Patlansky/Marriott Gig Review 26/3/18
"Patlansky's anecdote that the youthful Gatza would have probably been listening with his parents to the Backstreet Boys as he grew up, as opposed to Patlansky's parents listening to BB King in Dan's formative years, lead us into a cover of the great man's 'You Upset Me' before they returned to 'PF' and the mellow 'Mayday' with its slow, smooth, late night Blues feel, complete again with a building Floyd sounding guitar solo which not only showed the amazing versatility of Patlansky, but also, unfortunately highlighted the chatter going on at the back of the venue. Why not join our campaign?: #shutthefuckup 'Too Far Gone' - ironically a protest song from 'PK' about the state of our planet and what we are doing to it - saw solidarity from Gatza, rightly back on his feet again, well supported by Patlansky's fuzzy wah guitar, before Dehmel's drum intro on Introvertigo's first single and upbeat Blues of 'Stop The Messin' had Patlansky again growling out the lyrics, his vocal edginess to his Blues not only matched by his undeniable fret skills, but also his interplay with Gatza's keyboards delighting The Borderline faithful."

Jackaman Photo Gallery 25/3/18
"For the next section of the set we got 'On My Own Stage', then 'Red House Down', and finally the snarling 'Supernasty' which was delivered with panache and attitude! The horn section adding that authentic Muscle Shoals soul vibe through out the set. Returning to the stage for the exquisite 'Nothing But My Records On' to complete the evening’s musical journey. Through out the set Lynne's vocals transcended time and space, soaring to the highest reaches of the vocal register with complete control, then dipping down low and gravely with a vibrant wailing intensity only really heard from the true legendary greats of Soul music."
That was part of Steven C. Gilbert's recent Jackaman review from London's The Half Moon, Putney, here, and as promised, today we have Bruce Biege's Photo Gallery here.

Rockin' The Blues Review 24/3/18
"Sandwiched in between Hoey and Gales was the US future of the Blues, namely 18 year old (yes, seriously) child prodigy Quinn Sullivan. Unlike, Hoey, Gales and Lopez, this was the first time I had seen Quinn live - although I'd already liked what I heard - and in particular his last album 'Midnight Highway'. "Hello England" Quinn greeted the audience as his fresh faced young band opened with two cracking tracks off the aforementioned 'MH', namely 'Lifting Off' and 'Crazy Into You'. Further comparisons to Laurence Jones were inevitable, given both tracks "Crossover Blues" feel or 'Blues Rock Lite" as some might call it - with their refreshing Pop feel. My initial reaction to the opening chords of Hendrix's 'Little Wing' was that Gales would not be covering it tonight - but if you were in any doubt that this boy could nail the whole Blues spectrum, then Sullivan's awesome guitar solo on this classic proved that young Quinn was up there with the best."

With millions of album sales and concert attendances worldwide, Wishbone Ash's heritage as one of the most enduring and best loved British Rock acts is assured. Colt48 Borderline Review 21/3/18
"The music is mainly Nu-Metal and Heavy Rock with powerful riffs, but with good melodies and it wasn’t long before the crowd were singing along. Not only are they headlining and selling out a major London venue, but are beginning to build a loyal fan base, and this could be the sign that Colt48 are on the way up. They supported Puddle of Mudd at the Garage last year and have opened for Crazy Town, Foxxy and Trapt. They play the songs from their new and previous EP’s, the catchy ‘Hate Hate Relationship’ and ‘The Fire’ being my favourites. The set was given a brief respite with the acoustic ‘Start Again’ which when finished, re-emphasises the power of the rest of the set list. I’ve followed Colt48 from their origins of the previous band, ‘48 Hours’, and it was great to see the previous band member Gary jump onto the stage to sing backing vocals for the encore."

