Recycled Teenagers! 29 September 2015

Any reservations about the guys kicking off with a song entitled 'Bad Experience' melted away as soon as the first chords were played. With it's uncomplicated foot tapping rhythm, it took us straight back to a time when music seemed always to be so much fun. By the time the opening notes of the album's title track 'Recycled Teenagers' sounded, the feel good factor had cranked into top gear, with a great deal of exuberant audience participation.

(pictured) is the highest-charting album of his career so far and has continued to receive overwhelmingly positive comments in the media. The Book Of Souls 28 September 2015

With ‘The Book of Souls’, Iron Maiden has further cemented its iconic status among the rock and metal community. This record is but another grand and fulfilling chapter in a legendary career that is distinguished by deft musicianship, intelligent lyrics and masterful songwriting. Kevin Shirley‘s production is understated yet flawlessly brilliant. Whether ‘The Book of Souls’ is the final chapter in Iron Maiden‘s impressive and historic catalogue of music remains to be seen, but it is certainly among its most memorable offerings since the band’s seminal 80’s works such as ‘Number of the Beast’ and ‘Powerslave’.

#MentalAsAnything 27 September 2015

John Bull's retort to Shepherd Bush Empire's tweet "Describe last night's @TheWildhearts show in 3 words!" nicely summed the evening up apparently. Yes Mr. Rockrpix was snapping away on behalf of the WRC on Friday - and you can see his usual excellent pics here as The Wildhearts (our Vid Of The Day) played their classic 'P.H.U.Q.' album in its entirety! Support was from the recently reformed Baby Chaos plus Ginger’s new band and side-project, the impressive (according to John ) Hey!Hello who are also pictured here.

Introducing .... Broken Witt Rebels 25 September 2015

Broken Witt Rebels first appeared on the WRC radar thanks to airplay by Bob and Jules at Rock On The Ridge. The four-piece band from Birmingham combines the power and intensity of Classic Rock with the finesse and delicacy of soulful blues. Previously supporting The View and playing up and down the country, the Rebels are putting their own original stamp on the Birmingham music scene and are definitely on the rise. Their latest EP, ‘Howlin’, was released in the Summer of 2014 and is available for worldwide digital download. The official video for single ‘Cloud My Day’ was released this week and is our Video Of The Day!

"It Was Fantastic!" 24 September 2015

It didn't take long for the social media fallout to get underway following an awesome night at The Half Moon, Putney, on Tuesday which saw the excellent Blues Rock of young support band Southbound (pictured and our Vid Of The Day) complemented by the loud, dirty, fun and raunchy Classic Rock of headliners Shooter at their 'Recycled Teenagers' launch party. What a great night - two excellent bands for the price of one!  Southbound tweeted "Wonderful gig last night at @HalfmoonPutney with @SHOOTERtheBand @WRINKLYCLUB @RockontheRidge Great Venue too #gig" whilst Shooter not only tweeted "@HalfmoonPutney you were awesome thx @RockontheRidge @WRINKLYCLUB and thx to an awesome support band @bandsouthbound" but also made a Facebook posting "Thanks to AJ and the Wrinkly Rockers Club - check out their website for vids and reviews!" Anyway watch this space for a review and pics from Jules and Bob respectively from the Rock On The Ridge team - Bob summing up the evening in three simple words: "It was fantastic!".

Everyone's A Winner! 24 September 2015

Shoot-Out At The Half Moon! 23 September 2015

The eagerly anticipated shoot-out on the banks of The Thames had nothing to do with the Fulham v. Stoke Cup tie being played at The Cottage last night! No, the real deal was at The Half Moon, Putney, as the Blues Rock of support band Southbound took on the Classic Rock of Shooter at their 'Recycled Teenagers' launch party - very appropriate for the WRC! Anyway, were Shooter loud, dirty, fun and raunchy and did Southbound live up to their reputation as an extremely talented up and coming band? Well for starters take a gander at today's Vid Of The Day with more pics, vids and a review to come over the next few days!

