Kris Barras Band CD Review 31/10/19

"Working with The Supersonic Blues Machine has definitely influenced Kris Barras’ writing style; his songs already contained strong hooks, particularly displayed on previous album ‘The Divine & The Dirty’, but this new set of exuberantly played numbers have a collective anthemic quality with big powerful choruses boosted on record by the presence of female backing vocalists. KB’s trademark riffing is still present but this time there are more rhythmic power chords propelling the numbers, topped off naturally by his increasingly fluid soloing, which flows throughout the 13 new numbers."

Yes To The Moment 31/10/19

Legendary Prog Rock band Yes, has returned to the recordings made in late 2010 to mix four completed tracks as new content for a miniature five piece box set of recordings from that era here, including 'To The Moment', today's Track Of The Day. The box features two booklets and three discs containing the four studio tracks and 'Live From Lyon 2009', all of which were recorded by the line-up of Chris Squire, Steve Howe, Alan White, Benoit David and Oliver Wakeman. Oliver has personally overseen the preparation of the previously unreleased recordings which were mixed by Karl Groom and mastered by Mike Pietrini. The box and one of the booklets features new artwork by Roger Dean, and the graphic design was undertaken by Wakeman, plus the set also includes his newly written liner notes about his time in the band.

The Cult Subterania Gig Review 30/10/19

"The soon sweaty and 600 strong-crowd were jumping at the front on the Cult’s arrival to stage, taking us back in time. A few numbers outside the ‘Sonic Temple’ list were introduced as a break from their current routine, while the main songs such as ‘Fire Woman’, ’Edie’ and ‘New York City’ were included. A short speech by Ian Astbury at reaching his lowest ebb after being hospitalised in New York back in 2009, gave credit to his long-time music partner Billy Duffy as one of those who pulled him through and to the crowd he never expected to be playing to at this time, on a good as sold out UK tour."

Monroe UK Tour Kicks Off Tonight 30/10/19

Following both his European mainland tour and the release of his new album, 'One Man Gang', which has been getting rave reviews, Michael Monroe kicks off his ten date UK tour tonight at London's O2 Islington Academy. A genuine Rock star since birth, the former Hanoi Rocks man innately knows exactly how to sing, swagger and walk the most glamorous and colourful of walks. With Monroe - vocals, sax and harmonica, Rich Jones - guitar and vocals, Steve Conte - guitar and vocals, Sami Yaffa - bass and Karl Rockfist - drums, the brand new offering on Silver Lining Music is all about the fun of Friday nights, seven days a week, letting your hair down (or up!) for a dirty, dangerous, damn good time, and embracing a total escape into the Rock ‘n’ Roll dream.

Mason Hill's Black Heart Fireworks 30/10/19

WRC 2017 Best Support Band award winners Mason Hill have announced plans for the release of their debut album, 'Against The Wall' (today's Track Of The Day) in 2020, plus the band are also playing four gigs in October/November across the UK, including Camden's The Black Heart in London on Fireworks Night, when they will showcase their new material alongside some old favourites. The album will be recorded next month at Riverside Studios near Glasgow, with much of 2019 spent writing, rehearsing and refining material. The plan is for the album to be self released, with the Glaswegian modern Rock band consisting of Scott Taylor - lead vocals, James Bird - guitar, Marc Montgomery - guitar, Matthew Ward - bass and Craig McFetridge - drums, keen to move forward and give the fans what they have been waiting for. In order to fund recording, mixing, promotion, merch and all the other costs of getting the album out, the band is also running a Kickstarter campaign here

Hollis Brown London Review 29/10/19

"Song after song followed, none outstaying their welcome; each an exercise in concise, skilful song writing and arranging.  Stand out songs for me were the Bo Diddley beat of ‘Rain Dance’,  the swampy Blues of ‘Hey Baby’,  the classic 70’s Rock swagger of aptly titled ‘Rock & Roll’ and the funky groove of ‘Go For It’ with its infectious chorus of “If you want it all, you’ve got to go for it”.  I definitely wanted it all, and more. The last encore was another minor classic from this superb band’s back catalogue, ‘John Wayne’ which started slowly before going crazy on the huge middle section, and again to close the song. Great dynamics from a band that you should make sure you catch next time they come over, which hopefully will be very soon."

