We're All Alright! 30/4/17

Cheap Trick are an indisputable American institution, beloved around the globe since 1974 for their instantly identifiable, hugely influential, brand of Pop Rock 'n' Roll. The band - Robin Zander (vocals, rhythm guitar), Rick Nielsen (lead guitar), Tom Petersson (bass guitar) and Daxx Nielsen (drums) - are true pioneers with an unparalleled streak of certifiably classic tunes, from ‘He’s A Whore’, ‘California Man’ and ‘Dream Police’ to ‘Surrender’, ‘I Want You To Want Me’ and the worldwide #1 hit single, ‘The Flame’. The Rock & Roll Hall of Famers – whose four decade-plus career has seen them play more than 5,000 shows and counting – will celebrate the release on Friday 16th June of their eagerly awaited new album 'We're All Alright' (Video Of The Day) with a worldwide tour, which includes London's Forum on Tuesday 27th June.

Roadkill BBQ 30/4/17

An old Rock ’n ’Roll proverb says that musicians always have their best inspiration on tour. Since Nitrogods, a Rock trio from Hanover and Stuttgart that has travelled large parts of Europe since 2011, are more or less permanently on tour, they tend to come up with plenty of new ideas all the time. And so their latest (third) album release 'Roadkill BBQ' also has a tour story with a definite sense of black humour that would be impossible to invent: on their way back from a show in France, vocalist/bassist Oimel accidentally ran over a squirrel. Sad for the little rodent, good for the group’s scheduled next record. Because in answer to Oimel’s tongue-in-cheek question what to do next (quote: “Should I call an undertaker or what?”) drummer Klaus Sperling suggested a barbeque party in memory of the incident which ended so tragically for the squirrel. So the title 'Roadkill BBQ' had been born before the first song for the coming album was even written. All animal rights activists rest assured that the unfortunate squirrel was of course not barbequed!

Revolution Come... Revolution Go 29/4/17

Pre-eminent American Rock band Gov't Mule (Track Of The Day) have announced the release of their anticipated 10th studio album 'Revolution Come… Revolution Go', which will be released on Friday 9th June through Spinefarm Records. Steeped in the roots and mystique of Rock, Blues, Soul, Jazz and Country, 'Revolution Come… Revolution Go' enriches Gov’t Mule’s distinguished legacy with cleverly-crafted songs, intelligent and timely lyrical commentary, plus downright incendiary playing, while the depth and breadth of the band’s stunning song-writing is displayed with full force. With Warren  Haynes (guitar/vocals), Matt Abts (drums), Danny Louis (keyboards, guitar and backing vocals) and Jorgen Carlsson (bass) – Gov’t Mule has galvanized a global fan base with their music and improvisational virtuosity, causing them to be recognised as one of the most timeless and active Rock bands in the world.

Farmer Boys Are Back 29/4/17

After over a decade, the chart-breaking Alternative Metal band from Stuttgart are back with the last of their three exclusive shows at the Longhorn in their home town tonight! With the tour under their belt, Farmer Boys will then dive into producing a brand new album, which will be released in Spring 2018. While singer and frontman Matthias Sayer has been busy as a film composer at Hans Zimmer's Remote Control Studios, guitarist Alex Scholpp has been working with famous Finnish artist Tarja Turunen since 2007. Founding member Ralf Botzenhart (bass) together with Richard Düe (keyboard) and Timmy Schreiner (percussion) will complete the band's new line up. Their first release, 'You And Me' (today's Video Of The Day) mixed by Swedish engineer Stefan Glaumann) will give you a powerful first impression of their new work!

Big In London 29/4/17

Danny Bryant and his big band are playing a special show at London's Borderline tonight following the recent release of his double album, 'BIG: Live in Europe' with a nine-piece big band featuring keys and a four piece brass section from  a select run of shows in Europe during January 2017. Meanwhile, King King are also on the road tonight stopping off at The Mick Jagger Centre in Dartford with support from WRC favourites Bad Touch. The tour concludes at Fibbers in York on Sunday 21st May.

Trick Or Treat DVD? 28/4/17

On 23rd April 2016, Treat (VIdeo Of The Day) played a highly anticipated set at the Frontiers Rock Festival, the annual concert event organized by the band’s label, Frontiers Records. Held close to Milano, Italy, this was the third annual edition of the festival and saw Treat playing hot on the heels of the release of their latest studio album, “'Ghost Of Graceland'”. The band took the stage by storm, opening the show with the title track from the new album and showcasing a very special lineup, which featured H.E.A.T. keyboardist Jona Tee taking the place of Patrik Appelgren for this exclusive performance. Treat offered a show with a great mixture of new and recent songs taken from their latest album, the highly regarded 2010 release “'Coup De Grace”' and classic songs from the good ol’ days including “'World Of Promises'”, “'Get You On The Run”' and “'Ready For The Taking”'. Treat’'s performance was truly a unique and special one and their new DVD documents a great moment in the band’'s history as well as serving as a celebration of one of Sweden’'s finest Hard Rock bands ever! The Treat line up was Robert Ernlund: lead vocals, Anders Wikström: lead Guitars and vocals, Pontus Egberg: electric bass and vocals, Jamie Borger: drums with Jona Tee: Keyboards. Watch out for Treat at the Hair Metal Heaven Festival in Hull on Friday 25th August!