Tonight Bernie will be calling in at The Stables, Milton Keynes and although he was right to be wary of flooding the credits with too many special guests, ‘Shine’ does feature some extremely well-known names, from Joe Bonamassa to Whitesnake mucker and singer David Coverdale plus the Deep Purple duo of Ian Paice (drums) and Don Airey (keyboards)!

Shooter In Bad Company! 22 September 2015

And we're not talking about support band Southbound (our Vid Of The Day) either! Yes all rivers lead tonight to Shooter's album launch at The Half Moon, Putney by The Thames. If you like Classic Rock as it should be i.e.  loud, dirty, fun and raunchy - then this is a no-brainer. From the ashes of 70's rock legends Straightshooter -  a bit like the WRC - they are slightly older, slightly greyer, but still 'Recycled Teenagers ... hence the title of the album! The WRC also understand that ex-Bad Company and Samson guitarist Dave 'Bucket' Colwell will also be at the gig! Tickets are £10 on the door and you also get a FREE copy of the album on entry. See you there!

Saturday's Show Will Make Your Ears Smile! 22 September 2015

Meanwhile Bob and Jules' Saturday night broadcast is in the can and is today's Track Of The Day. And as they added:  "If you missed it it's here, our ears will thank you" - so sit back and enjoy a playlist that includes Hollywood Vampires,  Broken Witt Rebels,  Avenged Sevenfold,  Chris Cornell,  The Dead Weather, Loosehounds and Chickenfoot (pictured at Brixton Academy in January 2012).

Wrinklystock 4 Virtually Sold Out! 21 September 2015

Flying Colors Second Flight! 21 September 2015

2014 WRC Award Winners Flying Colors (our Track Of The Day) will be releasing the electrifying â€˜Second Flight: Live At The Z7’ on 13th November via Music Theories Recordings/Mascot Label Group on multiple formats. On only the eighth show of their 2014 fall tour, they took to the stage at Switzerland’s storied Z7 venue and captured on film a breathtaking live performance. With their critically acclaimed second album album 'Second Nature' out for only a week, the concert recorded an exceptional rarity: band and audience, together, discovering an album for the first time. That freshness is palpable in every frame of this Ultra-HD/Blu-ray/DVD release!

Introducing ..... Dani Dorchin 20 September 2015

If you wanted proof that the WRC has truly become international - then look no further than when we were contacted recently from Germany in respect of an Israeli version of Andy Twyman! Yes our 'Introducing ...' feature returns with Dani Dorchin (our Vid Of The Day) a songwriter who masters the guitar, harmonica and drums all at the same time as a powerful Blues and Rock One Man Band act. Dorchin is a well experienced musician who played both the Fusion Festival and also warmed up for Patti Smith at the Hohentwiel Festival (pictured) this year. Dorchin's blend of Blues, Garage Rock and Groove is both fresh and raw, combining original lyrics with dirty guitar riffs and simple yet effective rhythm's, leaving the crowd asking for more!

Red Lion's Voodoo Room! 20 September 2015

Similarly to Dani Dorchin - Voodoo Room were showcased in our 'Introducing ....' feature in March.  An exciting classic power trio, paying tribute to both Hendrix and Cream, they perform a kicking, world class show in total appreciation of these two massive pioneers of classic Blues/Rock!! Featuring Pete Orr on guitar and vocals, John Tonks on drums and Andy Tolman on bass - we're delighted that Voodoo Room (our Track Of The Day) are our next WRC Promotion at The Red Lion, Gravesend this Friday 25th September!

Guitars Across The Atlantic! 19 September 2015

Yes the WRC will be represented on both sides of the pond at gigs this evening. Indeed James Corden was not very complimentary about Sidcup, Kent, on his American TV show recently saying "It's not the armpit (of England) but it's close". No doubt The Replicants (our Vid Of The Day) will show that Sidcup 'Rocks' when they play the Iron Horse tonight at 9pm (see poster below). Meanwhile Wrinkly will be taking in The Maine at the House Of Blues in Orlando. Expect a review from him shortly plus a flying visit to Los Angeles to put Corden straight!

