Monster Truck Interview 31/5/17

It's been in the can for just over two month's now - but it has been well worth waiting for. Despite the cowardly attrocity in Westminster that same Wednesday afternoon, life in England's capital city, as it always does, carried on in the face of adversity, as Monster Truck did both London and Canada proud at Camden's Electric Ballroom on 22nd March. With excellent support from "in yer face" two piece The Picturebooks, we were lucky enough to interview Jon, Brandon and Jer backstage beforehand and also present them with their 2016 WRC Best Support Band award! Anyway, check out our May Wrinklycast and today's Track Of The Day.

Replicants Confirmed For Wrinklystock 31/5/17

Yes, Wrinklystock legends The Replicants are returning to Wrinklystock 6! We caught up with some of the band at Iron Maiden's O2 gig last Saturday and they told us how excited they were to be playing at our WRC sponsored charity concert ‘Magic - a kind of Queen & a kind of ELO’ at the Mick Jagger Centre, Dartford, on Saturday 18th November at 7.30pm. Following the success of the Monster’s Of Irish Rock featuring Limehouse Lizzy and U2 Tribe at last year’s ‘Wrinklystock 5’ - ‘Wrinklystock 6’ stars Magic, a tribute to two of the greatest British Rock bands of all time - Queen and The Electric Light Orchestra - together in one fabulous show! Tickets can be purchased here for a bargain £22 or from the MJC Box Office on 01322 291100.

Merry Mother Of God Go Round 31/5/17

Since their formation in 2014, Garage Rock band Saint Agnes have released four sell-out singles, a live EP and cemented their place as London’'s most exciting live band. They are a 4 piece based in East London fronted by boy/girl duo Kitty Arabella Austen and Jon Tufnell. Saint Agnes play blistering Doom with Zeppelin swagger. They combine the churning fuzz bass of Black Rebel Motorcycle Club with the dark Blues interplay of The Kills and The Dead Weather. Latest single‘ 'Merry Mother Of God Go Round'’ (today's Vid Of The Day) was the second in a series following up the success of ‘'Sister Electric’', which sold out its lathe cut vinyl release on pre-order. For the first-Time Saint Agnes recently left their home country to play a selection of shows over Europe, to recruit new fans for their coven! Make sure you catch them!

Second Skin 30/5/17

"Step forward the gem of the evening – OK it was a cover of Whitesnake’s ‘Crying In The Rain’  - but it was just under ten minutes of quality British Hard Rock at its very best – showcasing Ousey's vocal style, which is soulful and smooth before he left the stage and handed it over to McBride and Wisefield to do the honours – before they duly handed the baton over to Wakeman. Awesome. It was then back to ‘Second Skin’ with a nod to the late 70’s AOR and  ‘That Kind Of Love’ – a Snakecharmer microcosm – great vocals, harmonies, catchy chorus and riff.  James’ pounding drum on ‘Guilty As Charged’ from their first album, nearly saw the giant Murray emerge from the back of the stage, but Neil thought better of it given the tambourine wielding Ousey and both Wisefield and McBride stealing the limelight again with some great guitar work."

Finally, read AJ's review of the recent Snakecharmer/Rebecca Downes gig at London's O2 Academy Islington here plus check out both our Vid Of The Day and our photo gallery here.

Heading Southbound Tonight 30/5/17

We recently saw our 2015 WRC ‘One’s To Watch’ award winners Southbound supporting Frankie Miller's Full House at The Borderline at the  beginning of May and the guys are deservedly headlining in their own right at London's iconic 100 Club tonight. Supporting them will be WRC friends Deep Blue Sea plus The Lol Goodman Band who have been getting great reviews - so it's gonna be a real belter. The music starts at 8pm and curfew is at 11pm.

Greg Allman Tribute 30/5/17

This week's Route 66 Track Of The Day also pays tribute to Greg Allman who died on Saturday. Host Rory Auskerry's Stockport based show also celebrates the efforts of all Manchester's Sunday marathon, half-marathon and 10k runners given the tragic events there last week. There are also birthday tunes for two members of The Rolling Stones!

