Reynolds Leather Jacket 30/12/20
jonreynolds.jpeg

Jon Reynolds & The Aches have recently released today's kaleidoscopic lyric Video Of The Day for their brand new single, ‘Leather Jacket’, taken from the forthcoming debut EP, 'Petrichor', out on Friday 22nd January. ‘Leather Jacket’ is a potent Pop Rock track oozing with atmosphere and inescapable hooks reminiscent of a pairing between The War On Drugs and The Gaslight Anthem. The band first emerged in 2018 with two well-received singles ‘Undertow’ and ‘Tomorrow’s News’. Following their release and a period of reflection, Jon buried himself in the studio with engineer Owen Lewis (Willie Nelson, Snow Patrol, R.E.M) and drummer Matt Singler, to work on new material. This newfound clarity reverberates right through the new EP, which also features the previously released singles ‘Imogene’, ‘Come Now Spring’ and ‘Love Blind’.

mail-140.jpeg

Joseph Williams will release his new solo album, 'Denizen Tenant', next year on Friday 26th February, via The Players Club/Mascot Label Group, and ahead of this, he has released his second song from the album, and his self-produced Video Of The Day for 'Liberty Man'. Joseph's latest tune with David Paich, is also a reunion with his Toto bro’s Simon Phillips and Leland Sklar. Also featured are the incredible Mike Landau and of course Steve Lukather, who will also release his solo album simultaneously, with both artists making a significant contribution to the other’s masters. 'Denizen Tenant' features a dozen new recordings. Amongst these are a cover of The Beatles 'If I Fell', which Williams cites as the one specific song that taught him about the power of harmonies and vocal arrangements. On Peter Gabriel’s 'Don’t Give Up', a very special guest performance is featured in his daughter Hannah laying down a vocal track. Indeed, Joseph is the son of film composer John Williams and actress Barbera Ruick.

With just four days to vote now in our 2020 WRC Awards, today we turn our attention to the nominees in our Best Prog Performance. In January we caught both of Francis Dunnery's It Bites gigs at Wolverhampton's Slade Rooms and Manchester's Club Academy, whilst later that month we saw The Crazy World Of Arthur Brown (pictured) at Nell's in London. In early February we also took in Atomic Rooster at the 100 Club, and finally, towards the end of the month, and also in London, we attended Dream Theater's (Video Of The Day)  Eventim Hammersmith Apollo gig. So if you want to cast your vote for one of these superb Prog Rock bands then simply go here https://www.wrinklyrockersclub.com/wrc-award-nominees

Island of Forgotten Toys 28/12/20
523766.jpg

On the back of three recently released singles, 'King Creep' (Track Of The Day), 'Never Stop' and 'Beneath The Silence', Psych Rock outfit Kilfeather earlier this month released their new full-length album, 'Island of Forgotten Toys', on Riot Records (part of Golden Robot Global Entertainment Group). Performing with a power trio under his own name, Kilfeather is a known multi-instrumentalist but specialises in guitar, vocals, and songwriting, and has written and released over 30 records and counting since 2006. His music has been referred to as “Psych Garage Punk”, a sound that best describes a concoction of Garage Rock and Roll mixed with elements of Punk, Classic Metal and Pop music. Indeed, Island of Forgotten Toys is a 12-song powerhouse filled with every flavour of Rock and Roll, and his latest work explores many aspects of the genre while also mixing in a dash of Punk and Pop into the potion.

Wig Wam Bam 28/12/20
wigwam.jpeg

The recently reunited Norwegian Hard Rockers Wig Wam are back next year with ‘Never Say Die’, due to be released on Friday 22nd January, of which 'Kilimanjaro' is today's Video Of The Day. It's their first album since 2012 and an exciting record that showcases all the elements that have helped the band forge their reputation: driving energy, unstoppable force and never ending fun! The most complete sounding effort yet by the quartet, its twelve fresh sounding songs still wear loud guitars on their sleeves while showcasing a more mature approach. The catchy hooklines and Melodic Hard Rock anthems they are renowned for are still very much in evidence, and, with three gifted songwriters in the camp, the album shines, tweaks and pounds just the way a full blooded Rock 'n' Roll record should. Wig Wam is back and ready to take its listeners on a wild ride.