So Much Great Music Your Ears Won't Believe It! 19 September 2015

If you can't make The Replicants gig or join Wrinkly at the House Of Blues then the good news is that you can simply tune in to the The Rock On The Ridge show here tonight between 8pm and 10pm! And just to tantalise your taste buds - Bob & Jules tweeted on Friday: "On the show Saturday @glenn_hughes @alterbridge @rivalsons @Samantha_Fish @TheOfficialA7X @chickenfoot & more join us 8-10pm @RidgeradioUk" Watch out also for the ROTR team at Shooter/Southbound's Half Moon gig (pictured) on Tuesday where the guys will be kindly reviewing the gig on behalf of the WRC!

Yes we turn the clock back to the iconic 100 Club last year when we saw Laurence Jones and Roger Inniss (both pictured) - the vid testament to why these guys are held in such regard by their voting public. And talking of a well deserved third place in this year's Independent Blues Broadcaster category -  tune in to The Marshman from 7pm BST here tonight for Blues On The Marsh.

King,  Gun and Airbourne. However, the pièce de résistance is Wrinkly The Silver's request for some Magnum as it was lead singer and WTS's mate Bob Catley (pictured with WTS and Wrinkly The Biker) 68th birthday last Friday! Happy Birthday Bob!

The Maine Event! 15 September 2015

For a professional touring musician, it sounds like a recipe for disaster. You and your bandmates pile into a bus for a nationwide tour, but almost everywhere you go, nobody pays a dime to get into your shows. You have no corporate sponsor. No record label picking up the tab. Most nights, you don't sell a single ticket. Instead of theatres or clubs, The Maine, a rock band from Arizona and our Vid Of The Day will play non-traditional venues such as shopping malls and parking lots. And to save money, they'll sleep on their tour bus! But that's exactly what the guys have signed up for by launching a free, 26-city tour that stops off at the House of Blues in Orlando this Saturday and our very own Wrinkly (Colin) will be there!  And not content with getting a freebie he intends pestering the guys for an interview to see how the tour is going – who knows this could be the way forward for bands in the UK as well? If anyone has any questions they would like Colin to ask them just e-mail us at wrinklyrockers11@aol.com Keep Music Live – and free it would seem!!

Free Joe Bonamassa Download! 14 September 2015

Our recently featured Joe Bonamassa 'One Less Cross To Bear' Vid Of The Day is now available for free MP3 download here! In January 2015, JB took to the iconic Great Stage at Radio City Music Hall for the first time for a sold-out, two-night run that allowed him to fulfill his lifelong dream of performing in one of the world’s most legendary venues. Bonamassa shared this experience with fans and music lovers around the world when he released at the beginning of October 'Joe Bonamassa – Live At Radio City Music Hall' (see our new Video Of The Day) as a CD/DVD set and CD/Blu-ray set.

Marshman Laying On The Tracks As Usual! 12 September 2015

The Empire Strikes Back! 11 September 2015

"I could only sit there and marvel at the dexterity and marvellous interplay between the drummers, overseen like some sort of musical bank manager by Robert Fripp. If you closed your eyes you’d never know there were three players such is their cohesion. With Rieflin also playing the mellotron, the trio was frequently given a chance to shine with extended percussion-only interludes Not one word was spoken to the audience all evening by any band member by the way. This felt like some sort of classic orchestral performance. The ‘congregation’ (as this was clearly a religious experience for many attending) were totally entranced for the most part as the music demanded."