Greg Allman RIP 29/5/17

"As Bad Company once said after coming on after Nazareth blew the bleeding roof of Olympia – “how do we follow that?” Well we were torn – Greg Allman on the Classic Rock stage (who had tragically lost his Mum before the gig) and Marillion on the Prog stage? To be perfectly honest we flitted between the two and I could hear Marillion’s iconic ‘Neverland’ when I was watching Allman. Drat! In the end we backed Greg – respect for him – given the maxim “ The show must go” I suppose. Although we missed part of his big band blues set - Greg’s band were funky and slick and to see them perform ‘Whipping Post’ is another one off my bucket list but no ‘Ramblin’ Man’? Anyway, The WRC troops wandered happily off into the night – muddy and not looking forward to the trip home." That was part of our 2015 Ramblin' Man Fair review - and given Saturday night's news that Greg had died at the age of just 69 - we now look back and realise how lucky we were to see the Southern Rock pioneer that wet July night (pictured). Therefore, today's Vid Of The Day from that set is dedicated to Greg.

Iron Maiden Photo Gallery 29/5/17

Well as it turned out, it was one almighty gathering at London's O2 Arena on Saturday night. Starting with the Maiden Army turning out in force in the sun, just down the road at The Pilot Inn - with original Maiden guitarist Dennis Stratton among the faces - and you wouldn't be at all surprised to learn that the Pub ran out of Trooper!  We also caught up with Wrinkly The Siver Fox (the one without the hair) - the lucky bast**d - who managed to go to the after show party and meet guitarist Janick Gers (the one with the hair). Anyway, with a review to come - check out our photo gallery here.

Keeping The Faith 29/5/17

Today's Black On Blues Track Of The Day features Rev Shawn Amos, Davis Coen, Micki Free, Mark Cameron Band, Steve Kozak Band, The New Bluebloods and Jonny Lang.

Ready Eddie 28/5/17

Iron Maiden's 'The Book Of Souls Tour' European leg finished this weekend as Ed Force One landed in London with two sold-out shows, last night and tonight, at the O2 Arena. Unsurprisingly the set last night was the same as we saw at Download 2016 -  comprising predominantly of the new - opening with both 'If Eternity Should Fail' and 'Speed Of Light' from the excellent 'The Book Of Souls' - and the old - 'Children Of The Damned', 'The Trooper' and 'Iron Maiden' (with Eddie thrown in for good measure). 'The Number Of The Beast' and 'Wasted Years' concluded the evening before 'Always Look On The Bright Side Of Life' sent the crowd home happy. The band now flies to the U.S.A  for an extensive series of arena and amphitheatre shows including dates in Canada, ending with two nights in Brooklyn, New York, on 21st and  22nd July. With a review and more pics to come - check out today's Vid Of The Day.

Honest Man 28/5/17

"Another song from the 'Honest Man' album, 'Quiet Company', a soft ballad with great guitar work, is up next and it's a pin drop moment, as the the audience takes in this quite beautiful song which highlights the tender side to Matt's usually powerhouse of a voice. Drawing comparisons between his native Canada's and our own mining industries in the UK, the title track from the 'Coal Mining Blues' album follows, another great and poignant song. Although Mr. Andersen is not a household name (yet) here, he certainly has a good fan base, which is perfectly illustrated as the majority here know every word to 'I Lost My Way' from the 2014 album 'Weightless'. Now it's audience participation time, with Matt performing one of his personal favourites, Curtis Mayfield's 'People Get Ready'. Gone is the Gospel element of the song in favour of simple guitar, with all the girls supplying the "ooohs", the guys the "aaahs", and one man on a stool who has everyone eating out of the palm of his hand."

You can read the whole of Phil C.'s Matt Andersen Borderline, London, review from Thursday night here plus check out today's Track Of The Day.

Blackfield Photo Gallery 28/5/17

As promised - today we have our Blackfield photo gallery here from their Islington Assembly Hall gig on Friday night. And yes we do indeed have photographic evidence that Steven Wilson did, as we predicted, join Aviv Geffen on stage during a veritable feast of Blackfield pop classic's including 'Miss U', 'Pain' and 'End Of The World' interspersed with all the new 'Blackfield V' stuff.