About Moving On 27/12/20
About-Moving-On-artwork.jpg

Today's beautifully understated Lo-Fi Alt Pop Track Of The Day, is Canadian songstress Vissia's breathtaking music  video (directed by Cassandra Paige) for 'About Moving On', released last month. Following the tale of strength in vulnerability in ‘Walk Me Home’, comes a minimalist ballad about the painful fallout of a relationship - heart-breakingly intimate, with Vissia’s exquisite voice leading the charge. Unequivocally cinematic and ethereal in tone, Vissia’s new offering is an exploration into the unpredictable nature of grieving and emotions. Her astute lyricism is matched here with deep yet minimal synth lines which gives the song a sense of flow and continuum, making the feeling of heartbreak incredibly palpable.

Another Side 27/12/20
336518.jpg

Beloved Enemy are back with today's Video Of The Day of 'Virus Undead', which shows the band from an acoustic side, and is taken from next year's EP, 'Another Side', due out on Saturday 30th January. Industrial, Metal, Gothic, Rock - the musical mixture from the pen of guitarist Peter Pathos is incomparable and lays a perfect foundation for the unique voice of singer Andrew James 'Dead L-Vis'. Also consisting of Martin 'Dog' Kessler on drums, Chai Deveraux also on guitar plus Eddy on bass, 'Enemy Mine', their debut came out of nowhere in 2007 and was followed by 'Behind Enemy Lines' in 2011.

Leslie West 26/12/20
220px-Leslie_west-2.jpg

American Rock guitarist, vocalist and songwriter, Leslie West (Video Of The Day), best known as a founding member and co-lead vocalist of Mountain, sadly passed away at the age of 75 this week, just days before Christmas. This legendary Power-Rock band made its electrifying debut at Woodstock in the summer of 1969, and thirty-five years and millions of album sales later, the line-up still included the whiskey voiced West, plus the incomparable Corky Laing on drums (who believe it or not did not play with them at Woodstock), when we were lucky enough to see them at Dartford's Mick Jagger Centre, back in February 2005.

rainbreakers.jpeg

The mighty Rainbreakers are back, having been busy over the last two years recording their lovingly honed new material, spearheaded by their striking new single ‘Ashes’, which will be released on Friday 26th February, taken from the band’s forthcoming new album to be released next year. Their new music pours the best elements of Rock, Blues and Soul - that some might describe as Rock ‘n’ Soul! Defying simple pigeonholing, but taking influence from the late 60’s and early 70’s great Rock bands, and infusing it with a modern sense of Soul and Blues, the Shropshire based band, consisting of Ben Edwards (vocals), Charlie Richards (guitar), Ash Milburn (bass) and Sam Edwards (drums), have been consistently engaging brains and ears during a steady emergence over recent years.

Mighty Bosscats Found You 23/12/20
mightybosscats.jpeg

It was good to receive both a Christmas and a positive New Year’s message from Richard Townend of The Mighty Bosscats, thanking everyone who purchased this year’s releases of ‘Live In Moscow’ and ‘Ticket To Memphis’, of which, ‘I Found You’, is today’s Track Of The Day. Not unexpectedly, both albums received great reviews, and the good news is that this has spurred Townend on to start recording a new album in the New Year. Indeed, we understand this one will be special, incorporating some pretty big-name players who will be helping Richard on it!

Indeed, Arc Of Life is a true garden of delight for Progressive Rock fans and the band is looking forward to performing live.

Due to the on-going pandemic situation, Samantha Fish has rescheduled her March 2021 UK tour and will now play Newcastle, Edinburgh and London this September, with Bath, Manchester, Nottingham, Cardiff and Brighton now taking place in February 2022. Feel Like Crying 22/12/20
91YI-6+ojmL._SS500_.jpg

We were really chuffed recently to be included in a tweet from Detroit musician, singer and record producer, Fernando Saunders, which included Saunders performing his stand-out composition of ‘Feel Like Crying’, filmed at Bratislava’s Livin’ Blues a couple of years back. However, Fernando is perhaps best known for his long-time partnership with a certain Lou Reed, from 1982 to 1987 and again from 1996 to 2008, of which a classic performance by them both on the Late Show with David Letterman, is today’s Video Of The Day.

Dance Of The Black Tattoo 21/12/20
magnum.jpg

‘Dance Of The Black Tattoo’, a magnificent collection of rare and vital versions of Magnum’s most accomplished, uplifting Rock compositions, is all set to more than light up every Rock music fan’s dreary winter days once it’s released next year on Friday 8th January on Steamhammer/SPV.During the three years since Magnum brought out ‘The Valley Of Tears - The Ballads’, a compilation that focused on their quiet, more other worldly and dreamy side, the idea matured to follow with a companion piece, ‘Dance Of The Black Tattoo’, alternatively highlighting the band’s anthemic, harder rocking, blockbuster songs. Consequently, Tony Clarkin - guitar, Bob Catley - vocals, Rick Benton - keyboards, Dennis Ward - bass and Lee Morris - drums delved deep into their impressive archives to unearth this rare live cuts and outstanding radio edits of fourteen fist-in-the-air-pumping Rock numbers! The band is also set to tour the UK and Ireland next year, kicking off at Nottingham’s Rock City on Thursday 16th September.