Patlansky At Borderline Tonight 21/3/18
"It's a short song with Hendrix overtones that makes me eager to hear the rest of the album. 'Still Wanna Be Your Man' slows things down again with a tender song interspersed with searing solos and a voice that had me thinking of Alice Cooper. Not quite sure why but there you go. Closing track, and extended glorified jam is 'My Chana' which gives Patlansky to show off and showboat in equal measures. Jamming with his band the South African shows off every skill with guitar played in various positions. This guy has it all and is not afraid to show it." That was our take the last time we saw 2017 WRC Best Blues Rock Performance winner Dan Patlansky supporting Joanne Shaw Taylor at The Royal Festival Hall last November and Dan returns to London tonight at The Borderline (9pm) with support from Mollie Marriott (pictured) at 8pm.
Journey In Time Special 21/3/18
Bob's flying solo on today's 2017 WRC Award winning Rock On The Ridge Track Of The Day, taking you on a journey in time with Led Zeppelin, The Rolling Stones, Black Sabbath, Deep Purple (1968-1976), Deep Purple, Argent (John Verity), Bad Company, Thin Lizzy, Kansas, Blue Oyster Cult (pictured), Meat Loaf, Fleetwood Mac, Van Halen, Pink Floyd, Judas Priest, Journey, Iron Maiden, Kiss, Def Leppard, Guns N' Roses, Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, Alice Cooper, Metallica, Queen and the Steve Miller Band.
Jackaman Moon Rising 20/3/18
"The set consisted of eleven songs, opening with ‘Nobody’s Fault (But Yours)’. A confident funky struttin' start with deeply soulful vocals that get the hairs at the back of the neck standing! The set flows nicely into 'Copycat', followed by 'I'll Allow You', then 'On Your Own Now', then onto the title track 'One Shot', with beautifully controlled vocal vibrato that crackled with raw intensity, enough to melt the strongest of hearts! 'Sooner Or Later', a more riff driven track rocks hard with powerfully tight musicianship from the band and captivating vocal delivery from Lynne. 'Beautiful Loss' is an arresting ballad written about fellow Saint Jude band member Adam Greene, who sadly passed away in 2012. Delivered from the heart with captivating and engaging emotion, every word has deeply felt meaning, simply stunningly beautiful."

Not only did we manage to present the guys with their fully deserved award but we also managed to do a quick interview with them after their soundcheck where we not only discussed their critically acclaimed latest album 'We're All In This Together' but also their path forward as far as future gigs and albums were concerned. As expected it was a brilliant night of Prog at its very best, and with that interview and a gig photo gallery to come, in the meantime check out today's Video Of The Day.
Danny Bryant Revelation 15/3/18
Today's Route 66: One For The Road Track Of The Day is Rory Auskerry's recent interview with Danny Bryant discussing his latest album 'Revelation' - an impressive display of Danny's Blues/Rock prowess as both a singer and guitarist. In the interview Danny opens up to Rory on how it's been a difficult year, losing his father and dealing with anxiety and depression. However, the album isn't a 'downbeat' durge, instead, as expected, it's packed with passion and energy.

IT @ 229 Tonite! 14/3/18
"The Floyd influence on both the intro and outro of new single 'House', sandwiched the apt Halloween chorus of "Like a ghost in this house" before the guys rounded off their take from 'WAITT' with another cracker 'Revolution', with its heavy riff and 'Timewarpish' chorus. Brilliant. And in one of those - 'you couldn't make it up moments' - their finale was taken from their previous 'Departure' album, namely the driving 'God Is Dead' - just as two of our friends arrived - one of which was a Catholic priest who had just returned from Sunday Mass! All I can say is that the Gods are currently with IT. What a set." That was part of our review of IT at Progtoberfest 2 back in October at Balham's The Bedford and our 2017 WRC Best Prog Performance award winners return to London tonight at 229 The Venue!
Turbowolf Land At Scala Tonight 14/3/18
Last Friday Alt-Rock Psych mavericks Turbowolf released their new album, 'The Free Life', and the third single to be taken from the album ‘Cheap Magic’, is today's Video Of The Day. To support 'The Free Life', the band are currently on a European tour stopping off at London's Scala tonight. The new album is a vibrant masterpiece for this fractured era, as Turbowolf push back the boundaries of music with ambition in their heads and disruption in their hearts. Their previous album ‘Domino’ (which featured Mike Kerr of Royal Blood - who Turbowolf are main support to on their U. S. tour this Summer) earned support from the likes of Kerrang! Radio, Huw Stephens and Clara Amfo at Radio 1, Radio X and Sir Elton John, who described them as “fabulous!”

