Jesus To Support Bullet 30/4/18

Swedish Death ‘n’ Roll trio Jesus Chrüesler Supercar have been confirmed as special guest act at Swedish Heavy Metal five-piece Bullet’s upcoming 02 Islington Academy headline gig in London on Wednesday 16th May. Jesus Chrüsler Supercar’s second album, ‘35 Supersonic’, released in April 2016 on Rodeostar/SPV, is a ferocious yet melodious, thoroughly uninhibited, storming mix of Rock, Punk, Doom and Death metal. Bullet’s stonking sixth studio album, ‘Dust To Gold’, recently released on Steamhammer/SPV has already won a host of rave reviews.

Tears In My Eyes 30/4/18

Due to be released on Friday 8th June,  the aptly titled ‘XIII’ is the thirteenth studio album by the Norwegian Hard Rock band TNT. It features founding members Ronni Le Tekro (guitar) and Diesel Dahl (drums), alongside bassist Ove Husemoen and new vocalist Baol Bardot Bulsara, who has replaced the recently departed Tony Harnell. Hailing from Spain, Baol is a stunning singer whose debut with the band occurred in front of 8,000 rabid fans in November 2017 when the band opened for German Hard Rock legends Scorpions at a show in Oslo, Norway. TNT fans can expect the Melodic Rock and excellent playing they have grown accustomed to from the band over their storied career. Check out their new single 'Tears In My Eyes' which is today's Video Of The Day.

Heartfelt Blues 30/4/18

Today's Black On Blues Track Of The Day features music from Beth Hart (pictured), Carolyn Gaines, Heather Newman, Kathy & The Kilowatts, Lori Oz, Meg Williams and Michele Malone.

The Record Company 29/4/18

Similar to yesterday, we are once again indebted to another one of our American correspondents, namely Rick Menniti for today's Video Of The Day. Rick went to see The Record Company in Charleston on Wednesday night, a band that write and play raw, sincere Rock n' Roll. Influenced by the rough honesty of their heroes - Bluesmen like John Lee Hooker, early Punk bands like The Stooges and Rock greats like The Rolling Stones - their sound incorporates slide guitar, distorted bass, a garage-sale Ludwig drum kit and the heartland-hued voice of Chris Vos, who grew up on a Wisconsin dairy farm!

Well Fargo 29/4/18

36 years on from the release of their last album ‘F’ in 1982, cult German Hard Rock act Fargo have announced the arrival of a brand new studio LP, ‘Constellation’, on Friday 25th May on Steamhammer/SPV. ‘Constellation’ contains twelve contemporary, wonderfully laid-back classic Rock compositions, all effortlessly exuding the typical Fargo signature sound, not least their impressive recently released first single ‘Leave It’. Mention must also be made of the casually grooving ‘Don’t Talk’, the atmospheric ‘Cross To Bear’, ‘Losers Blues’, (reminiscent of the best of ZZ Top) and ‘Southern Breeze’, which incorporates no less than twenty Elvis hit single titles in the lyrics. Even original drummer Frank ‘Franky’ Tolle picked up his sticks again on ‘Buzz Buzz’ and ‘Don’t Talk’.

Hamlet At Sunset 29/4/18

Aaron Roterfeld is not the type of person who settles for half-measures! The Roterfeld frontman took a whole seven years to let the successor to his hit album 'Blood Diamond Romance' ripen. Now the Austrian rockers are finally back with 'Hamlet at Sunset' released this Friday 4th May, playing themselves into their very own, genre-crossing league. Roterfeld are not only rocking the long-awaited fans with their new single 'Bring Your Own Star To Life', but also millions of smartphones. Today's Track Of The Day and  video was chosen by the social media app "Castl.rocks" for the worldwide smartphone release 2018.

G3 Summit 28/4/18

"Well you can take the boy out of Dream Theatre but you can't take the Tech Metal out of the boy as Petrucci's power trio opened up with a Prog instrumental version of the recent Wonder Woman theme tune 'Wrath Of The Amazons', Petrucci pumping his fist in the air before the heavy bass line of 'Jaws Of Life' from his solo album 'Suspended Animation' - with its to die for solo guitar ending. Wow. "Hello London" - the black bearded Petrucci greeted the crowd - "This is the Metal part of G3!" And he hammered home the point with some unbelievable fret work on 'The Happy Song' which did exactly what it said on the tin making the audience feel like they were on 'Cloud Ten'. The heavy riff of 'Damage Control' - which Petrucci recently admitted he struggles to play live (although it didn't show) - highlighted his awesome engine room, namely some neat sticks work from his Boston Dream Theater mucker and the baseball capped Mike Mangini plus a pounding bass guitar solo from Floridian Dave LaRue."

Tennessee Whiskey 28/4/18

We're indebted to our new Washington correspondent Christina Wallace for tipping us off about today's Track Of The Day - 'Tennessee Whiskey' by Chris Stapleton. The Nashville-endorsed outlaw spent a decade writing hits for stars like Kenny Chesney and Luke Bryan before becoming an overnight sensation with solo debut 'Traveller' which lead to four Grammy nominations, including Album of the Year, and his first major hit, 'Nobody to Blame'.

G3 Apollo Photo Gallery 27/4/18

"Step forward German guitarist Uli Jon Roth, best know as Scorpions lead guitarist and one of the earliest contributors to the Neoclassical Metal genre - although the 63 year old's official tenure with Germany's famous Rock son's actually ended forty years ago. With his trademark (blue) bandana and his white moustache, Roth had strength in numbers with his six piece set up, opening with the Proggy instrumental 'Sky Overture' - an immediate opportunity to showcase one of his transcendental "Sky" guitars, all of which contain extra frets. "Good evening London" - Roth welcomed the crowd - using that well know German expression of "stating the bleedin' obvious" that they were in for a guitarfest tonight. And the signs were certainly good given the quality sound, lighting and backdrop of a big screen - even Roth's long hair was blowing and flowing as they launched into the driving Rock and vocal harmonies of 'Sun In My Hand'. Uli Jon dedicated Scorpion's 'We'll Burn The Sky' from 'Taken By Force' to his younger brother and fellow guitarist Zeno who tragically died just over two months ago - its poignancy not only hitting home because of Zeno's photo projected on the big screen, but also the fact that Uli's girlfriend Monika Dannemann had written the lyrics in conjunction with Rudolf Schenker and that indeed Monika took her own life in 1996."