Darkness Remains 28/4/17

Mighty classic Metal newcomers Night Demon released their storming second album 'Darkness Remains’' last week on Steamhammer/SPV. ‘Packed with exuberant, hard driving ‘New Wave Of British Heavy Metal’ inspired thrills and chills, it's a much more mature, accomplished offering than its acclaimed predecessor 'Curse Of The Damned’'. Jarvis Leatherby (vocals/bass), Armand John Anthony (guitar), and Dusty Squires (drums), have truly honed their songwriting chops significantly down. Not only has the band’s overall sound matured, but the individual members have carved out their own niches, sharpened their attack, and even taken some chances along the way.  Boasting a full, powerful, and clear production that retains a raw edginess, ‘'Darkness Remains'’ sets the gold standard for how a traditional Metal record should sound in 2017. Following their March/April special guest shows on Anvil’'s 2017 US tour, Night Demon have lined up an extensive headline tour of Europe, culminating with a string of major festival appearances.

Dan Patlansky Interview 27/4/17

Last week in the heart of London, the WRC had the pleasure of interviewing South African Blues Rock guitarist Dan Patlansky and despite a few technical gremlins on our part – the banter flowed and we would like to thank Dan for his time. So read here if you want to find out more about Dan's current tour, his new single and album, problems with his '62 Fender Strat and why Father John Misty is today's Vid Of The Day!

Krysthla Break Into Amazon UK Top 10 27/4/17

Following the recent release of their sophomore album 'Peace In Our Time', UK extreme Metal band Krysthla (Track Of The Day) has broken into Amazon UK's official chart. The new album hit the number two spot, sandwiched between Deep Purple and Mastodon, alongside other new releases by Kreator, While She Sleeps, Bodycount and more. Krysthla's stunning new album has also cracked Amazon's mainstream chart, sitting high in the ranks alongside popular Top 40 artists Justin Timberlake, Bruno Mars, James Blunt and Rag'N'Bone Man. 'Peace In Our Time' is the second album to be released by the Northamptonshire Metal group and follows on from the success of their 2015 debut record 'A War Of Souls And Desires'. Krysthla continue their UK tour at Cardiff's Fuel tomorrow night which concludes with an appearance at Gloucester's Amplified Festival on Saturday 22nd July.

Legacy Of The Beast 27/4/17

Global Rock icons Iron Maiden embarked on the final leg of 'The Book of Souls' world tour last weekend, simultaneously launching a synergistic player-vs-player battle arena for their mobile game, Legacy of the Beast. The game offers players a unique way to interact with the band’s real world activities, by introducing not only a replica of one of the tour stage productions, but also the debut of 'The Book of Souls' Shaman Eddie into the game, in his Mayan themed incarnation as featured on the band’s most recent studio album. Other characters from 'The Book of Souls' are set to follow.

Images, Words & Beyond 26/4/17

"The musicianship was exemplary, as we have come to expect, and it was time to slow things down a bit. John Myung is the quiet man of the band but is up there with the best in terms of his bass playing. This was now showcased in his rendition of a bass composition by Jaco Pastorius called 'Portait of Tracy'. The quiet didn't last too long though as he finished off by launching into 'As I Am'. This is from their most Metal of albums 'Train of Thought' and they never sounded more like Metallica than they did on that album. Just to reinforce that opinion, they even inserted a chorus from 'Enter Sandman' before the end of the song! The conclusion of Act 1 was 'Breaking All Illusions' from drummer Mike Mangini's debut album 'A Dramatic Turn of Events'. Time for a breather!"

Dan Patlansky On Route 66 26/4/17

On today's Route 66 Track Of The Day, host Rory Auskerry chats to Dan Patlansky (pictured) ahead of his UK tour in May. Indeed the WRC will be at Islington's O2 Academy next Tuesday 2nd May to see Dan and watch out tomorrow for our own recent interview with Dan. Also on the show there are new tracks from Dave Hunt, Roger Waters and Brothers Osbourne.

Wilko And In! 26/4/17

2017 is certainly a special year for Wilko Johnson. Not only does it mark the 30th anniversary of the Wilko Johnson Band, but this year sees the guitarist celebrating his 70th birthday, which he celebrates with a concert at the Royal Albert Hall on Tuesday 26th September. Given the events of recent years, this celebration at the Royal Albert Hall is all the more meaningful: the death-defying Johnson leading his own party with partners in crime Norman Watt-Roy (bass), Dylan Howe (drums), family, friends and special guests.

JB Master Class 25/4/17

"The band and Joe are exceptional on a number of the songs such as 'How Deep This River Runs’, where to single out the backing singers are in such fine voice. And also with ‘Love Ain’t  A Love Song’, where Joe’s ability to build a song into a crescendo of sheer noise and fun is exactly what we love about him. Half of the songs were covers of Joe's guitar heroes such as B.B. King and Eric Clapton (obviously!) and I particularly enjoyed his faultless cover of EC's sleek ‘Pretending’ which becomes the launch pad for an incomprehensible six string showcase while drummer Anton Fig and the cheerleading brass section lead the audience in keeping time."

Triggerfinger Sign To Mascot 25/4/17

Multi-award winning threepiece Triggerfinger (Video Of The Day) has signed with Mascot Records. One of Belgium’s finest guitar bands, Triggerfinger is currently finalizing the successor of their successful album ‘By Absence Of The Sun’, due for worldwide release after the Summer. The band will then start a European tour following the release of their fifth studio album, from September onwards. Imagine three sharp dressed man, in suits, with the boldness of Motörhead, Marc Bolan’s grooves and Chuck Berry’s relentlessness. The result? Triggerfinger, a well maintained riff-machine but also Europe’s very best kept secret - a band that has developed the hard way; years of touring clubs, pubs and festivals and dives of Europe have bred a fierce, unique and raw sound.