Anneke's Promise 21/12/20
AVG - album cover.jpg

Anneke van Giersbergen has recently unveiled today’s Video Of The Day for ‘My Promise’, the first new track taken from her new solo album, 'The Darkest Skies Are The Brightest’, which is set for release on Friday 26th February via InsideOutMusic. Lyrically, and musically, the award-winning Dutch artist lays her soul bare with the most evocative record of her career - captivating song-stories told with acoustic guitars, strings, horns, percussion, and Anneke's hypnotic vocal harmonies. The resulting 11-track record has all the intimacy of Anneke serenading an audience of one, combined with surprising departures into swampier, foot-stomping grooves. Former front-woman for melancholic Metallers, The Gathering, it’s her 23rd career album and proves, once again, that Giersbergen defies being pigeonholed by any genre.

Psychosomatic 21/12/20
immortal.jpeg

For fans of Iron Maiden, Helloween, Symphony X, Kamelot, Marty Friedman and Dragonforce, Progressive/Power Metal quartet, Immortal Guardian, recently unveiled the music video for today’s Track Of The Day, ‘Lockdown’, taken from their upcoming 2021 concept album, ‘Psychosomatic’, via M-Theory Audio, out on Friday 12th February. It’s the second single taken from ‘Psychosomatic’, and the album itself is a product of the extraordinary events of 2020. Indeed, the result is a truly multi-national record, with guitarist/keyboardist Gabriel Guardian remaining in Las Vegas, vocalist Carlos Zema recording his vocals from his home in Brazil, new drummer Justin Piedimonte joining the band from his hometown in Montreal, and new bassist Joshua Lopez remaining in Immortal Guardian's native Texas. Following on from their acclaimed 2018 debut full-length, ‘Age of Revolution’, this is the next step, capturing the band’s exhilarating trademark melding of Melodic Power Metal with Progressive/shred tendencies.

Jason Payne - WTD.jpg

Here to pitch a belter of a Video Of The Day is today’s debut Melodic Metal Rock single, 'Waking The Damned', from Jason Payne & The Black Leather Riders, that was released on Friday. After years of focus, tuition programs, past bands and international competitions developing his musical style, 2017 to 2020 saw the London based artistfront the British Rock outfit Louzada on guitar and vocals, amassing thousands of worldwide fans through just one EP. However, the arrival of the worldwide pandemic brought about the amicable hiatus of Louzada, resulting in time to put in the focus and determination needed to launch his most ambitious project yet; Jason Payne & The Black Leather Riders.Think big riffs, impactful grit-laden vocals and an energy just screaming to be invited to the live stage.

Typically the stuff of biker Rock legend, that you'd find somewhere down an American highway - they blend Americana with Bluesy retro vibes to create their unique brand of spiced Blues Rock.Fronted by Jason Lee Barratt, with Harun Kotch on lead guitar, Wayne Riches on drums and Mike Hartnett on bass, this Bluesy, Roots album is littered with rockin’ riffs plus sassy brass, and with a sound this big, you'll have to pinch yourself to remember that they come from the UK!

Hayley Jensen - Fireworks - single cover

Country singer-songwriter Hayley Jensen released her latest single, 'Fireworks', last month, through Social Family Records, the Power Pop-Country follow-up to her biggest hit to date, 'Breakin’ Hearts'. Co-written with Aussie expat and Billboard Country #1 songwriter, Phil Barton, and writing partner, Dana Heaton-Perdue, 'Fireworks' features soaring, powerhouse vocals we’ve come to expect from Jensen, the song capturing the electricity and spark of young love. Sticking with a winning formula, Hayley called on the production prowess of Troy Kokol at Reluctant Cowboy Records in Canada, who also produced and co-wrote 'Breakin’ Hearts'. As with the previous single, Jensen recorded vocals in her home studio in Sydney, and Kokol played every instrument on the track.