Dissolving With The Night 27/5/17

Following the recent launch of their latest album Blackfield V - Aviv Geffen and indeed Steven Wilson returned to London at Islington's Assembly Hall last night. A veritable feast of Blackfield pop classic's including 'Miss U', 'Pain' and 'End Of The World' were interspersed with all the new stuff although disappointingly there was none of the stand out's from 'V' namely 'Family Man', 'Life Is An Ocean' and 'Undercover Heart'. Anyway, given their amazing back catalogue, we suppose you can't have everything and it was still an awsome gig. With a review and more pics to come - check out today's Vid Of The Day.

Iron Maiden At O2 Arena Tonight! 27/5/17

"Despite the appalling weather, as expected Bruce and the boys signed off in style with a set comprising predominantly of the new - opening with both 'If Eternity Should Fail' and 'Speed Of Light' from the excellent 'The Book Of Souls' - and the old - 'Children Of The Damned', 'The Trooper' and 'Iron Maiden' (with Eddie thrown in for good measure). Dickinson also enjoyed banter with the 85,000 strong crowd - not only getting on his soapbox before 'The Book Of Souls', but also poignantly dedicating 'Tears Of A Clown' to the late Robin Williams and 'Blood Brothers' as part of the encore to the victims of the Orlando massacre the night before. 'The Number Of The Beast' and 'Wasted Years' concluded the evening before 'Always Look On The Bright Side Of Life' sent the very wet but happy crowd home."

That was our take on Iron Maiden at Download last year and at least the weather will be better tonight, even if it is under cover at London's O2 Arena as Bruce and the boys continue their 'Book Of Souls' world tour!

You Should Be Happy 27/5/17

Goo Goo Dolls (Track Of The Day) recently released their new EP (digitally) entitled ‘You Should Be Happy’. The band, featuring singer and guitarist John Rzeznik and bassist and singer Robby Takac, have been on the road constantly since the release of their 11th studio album, 'Boxes'. The multi-platinum, Grammy-nominated band are one of the most globally respected and influential forces in popular music, selling more than 12 million albums since 1986.

Cloudy Now 26/5/17

"For those frustrated PT fans out there - a release valve was the driving 'Once' from 'Blackfield II' - brilliant. 'Miss U' and the delightful 'Where Is My Love' completed the 'Blackfield II' roll-call before a well deserved encore saw the guys finish with Blackfield classics 'Hello', 'End Of The World' and the powerful 'Cloudy Now'. Definitely a kosher set, with the strengths of both Wilson and Geffen's guitar, vocal and writing abilities complementing each other to the max. What a great double bill. Now let's find that Blackfield back catalogue ... AJ"

Well AJ did obviously find that Blackfield back catologue following that London Shepherd's Bush Empire gig in April 2011 - and after two further Blackfield album's - he's back for more tonight at  Islington's Assembly Hall - a rare outing with Mr. Prog!

Sonny Landreth On The Slide 26/5/17

The new Sonny Landreth live album, ‘Recorded Live In Lafayette’,  will be out on Friday 30th June via the Provogue/Mascot Label Group. This will be the legendary slide guitarist's first live album in 12 years and today's Vid Of The Day is a live performance of 'Blues Attack'. The King of Slydeco, Landreth returns with 2 unique live sets, one acoustic and one electric.  After a dozen acclaimed albums, virtuoso slide guitarist and bandleader Sonny found himself at an artistic crossroads. He finally wanted to create the full-length acoustic collection his fans had long requested, but he was also itching to capture the sound of his stalwart electric trio augmented by a couple of his favourite collaborators. And the time was certainly right for an elastic, career-spanning double-live album. So Landreth and his longtime friends decided to do it all. ‘Recorded Live in Lafayette’ is a 16-song opus that covers more musical ground than any single album ever could, as the singer and songwriter’s work stretches and twists across 93 minutes of full-band acoustic and electric bottleneck lightning.

More Music Less Chat! 26/5/17

Today's Blues Club Podcast Track Of The Day returns with another two hours of non-stop Best in Blues with More Music and Less Chat, featuring New Releases, Classic Tracks, UK Independent Blues Broadcasters Association Presenters' Picks and much more. Music this week Includes tracks from Sean Chambers, Beth Garner, Steely Dan, Earl Music, Hector Anchondo Band, Dusty Springfield, Janiva Magness, The Jive Aces, London Blusion, John Nemeth, Nina Massara, Bridget Kelly Band, Taj Mahal & Keb' Mo', Malaya Blue (pictured), North Mississippi Allstars, Fran McGillivray Band, Bachman Turner Overdrive, The Cadillac Kings, Jamie Cullum, Imelda May, Bobby Messano, Angelo Palladino & The Street Hawks, Kilborn Alley Blues Band, Bradley Stivers, Rocky Athas, Billy Flynn, John Primer & Bob Corritore, Blues Beatles,  B. B. & The Blues Shacksand more.