Classic British Hard Rockers Burn have regrouped, ten years after the release of their critically acclaimed and commercially well received third album ‘Global Warning’, to record the resounding, melody drenched follow-up, ‘Ice Age’, lined up for release on Melodic Rock Records on Friday 6th April. Crammed with 13 catchy, hook-laden hard grooving gems of powerful modern Hard Rock songs, ‘Ice Age’, is an even more accomplished opus than its highly acclaimed predecessor. A radio edit of ‘Irontown’, the first single to be taken from the album, to whet the musical appetite was digitally released at the end of February.
The Offering 13/3/18
Young Canadian Melodic Metallers Borealis return with their fourth studio album called 'The Offering' due to be released on Friday 23rd March. 2017 saw the re-recording of Borealis debut album 'World Of Silence' and 'Fall From Grace' in revised and fresh sounding editions, released by current label AFM Records. Although Canada might not be the first country one would think of when it comes to high class Melodic Metal, Borealis once again prove their potential with strong melodies, tasteful instrumentations and their very own blend of modern Metal riffs, classic power Metal and Progressive elements. Anyway, check out today's Video Of The Day 'Sign Of No Return' taken from the new album.

Carousel Of Progress 12/3/18
"Brossard's harmonica intro on the rockin' 'Well, Alright' immediately saw the nucleus of the band, namely New Jersey son Jansen Press and Gibson Guitars endorsed Parisian Vincent Martinez duelling guitars go into overdrive - with an amazing Rock voice to match from Martinez. And there was 'No More Hesitatin' as they went straight into this stand-out from 'RORAR' with its killer riff and more Lizzy-like guitar harmonies, living up to their bad reputation, despite no live keys, as "the best music you haven’t heard yet but already love", before the break-neck opening concluded with the heavier and faster paced 'Get It On'. Ooh La La - as the bandana/goggled wearing Press changed his guitar and announced that "It was good to back in London again" before the beat of the diminutive but colossal Montout's drum saw everyone clapping along to the harmonies and rallying call of of 'RORAR's title track - evidence - if you needed it - that these guys play Rock and Roll with a smile on their faces - purely out of a shared love for the classic Rock music they revel in and play so well."

Praying Mantis' Gravity 12/3/18
Praying Mantis release their eleventh studio album ‘Gravity’ on Friday 11th May and the title track, which is also their latest single, is today's Video Of The Day. After the positive reception afforded to the band's last studio release ’Legacy' in 2015, their latest CD sees the band return with another inspired, take-no-prisoners set. The album also sees Mantis retain the same line-up, with John Cuijpers (vocals) and Hans in’t Zandt (drums) again contributing to the songwriting process. Alongside founder members Tino Troy, Chris Troy and Andy Burgess, they have not only helped in the writing of the songs, but also in providing a new dimension in terms of sound engineering and overall production. A well established band of Melodic Hard Rockers formed in 1973, they
spearheaded the New Wave Of British Heavy Metal movement of the late ’70’s. Praying Mantis will also perform at the annual Frontiers Rock Festival in Milan, Italy, on Saturday 28th April.