Introducing ..... Idlewar 9 September 2015

The WRC were recently delighted to hear from Idlewar drummer Pete Pagonis, a three piece rock band in the best tradition of a power trio - hailing from Orange County, California!  Formed in 2014 the band including James Blake (Bass & Vocals) and Rick Graham (Guitar) has been working hard writing and recording. The result of that hard work is the 5 song EP 'Dig In',which is already receiving great early reviews of which 'Eleventeen' is our Track Of The Day. Driving rhythms, riffs to remember and vocals of impassioned grit. There’s no extra fat on these songs and they leave you wanting to hit play again. Carrying on in the hard rock tradition of bands like the Foo Fighters, AC/DC & Aerosmith, Idlewar also merges elements of bands like Clutch, Royal Blood and Queens of the Stone Age to carry the torch of rock into the modern era and are a welcome addition to our 'Introducing ..' feature here.

Burning Bridges! 5 September 2015

"If Sambora’s departure offered any chances for the remaining band members to reconnect or reinvent themselves, they have been squarely ignored. JBJ, for example, could have revisited the confessionalism of his 1997 solo album, Destination Anywhere’. Keyboard player David Bryan – the composer behind Broadway musical ‘Memphis’ – might finally have been given a moment to shine. They could have tried, well, something new. Instead, ‘Burning Bridges’ is the sound of a band at its least inspired – many of these tunes are cast-offs from old sessions, dusted off and, presumably, spitefully overdubbed with new guitar parts (no credits are included)."

Flying Colors Charity Auction 5 September 2015

In support of Heavy Metal Truants Monster Rock Auction, progressive/rock supergroup Flying Colors (our Vid Of The Day) - comprised of guitarist Steve Morse (Deep Purple/Dixie Dregs), drummer Mike Portnoy (Transatlantic, Winery Dogs, ex-Dream Theater), keyboardist/singer Neal Morse (solo artist, Transatlantic, ex-Spock’s Beard), bass wizard Dave LaRue (Dixie Dregs, Joe Satriani, Steve Vai) and new pop singer/songwriter Casey McPherson - have offered a 'Create a Song' experience to record a song with the band and their team. The winner will write a song with creative guidance from the band, have studio time with their exec producer, and mix/master with their engineers. The auction closes here on Monday 7th September at 7pm BST and is in aid of Nordoff Robbins, ChildLine and Teenage Cancer Trust.

Bad Bad Boys! 4 September 2015

"Joni Mitchell's 'This Flight Tonight' was the first Nazareth single I ever bought and Agnew's bass was as tight as ever on this Rock classic. An honour to witness it. Murrison's Zep type riff on 'One Set Of Bones' from 'Rock 'N' Roll Telephone' was literally a classic head-banger as my air guitar mate managed to crack heads with me! No offence taken although Sentance slowed things down with 'Dream On' although they upped a gear with the Bluesy Pop of 'Holiday'. The mid-set recess continued with 'Turn On Your Receiver' from 'Loud 'n' Proud' - always thought that one sounded a bit like 'Last Train To Clarksville'! Back to the big hitters and 'Bad Bad Boy' which seemed quite appropriate for the Naz faithful gathered down the front although all too old to call it a 'mosh pit' methinks! The Crazy Horses cover 'Beggars Day' was followed by the brilliant 'Changin' Times' - Jimmy's riff reminiscent of his Zep namesake and similarly Carl stepping up to the plate - Dan and indeed Plant would give Sentance a slap on the back for his vocals on this one."

Half Deaf Marshman Tonight! 4 September 2015

British Blues Awards Independent Blues Broadcaster nominee Kevin Beale has a live phone interview with the similarly nominated Half Deaf Clatch here tonight on Blues on the Marsh at 7pm BST. And although he admits it's work in progress - the Marshman now also has a  Blues On The Marsh website here - is there no end to this man's talents?

Razamanaz! 3 September 2015

The first time we saw Nazareth was at The Great British Music Festival at Olympia in London!  It was a 3 day event and for £3.50 each day you could see some of the best bands of all time. Our overriding memories of the day were seeing Ronnie Lane's Slim Chance who had just formed after the split of The Faces (still going strong and well worth seeing) and then Nazareth lifting the roof off the place so much so that Bad Company took to the stage and just said "follow that!" Just under forty years down the line we saw them again at the Brooklyn Bowl in the O2 Arena, London, last night. At their peak, they were huge, selling vast quantities of albums and hit singles, pulling in enormous crowds to their shows all over the world. Understandably the components have changed over time a bit like Trigger's broom - so what was the verdict? A review and more pics to follow but in the meantime have a look at our Vid Of The Day!