Masters Of Their Universe 25/5/17

"The mood of the set changed dramatically as James took the opportunity to voice his own Chris Cornell tribute. With just Drew on acoustic guitar, he launched into a wonderful rendition of Soundgarden’s 'Black Hole Sun'. Prompting a heartfelt crowd sing along, it was very poignant. Probably the stand out moment of the night. Continuing the acoustic break was a cover of Deep Purples 'Burn' - another clear influence on the band. It was a great interpretation, slow but melodic, James strong voice accompanied by Andreas on acoustic lead, Drew on acoustic rhythm and Parkinson on acoustic bass. Back to electric with some punch in the face Rock, 'Taking The Blame'. I think they should. Following a well received announcement of an October tour Electric Ballroom, they finished off the set with the popular 'Girl Got A Gun' and 'High Class Woman'. The obligatory encore saw another new track, 'I Don’t Need Your Loving', aired – another Whitesnake sounding Bluesy Rock track. Followed by Andreas dreamy Bluesy solo leading into what is arguably Inglorious most well know song, 'Holy Water'. Finishing with 'Until I Die', they went out with a bang."

Matt Andersen At Borderline Tonight 25/5/17

"The album's closer, 'One Good Song' is exactly that, a good song about finding and writing that one good song that every artist aspires to. Vocal, piano & flute take pride of place as this well crafted tune takes the CD to its inevitable conclusion. A real unexpected treat of an album, the only question that lingers is how Mr Andersen is not a household name? Surely this can only be a matter of time? If the live dates throughout May in the U.K. are as good as this album, big things are surely just around the corner for Matt and his easy Country Blues style rock."

That was part of Phil C.'s recent take on Matt Andersen's 'Honest Man' CD and not only is Matt today's Video Of The Day, but both Phil and Bob Wilson will also be covering Matt's gig for the WRC at London's Borderline tonight!

Deep Blue Sea Playing 100 Club 25/5/17

It was good to hear recently from Deep Blue Sea (Track Of The Day) bass guitarist Graeme Wheatley who told us that the band are playing London's iconic 100 Club next week on Tuesday 30th May. The guys are also supporting our 2015 WRC ‘One’s To Watch’ award winners Southbound (pictured) - who we saw supporting Frankie Miller's Full House at The Borderline at the  beginning of May. Also on the bill are The Lol Goodman Band who have been getting great reviews - so it's gonna be a real belter. The music starts at 8pm and curfew is at 11pm.

Talk To Me Like I'm Dead 24/5/17

Every music fan out there knows that there are bands that simply tick the box and follow the trend, then there are those rare bands that arrive on the scene and redefine the next generation within that genre. Midlands HVMM fall effortlessly into the latter category. Although the quartet may still be a relatively new act, their irrepressible and unforgettable presence on the live circuit, which is epitomized by their relentless energy and charged sound, has seen them become the first British act signed to US label ILA. As the band build towards the release of their debut EP, 'Talk To Me I'm Dead', with a series of festival appearances and gigs including Camden Rocks on Saturday 3rd June, HVMM are ready to unleash the forceful lead single 'Lacerate' which is today's Vid Of The Day.

UK Live Music Census 24/5/17

The first ever UK live music census is surveying live music across the country. Many live music venues are facing hard times through a combination of licensing restrictions, business rates and noise complaints. To try and get a better picture of live music in the UK, The UK Live Music Census is surveying as many people as possible about live music: performers, venues, promoters and gig goers are all welcome to take the survey. We think that all WRC members should have their say here about the future of live music in the UK. The survey ends next Wednesday 31st May.

Marriott Stop Off On Route 66 24/5/17

Mollie Marriott, the daughter of the late Small Faces and Humble Pie singer Steve Marriott joins host Rory Auskerry this week on today's Route 66 Track Of The Day to chat about her debut album, performing as a backing singer and her memories of her dad. Rory also has new music from Snakecharmer, classic tracks from Humble Pie, Stevie Nicks, Thin Lizzy, Mick Jagger, Steven Seagal plus also pays tribute to Chris Cornell who died last week.