Playing shows in many European countries, including the UK, France, Italy, Spain, Poland, The Netherlands, Belgium, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Switzerland and more, Satriani landed at London's Hammersmith Apollo last night with Dream Theater’'s John Petrucci and the former Scorpions guitarist Uli Jon Roth - with each guitarist performing their own set, followed by a brilliant jam at the end of the show. With a review and more photos to come, please check out today's Video Of The Day.

Tuesday Blues Photo Gallery 26/4/18

London's iconic 100 Club witnessed the latest monthly instalment of the Tuesday Blues series this week featuring headliners (Ken Pustelnik's) The Groundhogs, Crow Black Chicken and Born Healer (pictured). WRC favourites Born Healer kicked off a great night of Blues with their mix of old, new,  including 'Forgot To Forget' and classic covers, namely Zeps 'Whole Lotta Love'. Crow Black Chicken a three-piece Blues Rock band from Clonmel, Ireland - think the Emerald Isle's ZZ Top - were a real highlight - with a storming set mainly taken from their CD 'South Roman Street'. Finally, would you believe that Ken Pustelnik picked up The Groundhog's sticks 53 years ago and the four-piece kept the flag flying for British Blues still producing their own particular brand of Blues, Acid and Progressive Rock. Anyway, check out our Photo Gallery from the night here.

The First Frontier 26/4/18

Tonight at London's Black Heart in Camden, Frontiers Music srl present the next generation of Rock legends! The first edition of ’Frontiers - New Breed Night’ features three of the label’s recent UK signings - an eclectic triple bill co-headlined by Doomsday Outlaw (Track Of The Day) and Dirty Thrills with support from The Brink. Doomsday Outlaw's new album, 'Hard Times' is set for worldwide release on Friday 11th May and then the band head out on a full UK tour, much of it as support to label mate Jizzy Pearl (of Love/Hate). Meanwhile, Dirty Thrills also head out to mainland Europe as special guests of Skid Row on a month long tour, before their next confirmed UK show at the Stone Free Festival on Saturday 16th June at London's O2. Finally, influenced by great Rock bands of both the past and present, The Brink bring new life and energy to today’s scene with their vibrant 21st Century form of balls-to-the-wall Rock N’ Roll.

Tuesday's Blues 25/4/18

London's iconic 100 Club witnessed the latest monthly instalment of the Tuesday Blues series last night featuring headliners (Ken Pustelnik's) The Groundhogs, Crow Black Chicken (pictured) and Born Healer. Would you believe Pustelnik picked up The Groundhog sticks 53 years ago and currently keeps the flag flying for British Blues with their current line up still producing their own particular brand of Blues, Acid and Progressive Rock. With support from Crow Black Chicken a three-piece Blues Rock band from Clonmel, Ireland, plus WRC favourites Born Healer, it was a great mix of Blues. Anyway, with our Photo Gallery to come, check out today's Video Of The Day.

Satriani's G3 Tonight 25/4/18

'Soap On A Rope' - also off of the 2009 album 'Chickenfoot' - clearly demonstrated Joe's dexterity and up next was er .. 'Up Next' from Chickenfoot III which took things down a notch, followed by 'My Kinda Girl' which again had a Stones touch about it. 'Down The Drain' echoed the influence of the absent Smith - the bass and drum of Anthony and Aronoff making it the classic it is, not forgetting Hagar's 'Daltreyesque' vocals at the end - taking us all back to Sarf East London in '74. 'Three and a Half Letters' from Chickenfoot III leaves you in no doubt that these guys are no one trick ponies." That was part of our take when we last saw Joe Satriani with Chickenfoot at Brixton Academy in January 2012 (pictured) and Joe returns solo to London tonight at Hammersmith Apollo as part of G3 with pals Uli Jon Roth at 7.30pm, John Petrucci at 8.30pm followed by Satriani at 9.35pm.

Groundhog Day 24/4/18

"They opened with Funkas' (never was a surname more appropriate) cool bassline on 'River' followed by 'Trust Yourself' - Turner's groovy, gravelly voice and stage presence coming to the fore. After 'Pressure Valve' Black's intro on 'Til The Dawn' took things down tempo for the 'Blues Police' in attendance. Classy. Following 'Share The Ride' and 'Brand New Day' - they covered Taj Mahal's 'Leaving Trunk' which grooved and rocked in true 60's/70's acknowledgement. However, after 'Healing Hands' they saved their best cover to last - sending one young lady near me into rapture (who was wearing the same boots as Helen apparently) - with Zep's 'Since I've Been Loving You' - faultless - as was the rest of the set - a standard that was going to dictate the rest of the evening." This was the first time we saw Born Healer at London's 100 Club in November 2015 supporting Corky Laing - and the band return to the same venue tonight supporting Crow Black Chicken and The Groundhogs.

A Fabulous Hour Of Music 24/4/18

On today's Blues On The Radio Track Of The Day they've managed to squeeze in The Voodoo Sheiks, Too Slim & The Taildraggers, The Bluesbones, Catfish, George Shovlin & The Radars, The Sharpees, Cherry Lee Mewis (pictured), Samantha Martin & Delta Sugar, Trevor Babajack Steger, Big Joe Shelton, Little Boys Blue, Ma Polaines Great Decline and The Chris Bevington Organisation.