Rockin' Out On The Ridge 25/4/17

Today's 2016 WRC Award winning Rock On The Ridge Track Of The Day features tracks from Mount Holly, We Three Kings, The Black Jackals, 42 Decibe, Crobot (pictured), Godsmack, Shaman's Harvest, JacksonHewitt, Kingcrow, Roving Crows, Florence Black, Pearl Handled Revolver, IronPig, CrowBlackChicken, Will Wilde, Troy Redfern, Molly Hatchet, The Irontown Diehards, Praying Mantis and on their introducing stage, two in a row from local band StoneWire.

At The Top Of Their Game 24/4/17

"Maxwell's pounding drum heralded another Matthews composition - the boppin' 'Bad Boy' - which saw some more scintillating Krissy fretwork, before the band closed the set with two covers - Hendrix's 'Freedom' - now back as a staple on their live set list and obviously a favourite with Matthews, as this guitar tribute to Jimi truly demonstrated, and finally a cover of Muddy Waters 'I'm Ready' to round off a thoroughly enjoyable gig in a proper pucker Rock pub. To the chagrin of the guy standing to the right of us - ironically there was no time for 'Time Machine' - nor disappointingly for mine did they play the stand-out from 'LAFV' 'Bubbles And The Seven Phones'. But, hey, at the end of day this was an archetypal Blues Rock Power trio at their raw best and at the top of their game without JB's bells and whistles. With two more UK dates, Fuel Cardiff tonight and The Arches Coventry this Thursday, The Krissy Matthews Band European tour finishes appropriately in Germany on Saturday 20th May. Prost!"

Kadavar To Headline In London 24/4/17

The last time we saw Berlin-based trio Kadavar (Vid Of The Day) was when they double headlined with Blues Pills at London's Koko last November (pictured).  The riff-lords have announced a headline show at London's The Dome on Saturday 30th September plus they will also bring the fuzz to the North when they play Sheffield's HRH Doom Vs Stoner Festival the following day. Kadavar are also currently working on their fourth studio album, the follow up to their acclaimed 2015 album 'Berlin'.

The Unity 23/4/17

The Unity, the vital new band formed by Gamma Ray members Michael Ehré (drums) and Henjo Richter (guitar), have signed to Steamhammer/SPV to release their consummate, utterly compelling debut album as a digipak CD (with poster), double gatefold 180 gram vinyl (with printed inner sleeves and CD in a cardboard case) plus as a download on Friday 5th May. Richter has been part of the Hamburg Power Metal outfit for some twenty years, while Ehré’s CV includes – prior to his joining the Gamma Ray fold in 2012 – renowned names such as Firewind, Uli Jon Roth and Unisonic.

Dream Theater At Apollo Tonight! 23/4/17

"And so to Main Stage headliners Dream Theater. If technical Progressive Metal is your thing then this lot are the genre leaders. If, however, you desire a party band to bring High Voltage to its natural conclusion then the US act are wholly unsuitable. File under ‘opinion divided’." That was our take the last time we saw Dream Theater at High Voltage in July 2011 (Vid Of The Day) - but we are sure that opinions won't be as divided tonight as some WRC members are off to see them perform at London's Hammersmith Apollo!

Last Great Dreamers At O2 Academy Islington Tonight 23/4/17

Last Great Dreamers are currently special guests on a UK tour with The Quireboys and they are on stage at London's O2 Academy, Islington, at around 8pm tonight. Possibly one of the most essential British Rock bands of recent times, so catch them live and they promise “you won’t regret it!” Their latest album 'Transmissions From Oblivion' is an energetic yet sensitive album that celebrates music and storytelling, with 14 finely crafted songs overflowing with Rock ’n Roll attitude, emotion and glamour which includes the singles 'Glitterball Apocalypse', which documents the tragedies of Rock 'n Roll, the raucous 'Dope School' (Track Of The Day) and the flamboyant yet urgent Power-Pop classic 'Oblivion Kids'.

It's Record Store Day! 22/4/17

Record Store Day was conceived in 2007 at a gathering of independent record store owners and employees as a way to celebrate and spread the word about the unique culture surrounding nearly 1400 independently owned record stores in the US and thousands of similar stores internationally. The first Record Store Day took place on 19th April 2008. Today there are Record Store Day participating stores on every continent except Antarctica. Indeed Big Machine Label Group’s A Thousand Horses (pictured) and The Cadillac Three (Video Of The Day) have announced they will both have special, limited-edition vinyl releases today. A Thousand Horses will be releasing 'Live From London' and The Cadillac Three will be releasing 'Live At Abbey Road'.

Happier Times 21/4/17

Is it really eight years since Joe Bonamassa's very first Royal Albert Hall gig? Last night we returned to the scene of that triumph and once again were blown away by this now world-renowned platinum-selling and Grammy nominated Blues-Rock singer-songwriter and guitarist. With a review and more pics to come - check out today's Vid Of The Day. In the meantime we also have our Krissy Matthews photo gallery here from his Fiddler's Elbow gig from Wednesday night and did we mention that we are back at the RAH again tonight for a second spoonful of JB!

Broken Machine Released Today 21/4/17

"I find it hard to listen to this style of electric guitar driven Blues Rock without making comparisons to one of my heroes Mr. Joe Bonamassa, who, without doubt is one of the best guitarists I have ever seen. I would find it hard to believe that Ash wasn't influenced by him for track five 'Words Of A Woman'. It has a great sound, with strong lyrics revolving around a woman's troubles when her husband leaves ("Does She Have To Start Again"). A great ballad with an excellent solo from Ash at the end, definitely my favourite song on the album." That was part of our take on Ash Wilson's new album 'Broken Machine' which is released today and is also our Track Of The Day.

And tonight they are back at Wokingham Music Club, with support from Chris Trim, to celebrate the Club's fifth birthday! There are only a few tickets left at £13 with proceedings kicking off at 7.30pm.