mail-377.jpeg

'Rock And Roll Radio', the third solo album by Swedish vocalist and multi-instrumentalist Michael Palace, was released by Frontiers at the beginning of this month, of which the track, 'Way Up Here', is today's Video Of The Day. It's the first that Palace has fully self-produced, mixed and mastered, and it delivers authentic 80's influenced AOR/Melodic Rock in spades, with dreamy keyboards, layers of soaring guitars, a huge drum sound and thundering bass. Palace has also featured on releases by other artists, with the likes of labelmates Angelica, Crazy Lixx, Find Me and Creye benefitting from his expert songwriting, guitar and vocal skills. His association with Frontiers began as a songwriter and guitarist for First Signal (featuring Harem Scarem vocalist Harry Hess), Cry of Dawn (featuring session vocalist Göran Edman), Kryptonite (featuring The Poodles vocalist Jakob Samuel) and Toby Hitchcock (also of Pride Of Lions), after which he signed to the label.

mail-376.jpeg

Legendary Australian rockers Taste have released today's Video Of The Day for '2020's Gone', the new single from their upcoming EP, 'Brothers Vol. 1', that will be available worldwide on Wednesday 23rd December. Written as an anthem to kick this year's arse and say "good riddance 2020", Ken Murdoch (vocals), Michael Tortoni (bass) and Joey Amenta (guitar), are hoping to create a universal response at 12.01am on Friday 1st January 2021 by encouraging all media and musicians to join them in playing '2020's Gone' through whatever outlet is available to you! 'Brothers Vol. 1' is an EP for our times, but steeped in the wide-screen colours of a more Progressive era. Real strings. Layers of percussion. Walls of harmony. Crafted segues, dramatic timing shifts and a vast, unified vision that befits the grandeur of its title. The band is a potpourri of Queen, Muse and 10cc. Harmonies, guitars and souring vocals abound!

DBA (Downes Braide Association) return next year with their fifth album, 'Halcyon Hymns', which will be released on Friday 5th February, and the duo have recently launched the first track from the album, 'Love Among The Ruins', a delightful and uplifting love song, that is today's Track Of The Day. Keyboard wizard with Yes, Geoff Downes was a founder member of Asia and was one half of Buggles, with Trevor Horn on 'Video Killed The Radio Star', whilst British singer-songwriter-pianist-producer Chris Braide, who recently re-located back to the UK from the USA, has worked with the cream of artists, from Lana Del Rey, Paloma Faith and Marc Almond to Beyonce to name but a few. Indeed, 'Halcyon Hymns' also features contributions by Almond (ex-Soft Cell) and David Longdon (Big Big Train). It's their fifth DBA collaboration, and follows their previous critically-acclaimed studio albums 'Pictures of You' (2012), 'Suburban Ghosts' (2015) and 'Skyscraper Souls' (2017). The duo have also released 'Live In England' (2019), recorded at their first ever concert at Trading Boundaries, East Sussex, in 2018.

E D Brayshaw CD Review 14/12/20
61jTL6Hus1L._SS500_.jpg

"The album ends with a lovely instrumental called ‘Twilight’, that has the melody carried along by picked chords over which E D plays some excellent Bluesy solos. The bass is again excellent. This is a really fine collection. E D doesn’t quite have the same connotation as EC but is well worth checking out all the same. These are the sort of songs and style of guitar playing that puts a smile on the face!" Today, read one of our last album reviews before the launch of our new website, as Simon Green gives you his take here: https://www.wrinklyrockersclub.com/cd-reviews-july on E D Brayshaw's latest CD, 'Fire Without Water', that was released earlier this year, including today'sTrack Of The Day of 'Hear The Rain'.

With socially distanced gigs gradually rearing their new normal heads again, such as Warmduscher at Hackney's Earth on Saturday night (pictured), today's Video Of The Day is the Dave Sinclair Four performing 'Apropos Blues' at St. Harmonica's Blues Club in London's Southgate, back in October. Consisting of David Sinclair - vocals/guitar, Geoff Peel - guitar, Jos Wolfman Mendoza - bass, Rory Mendoza - drums and Laurie Garman - harmonica, this was the first public performance of 'Apropos Blues', a song written during the first UK lockdown, and performed just ahead of the second lockdown. Out Of Time 13/12/20
mail-375.jpeg

For fans of Faith No More, Deftones, Avenged Sevenfold, Breaking Benjamin and Volbeat, Feed After Midnite hails from Ottawa and thanks to recent, pandemic-granted free time, they have recently released their energetic, upbeat first single, 'Out of Time', which is today's Track Of The Day. Consisting of Dylan DeRepentigny (bass), Sean Bolster (drums), Yvon Gauthier (vocals), Denis Bastien (guitar) and Marc Bastien (guitar), those who enjoy many facets of Hard Rock and Metal will appreciate this Canadian band, which was formed in 2018, that takes a large amount of inspiration from horror movies, current events and childhood memories. Indeed, when they first started out they had a predominantly Hard Rock sound which evolved into heavier stylings but at the same time, remaining catchy and simple.