It's Only Rock And Roll ..... 28/10/19

We're indebted to our American correspondent Rick Menniti for this picture of The Revivalists, taken back stage in Jacksonville, Florida, when they recently supported The Rolling Stones, no less, on tour. Since they released their very first album 'Vital Signs' in 2010, we had been waiting for these guys to head on over the pond - and, as expected, it was worth the wait, at a sold out London 100 Club in February! After finally breaking through in 2017 with their platinum hit 'Wish I Knew You', the band kept the momentum going with another successful single 'All My Friends', taken from their last album 'Take Good Care', hence their 'Take Good Care' European tour earlier this year.

Joe & Sydney 28/10/19

Last Friday, Joe Bonamassa released 'Live At The Sydney Opera House', his brand new live album featuring recordings from his 2016 performance at one of the world’s most legendary venues, and 'The Valley Runs Low', taken from the album, is today's Track Of The Day. The album includes previously unreleased versions of tracks from his coveted No. 1 album 'Blues Of Desparation' and it' Joe's newest live album, following the 2018 release of 'British Blues Explosion Live', and preceded his latest studio album 'Redemption'. Next year, Joe’s April/May UK tour will feature him performing alongside a hand-picked group of world-class musicians taking in the Brighton Centre (25th April), Edinburgh Playhouse (27th), Liverpool M&S Bank Arena (28th), Gateshead Sage (30th), Leeds First Direct Arena (1st May) and Cardiff Motorpoint Arena (2nd May).

Exhibits Work Of Art 28/10/19

Due to be released on Friday 8th November,  ‘Exhibits’ is the first album in five years from Melodic Rock masters Work Of Art, led by guitarist and producer Robert Säll, and their single 'Be The Believer' is today's Video Of The Day.  The group debuted in 2008 with ‘Artwork’, a record that arrived out of the blue and immediately struck a chord with genre afficionados worldwide. With a sound inspired by greats such as Toto, Giant and Journey, WOA soon established themselves as one of the most promising newcomers in the genre. Expectations for the follow-up album, ‘In Progress’, were sky high, but WOA lived up to the hype and the record was a hit in their home territory of Sweden. Their third album, ‘Framework’, followed in 2014 and kept the momentum going. ‘Exhibits’ is the logical next step for WOA and encompasses all the qualities they have displayed to date. Their most uptempo and straight ahead album thus far, it nevertheless features softer moments, with notable highlights including legendary keyboard player Vince DiCola (writer of the ‘Training Montage’ piece on the Rocky IV soundtrack) as a special guest on ‘This Isn’t Love’. ‘Exhibits' is an album that no AOR fan can afford to miss.

Flight Brigade Photo Gallery 27/10/19

"Infectious . . .  A Gem . . . Unique . . . Masterful Storytellers . . . Excellent Songwriting  . . . Artists . . . Musically Brilliant . . . Emotionally Stirring . . . Lovely Harmonies . . ."  just a few words we used to describe Indie Rock band Flight Brigade's new studio album 'Chased by Wolves' released last month on Rebel Cinema Records via Wixen Music Publishing. So check out our Photo Gallery here (courtesy of Bruce Biege) of the Hampshire based seven-piece band of family members who played London's O2 Academy Islington last Thursday night as part of their UK October tour. The new album follows their debut album 'Our Friends Our Enemies' (2016) and a number of singles.

Today's Video Of The Day of Geoff Carne & The Hatz was recorded live by Andy Banfield at the Superfly Studios, Nottinghamshire, as part of their Superfly Sessions. On the road, Geoff is armed with vocals and guitar while Mick provides the beats with drums/percussion, giving a fresh direction to the Blues based British Rock genre, lying somewhere between the Classic Rock/Blues of Bad Company, the alternative Blues of The White Stripes plus the Black Rebel Motorcycle Club - hence the Indie Rock/Blues tag they've acquired.