Ghost In The Glass 24/4/18

Intense, sensual and arcane, Diamond Black are a dark-Rock quartet based in London. Founded by Ben Christo (guitarist with The Sisters of Mercy), the band deliver crushing riffs, mesmerising electronica and cinematic choruses: a dark fusion of irreverence, intrigue and isolation. Inspired by the heaviness of Katatonia, the passion of Depeche Mode, the haunting soundscapes of Type O Negative and the anthemic quality of The Cult, Diamond Black weave tangled tales of desire, decadence and devotion. 'Ghost In The Glass’ (today's Video Of The Day) is the pounding, soaring follow-up to ‘Sorrow’, maintaining the haunting heaviness of its predecessor while showcasing another shade of Diamond Black. The single arrives hot on the heels of a well received run of UK dates (their first ever live shows) with Swiss Alt/Goth/Folk/Prog pioneers Cellar Darling.

Bude Blues Rhythm & Rock Festival 23/4/18

Traditionally held in Ilfracombe, this year over the weekend of 9th-11th November they are relocating the Blues Rhythm & Rock Festival just 17 miles down the road and crossing the border into North Cornwall to Penstowe Manor, a really tasteful intimate venue near Bude. To match such a phenomenal set of musicians including Focus, Thorbjørn Risager & The Black Tornado and Wishbone Ash, the venue itself and location of the festival had to be just as impressive.  Situated in a beautiful part of the country, set in private grounds, the holiday resort has a wide range of self catering accommodation and facilities that include two bars, restaurant and take away, indoor heated swimming pool, on site gymnasium, coffee shop and an amusement room!

Revivalists Nominated 23/4/18

The nominees for the 2018 Billboard Music Awards have been revealed and our American WRC correspondent Rick Menniti is rightly over the moon. Yes The Revivalists have been  nominated for best Rock song for 'Wish I Knew You' - today's Video Of The Day. We've followed the guys on their way up the ladder and the band have tough competition in Imagine Dragons,  Linkin Park ft. Kiiara and Portugal. The Man. You can see the full list of nominations here

Hot Blues Nights 23/4/18

Music this week includes Allman Goldflies Band, Blues Corp, Bluff City Backsliders, Eric Bibb & JJ Milteau, Freddie Pate, Hardchargers and Johnny Drummer.

Run With The Pack 22/4/18

Norwegian melodic Rock queen Issa (Video Of The Day) is back with her fifth studio album 'Run With The Pack' released last Friday. As with her past releases, the new record is a dream come true for melodic Rock fans with its huge sounding vocals and soaring melodies. This time around, Issa has partnered with Italian producer and keyboard wizard Alessandro Del Vecchio to mix things up, also bringing in Simone Mularoni of Italian Progressive Metal giants DGM to play guitar and Andrea ToWer Torricini (Vision Divine) and Marco Di Salvia (Kee of Hearts) holding down the rhythm section. Revolution Saints frontman and drummer Deen Castronovo (also ex-Journey) also performs a duet with Issa on the song ‘Sacrifice Me’.

James Christian Craving 22/4/18

House of Lords singer James Christian has a long standing reputation as a fine songwriter and producer in his own right. His first solo album, ‘Rude Awakening’, was originally released in 1994 and is still highly regarded by fans of AOR. Following the return of House of Lords in the early 2000’s, he released another classy effort in ‘Meet The Man’ (2004), which featured the songwriting of AOR luminaries such as Stan Bush and Judithe Randall as well as his then House of Lords bandmates Chuck Wright and Lanny Cordola. Almost a decade later he stepped back onto the scene with ‘Lay It All On Me’. The brand new ’Craving’ (today's Track Of The Day), released last Friday,  is his fourth solo record and another beautifully crafted melodic Rock release as well as strong personal statement from this mature artist and performer. The album features songwriting contributions from Tommy Denander, Chris Pelcer, Jimi Bell, Clif Magness, Alessandro Del Vecchio, Richard Hymas, Charlie Mason and Jeff Kent.

Here Come AWOLNATION 22/4/18

In support of their new album 'Here Come The Runts' released at the beginning of February, AWOLNATION have recently embarked on a headlining tour in Canada and the States before crossing the pond for a European/UK run throughout the month of April which stops off at London's Scala in King's Cross tonight. Serving as a follow up to the platinum-certified debut album 'Megalithic Symphony', and 2015’s 'Run', which included US No. 1 hit ‘Hollow Moon (Bad Wolf)’ as well as Top 5 tracks ‘I Am’ and ‘Woman Woman', AWOLNATION’s third undertaking sees Aaron Bruno once again at the helm producing, writing and recording the new studio album.

Rhino's Putney Revenge 21/4/18

"The exceptional ‘Bad News’ raised the roof! A monumental rocker and huge crowd pleaser. Another worthy Quo classic written solely by Rhino from the ‘In Search Of The Fourth Chord’ album. This was also Rhino’s first lead vocal on a Quo album. The Bob Seger & the Silver Bullet Band cover ‘Old Time Rock & Roll’ was rattled through with passion and vigour. Leading seamlessly on to the quirky and amusing ‘My Name Is Stan’, a fast tempo Rock epic that gets everyone singing along to its anthemic chorus. “My name is Stan, I am the man, top dog you understand, I lick my balls because I can, don’t mess with Stan the man”. Profound lyrics if ever there was! This quality track is from the ‘Rhino’s Revenge II’ album."

Read Steven C. Gilbert's Rhino's Revenge review from last Friday night's gig at London's Half Moon in Putney here, plus check out today's Video Of The Day.