Marriott At Borderline 23/5/17

Yes you read it right - Mollie Marriott (Vid Of The Day), daughter of former Small Faces and Humble Pie singer/guitarist Steve Marriott and step-daughter to singer Joe Brown, will perform a rare concert next week at London’s Borderline on Thursday 1st June.  If you are into Sheryl Crow, Alannah Myles and Bonnie Raitt, Mollie will be right up your alley. Mollie has spent her music career in the wings, having worked mostly as a backing singer with numerous artists including Oasis and her stepfather Joe Brown. Now she’'s taking centre stage. Mollie’'s live performances exude a warm, charming rapport with her audience. Her sassy Soulful Blues vocals are full of classic influences. She can find a raw emotional edge that the best Soul and Rock singers have –at times rootsy and upscale through to modest and classy with a sustained relaxed feel.

Engine Room Calling At Chislehurst Tonight! 23/5/17

"Despite teething problems with both the Borderline's sound and lighting - Sari and the guys soldiered on - with Sari resting her voice as Innes led the band into a classic cover of Freddie King's instrumental 'The Stumble' which cooly set us up for another Blues standard - T-Bone Walker's 'Call It Stormy Monday' - with Olinder's delightful opening keys, Innes' jaw-dropping fretwork and Sari's sultry vocal - this was the stand-out for me on the night and showed the class of this band - not forgetting the literal 'Engine Room' of Jefferies and O'Rourke. Two new tracks (for me) sandwiched 'AFON's, the mellow and groovy, 'Oklohoma', with its mean fusional outro jam with Anders' keys, another Sibun guitar solo and of course Schorr's excellent lyrical diction. The former 'Don't You Call My Name' and the latter 'American Boy' both kept the Blues Police and momentum in check." That was our take on Sari Schorr & The Engine Room's London Borderline gig (pictured) in March this year and the guys are still on the road stopping off tonight at The Beaverwood Club in Chislehurst, Kent, with support from Adam Sweet.

Busy Bees 23/5/17

Today's Track Of The Day is the 2016 WRC Award Winning Rock On The Ridge show originally broadcast on Saturday - the night after we joined Bob and Jules at the Islington Assembly Hall to see both Inglorious (pictured) and Mason Hill - who are both featured on the show. Other music includes Duel, These Wicked Rivers, New Black Roses, The Blackfires, The Magpie Salute, Snakecharmer, The Greasy Slicks, Reverend And The Makers, The Ivory Elephant, Doomsday Outlaw, Hollowstar, Dead Man's Whiskey, Goldray, Long John And The Killer Blues Collective, Soundgarden, Led Zeppelin, and on their introducing stage Hollow Illusion.

Walkway Album Announcement 22/5/17

Walkway’s distinct vocals, jaw dropping solos and solid rhythm section have created a huge buzz and gained the band the reputation as one of the UK’s best unsigned Rock bands. The guys have been very busy recently behind the scenes getting together the artwork, running order and title for their new album titled 'WWIII' which will be released on Saturday 8th July. To coincide with the release on the 8th, the band will also be playing a launch show at The Waterfront Norwich which also marks the bands 1000th show since forming 10 years ago. Tickets are now on sale so make sure you get yours quick - it's going to be a night to remember!

Newbury Voodoo 22/5/17

Our thanks to new WRC member Jim Bellew who has been in contact to point out that Voodoo Room (Vid Of The Day) are playing the Arlington Arts Centre, Newbury, on Friday 9th June. In fact we first 'introduced' you to VR in March 2015. An exciting classic power trio, paying tribute to both Hendrix and Cream, they perform a kicking, world class show in total appreciation of these two massive pioneers of classic Blues/Rock!! Featuring Pete Orr on guitar and vocals, John Tonks on drums and Andy Tolman on bass -  there are no wigs, no pantomime - just great UK musicians playing great music!

It's Raining Blues 22/5/17

Today's Track Of The Day is another Black On Blues women special featuring Nina Massarra, Bridget Kelly Band, Laura Cheadle, Ruby And The Revelators, Patty Reese, Annie Mack and Kate Lush.