Existential Reckoning 13/12/20
thumbnail-202.jpeg

Last Friday, Puscifer released their critically-acclaimed new album, 'Existential Reckoning' (Alchemy Recordings/Puscifer Entertainment/BMG) on physical formats (vinyl/CD/cassette), accompanied by today's Video Of The Day of 'Bedlamite'. Born somewhere in the Arizona desert, they're an Electro-Rock band, multimedia experience, traveling circus and alien abduction survivors! Renowned for an immersive live show, the group’s performances blur the lines between concert and theatre. Indeed, the clip features performance footage from the band’s recent record-breaking livestream event, 'Existential Reckoning: Live at Arcosanti', which found Puscifer in the heart of the Arizona dessert, surrounded by the uniquely “utopian metropolis” that Architectural Digest described as looking like “the sublime set of a big-budget sci-fi movie.”

The Lonesome Man 11/12/20
a spotify 3000.jpg

In September, Swedish band Diamonds and Guns released their latest/third single, and today's Video Of The Day, 'The Lonesome Man', a kind of a dark story, pirate-party-Punk Rock song with an Irish tone. The Stockholm based band is relatively new, originally forming just two years ago in September, with the band's name a tribute to America's West Coast Punk Rock, with the feel of such bands as Social Distortion, Dropkick Murphy and Turbonegro. Indeed, the band, consisting of Kim Johansson bass, Pontus Åberg, lead guitar + vocals, Victor Ekvall, guitar + lead vocals, and new, former Collussus drummer, Thomas Norstedt, perform Punk 'n' Roll with straight pipes, a cocky attitude and technical drums, all with a party feeling, plus a love of the Blues thrown in to the mix too!

PG.Lost Oscillate 9/12/20
pel160_cover_digital_hires.jpeg

Swedish Post-Metal/Post-Rock outfit PG.Lost, who feature Mattias Bhatt, Martin Hjertstedt (ex-Ghost), Gustav Almberg (The Great Discord) and Kristian Karlsson (Cult of Luna), have recently shared today's Video Of The Day for ’Shelter’, taken from their latest album, 'Oscillate’, which was released last month via Pelagic Records. Founded in 2004 in Norrköping, the LP is packed to the gills with pure drama and catharsis, and it's their first effort since 2016’s much lauded 'Versus'. 'Oscillate' leans on an instrumental approach and while their keen understanding of tension/release may warrant comparison to the likes of MONO, Explosions in the Sky and Godspeed You! Black Emperor, the band is unafraid to move into exciting new directions. Indeed, it's sovereign in execution and mammoth in scope, with ten tracks of pure dramatic bombast and a massive step forward for the decades-old band. The four years away have been well worth it!

Carpenter Brut Fab Tool 7/12/20
mail-371.jpeg

French Synthwave icon Carpenter Brut has released a brand new single, ‘Fab Tool’, which is today's Track of The Day. Effortlessly combining futuristic Synth sounds with ritualistic undertones and a movie-like expansiveness, ‘Fab Tool’ displays Carpenter Brut at his anthemic, epic best. Thunderous drums and bellowing chants from American musician David Eugene Edwards echo with one another, building towards a colossal and electrifying conclusion. The accompanying video heightens the track's potency, detailing a journey through a dystopian wasteland full of strange creatures, forgotten landmarks and flashes of an unknown danger. Stay tuned for more to come from Carpenter Brut in 2021!

Trailblazing American Rock vocalist and musician Suzi Quatro’s brand new Christmas single, ‘My Heart And Soul (I Need You Home For Xmas)’, was released last Friday on all digital platforms via SPV Records, and the touching, heart-warming video for the song, is today's Track Of The Day. Even in the highly adrenaline-fueled music business, it’s rare to find a bundle of energy and talent on a par with Suzi , the multi-million-selling female Rock pioneer who has enjoyed over 56 years of unrivalled success. With hits such as ‘Can The Can’, ‘48 Crash’, ‘If You Can't Give Me Love’, 'She's In Love With You' and ‘Devil Gate Drive’, she became an icon in the seventies, and remains so to this day. Suzi’s hugely accomplished current album ‘No Control’ was released in March 2019, prior to a sold-out ten date headline UK Arena tour, ensued later in the year by the massively acclaimed documentary ‘Suzi Q The Movie’.