Dublin Rocket's 21/4/18

Explosive Brighton based Heavy Rock trio The Rocket Dolls released their new full length new studio album 'DeadHead' earlier this month (see today's Track Of The Day) and the band are currently on the road  for UK live dates including London's Dublin Castle in Camden tonight. Featuring just the right amount of melody with straight up hook laden driven riffs combined with curveballs when you least expect them, 'DeadHead' is a must hear album for 2018. Relentless in their approach, The Rocket Dolls have taken the Rock mould, smashed it, and then meticulously pieced it back together again to deliver a fresh contemporary collection of music that combines the best bits of Heavy Rock, Grunge, Punk and Pop smart sensibilities. It's clear the band have spent time wisely crafting their second album, as it's a monster!

Record Store Day Today! 21/4/18

For today's 2018 RSD events and participating stores go here.

The Exploding Boy 20/4/18

With their unique mixture of genres like Indie, Post Punk and Gothic, The Exploding Boy have made a name for themselves in respective scenes. The Swedes provide another taste of their new and fifth album 'Alarms!' - due to be released on Friday 18th May - with their second single 'The Day' (today's Video Of The Day) - all about the world we live in and that the terror and the threats will never bring us down - what you destroy, we will rebuild!

Everything About You 20/4/18

"Casually taking the stage Whitfield Crane and the gang burst into life with a fantastic sound much missed by their loyal fans – 16 whole years suddenly burst out as if it were only played the week before and they hadn’t been away at all! Still the crush was on as a great mixture of songs came bursting through the small gap in front of me as fans were pushed, moshed and generally climbed on in a effort to get the smallest of touches of Whitfield. A powerful voice and fantastic spot on performance from the rest of the guys (including the female session drummer) gave us an absolute humdinger of a night to remember ending with 'Everything About You'.

That was part of Wrinkly The Silver Fox's take on Ugly Kid Joe at Camden's The Underworld in June 2012 (pictured) and the guys return to London tonight at the Shepherd's Bush Empire

Long Live The King 19/4/18

"Landreth's 30th birthday dedication to fan Adam before 'Hell At Home' (another track that got the unplugged treatment on 'Recorded Live in Lafayette'), emphasised the fact that the 229 was not completely full of silver sliders tonight, as Sonny's strong Zydeco influences came to the fore, proving there was indeed still rythym down by the bayou. "Now we've got that one out of our system - here's one for all the ladies in the house!" enticed Landreth. Sonny's right-hand technique, which involves tapping, slapping, and picking strings, using all of the fingers on his right hand was never more evident than on these two final instrumentals in his set, namely 'Brave New Girl' which morphed into 'Native Stepson'."

Today read AJ's complete Sonny Landreth/Soul Immigrants gig review from Sunday night at London's 229 The Venue here, plus check out our Photo Gallery here and today's Video Of The Day.

Jammer Raven To Go Tonight 19/4/18

Deutsche Vita 19/4/18

For almost three decades J.B.O. (Track Of The Day) have withstood genre trends like Grunge, Pagan Metal, Metalcore, Nu Metal or whatever else they are called. Nowadays they are as successful as ever – even in places which many wouldn’t expect. J.B.O. work perfectly at big Metal festivals as well as in local scene bars, beer tents or at a Spring-Break-Event - their comedy Metal is still absolutely unique. Their recently released album 'Deutsche Vita', J.B.O.'s 12th studio record, is a collection of funny cover versions of German Pop songs which influenced the band during their career. It is their unusual and unique mixture of Hard Rock music and a weird-ingenious-humour, that has brought J.B.O. cult status. Consisting of Vito C. (vocals/guitar), Hannes "G.Laber" Holzmann (vocals/guitar), Ralph Bach (bass) and Wolfram Kellner (drums), J.B.O. are currently on tour in Germany with support from Rammelhof.

Love Lives On 18/4/18

The career of acclaimed Blues-Soul artist Dana Fuchs began in her late teens when she ignited Manhattan’s Blues-Rock circuit with  her burnt-honey vocal and bruisingly honest songwriting. With a voice acclaimed by Classic Rock magazine in a Blues album of the month review as “juke-joint dirty and illicit, evoking Joplin, Jagger and a fag butt bobbing in a glass of bourbon”, a trio of soul-drenched studio releases signalled her talent, while in between records she starred in the Broadway musical ‘Love, Janis’ and made her big screen debut as Sexy Sadie in the film ’Across The Universe’, which was centred on songs by The Beatles. Dana now returns with ‘Love Lives On’, her fourth album out on Friday 18th May on Get Along Records/Membran and one on which she fights back from personal tragedy with a sound inspired by the siren call of American Soul. ‘Love Lives On’ features a crack-squad studio band that includes original Hi Records organist Charles Hodges, Stax titan Steve Potts on drums, keys ace Glenn Patscha and bassist Jack Daley.

Levellers Liberty 18/4/18

Brighton Folk-Punk band Levellers have recently released the video for their newly reworked and acoustic version of ‘Liberty Song’, taken from their new album, 'We The Collective', which is out now via On The Fiddle Recordings and is today's Track Of The Day. The new album, which coincides with the band’s 30th anniversary, was recorded at Abbey Road Studios and produced by John Leckie. It features a string section and new acoustic arrangements for eight of their previous singles including ‘Hope Street’ and ‘One Way’. The band will also head out on a full Acoustic Tour starting in June where they will be playing their new arrangements with guest musicians.

Best Of Hands 18/4/18

The buzz has been spreading about City Of Thieves ever since they made their initial debut in 2015. No frills, no messin', no gimmicks – just Heavy Rock in its purest form that will send you straight to the front of the stage with no nonsense sledgehammer riffs, hooks and melodies. Working with acclaimed artist/producer Toby Jepson (Little Angels, The Answer, The Virginmarys),  band members Jamie Lailey - vocals/bass, Ben Austwick - guitar and Will Richards - drums, knew from the outset that City Of Thieves wanted to take Rock by the scruff of its neck and give it a good shake.  With Jepson at the helm, Mike Fraser on mixing duties and mastering by Simon Francis (Kodaline, Kaiser Chiefs, Primal Scream), the group’s long anticipated debut album, entitled ‘Beast Reality’, due to be released on Friday 12th October, is in the best of hands. Indeed their debut single 'Buzzed Up City' is today's Video Of The Day and the guys will be playing London's The Big Red on Wednesday 30th May. We'll see you down the front!