Troy Casts His Spell - Live! 3 September 2015

"On a high he could have left the stage then but, no - he’d saved the best to last.  Now was the time to really unleash and demonstrate why his guitar playing has been so highly praised (as if he hadn’t already!).  Voodoo Chile is always a bit of a crowd pleaser but it perfectly fits Troys style and he attacks it with diving and soaring runs as that slide shoots up and down the fretboard.   Many have tried, but not many can really make this song their own - Troy Redfern does just that, and with style." That was Richard Dunning's take on the Troy Redfern Band at this year's BluesRockfest and that particular live track is today's Track Of The Day! Watch out for more live tracks to be released from all the bands on that memorable day in July plus how you can buy the DVD/CD!

Larry Miller Update 3 September 2015

The WRC were delighted to receive the folowing update on Larry: "Larry has made a big improvement. He's now walking normally and he even ran down the hospital corridor !!! He can move his right hand and each of his fingers. Larry is in much better spirits and reading. He's received many cards in the post and over a thousand facebook and e-mail messages. His rehabilitation will take sometime but there is now hope that he can come back and do what he loves doing best. Thank you to everybody for your continued support. It makes Larry stronger everyday." The WRC would also like to congratulate Larry's bass player Derek White (pictured with Larry at Bluesfest in 2013) for being nominated for the second year running in the bass section of the British Blues Awards after coming runner up last year.

Woke Up This Morning ..... 2 September 2015

Tonight Nazareth invade the Brooklyn Bowl, London, to give us all a little Hair of the Dog. At their peak, they were huge, selling vast quantities of albums and hit singles, pulling in enormous crowds to their shows all over the world. Like all the best bands, Nazareth came from humble roots. They formed in Dunfermline, Scotland, and played the Scottish clubs throughout the 1960’s in their original incarnation as The Shadettes. The name change to Nazareth came in 1970 and in 1971 the band moved to London to start what was to become a long and illustrious recording career. 2015 sees them back on the road featuring new singer Carl Sentance (ex-Geezer Butler Band and  Krokus), standing proudly alongside founder member Pete Agnew (bass) and long time band members Jimmy Murrison (guitar) and Lee Agnew (drums).

Busman's Holiday! 2 September 2015

After the Bank Holiday and as promised - normal service has resumed on the website we hope today. Anyway, another of one of those WRC "You Couldn't Make It Up" moments occurred during AJ's well earned mini-cruise over the weekend. Although he was expecting the West-End show 'We Will Rock You' to be part of the ship's entertaintment - he nearly choked on his cornflakes when he saw that our old muckers The Counterfeit Stones were also performing that night! Despite the fact there was no Brian Jones or Mick Taylor - there was of course Nick Dagger (pictured) and Bill Hymen! Today's Vid Of The Day gives you a flavour of what they are all about and for another one of those WRC "You Couldn't Make It Up" moments just ask us about the possibility of the Counterfeit's playing Wrinklystock at The Mick Jagger Centre!

Key To The Door! 2 September 2015

Today's Route 66 Track Of The Day features new tracks from Joe Bonamassa, Thorbjorn Risager & The Black Tornado, Kim Simmonds & Savoy Brown, Heather Crosse, Tedeschi Trucks Band, Bob Seger and Lance Lopez. Host Rory Auskerry also has music from double British Blues Award nominee, Trevor Sewell plus classic tracks come from ZZ Top (pictured at Wembley in June), AC/DC, Queen (how appropriate), The Rolling Stones (very appropriate) and Little Richard. It's another rockin' edition of Route 66 but it almost didn't get on air because someone at Pure 107.8FM Radio locked the studio door!