Photo Gallery Assembly 21/5/17

With a review from Mother on its way - today we have our Islington Assembly Hall photo gallery here, courtesy of Bob Wilson, following an awesome night of live music from both Inglorious and Mason Hill two days ago.  A healthy WRC contingent were present as our 2016 Best Rock Performance award winners launched their new album 'Inglorious II' - a set which also included covers of Deep Purple's 'Burn' plus a moving tribute to Chris Cornell with 'Black Hole Sun'. Unfortunately, there was no time to present Inglorious with their award, but we did manage to interview Mason Hill (pictured) guitarist James Bird after their sound check - their set including new stuff from their much anticipated new album on Frontiers Records, a cover of Mountain's 'Mississippi Queen' plus their tribute to Cornell. The WRC would like to thank Mike Exley and Peter McLean for making the interview with James possible - watch out for that shortly!

Marching Through The Smoke 21/5/17

Ahead of their show at Camden Rocks in a couple of weeks, Birmingham 4-piece Blank Parody have just put out the video for their new single ‘Marching Through The Smoke’ which is today's Vid Of The Day. The video has been shot including some incredible landscapes and drone footage across Dartmoor, with some pretty unique band performance shots. It's definitely not your average video. The track was produced by Jim Pinder who has worked with the likes of Fightstar & Bullet For My Valentine and mastered by Geoff Pesche (Pulp) at Abbey Road.

Free KWS Download! 21/5/17

Modern Blues torch bearer Kenny Wayne Shepherd has released ‘Baby Got Gone’ (today's Track Of The Day), the first track from his brand new album ‘Lay It On Down’ which will be out on Friday 21st July via Provogue/Mascot Label Group. KWS has also made the track available for free download here. In January, when Shepherd and his band entered the Echophone Studios in Shreveport, Louisiana, the mission statement was nothing if not ambitious: the greatest songs of Shepherd’s career. No more. No less. KWS embarks on a European tour in July/August which inclues Ramblin' Man Fair on Saturday 29th July.

Happy And Inglorious! 20/5/17

A healthy WRC contingent were present at 2016 Best Rock Performance award winners Inglorious' official album launch of 'Inglorious II' at London's Islington Assembly Hall last night. And if you wanted proof of why they walked away with last year's honour for their performance at Ramblin' Man Fair - then this was it! Brilliantly supported by Mason Hill, who incidentally were also at Ramblin' Man last year - we also managed to interview band members Scott and James after their sound check. Anyway check out today's Vid Of The Day - with more pics from Bob Wilson and a review from Mother to come!

JB - Live At Carnegie Hall Review 20/5/17

"So nine songs in and such is the pace, we finally get our first "good evening" from the man himself, time is simply flying by. Now then, this is where the reviewer has a bit of a dilemma. The live version of 'Mountain Time' on  2008's 'Live From Nowhere In Particular', is, quite simply one of my favourite ever songs by anyone. The closing guitar solo on that track, makes the hairs on the back of your neck stand to attention. Unfortunately, this obviously cannot be replicated with an acoustic guitar, however it's still a truly great song and this new arrangement can't be faulted, with the vocals of Barnes and Tippins adding to its depth, a classic song, whichever style you prefer. It must be time for a cover version, the first of three in fact. The Folk song from the 1920's, 'How Can A Poor Man Stand Such Times And Live' has been covered by such luminaries as Ry Cooder and Bruce Springsteen. You can tell Joe loves this song, with his take on it, blending Blues, Folk and Gospel to make this arrangement stand head and shoulder's with all those that have gone before."

You can read the whole of Phil C's review of Joe Bonamassa's new album 'Live At Carnegie Hall - An Acoustic Evening' (Track Of The Day) that's due to be released on Friday 23rd June here

Their Mortal Remains 20/5/17

The WRC also managed to take in this week London's Victoria & Albert Museum exhibition - Pink Floyd: Their Mortal Remains. Whether you are a big Floyd fan or not - you simply have to go along and see this slice of total Rock history as you literally follow the pathway from the '60's to the present day. With some awesome memorabilia (pictured) plus jaw dropping Floyd footage at the end - do not miss it. The exhibition finishes on Sunday 1st October so you still have plenty of time to book your tickets!