Oh Sonny 17/4/18

"How are you folks doing?" Sonny politely enquired as his three-piece band were warmly welcomed on to the 229 stage by a packed and expectant crowd. Indeed, anyone expecting Slydeco unplugged were totally blown away with the hard rockin' riff of opening instrumental 'Z Rider' - Landreth immediately caressing his guitar in a way which proceeded to mesmerise us all for the rest of his set. "Well that was fun" added Landreth, before they tore into the classic 'Walking The Blues', not only an opportunity for Robert Johnson to meet ZZ Top, but also for a cool Blues vocal by Sonny plus some great stick work from his flat capped drummer. Landreth's amazing guitar solo on the slow Blues of another classic - Elmore James' 'It Hurts Me Too' - had everyone scratching their heads on how on earth did bass guitarist Dave Ramsden manage to keep up with that, before, in contrast, Sonny then promised to "Whip us up into a frenzy" with 'Milky Way Home' - another rockin' instrumental that smacked of Satriani."

Virtuoso slide guitarist Sonny Landreth played a rare concert at London's 229 The Venue in Great Portland Street last night, hot on the heels of his 'Recorded Live in Lafayette', a 16-song album and his first live album in over 12 years. Landreth has collaborated with the very top names in guitar over the years: Eric Clapton, Mark Knopfler, Eric Johnson, Derek Trucks – the list goes on. The noted slideman cut his musical teeth in The Red Hot Louisiana Band of zydeco king Clifton Chenier, and Landreth has since recorded and toured with artists ranging from John Mayall to John Hiatt. With great support from The Soul Immigrants and with a review and photo gallery to come - check out today's Video Of The Day.

Luck Of The Irish 16/4/18

Glenn Hughes, the former bassist and singer of Deep Purple, known to millions as the ‘Voice of Rock’, Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee, and the current front man for rock super group Black Country Communion, will be performing Deep Purple only material with his “Glenn Hughes Performs Classic Deep Purple Live ”for the first time ever in Ireland this September ahead of his nationwide UK tour in October. The two dates in Belfast (29th -  £30) and  Dublin (30th - £35) promise to be a dynamic, turn-back-the-clocks, two-hour live extravaganza homage to his tenure in MK 3 and MK 4 incarnations of Deep Purple - one of music history’s most seminal and influential Rock and Roll groups.

Sonny At 229 Tonight 15/4/18

Following on from the release of his latest double album and the Grammy nominee’s back-to-back Blues Music Awards for Best Guitarist and Best Blues Album for 'Bound by the Blues' - virtuoso slide guitarist and bandleader Sonny Landreth is playing London's 229 The Venue in Great Portland Street tonight. Last June, after a dozen acclaimed albums, Landreth decided the time was right for a career-spanning double-live album. 'Recorded Live in Lafayette' is a 16-song opus that covers more musical ground than any single album ever could, as the singer and songwriter’s work stretches and twists across 93 minutes of full-band acoustic and electric bottleneck lightning. The double CD and vinyl release on Provogue includes the most extensive acoustic set ever recorded by Landreth.  Live favorites 'Hell at Home' and 'U.S.S. Zydecoldsmobile' also get the unplugged treatment, alongside a rare rendition of 'Creole Angel' and the evergreen 'Key to the Highway'.

British Blues Explosion - Live 15/4/18

Joe Bonamassa, the two-time Grammy-nominated Blues Rock guitar icon, who completes his UK and European tour at London's Hampton Court Palace on Tuesday 12th  June, will release 'British Blues Explosion Live' on Friday 18th May via Mascot Label Group. The DVD and Blu-ray includes amazing bonus content such as Joe performing 'Taxman' Live at the Cavern Club, Joe being honoured with a “Brick In The Wall”, the British Blues Explosion Explained by Mick Wall and a photo gallery of the British Blues Explosion UK Tour. A Salute to the British Blues Explosion, featuring the unbelievable music of Eric Clapton, Jeff Beck, and Jimmy Page, sees Joe paying tribute to his British Blues heroes, recorded at Greenwich Music Time at The Old Royal Naval College in Greenwich, London on July 7th 2016 (see today's Video Of The Day). The five-piece band included Michael Rhodes (bass), Reese Wynans (keyboards), Anton Fig (drums) and Russ Irwin (rhythm guitar and backing vocals).

Syrah & Co. 15/4/18

'Nachtblume' is not only the title track of the 8th album by QNTAL, but it's also their third single and is also today's Track Of The Day. The song embodies all the characteristics of Syrah and Co.: piercing, almost sacral vocals, elegiac harmonies and oscillating electronics that alltogether create a solemn aura. The new album 'VIII - Nachtblume' was released last month and QNTAL are also due to make live appearances on 27/4 in Mechelen (BE) - Festival von Vlaanderen, 4/5 München (DE) - Backstage, 20/5 Leipzig (DE) - Wave Gotik Treffen and 7/9 Selb (DE) - Festival Mediaval.

Pushing Up Daisies 14/4/18

"Rock is dead! Rock is dead! There is no great guitar music being made any more they say. Piffle, tosh and hogwash I say to them. Music has always been a transient art and quality will always survive. It goes in cycles with popular music being guided by the masses. If it’s good, it will be created by those who love it. It’s a bit like the way we listen to music. Vinyl, changed to 8 track, to cassette to minidisc to CD to MP3 and now back again to vinyl. And so it is with the music, it changes with the times and goes in cycles. So much of our current music is based upon, or even covers of, songs of yesteryear. Reports of Rocks death is greatly exaggerated. The life blood of Rock music these days is not the vast record sales of yesteryear. With downloadable music draining the funds from artists, they turn to live touring to make a living. It’s Rock’s ‘live-support’ system if you like. So gigs like tonight’s triumvirate of talented bands is the beating heart of today’s reviving Rock scene with the attending punters the life blood. Time to get donating."