Live At The Fiddler's Elbow! 20/4/17

Just five days after the launch of his 'Live At Freak Valley' CD - Krissy Matthews was live at The Fiddler's Elbow in Camden last night. Originally from Oxford, Krissy’s band has often been described as an exciting, high octane, Power Rock trio steeped in Blues roots. 24 year old Matthews has performed at some of Europe’s most iconic music venues including Ronnie Scott’s, Loreley, Tanzbrunnen and Festa Avante. He’s also opened for many high profile recording artists at the top of their game including Joe Bonamassa, Toto, Gregg Allman and Tedeschi Trucks Band. Anyway, with a review and more pics to come - check out today's Vid Of The Day.

Joe Bonamassa Live At Carnegie Hall 20/4/17

In January 2016, world-renowned platinum-selling and Grammy nominated Blues-Rock singer-songwriter and guitarist Joe Bonamassa performed two unique all-acoustic shows at the iconic Carnegie Hall in New York City. Both performances were filmed and made into 'Joe Bonamassa Live At Carnegie Hall - An Acoustic Evening', which will be released on CD, DVD, Blu-ray and Vinyl on Friday 23rd June. Joe's band consisted of Reese Wynans (piano), Anton Fig (drums) Eric Bazilian (mandolin, hurdy-gurdy, saxophone, acoustic guitar, vocals), and three Australian backing vocalists, Mahalia Barnes, Juanita Tippins and Gary Pinto - on an evening of extraordinary music with new arrangements of favourite songs as well as brand new, never-before-heard songs. And we're also off to see JB (pictured by Lucy Stillwell at Newark Castle last year) at London's Royal Albert Hall tonight!

Joe Jammer At Eel Pie Tonight 20/4/17

Joe Jammer's All-Star Chicago Blues Revue will be at The Eel Pie Club, The Patch, 67 London Road TW1 3SZ tonight featuring some great Blues musicians and vocalists,  both entertaining and fun. Originally from Chicago, Joe Jammer was live guitarist for Supertramp, Screaming Lord Sutch, Paladin, Stealers Wheel, Donna Summer and Maggie Bell. He was also the founding member of The Olympic Runners, Jam Master for Buddy Guy's Original Checkerboard Lounge, Chicago Jam Master at The Speakeasy, London and session guitarist for Mick Jagger, Joe Cocker, Ringo Starr, Jerry Lee Lewis and Oprah Winfrey. Doors open at 8.30pm with music from  9-11pm. WRC members are reminded that they can use their cards to get discounted admission.

Krissy At Fiddler's Elbow Tonight! 19/4/17

"Matthews then poses the question: "Siegen - are you ready to rock" - as another self-penned Blues Rock corker 'Language By Injection' - written about a night out in Poland when touring - nudge nudge wink wink - delivers as promised. Krissy then shares a special personal moment with Freak Valley - "Seven years ago I was very lucky to meet the King of the Blues - Mr. B.B. King - and this is a song I wrote later that night" - cue 'The Soul Will Never Die' including both a two minute opening guitar solo that the great man - God bless him - would have been proud of - plus another towards the end which hears the German crowd roar with approval."

That was part of our recent take on Krissy Matthews album 'Live At Freak Valley' - and we are off to see the man himself live at The Fiddler's Elbow in London's Camden tonight. Prost!

Dan Patlansky UK Tour 19/4/17

With two gigs under his belt already (see today's Vid Of The Day), South African Blues Rock guitarist Dan Patlansky continues his headline tour at London's O2 Islington Academy on Tuesday 2nd May. A man who has opened for Bruce Springsteen in front of 64,000 people and who's last release 'Introvertigo' was voted number one Blues Rock album by Blues Rock Review USA last year - we had the pleasure of interviewing Dan in London yesterday ahead of his gig. Anyway, watch out for that interview coming soon!

Live At Nectar's 19/4/17

The legacy of legendary Soul Jazz guitarist Melvin Sparks will be celebrated on Friday 28th April with the release of 'Live At Nectar's (Track Of The Day) on One Note Records. Texas-born Melvin Sparks was a Rhythm & Blues guitarist at the outset of his career, backing Jackie Wilson, Curtis Mayfield and Marvin Gaye as a member of The Upsetters. He gave up his seat on The Upsetters' bus when a chance introduction to George Benson inspired him to relocate to New York City; a decision that would ultimately pave the way for his ascension into the Soul Jazz pantheon.

Sun Stroke Heart 18/4/17

New Hard Rock Blues band Samarkind's lead single 'Sun Stroke Heart' (Vid Of The Day) doesn't miss a beat. Wasting no time introducing itself with locked down grooves, layers of quality soundscapes and stunning, memorable melody hooks weaving a tapestry throughout the track. Classic yet undeniably modern in its delivery, this is a true musical treat for Rock fans. The multi-national group, which features charismatic Irish frontman David Paul Byrne (formally singer for successful Hard Rock band Assassin and featured vocalist on '80's cult movie 'Trick Or Treat' starring Ozzy Osbourne and Gene Simmons), showcase sublime vocals which are accompanied by the talents of sensational Polish guitarist Michal Kulbaka, Ireland's Mark Dempsey on bass guitar and South African born drummer Marius Appelgryn. Recorded at Westland Studio in Dublin with producer Alwyn Walker, Samarkind are currently putting the final touches to their debut album, with a release date set to be announced for later this year.