Chris Cornell 19/5/17

The first time I really came across Chris Cornell was watching MTV when they played Audioslave's 'Cochise' (today's Vid Of The Day) which blew me way. Other candidate's for today's VOTD could quite easily have been Soundgarden's 'Black Hole Sun' or his Bond soundtrack 'You Know My Name' - but whatever the undoubted quality of his music, it's not much consolation at the moment, after learning of his sudden and unexpected death at the age of just 52 yesterday. RIP Chris. AJ.

Inglorious Assembly 19/5/17

All roads lead to London's Islington Assembly Hall tonight as a healthy WRC contingent are off to see our very own 2016 Best Rock Performance award winners - Inglorious. Not only that, but we are also be interviewing support band Mason Hill after their sound check. Phew! So watch out shortly for a review, pics and that interview!

Best In Blues 19/5/17

The Blues Club Podcast Track Of The Day returns today with another two hours of non-stop Best in Blues with More Music and Less Chat, featuring New Releases, Classic Tracks, UK Independent Blues Broadcasters Association Presenters' Picks and much more. Music this week Includes tracks from Janiva Magness, Bruce Springsteen (pictured), Hannah Aldridge, Josh Hoyer & Soul Colossal, Hurricane Ruth, Robert Cray,  Frankie Miller, Ruby & The Revelators, Trizia Band, Joe Bonamassa, Jimmy Witherspoon, Kathleen Pearson, Dave Hunt, Ruthie Foster, JFK Blue, Greasy Gravy, Graham Parker, The Marcus King Band, Larry Garner & Norman Beaker Band, Professor Louie & The Crowmatix, Tanya Piche Blues Band, Kate Lush Band, Nina Massara, Chris Antonik, Taj Mahal & Keb' Mo', Eight O' Five Jive, Joe Anderton, Storm Warning, The Johnny Max Band, The Doobie Brothers, B. B. & The Blues Shacks and more.

Playing Their Cards Right 18/5/17

"The Blues influence of Paul Kossof was palpable right from the start of Bucket's opening solo on 'I Know Why The Sun Don't Shine' - yes Frankie co-wrote this song with the Free legend - an opportunity for the long haired Manzi to flex his vocal chords which he duly nailed with support from two more jaw-dropping guitar solos from Bucket and Minhinnett. FMFH were obviously having fun and even Ray broke into a smile on a solo during 'Be Good To Yourself' before Bucket took over once again as Manz's vocal, for an instant, brought back memories of Frankie in his prime. The epic Blues ballad 'Jealousy' from '82 release 'Standing On The Edge' with both it's thought provoking lyrics and another Bucket solo was immediately followed by 'A Fool In Love',  co-written by Miller with another Free legend Andy Fraser. Taken from 'The Rock', which they recorded in America,  understandably the Glaswegian was once described as having "all American soul" and being "the white Otis Redding",  although FMFH's  live version was more true Rock 'n Roll - with even a 'Paper Back Writer' outro from Minhinnett!"

Finally read AJ's take here on Frankie Miller's Full House/Southbound gig at London's Borderline plus check out our photo gallery here.

Fires At Cargo Tonight 18/5/17

They make it clear they still have something to say right from the off with the title track, a chunky slice of guitar-driven Melodic Rock nirvana that kicks off their strongest studio outing in aeons. From there, the album really takes off via a series of well-crafted songs featuring big choruses, swaggering riffs and simple yet addictive hooks to die for. Each one carries a Power-Rock packed punch, with mainmen Harry Hess and Pete Lesperance showing the Rock world that their partnership still works and that they are indeed still ‘United’.

Dan Patlansky Review 7/5/17

"And if you wanted Swagger then there was the pure Blues Rock of ‘Daddy’s Old Gun’ with a great guitar outro solo from Dan – all about an old guy in a South African petrol station who pulled out a gun on a very surprised Patlansky! Dan’s previous album ‘Dear Silence Thieves’ got a look in with the pounding, up-tempo and darn catchy ‘Backbite’ before it was to time jam with another nod to Hendrix and ‘My Chana’ – an opportunity to showcase the band - with solo’s from all of Patlansky’s superb German session musicians including bass guitarist Jonathan Murphy (yes he really is German) – before Patlansky wrapped up the set with his piece de la resistance as he cradled his guitar in his right hand whilst playing an unbelievable guitar solo with just his left which included the chimes of Big Ben! Astonishing!"