Coast Of Gold 14/4/18

Their home town of Hyvinkää is better known as Finland’s hotbed of black Metal. Something of a deviation from the norm, power Metal gunners Thaurorod have one by one felled every obstacle in their way, including a revolving door of members in their formative years. The trio of founders however; Pasi Tanskanen, Joonas Pykälä-aho and Emil Pohjalainen have stuck together through thick and thin. 'Coast Of Gold', their new album, which was released in February this year, takes you seaborne and to lands unknown with unforgettable power Metal shanties such as 'Power' that blows the wax out of your ears like a sea breeze and tickles the sweet spot of your melodic sensibilities, the impossibly catchy 'Cannibal Island' and the inimitable title track (today's Track Of The Day) that will linger in your ears for days on end.

Saxon To Reissue Three Classic Albums 14/4/18

BMG are set to re-issue three Saxon classic albums: 'Denim and Leather', 'Power & The Glory' and 'Crusader' on Friday 25th May. The CDs are 24 page media books containing original lyrics, rare photos and memorabilia, and they will feature bonus tracks including a selection of early demos - some of which that didn't make final track listings; B sides and live recordings. Saxon, over the decades have gone from being pioneers of the New Wave Of British Heavy Metal, to becoming one of the most successful UK Rock acts of all time. The truth, though, is that Saxon have always transcended trends and eras. From 1979's 'Saxon' album to new album ‘'Thunderbolt’', the band have enjoyed considerable success. Five Top 40 albums in the UK, with four Top 20 singles and they were similarly successful in other parts of the world as well. It's no wonder their influence spread across the globe, and played a crucial role in the way we look at Hard Rock and Heavy Metal today.

Fearless Gus G. 13/4/18

In a world where only the best come out on top, Gus G. is one of the most respected and renowned Rock Metal guitarists of our time. He played the biggest stages worldwide between 2009 and 2017 as a member of superstar Ozzy Osbourne’s band and enhanced Ozzy’s album 'Scream' (2010) with his amazing dexterity. In addition, Gus has been a known quantity on the melodic power Metal scene as the founder and figurehead of his own group Firewind for some twenty years and can look back on eight studio albums and numerous tours so far. The third pillar of his exceptionally fruitful career is his work as a solo artist, having released his two much acclaimed albums 'I Am The Fire' (2014) and 'Brand New Revolution' (2015). Gus is now set to continue this successful series with 'Fearless' (Video Of The Day) - due for release next Friday 20th April on AFM Records. The exceptional Greek-born guitarist's new band features vocalist/bassist Dennis Ward (Pink Cream 69/Unisonic) and drummer Will Hunt (Evanescence, Black Label Society), subsequently recording twelve new songs on 'Fearless' -  nine vocal numbers and three instrumentals.

Light reflecting glass prisms accompanied the cinematic soundscapes of one of Metal's biggest and most bombastic live bands.

The Alligator Bride 12/4/18

Howlin Rain has announced the release of its fifth album, 'The Alligator Bride', due on Friday 8th June via founding member Ethan Miller's artist run label, Silver Current Records. A set of swampy, ragged, and unapologetic Rock 'n' Roll, Miller's merry band of pranksters tracked the record over three days with engineer Eric "King Riff" Bauer at the Mansion in San Francisco, playing live to tape and cutting the material in first and second takes. The first single and title track was released last Friday and is today's Track Of The Day. For 'The Alligator Bride,' Miller and company drew inspiration from classic Rock formations such as The Grateful Dead's 'Europe '72', Mountain Bus' 1974 burner 'Sundance' and Free's masterpiece of atmospheric, minimalist Blues, 1969's 'Fire and Water'.

By Blood Sworn 12/4/18

Guitarist Ross the Boss’ stature in the history of Hard Rock and Heavy Metal has been well-solidified for decades by this point - with a resume including some of the most influential and hardest-hitting bands of all-time, particularly both the Dictators and Manowar. And he continues to Rock - as a member of the group DeathDealer, and also, as the leader of his own solo outfit, which has issued such stellar releases as ‘Hailstorm', 'New Metal Leader' and his latest offering, ‘By Blood Sworn'.  Joined by Marc Lopes on vocals and keys, Mike LePond on bass and Lance Barnewold on drums for the sessions (Steve Bolognese will beat the skins on the album’s tour), ‘By Blood Sworn’ was produced by Dean Rispler, and will be released next Friday 20th April via AFM Records as RTB continue their world tour.

Flames Are Calling 11/4/18

Mutant Proof will be releasing their eponymous catchy debut album produced by Siggi Bemm on Friday 27th April. A fresh mix of Punk rhythms, Rock melodies, Metal riffs and highly relevant lyrics, check out the upbeat but intense Rock tune of the album opener 'Flames Are Calling' - today's Video Of The Day - which is  enough to burn the album into memory where it's guaranteed to linger. The experienced musicians from Dortmund (previous bands include Phantoms Of Future, Backlash, Regatta de Blanc, Powerball) set themselves apart from the usual mishmash and combine their various influences into ten exciting and catchy songs, that draws inspiration from a wide variety of influences, ranging from the Foo Fighters, The Clash and The Ramones, to Kiss and Kreator, and all the way to Mother’s Finest, Depeche Mode and The Police. The final result is a rousing power mix from the heart of the Ruhr Valley!

