood Bowl in 1982.