Carousel Vertigo Photo Gallery 11/3/18
Arriving on stage to a backing tape of 'Rocky' and then announcing to those eagerly awaiting their set at Kings Cross' The Water Rats that "We play Rock and Roll" - Parisian rockers Carousel Vertigo certainly didn't pull any of their punches in London last Friday night. With half of their set taken from their latest album 'Revenge of Rock and Roll' - if you were a lover of Whitesnake, Status Quo, Thin Lizzy, The Faces, B.B. King, The Black Crowes, Deep Purple, Gary Moore and ZZ Top - then you were in for a treat - yes the music was really that wide-ranging! Anyway with a review to come, check out our Photo Gallery here as these guys duly delivered their promise of “Ia hi-energy rock & roll show with 70's rock overtones”.
Bad Touch, Night Ranger & Skid Row Tonight 11/3/18
"Their set included a balanced mixture of fast rockers and slower numbers, with six tracks from their last album, 'Truth Be Told', including ‘Heartbreaker, Soulshaker’, ‘My Mother Told Me’, ‘Take Your Time’, ‘Outlaw’, ‘The Mountain’ and ‘99%’. Three tracks from the debut album, 'Half Way Home', including ‘Good On Me’, ‘Wise Water’ and ‘Sweet Little Secret’, ‘Down’ from the 2013 EP, and a new song 'I Belong'. The encore included the frisky down and dirty Funk Soul duet with Mollie Marriott on their magnificent cover of Ike Turner's 'Baby Get It On', which was originally released in 1975 on Tina Turner's second solo album 'Acid Queen'. The set concluded with Bad Touch's most successful single so far '99%', a 100% rocker! Overall an enjoyable and entertaining gig. Definitely a band worthy of further investigation." That was part of our take on Bad Touch (pictured), the last time we saw them at the O2 Academy Islington last November. Well the guys are back in London tonight supporting both Skid Row and Night Ranger (Video Of The Day) at the Shepherd Bush Empire.
Slow Readers Build A Tower 11/3/18
Manchester four piece The Slow Readers Club release their new album 'Build A Tower' on Friday 4th May via Modern Sky and today's Track Of The Day, ‘Through The Shadows’, is one of the tracks featured on the new album which was shot live at the band's sold out headline show at Manchester's Albert Hall. Specialising in a dark and brooding Indie Electro that has drawn comparisons with Interpol, The Killers and The National, The Slow Readers Club have supported James on their arena tour, and performed at festivals including Isle Of Wight, Festival No.6 and Kendall Calling. The Slow Readers Club are Aaron Starkie (vocals), Kurtis Starkie (guitar and vocals), James Ryan (bass) and David Whitworth (drums), and they will be completing an extensive UK tour in support of 'Build A Tower' running throughout April and May this year including London's Islington Assembly Hall on Friday 25th May.
Vertigo Rock And Roll 10/3/18
Riding high on unanimously stellar reviews in France, of both its new album and recent live shows, Parisian rockers Carousel Vertigo duly delivered their promise of “Ia hi-energy rock & roll show with 70's rock overtones” at London's The Water Rats in KIngs Cross last night. Playing the best music you haven’t heard yet but already love, this short headlining tour of intimate UK venues supported last year's release of the band’s classic second album, ‘Revenge of Rock and Roll’. Anyway with a review and more pics to come - check out today's Video Of The Day. And if you get a chance to see the guys on the last three dates of their tour - then make sure you get along to Vic Biker’s Pub in Leicester tonight, The Diamond, Mansfield, tomorrow or The Priory Hotel, Dover, on Monday!

Asenblut Legenden 10/3/18
More than ten years have passed since Asenblut came together and a lot has happened in the Göttingen based band's camp since they caused quite the stir in the German Pagan Metal scene with their debut 'Aufbruch' back in 2009. Now in 2018, Asenblut are still an epic, furious, victorious and elegiac force to be reckoned with, a self-confident force about to let the regalia of German Viking Metal bloom anew. Their new 5 song EP 'Legenden' (see today's Track Of The Day), released last month, looks back at the days of 'Aufbruch' whilst taking a huge step forward at the same time: four songs from the band’s early days, re-recorded and refined in the mostperfect way, again by Sebastian "Seeb“ Leevermann (Orden Ogan) in his Greenman Studios. As a very special treat, 'Legenden' also includes a cover version of Manowar’s 'God Or Man'. The band, consisting of Claus Cleinkrieg (guitars), Yuri (guitars), Sash (bass), Balrogh (drums) and Tetzel (vocals) will also be playing three Germany Festivals namely: Hellraiser in Leipzig on Monday 30th April, Rocklobby in Gelsenkirchen on Saturday 12th May and the Wolfszeit Festival in Crispendorf on Thursday 23rd August.
Steppin' On To The Carousel Tonite! 9/3/18
Paris-based Carousel Vertigo released 'Revenge of Rock and Roll' last September and they are playing London's The Water Rats in Kings Cross tonight. The three native French rockers and an American do what this band does best and loves the most, regardless of opinions or passing phases, because Hard Rock truly is timeless and ever-present. The lyrical reach of their songs ranges from the rallying call of RORAR's title track to, on ‘Don’t Take It To Heart’, a hometown point of view on the terrorist attacks in Paris on 13th November 2015. The nucleus of the band, Gibson Guitars endorsed Parisian Vincent Martinez and New Jersey son Jansen Press, formed Carousel Vertigo purely out of a shared love of the classic Rock music they both revelled and could play so well.
Rebecca Downes & Thomas Wynn Also In Town Tonite 9/3/18
"Another Birkett guitar solo opened the slower Blues ballad 'Sailing On A Pool Of Tears' - for once Downes' vocal being dominated by Steve's awesome guitar work before Rebecca donned her guitar once more as the band finished with the familiar opening pounding drum/slide guitar of 'Believe's title track - its mid-section burst of driving drums/slide solo easily demonstrating why this track was runner up in the Best Blues Song category at last year's British Blues Awards. A superb Blues Rock set with something for everyone - do get to see her!" That was part of our take on Rebecca Downes supporting Snakecharmer at Islington's O2 Academy last May and Rebecca returns to London tonight supporting Magnum just up the road at the Assemby Hall. On a night of great music in the capital - Thomas Wynn And The The Believers (Video Of The Day) are also supporting the Temperance Movement at The Forum in Kentish Town!