Focus On Under The Bridge Tonight 25/10/19

"By definition, a fifty minute set of Prog means five or six songs at most! So imagine my delight as we sat down in the afternoon sun towards the back of a packed Prog In The Park Stage as Menno Gootjes launched into, in my opinion, one of the great guitar solos of all time on 'Eruption' from 'Focus II/Moving Waves' - absolutely bliss. A bit like Trigger's broom, the part's have changed over the year's but the original heartbeat of Thijs van Leer on organ/flute and  Pierre van der Linden on drums  is still alive and kicking as evidenced on their classics 'Sylvia' and 'Hocus Pocus' but now with Udo Pannekeet on bass guitar replacing Van Leer's stepson Bobby Jacobs." That was our take on Focus when we last saw them at Maidstone's Ramblin' Man in July 2017, however, the last time we saw them in London was Camden's Underworld in March 2016 (pictured), and tonight the Dutch Proggers return to our capital city at Chelsea's Under The Bridge with special guest Chantel McGregor.

JD Simo Underworld Review 24/10/19

"Simo then changed his guitar, exclaiming "we love it, yeah, baby Blues" - cue more grimacing from JD and more boots jumpin' from Andraleia on 'Temptation', another from 'Off At 11', before the brilliant, new, riff ridden fire of 'Higher Plane', with another great vocal from Simo, simultaneously putting his pedal to the metal and making his cry bay squeal on its manic outro. And talking of fire, proceedings were literally getting hotter, as the sweat from JD was dripping on to the stage, so why not turn up the heat with a brilliant take on Isaac Hayes' funky 'Hyperbolicsyllabicsesquedalymistic', with the remarkable Simo managing to sweep the guitar spectrum with sounds ranging from Jan Akkerman to The Who. Amazing."

Flight Brigade Academy Tonight 24/10/19

"The only problem I had reviewing this album, and it was a serious problem, is that I couldn't stop from repeating each song multiple, multiple times. It took a long time to get through the album, but thankfully to the excellent narratives (read the narrative for the song 'Sirens') of each song on this album(www.flightbrigade.com), and very late nights, I heard each song . . . multiple times! It really is my favourite album in years, it is excellent. I know we all have different perspectives; we hear differently but I would encourage you to listen to this album; you won't be disappointed." That was part of our take on Flight Brigade's 'Chased By Wolves' album released last month, and the Hampshire based seven-piece band of family members are playing London's O2 Academy Islington tonight as part of their current UK October tour.

With a review to come, Chicago's JD Simo stopped off at London's The Underworld in Camden last Tuesday night, the penultimate night of his current European tour, and we had the pleasure of interviewing JD before the gig, which is today's Track Of The Day. Anyway, listen to our interview here recorded before the gig, where amongst other things we discussed former band Simo, JD's knee, his European and forthcoming US tour, being away from home, recording 'Off At 11' and his next album, his band, pipe smoking, Duck Dunn, Tommy Emmanuel, The Royal Festival Hall, Cindy Walker, The Grateful Dead, Holiday's and Guitar Clinics.

'Solutions' arrived as a breath of fresh air in this somewhat bleak climate, as K.Flay found catharsis in these arduous times, with the acclaimed album consequently being highly praised internationally.

The Jailbirds Black Madonna 23/10/19

Recently signed to a worldwide deal with Golden Robot Records, today's Video Of The Day of Canadian Rockers The Jailbirds is their huge, fuzzed up, classic rocker 'Black Madonna’, taken from their recently released 'The Black River' EP. Featuring Grunge and glamour and a Southern tinge collide with Classic Rock roots,  the power trio – consisting of the intricate guitar work and powerful vocals from Myke Penney, the sludgy bass lines of Liam Hills, and the pounding drums of Eric Parent – have over the last three years performed extensively across Ontario demonstrating, both in the studio and on the stage; they’re a band you simply must hear! Through the course of only four songs, The Jailbirds have established themselves as one of the most promising up and coming independent bands Canada has to offer with a sound that is equally rooted in the Rock and Roll of today as it is in that of the 70's and 80's.