Danny Bryant CD Review 10/4/18

"With it's distinctive 'Wall of Spector Sound' intro, 'Shouting At The Moon' is a ballad that Danny wrote for his Dad about the last night they spent together before he passed away. Add Richard Hammerton's production and writing, and Bryant really delivers both lyrically and musically, a window to the soul in the style that his father loved, with both a falsetto vocal chorus - smacking of Bowie - plus a guitar solo - in the spirit of Gilmour. Hammerton's keys carry the verse on 'Sister Decline' before Bryant's hypnotic guitar riff and his brass section kick in - a song all about temptation and addiction. A track where an old Blues shuffle and contemporary Rock deliciously collide - the energy of which will provide yet another live favourite."

Daisies To Bloom In London Tonight 10/4/18

"Their set was a mixture of their own tracks such as the radio friendly 'Lock and Load' as well as a string of covers such as The Who’s ‘Join Together With The Band’, Judas Priests ‘Living After Midnight’ and a rocked up version of ‘Helter Skelter’. I would have been happy for them to go on all night – they rocked the room with the same energy and vigour that they showed 25 years ago. I don’t know what they are on, but can I have some please?" That was part of our take the last time we saw The Dead Daisies at Camden's Electric Ballroom in November 2016 (pictured) and tonight the band return to London at Mornington Crescent's Koko.

Big Boy Bloater's Pills 9/4/18

Big Boy Bloater & The LiMiTs will be releasing their brand new album 'Pills' on Friday 15th June via Provogue/Mascot Label Group. Following on from 2016’s 'Luxury Hobo', Britain's larger-than-life Blues personality re-focusses himself and 'Pills' is a reflection of him having a clearer head. Recorded in December 2017 with producer Adam Whalley, the band trimmed down to a power trio of Big Boy (vocals/guitar), Matt Cowley (drums) and Steven Oates (bass) for the new album and it kicks off with the rip-roaring title track 'Pills' (Video Of The Day), an extension from the previous album and highlights the constant need for pills today but has a sinister edge. More than ever, the band effortlessly flit through styles and pace creating an album full of depth, emotion, humour, anger and sheer fun, all the time keeping the thread that makes Big Boy Bloater & The LiMiTs such a unique proposition. 'Pills' marks an even more ambitious direction for The LiMiTs, combining a melting pot of ideas beyond its Blues roots and entwines Bloater's dark humour and personal experiences.

Temple Of Lies 9/4/18

Few German Rock acts can look back at as long and successful a career as Bonfire. Counting their predecessor – a group called Cacumen, which was also founded by Hans Ziller and featured more or less the same line-up – the band has been around since 1972, has operated under its current moniker since 1986 and released more than two dozen albums. During the most successful phase of their career, Bonfire counted – alongside the Scorpions and Accept – among Germany’s three internationally most acclaimed acts, celebrating major success all over Europe and worldwide. Bonfire’s trademarks are, and have always been, deeply melodic Hard Rock songs, driven by captivating guitars, grooving rhythms and haunting vocal melodies. All the features that came together so perfectly on their most popular releases 'Fireworks' (1987), 'Point Blank' (1989) and 'Branded' (2011) are present on 'Temple Of Lies' - to be released this Friday 13th April. Thanks to their new vocalist Alexx Stahl, who joined the fold two years ago, and a first-rate line-up on all instruments, the band’s creativity explodes on 'Temple Of Lies' and is bound to wow a younger generation of Rock music fans, too.

Prowling For The Blues 9/4/18

Today's Black On Blues Track Of The Day includes music from Walter Wolfman Washington, The Milk Men, Tensfield, The Blues Bones, Rev Raven and Peter V Blues Train.

Pushing Up Daisies 8/4/18

Brothers Osborne have recently released today's Video Of The Day ‘Pushing Up Daisies (Love Alive)’, which is taken from their forthcoming album 'Port Saint Joe', due out on Friday 20th April via Snakefarm Records. 'Port Saint Joe' also features the lead single ‘Shoot Me Straight’, which went directly onto the Planet Rock Radio A-list. In addition, the duo’s first ever headline tour of the UK and Ireland, set to take place in May, is now virtually sold-out, with just a handful of tickets remaining for the Dublin, Belfast and Bristol shows only, and the venue in Glasgow having to be upgraded due to phenomenal demand. Illinois songwriter/ vocalist/guitarist Kendell Marvel, who co-wrote with the Brothers on certain of the latest songs, including  ‘Pushing Up Daisies (Love Alive)’, supports across the aforementioned dates.

Cherry's Voyage 8/4/18

Cherry Lee Mewis new EP release, 'Voyage' is now available here for pre-order, a six-track-breath-of-fresh-air with an added three Nashville produced bonus tracks to boot. The writing on this record has evolved from previous recordings and fans will find a flavour of something different artistically while staying true to the classic Cherry Lee Mewis sound. Those 'be yourself', good-time, fist-pumping, barn-burning songs that her audiences have come to love. Written once again by Cherry and her co-writer and guitarist of twelve years, Max Milligan, her band also includes Nick Slater (dobro), Robbie Stewart-Mathews (double bass & blues harp) and Brian Greene/Flow (drums).

On The Brink 8/4/18

Influenced by great Rock bands of both the past and present, The Brink bring new life and energy to today’s scene with their vibrant 21st Century form of balls-to-the-wall Rock N’ Roll and the band recently released their new single 'Little Janie' (today's Track Of The Day) on Thursday. They also have a hard-earned reputation as one of the hardest working young bands around. Starting out in Wisbech and Cambridge, the group have quietly worked their way up the ladder to headline in cities such as London, Manchester, Newcastle, Sheffield, Nottingham and Lincoln. Following two self-released EP’s, they signed to Frontiers in 2017 and have been recording a debut album with producer Nick Tauber (Thin Lizzy, UFO, Marillion) for release in the Autumn. Meanwhile, they can be seen on tour in April, including Frontiers New Breed Night on Thursday 26th April at London's The Black Heart in Camden, which will also feature Doomsday Outlaw and Dirty Thrills