The band has been extremely busy throughout 2017 composing, producing and recording this second album in collaboration with the Swedish producer Per Aldeheim (Def Leppard, Soilwork, Lambretta). Straight after the band headed on yet another extensive European tour opening for Brother Firetribe. Shiraz Lane personifies creative variety, which resonates through their double-edged guitar sound (produced by lead guitarist Jani Laine and rhythm guitarist Miki Kalske), groovy-yet-solid ground pounding (Ana Willman drums & Joel Alex bass) and the unmistakably high-soaring melodies chanted by lead singer Hannes Kett. Despite their relative youth, they are already veterans of the underground circuit in Sweden and have developed a reputation for being uncompromising, loud, and most of all, the genuine article.

Their new EP is out on Friday 16th March and comprises of catchy choruses, drop tuned riffs and pounding rhythms that showcase the band as they are; heavy, energetic and determined to succeed!

'Had Enough' (today's Video Of The Day) is the fourth track released from Diamante's forthcoming debut record due out later this year on Better Noise Records, following 'Haunted', 'Sleepwalking' and the breakout track 'Coming In Hot'. Produced by Howard Benson [Chris Cornell, Kelly Clarkson, My Chemical Romance, Halestorm], the upcoming collection brings to light a signature sound the artist has been developing meticulously since age 13. With her edgy style, sultry vocals, pop sensibility, and unabashed swagger, the Mexican-Italian-American solo artist draws from myriad influences and calls to mind legends from a spectrum of Rock icons including Joan Jett, Pat Benatar, Debbie Harry, Mötley Crüe, Def Leppard, and Bowie.

Black Heart Dirty Thrills 1/3/18
Despite the snow and the fact that the Camden venue was changed at the last minute - Dirty Thrills played London's The Black Heart last night. Following the launch of their latest album 'Heavy Living' at London's Crowndale Club last September, the band consisting of Jack Fawdry - guitar, backing vocals, Aaron Plows – bass, Louis James - lead vocals, harmonica and Steve Corrigan - drums, finish their current tour at Birmingham's O2 Institute 3 this Friday. Dirty Thrills then return to The Black Heart on Thursday 26th April when they take part in the first Frontiers 'New Breed Night’ which will also feature sets by recent fellow record label signings Doomsday Outlaw and The Brink. The guys then head out to mainland Europe as special guests of Skid Row on a month long tour, before their next confirmed UK show at the Stone Free Festival on Saturday 16th June at The O2 in London. Anyway, check out today's Video Of The Day of their new single ’The Brave'.
Trower Power In Pictures 1/3/18
After releasing perhaps his best solo album since his 40's 'Time and Emotion' last year, Robin Trower returned to play an exclusive UK concert at the Islington Assembly Hall in London on Tuesday night - his first UK gig since he graced the very same venue in October 2016. The set list was pretty much the same as sixteen months ago, but all the same, warming his fans up in style on a bitterly cold evening. The 72 year-old was supported by the New York based Blues vocalist Sari Schorr (pictured) featuring guitarist Ash Wilson and keyboardist Bob Fridzema (ex-King King). Anyway, with a review to come - check out today's Photo Gallery of the gig here.