Roadstars Islington Academy Review 21/10/19

"Actually originating from South Carolina, Hannah Wicklund and the Steppin' Stones brought the house down. It's difficult not to get carried away about band leader Hannah Wicklund’s spell-binding guitar and powerful voice which manages to invoke the spirit of Hendrix and Joplin, which has been well-documented elsewhere. Everything from the flowing tousled red hair to the extensive use of wah-wah pedal recalls that period and suggests that she was ripped straight out of Woodstock."

Today read the whole of Ivan De Mello's Roadstars gig review here from London's O2 Academy in Islington on Friday 11th October, featuring Piston, Gorilla Riot and Hannah Wicklund & The Steppin' Stones (pictured) plus check out our Photo Gallery here and our Video Of The Day.

Kadinja's DNA 21/10/19

Today's Track Of The Day is taken from Kadinja's new album, 'DNA' (Dedication.Nostalgia.Addiction) which was released at the end of last month with Arising Empire, and is composed of ten iconic cover songs from the late 90's/early 2000. Through this tribute record, the band added technical and modern Metal touches, for a kind of revival of Rock/Metal masterpieces. This Progressive Metal quintet was founded in Paris in 2013, the same year the band released its first self-titled EP, followed by many shows and festivals such as Lower Tuned, Tech Fest and Euroblast, with bands that are pillars of the Progressive Metal scene. Their previous album 'Super 90’, which came out in January this year, aimed to seduce a larger audience beyond the Metal scene, having more of a conceptual approach, both on the Rock side and going deeper into musical techniques.

Wishbone Ash Photo Gallery 20/10/19

Cut To The Chase 20/10/19

Bristol based Indie Rock band Pompadour will release their debut EP ‘Cut To The Chase’ on Friday 15th November and new single ‘Point Blank' is today's Track Of The Day. The band was founded in early 2018 after college friends and bandmates, Tamsin Sayers (vocals, bass) and Kearney Day (guitar) left their previous band and created their own project with their best friend, Toby Holbrook (drums). Having played on the Discovery Stage at the sprawling Bristol Harbour Festival and at a flagship Nambucca, London, they have since gone on to open for touring bands in other cities and gained more fans. ‘Cut To The Chase’ features five original tracks and is indicative of their own gritty style of Melodic Indie Rock. With a headline showcase EP launch show in Bristol due to be announced in late October, the trio are excited to bring their own blend of relatable and edgy songs with a fun and alluring stage presence to all.

I Found Me 20/10/19

President Street have recently released their latest single ‘I Found Me’ which is today's Video Of The Day. Hailing all the way from Australia, President Street are a Pop-fusion collective, hellbent on making melodically Pop driven tunes, having had an epic 2019 so far, from touring the UK with their national unplugged tour to releasing a string of high energy singles. The new single takes on the lyrical narrative of enjoying life in the blossoming phase of a relationship, with singer Ruby’s commanding vocals and heavily drum driven instrumentals paving the way for a staple Pop-fusion track.

Nine Below Zero CD Review 19/10/19

"The penultimate track, ‘Breadhead’ is a fast paced rocker with Greaves taking charge on the vocals. A vibrant acoustic guitar intro leads into some tasty strutting electric guitar riffing which packs a good ol' punch! A song about the obsession with making loads of money! The last track on the album is ‘I Drink But I Don't Get Drunk’ which has an Americana, Cajun, Bossa Nova type vibe going on. A tantalizing piano intro gets this song under way with vibrant jabbing horns dominating the sound and an exuberant saxophone providing the main riff. Amusing lyrics about drinking! “I think when I should have thunk, I drink but I don't get drunk!” I would rate this album a good nine out of ten. Definitely one of their best. The band are currently on their Fortieth Anniversary Tour ‘Are We There Yet?’. So far seven songs from 'Avalanche' have appeared in the set, which is a good indicator of the quality of the new material."