Band Of Brothers 18/4/17

"After being annoyed by the local accordion player we wandered off in search of new refreshment and settled down in a nice corner outside the American LePub. After a short while, a 'Vision' appeared walking towards us and nudging AJ and rubbing my eyes "Is that Wes Scantlin - lead singer and Mr Puddle Of Mudd – Nah it can't be we’re not that lucky!" Sitting down in our opposite corner the 'Vision' relaxed (with a rather nicer female vision) and we both agreed that this was indeed Wes himself! Not wanting to interrupt a Rock God ourselves, Denis decided he’d go and do 'An Idiot Abroad' bit and investigate and promptly came back with Wes himself who recognised us Wrinklys from the last gig (and the one before) and was happy to sit and chat!!!! So there we were, the Wrinklys and Wesley 'Scantdog' Scantlin sitting down and chatting about the band and the present tour."

That was part of Wrinkly The Silver Fox's Puddle Of Mudd Amsterdam review just under five year's ago. So we are understandably devastated to report that our mate Denis (small guy pictured second right) passed away on Sunday. You might have rocked out for the last time Denis, but all those great memories will never be taken away mate. RIP Denis.

Honeymoon Period Over 18/4/17

And talking of mates, Route 66 host Rory Auskerry is back from his honeymoon and he's launched the mother of all Track Of The Day's today. This marks the release of her first new full album since 2011’s 'ProWoah' EP.  The new album sees the celebrated Soul, Funk and Blues singer, dipping her toes in a refreshing collection of songs backed by a luscious string quartet. Nikka, best known for 2001 album 'Everybody Got Their Something' which featured the hit single 'Like A Feather', is back in full swing with a collection of heartfelt songs that gives listeners an intimate and personal insight into her unique musical style than ever before. To coincide with the news of the new album, Nikka has released an official music video for her new single 'Nothing Compares 2 U' - which is today's Vid Of The Day.

The Ballads V 17/4/17

German virtuoso Heavy Metal guitarist Axel Rudi Pell, who has been a leading light on the European Melodic Metal scene for well over three decades and sold more than 1.5 million albums, released a brand new digital single 'Love’s Holding On’', featuring special guest star Bonnie Tyler, on Steamhammer/SPV at the end of March. 'Love’s Holding On’', containing a stunning duet between Bonnie and long-time Axel Rudi Pell band singer Johnny Gioeli, is one of four new recordings included on ‘'Ballads V’', part five of his successful ongoing ballad compilation album series, due out this Friday 21st April.

Bumper Packed With Blues 17/4/17

This week's Black On Blues Track Of The Day includes music from Bumper Jackons, Vintage 18, Steve Kozak Band,

TG Swampbusters, Trampled Under Foot, James O’Hara and Coco Montoya.

100 Hearts 16/4/17

"Erja appeared to have a permanent smile on her face during the set and it was clearly apparent that the band were really enjoying the moment despite the discourteous chit-chat from the back of the 100 Club which you could clearly hear during the set's softer moments. For God's sake - why don't you shut the f**k up? As for the Blues Police in the crowd checking out the new album - Erja belted out the title track 'Stolen Hearts', again demonstrating both her strong vocals and fret board skills with a subtle hint of Hendrix. The definitive downbeat Blues track 'Slowly Burning' - was another opportunity for Erja to take it out on her Fender Strat with a smooth controlled vocal delivery given the song's emotional context."

No Worries 16/4/17

A new video has been released for Sammy Hagar's latest album 'When The Party Started' - which has been out in the US since late November last year and has been out in the UK since the end of March this year on Mailboat/Membran. The new compilation includes two unreleased songs  ‘No Worries’ (Vid Of The Day)  and ‘Never Said Goodbye’. Hagar recently said "With this collection, I wanted to revisit what I feel are the best songs I wrote during the second wave. I’d left Van Halen and formed the Wabos as an alternative to the superstar, high-pressure, commercial machine that I’d been living in since I joined Montrose in 1972. These albums, ‘Red Voodoo’ (1999), ‘Ten 13’ (2000) and ‘Livin’ It Up’ (2006), represent the first time I was free from the pressures of putting out a major label release in 25 years. Musically, I needed to shake it up and fall in love with making music again."

Cellar Darling 16/4/17

Switzerland's folk rock rising stars Cellar Darling (Track Of The Day) are due to embark on their debut UK show supporting Delain at London's Koko on Wednesday 1st November. After their split with EluveitieE, Anna Murphy, Ivo Henzi and Merlin Sutter reached out for new shores in 2016 and are now ready to see the world through their eyes with their unique and fresh sound, combining grand and heavy riffs, energetic drumming and a unique voice with the signature folky, earthy tones of the hurdy gurdy and classical elements - creating something entirely new, while continuing the spirit of musical innovation they have become known for. Cellar Darling are in the studio now finishing up their debut album due for release via Nuclear Blast this Summer.

Rebels Touch 15/4/17

"And what better song title for a band with Zep influences than 'Heartbreaker Soulshaker' - all about being a free spirit - a much funkier track with some awesome guitar work from clean cut, bespectacled, Slater, which was followed by another from 'Truth Be Told' - all about love unrequited - albeit not as heavy as the previous two but nevertheless another powerful vocal performance from the hatted/moustachioed  Stevie Westwood that well and truly got 'Under My Skin'. It was back then to a trilogy from 'HWH' - dipping into the foot stompin' singalong 'Wise Water' featuring Slater's slide guitar and Westwood's tambourine, the riff ridden 'Sweet Little Secret' complemented by its obligatory singalong and finally 'Words I Never Said' - with its delightful opening guitar solo where we saw Classic Rock at its undoubted head-banging best."