Second Coming Photo Gallery 7/4/18

If indeed Greta Van Fleet were heralded as the second coming of Led Zeppelin, then what we didn't expect at the O2 Academy, Islington, on Thursday night was the second coming of The Rolling Stones in the guise of London's very own, and aptly named, The Second Sons (pictured and  today's Video Of The Day). It was all a thoroughably enjoyable night of great live retro music and you can check out our Photo Gallery from the gig here

Hell In My Eyes 7/4/18

Pulled from Falling Red's recently released album 'Lost Souls', 'Hell In My Eyes' (today's Track Of The Day) bites with a killer chorus, standing as a true earwig and sure-fire crowd pleaser for their upcoming tour dates! Following the release of 'Hell In My Eyes', the super-sleazy quartet from Northwest England band will release one final single from the album (with an accompanying lyric video) before taking off on a selection of headline gigs and festivals over the coming months, with some Irish and European dates yet to be announced.

Supersonic Blues Machine European Tour 7/4/18

Supersonic Blues Machine & Friends with very special guest Billy F. Gibbons will be coming to the UK for their debut headline show at London’s prestigious, O2 Shepherds Bush Empire on Wednesday 4th July. Following the release of two acclaimed albums ‘West of Flushing, South of Frisco’ (2016), ‘Californisoul’ (2017) and a triumphant performance on the mainstage at Ramblin’ Man Fair last Summer,  the band are embarking on their first ever European tour. For this tour they welcome rising star Kris Barras on all dates with former guitarist Lance Lopez concentrating on his recent solo release and touring in support of it. Kris has exploded to the front of the British Blues Rock pack with his new album ‘The Divine And Dirty’ released last month and will be joining the line-up following his own April-May UK tour with Beth Hart. Together with its guests and Kris Barras, the band is also bringing along  keyboard wiz Alex Alessandroni Jr (Stevie Wonder, Pink, Paul Stanley, Whitney Houston and many more), the backing vocals Supersonnets (credits spanning from Mary J. Blige, Christina Aguilera, Jon Anderson, Shakira) and Fabrizio’s co-writer partner for the majority of SBM catalogue Serge Simic on second guitar and vocals. For the London show they will also be joined by Blues-Rocker Davy Knowles who counts Bernie Marsden and Joe Satriani amongst his admirers, the latter declaring that he is his “favourite modern Bluesman.”

Fleet Foxes 6/4/18

When you're touted as the second coming of Led Zeppelin, then boy, you'd better be good! Greta Van Fleet, all the way from the idyllic Michigan village of Frankenmuth (population 5,000), played the second of their two sold out O2 Islington Academy gigs in London last night! A modern Rock and Roll band, who are all about creating arena-sized anthems, super-sized hooks and rejuvenating the genres that influenced them so much, subsequently blew everyone away - their setlist, as expected, leaning heavily on the quality of last year's debut album 'From The Fires'. They also threw in a great cover of Howlin' Wolf's 'Evil' complemented by an encore of fan favourites 'Black Smoke Rising' and 'Safari Song'. Anyway, with more photos to come - check out today's Video Of The Day.

Ginger Spice 6/4/18

The legendary Ginger Baker, now 78 years young, returned to his home city last Tuesday night - albeit North of the Thames for this Lewisham lad. Baker, of course made his big break as a the inspirational drummer and founder of Cream and played with them from 1966 until they disbanded in 1968. Fifty years later Ginger was back tubthumping at Camden's Jazz Cafe, with his three Jazz amigos, namely percussionist Abass Dodoo (from Edmonton not Ghana), saxophonist Pee Wee Willis and on double bass and guitar Alec Dankworth (pictured). Unfortunately due to Ginger's well-documented health problems, it was quality rather than quantity including 'Ginger Spice', 'Cyril Davies' and 'Aïn Témouchent' - but the legends's anecdotes more than made up for the short setlist. Supported by young Jazz quintet PYJÆN, who blended Traditional Jazz, Bebop and Swing with modern-day contemporary Jazz and Harmony - check out our Photo Gallery from the night here.

Greta Van Fleet's influences are varied, mainly rooted in their parents' vast vinyl collection that includes Led Zeppelin amongst others!

Never Say Die 5/4/18

For eight years now Dead City Ruins (Video Of The Day) has been going strong without letting anything distract them from their mission. This is exactly the attitude which these five rockers from Melbourne, Australia, adhere to, not only on tour, but every day of their lives. Dead City Ruins plow ahead with everything they’ve got, and you can hear this in every note of their new album, 'Never Say Die' which is due to be released next Friday 13th April. Jake Wiffen (vocals), Tommy Cain (guitar), Sean Blanchard (guitar), Matthew Berg (bass) and Nick Trajanovski (drums) play Rock and Roll as if their lives depended on it. Recorded in Melbourne, the album has the same intensity that made the iconic albums of the Seventies, Eighties and Nineties so special. In short, it has soul.

Ginger Back Tonight 3/4/18

"So step forward on to the Shepherd's Bush Empire stage Mr. Baker - who six month's after his heart operation - hasn't fully recovered. In perhaps the most poignant moment of the evening Ginger told the story of the 1962 Cambridge University May Ball as he and Dick Heckstall Smith were approached by a scruffy little bugger (Jack) who persisted that he wanted to sit and play. Anyway, to suss Jack out, Dick and Ginger played a ballad with numerous chord changes and subsequently adopted wee Jack who moved from Glasgow to London to play in Johnny Parker's Band. Baker concluded "I'm still here, but Jack isn't, which is very sad - we played some great music together" - then Ginger - despite his health problems - proceeded to play a two minute drum solo with his percussionist pal Abbass from Ghana. Amazing." That was part of our 'An Evening For Jack' Shepherd's Bush Empire review from October 2016 and Ginger Baker (pictured) returns to London tonight at Camden's Jazz Cafe.