Today read the whole of Steven C. Gilbert's review of Nine Below Zero's 'Avalanche' CD here, which was released earlier this month, plus check out our Video Of The Day.

Bloater Takes It To The LiMiTs Tonight 19/10/19

"There was just time for one encore, 'This Ain't Rufus', from the latest album, and if you closed your eyes you could just imagine Chuck Berry jumping around on the stage to this one, although when I opened them, my abiding memory was Paul Ronney's head poking out of the dressing room door with a drink in his hand! Once again, this literal larger than life performer had truly rocked the Blues, with his trademark dirty strat Roots and R&B, totally complemented by his humorous lyrics and banter. Yes, we were insanely happy!" That was part of our take on Big Boy Bloater & The LiMiTs at The Black Heart in Camden in September last year (pictured) and the big man returns to the same London venue tonight with support from The Bitter Pills (Track Of The Day).

Lord Monarch Today 19/10/19

Barras Academy Tonight 18/10/19

"Kris tells the story of how, inspired by his dad, he started playing guitars at nine. We lost him, he says, a short time ago to cancer and this is for him. The guitar intro starts and there’s no hiding the inspiration for THIS one - the late, great and lamented Gary Moore. You can tell the proper Kris fans love this one too, the phones are out and if they could the lighters would be out too. They’re right, it’s the song of the night and it’s the solo of the night. You can imagine Kris’s dad having a beer (or possibly a Guinness?) with Gary upstairs and saying “that’s my boy down there!” Even grumpy old Gary would give a grin. Eyes are dabbed and it’s on with 'Wrong Place, Wrong Time'. The Tele is back on and the tempo is back up for an SRV style shuffle." That was part of our take on Kris Barras at London's The Garage in February this year (pictured) and Kris returns to the Smoke tonight, this time at Islington's O2 Academy.

Duly showing off not only his guitar and vocal abilities, but also the incredible rhythm section of drummer and ex-SIMO bro Adam Abrashoff and bassist Andraleia Buch, we were already well acquainted with the Nashville-based singer-guitarist, formerly of SIMO, their albums ‘Let Love Show The Way’ (2016) and ‘Rise & Shine’ (2017) deservedly met with huge praise. His debut solo album, ‘Off At 11’, released this March, is a Psychedelic, free-flowing, dynamic kaleidoscope of sound, energy and vibe that incorporates elements of Acid Rock, traditional Blues, Folk, Soul and free form Jazz around JD’s improvisational skills.

Doomsday Outlaw/Daxx & Roxane Review 16/10/19

"Rock ballad 'The End' was given the fitting guitar solo it deserved, before we were back on familiar Outlaw territory with 'Bring It On Home' from the aforementioned 'Hard Times', which not only saw the possessed Poole chucking his mic around but also saw our WRC photographer throwing a few shapes down the front. Praise indeed. Poole introduced the next "little ditty" - 'Tale Of A Broken Man' from their 2016 debut album 'Suffer More' - jokingly touching upon his previous marital status - before opening with an a cappella - its awesome riff complemented by some neat pedal work from D'Elia and great bass guitar from Indy."

With A Little Help From My Friends 16/10/19

Chicago's JD Simo stopped off at London's The Underworld in Camden last night, the penultimate night of his current European tour, duly showing off not only his guitar and vocal abilities, but also the incredible rhythm section of drummer and ex-SIMO bro Adam Abrashoff and bassist Andraleia Buch. We were already well acquainted with the Nashville-based singer-guitarist, formerly of SIMO, their albums ‘Let Love Show The Way’ (2016) and ‘Rise & Shine’ (2017), deservedly met with huge praise, although it seems light years away from when we first saw JD with his guitar case, fighting his way through the cramped crowd at the St. Moritz Club in Soho in November 2015. Anyway, with an interview, review and Photo Gallery to come, check out today's Video Of The Day.