Michael Schenker Fest 15/4/17

Following his recent release of 'Michael Schenker Fest Live', the celebrated Rock guitarist has announced that he will be touring “Michael Schenker Fest” throughout the UK in November 2017 including  London's O2 Shepherd’'s Bush Empire on Thursday 2nd November. In recent memory, Michael Schenker’'s endeavor to unite Rock fans together at his concerts has enraptured his audiences and so it is fitting that his most recent concept of ‘Michael Schenker Fest’ does not disappoint one bit! The project reunites the original Michael/McAuley Schenker Group vocalists –Gary Barden, Graham Bonnet and Robin McAuley, plus MSG musicians Steve Mann (guitar, keys), Chris Glen (bass) and Ted McKenna (drums).

The Devil's In The Detail 15/4/17

Texas based singer/songwriter Ryan Hamilton and his band The Traitors released their new album 'The Devil’s In The Detail' last week, following their eight date sold out  UK tour. 'The Devil’s In The Detail'  is an uplifting and energetic, yet sensitive album, that celebrates music and storytelling. Thee twelve finely crafted songs clearly represent Ryan Hamilton and The Traitors distinctive mix of melodic Pop and Rock as per the infectious single 'Heavy Heart' - today's Track Of The Day. Aside from Ryan, the album features UK musicians, including Ginger Wildheart – who handpicked Ryan & The Traitors as his main tour support in 2016 and plays lead guitar on the majority of the tracks. Scottish singer/songwriter Chrissy Barnacle also provides velvety backing vocals and duets on 'Don’t Say I Told You So'. Full of melody and charm with no reliance on nostalgia 'The Devil’s In The Detail' is an aural treat and truly deserves a place in your heart!

Live At Freak Valley Out Today! 14/4/17

The Krissy Matthews Band continue their UK tour at London's Fiddler's Elbow this Wednesday following  the release today of their first live album 'Live At Freak Valley'. You can read AJ's complete take on their new live CD here plus check out today's Vid Of The Day with Krissy recently performing with Maggie Bell no less.

Slim Chance At Half Moon Tonight 14/4/17

"Two more Faces songs penned by Lane rounded off the set - another from 'ANIAGAAW' - 'You're So Rude' - originally sung by Ronnie but with vocals from Steve - with Charlie's accordion now in overdrive plus another blistering guitar solo from Steve - and the title track of The Faces last album 'Ooh La La' - which according to Ian McLagan, "was Ronnie Lane's album" with Simpson on vocals and mandolin plus a keys solo from Watkins which McLagan would no doubt have savoured. A cracking encore of Louis Prima's 'Buona Sera Signorina' a tango that rocked which belied its sixty years vintage was the last opportunity for the boys to excel with Geraint on keys/vocals plus final solos from Charlie (fiddle) and Steve (guitar). Talking to Charlie after the show he said "I thought the lads gave it their all as usual so its a band I'm proud to be part of." Just goes to show Charlie that class is permanent. No doubt Ronnie would be proud of you all mate."

That was part of AJ's take on Slim Chance at Twickenham's Eel Pie Club last August and the guys return to London's Half Moon in Putney tonight.

No Smoke Without Fire 13/4/17

"Half way through their set they delivered a very tasty meat in their sandwich with 'Sleeping Dogs' from 'TW' - beautifully elongated with a jam medley of Zeps 'Your Time Is Gonna Come', The Allman Brothers ‘Mountain Jam’ with Starr and Jackson's jousting guitars being joined by Still on Yes’s ‘Starship Trooper' - it just does not get much better than that - real music y'all! We were then 'Shakin' Hands With The Holy Ghost', its cajun style opening riff, pounding drums and harmonies - a fan's favourite from 'TW' - which had hands clapping before it led into the title track, the distinctive intro of the slower Floyd flavoured 'The Whipoorwill', once again demonstrating that these guys can turn their talents to anything. Loved it."

Erja Lyytinen At 100 Club Tonight 11/4/17

"The "Finnish slide goddess" recorded the album in her homeland but it was mastered by the Master in London's Air Studios. And it's a slick production. Whilst known as a Blues artist, Erja has incorporated elements of many other styles in an album that is therefore a mix of tastes. And with lyrical themes that transcend all ages there's something in it for everyone." That was part of Mother's recent take on Erja Lyytinen's new CD 'Stolen Hearts' and the WRC are off to Erja's album launch tonight at London's iconic 100 Club. Yesterday, we also had the privilege of seeing Erja perform a private unplugged set at Soho's Ain't Nothing But Blues venue (Vid Of The Day/picture John Bull).

Borderline Photo Gallery 10/4/17

On a beautiful sunny evening in London, it seemed a bit of a shame to delve down into The Borderline's newly refurbished basement last Saturday night. However, the musical fayre served up by both Bad Touch and Broken Witt Rebels more than made that decision the right one. A good gathering including Jack J Hutchinson and Geoff Carne witnessed the final gig of their Planet Rock Roadstar's double headliner tour with, on this occasion, Bad Touch on first followed by BWR. With a review to come, check out today our photo gallery from the night here.

Remembering Lonnie Brooks 10/4/17

Today's Black On Blues Track Of The Day is another Blues women special, although the show is dedicated to Lonnie Brooks who recently  passed away on 1st April. This week's playlist includes Annie Mack, Jenn Beaupre, Laura Cheadle, Jesse Galante, Annee 2CU, Hurricane Ruth, Kate Lush and of course Lonnie Brooks.

Borderline Roadstars 9/4/17

The first time we saw Bad Touch was last December at The Dome in Tufnell Park - for the launch of their new album 'Truth Be Told'. At the newly refurbished Borderline in London last night there was no such supporting role as the guys were on the double headlining Planet Rock Roadstars tour with Broken Witt Rebels - another up and coming band who we originally showcased in our 'Introducing ....' feature in September 2015. This was also the first time we had seen 20-year-old guitar virtuoso Harry Slater as Bad Touch's new lead guitarist - who replaced original guitarist Rob Glendinning and who had actually suggested Slater as his successor. Watch out for more pics and a review, but in the meantime check out today's Vid Of The Day.

Metallica European Tour 9/4/17

Metallica recently announced the European leg of their WorldWired Tour in support of their new album 'Hardwired… To Self-Destruct'. The tour kicks off with two shows in Amsterdam at the Ziggo Dome on Monday 4th and Wednesday 6th September plus two shows at London's O2 Arena on Sunday 22nd and Tuesday 24th October. Norway’s Kvelertak will be support for the tour run.

Hugh Coltman, Steve Williams, Glen Coleman, Big Black Bible Blues Band, Malcolm Holman, Bumper Jacksons, Eric Bibb, Lil Chuck, The One Man Skiffle Machine, Jeff Michaels, The Strait Shooters, Pierce Edens, Broken Levee, Adrienna Marie and Her Roomful of All Stars, The Original Chicago Blues Allstars, Johnny Coyote, Victor T Deluxe, Lauren Ivy and The Engine, Jim Gustin and Truth Jones plus a tribute to Lonnie Brooks and Muddy Waters as well as a few from the forthcoming European Blues Awards.

Roadstars Arrive In London Tonight 8/4/17

"'Healing Hand' - about friendship, tolerance and forgiveness - (these guys are obviously deep thinkers) - builds nicely into a riff driven finale and the album's high standard is maintained and perhaps even bettered with 'The Mountain'. More boundary-stretching from Bad Touch in this beautifully crafted track which is not only heavy in its genre but also its message about the sustainability of our planet and our collective responsibility with pollution. All in all a delightful album that takes many positive twists and turns that takes Bad Touch well outside the constraints of their supposed genre." That was part of AJ's take on Bad Touch's recent CD 'Truth Be Told' and the band are at London's Borderline tonight with Broken Witt Rebels as part of  Planet Rock's Roadstars tour.

Damian Wilson Leaves Threshold 8/4/17

Threshold (Vid Of The Day) have parted ways with vocalist Damian Wilson. Wilson enjoyed three stints with Threshold, performing on the band's most recent records 'For The Journey' and 'March Of Progress' as well as their early releases 'Wounded Land' and 'Extinct Instinct' in the 1990's. Threshold's new frontman will be Glynn Morgan, the band's former vocalist from 1994 to 1996. Morgan appeared on Threshold's 1994 album 'Psychedelicatessen' and returned to work with the band in 2008 to record tracks for the singles box set 'Paradox'. Threshold are currently at Thin Ice Studios recording their 11th album 'Legends Of The Shires' due for release in the autumn. The band's European tour kicks off in November with support from Damnation Angels and Day Six.

The King's Parade 8/4/17

Today's Track Of The Day is London quartet The King’s Parade and their new single ‘Haze’. The band bridge between classic Blues and carefully crafted Alt-Pop and are similar to the likes of Alabama Shakes, The Black Keys and Leon Bridges. ‘Haze’ is the first taste of new music following the band’s 2015 debut EP 'Vagabond', which saw The King’s Parade build a fervent fanbase. The band have previously sold out headline shows at London’s Hoxton Bar & Kitchen, Oslo and held a residency at the legendary Ronnie Scott’s. They’ve also become a strong live draw in Germany, selling out headline shows across the country.

Dark, Hot & Sweaty 7/4/17

"Main Event" of the night is the amazingly talented, and very young Aaron Keylock. Still only a teenager, the slightly built unassuming looking lad has exploded onto the scene and he exploded onto the stage to the rather unusual sound of jungle drums. With his long hair, playing style and Les Paul shaped guitar, he bares more than a passing resemblance to one James Page Esq. More of those guitars shortly. Having played with Blackberry Smoke, The Cadillac Three, Tracer, The Graveltones and The Answer and supported the likes of Joanne Shaw Taylor, Aaron has some pedigree to bring to the Camden Massif. Tonight is about promoting and playing his new album 'Cut Against The Grain', written by himself and produced by Fabrizio Grossi."

Book Of Souls - Final Leg 6/4/17

Iron Maiden's recent and continued efforts to safeguard their fans against touting and counterfeiting ahead of 2017’s The Book Of Souls UK arena tour has been hailed a triumph by fans, promoters and legitimate ticketing sites. By implementing an extensive “Paperless Ticketing” policy and ensuring all other available tickets would carry the name of the purchaser and would also require the purchaser’s credit card and ID on entry, amongst other measures, the number of tickets available at inflated prices on the secondary platforms plummeted by over 95% compared with the band’s last UK arena tour in 2011. 'The Book Of Souls Tour' resumes with a series of arena shows opening in Sportpalais, Antwerp, Belgium on Saturday 22nd April and continuing into Germany, UK and Ireland, finishing with two sold-out shows at London’s O2 Arena over the weekend of 27th & 28th May. The band then flies to the U.S.A  for an extensive series of arena and amphitheatre shows including dates in Canada, ending with two nights in Brooklyn, New York on 21st & 22nd July.

Rise Up 5/4/17

"The title track 'Rise Up' with its opening line of "Wake Up And Open Your Eyes" sets out the message for this song very early, which is go for your dreams and don't get pulled down. The longest song here finds the time for a psychedelic middle section complete with female backing vocal harmonies to accompany it's consistent soulful groove. My personal favourite 'Waiting On You' is next, a very smooth understated track which builds nicely from a great opening guitar and soft vocals into an excellent song which would be at home on any late night radio station or maybe a future (sadly not) Amy Winehouse album. An optimistic song, tinged with sadness. A terrific song."

You can read the whole of Phil C's review of The Rainbreakers new EP 'Rise Up' that's due to be released this Friday here. Also check out today's Vid Of The Day plus don't forget that the guys are supporting Danny Bryant at Bilston's Robin 2 tonight!

Vive La France 5/4/17

Just twelve days after their storming London Borderline show, Sari Schorr & The Engine Room's European tour stopped off at L'Arcadium in Annnecy, France last Saturday night - and Swiss WRC member Marlène Rivet (who was also at the London show) was there again as her great photo of Sari testifies. Marlène also got to chat with the band after the show and tonight the guys return to the UK with a gig at Southampton's Talking Heads!

It's All About The Harmonica 5/4/17

On today's Route 66 Track Of The Day, host Rory Auskerry plays Blues & Rock tracks featuring superb harmonica playing including Black Sabbath (pictured), Blackfoot, Led Zeppelin and the J Geils Band. There's also music from Dave Hunt, Ben Harper and Charlie Musselwhite, Blues 'N' Trouble, John Mayall and more.

Aaron Keylock Headlining Camden Tonight 4/4/17

Following tours in late 2016 with Wilko Johnson, Joanne Shaw Taylor and SIMO (pictured), Aaron Keylock is headlining The Black Heart in Camden, London, tonight before playing Sheffield's HRH Blues Fest on Sunday 16th April and Ramblin’ Man Fair on Sunday 30th July. Accordingly, today's Vid Of The Day is his new video for the acoustic version of ‘No Matter What The Cost’, taken from his acclaimed January debut album ‘Cut Against the Grain’, of which we originally reviewed here.

Will Johns At TNMC Tonite 4/4/17

Recognised as one of the most distinctive and exciting performers on the British Blues scene today, Will Johns is performing tonight at the Tuesday Night Music Club,  Hooley Village Club, St. Margarets Road, Hooley Village, CR5 3RB. His guitar playing is both modern and cutting edge but also steeped in the Blues history passed from generation to generation. Most recently we witnessed him playing a blinder at Shepherd's Bush Empire alongside Mick Taylor at The 2016 WRC Award winning 'An Evening For Jack'.

Happy 6th Birthday! 4/4/17

2016 WRC Award winning Rock On The Ridge celebrated their sixth birthday on last Saturday night's show - today's Track Of The Day. As usual they did it in style with music from Adrenaline Mob, Royal Thunder, Like A Storm, He Is Legend, Mason Hill, Basement Saints, Crown of Thorns, The Lone Crows, Jukebox Monkey, Young Guns, Black Country Communion, Slydes, One Man Revival, The Mission, 100 Watt Vipers, Puppet Kings, Black Rose Cadillac, Bedrokk, RavenEye, Uriah Heep (pictured) and on their introducing stage they had two in a row from Rory Indiana.

Who Are You Listening To? 3/4/17

"Next, it's time to break out the horn section for the title song 'Honest Man'. A personal song, telling of the artists struggles to make his own way in life ("Everybody's Just Serving Themselves, Nobody's Got Time fFor An Honest Man"). It's a great song with a great vocal and one of the album's highlights.  The penultimate song 'Who Are You Listening To?' is the most uptempo Rocky track on the album in which - through the catchy melody and chorus, we are encouraged not to believe the media hype and make up our own minds - he probably wrote this with politics in mind, but the same context could definitely be used in relation to today's music scene. Another top track."

As well as embarking on a solo UK and European Tour this May and June (pictured), Matt Andersen today releases his new single 'Who Are You Listening to?' (Vid Of The Day) and 'Honest Man', which we originally reviewed as part of his whole new album here.

I Need Someone 3/4/17

Following the publication of our April WRC Bulletiin, it was great to hear back from our mate Vic Johnson of The Pieces Of Mind on their news that they are currently riding high at number 18 in the 365 Radio Network Top 20 Charts (pictured) with 'I Need Someone'. We first introduced you to The Pieces Of Mind in February 2015 when the band celebrated their 50th anniversary with a great new album of original stuff entitled 'Born At The Bosco'. Since then they were featured in June 2016 on BBC Four’s 'The UK’s Best Part-Time Band' and the guys are also playing the  Brentwood Festival on Sunday 16th July supporting Midge Ure , Heaven 17 and Go West which takes place that weekend in aid of charity. So why not get along and see the band who shared the stage with David Bowie and Billy Fury as well as The Who during their performance at the Coed Eva Community College in 1966!

3.2.1... Go Blues! 3/4/17

Today's Black On Blues Track Of The Day features 61 Ghosts, Jim Gustin & Truth Jones, The Mustangs, Big Wolf Band (pictured), Mick Clarke and Rocky Athas.

Second Skin 1/4/17

'Second Skin”', due to be released on Friday 12th May, is the hotly anticipated second effort from super group Snakecharmer (Vid Of The Day). Slightly harder edged compared to their debut, but with roots still firmly planted in Bad Company, early Whitesnake and a hint of late 70's AOR, this new record sounds strong, passionate, rocking and Blues-laden. The band was originally founded in 2011 by former Whitesnake members guitarist Micky Moody and bass guitarist Neil Murray along with guitarist Laurie Wisefield (Wishbone Ash), drummer Harry James (Thunder, Magnum), keyboardist Adam Wakeman (Ozzy Osbourne) and vocalist Chris Ousey (Heartland). In 2016, Moody left the band and was replaced by Irish born Simon McBride on lead guitar. Snakecharmer embark on an eleven date UK tour which begins a week before the release of their new album.