ESP Project Rising Tonight 16/10/19

Tony Lowe’s supreme Symphonic Progressive Rock collective ESP Project released their hugely accomplished, upbeat and powerful third album, ‘The Rising’, on the Sunn Creative label last Friday, and tonight they debut ‘The Rising’ live when they headline London’s Half Moon in Putney. ‘The Rising’ effortlessly picks up from where ’22 Layers Of Sunlight’ left off, the tight four piece band shimmying through an emotive landscape sculpted by the powerful and moving music of Lowe, coupled with the insightful and heartfelt lyrics of vocalist Damien Child. Threaded through with Tony’s unmistakable guitar and keyboard playing, the fluid grooves of Pete Clark’s bass, and all underpinned by the intense energy of Greg Pringle’s drums, ‘The Rising’ exudes ‘classic third album’ syndrome.

JD Underworld Tonight 15/10/19

Chicago's JD Simo, stops off at London's The Underworld in Camden tonight, the penultimate night of his current European tour. We're already well acquainted with the Nashville-based singer-guitarist, formerly of SIMO, their albums ‘Let Love Show The Way’ (2016) and ‘Rise & Shine’ (2017), deservedly met with huge praise, although it seems light years away from when we first saw JD with his guitar case, fighting his way through the cramped crowd at the St. Moritz Club in Soho in November 2015. The recording of this electric tour de force of eight musically dense songs took place over a three day period in the Summer of 2018 with no edits and no other studio trickery, duly showing off not only his guitar and vocal abilities, but also the incredible rhythm section of drummer and ex-SIMO bro Adam Abrashoff and bassist Luke Easterling.

All of that great music has shaped Dee Rock's style and sent him down the road he's on. Rock has found success in both sides of the music industry ~ on stage and off ~ from producing artists and song writing for various record companies including Virgin, EMI and Capitol Records, to writing the soundtrack for the Warner Bros. film 'Divas'.

Matt Pearce Grace London 12/10/19

"Whether by design or destiny this quartet have taken on the mantle of cheering us up in these over-political times, retaining a heavy underfelt which revealed Steely Dan and Average White Band influences and fitted in perfectly with the Glitterball graveyard of Grace. His guitar playing is superb and probably informed his to decision to front his own band. The playing demands to take centre-stage and he certainly has the chops when it comes to fluid intricate fingering to slide guitar, you name it this guy can do it with panache."

Today read the whole of Ivan De Mello and Michael Walker's Matt Pearce & The Mutiny + Trident Waters gig review here from London's The Grace (Upstairs at The Garage) on Thursday 26th September, plus check out our Photo Gallery here and our Video Of The Day.

Cold In London Tonight 10/10/19

Ahead of their new album 'Rituals of Surrender' being released tomorrow via London label New Heavy Sounds, Cold in Berlin have a show at London's The Victoria tonight. The new album offers up a dark slab of Gothic Doom featuring thunderous modern fables, crawling from the wreckage of an ordinary life - dark and hopeful - standing tall in the debris. Over nine songs you are submerged into the dense, heavy sounds of their fourth album: A witch crawls from the ocean as the world is born looking for a new life, a woman recalls the painful love she needed to feel alive, a man cracks wide open looking for secrets, and love burns two desperate lovers - the songs are filled with heroic and overwhelming loss wrapped in the hope of what comes next.

Martin Harley Photo Gallery 10/10/19

Today check out our Photo Gallery here (courtesy of Bruce Biege) plus Video Of The Day of UK Roots artist Martin Harley's London’s Union Chapel gig from last Thursday, that coincided with both his current European headline tour and the release of his new album 'Roll With The Punches'. Having created a deep impression on the Acoustic Blues Roots and Americana scene with his last two Nashville recorded albums, his highly anticipated new record finds a more electric, band driven direction. Recorded in a remote chapel, deep in the wilds of Pembrokeshire, this is a truly intimate and gritty analogue album. The album features Harley's trademark fine songwriting, with Country Blues riffs and electric bottleneck slide guitar aplenty. All of this served with sweet vocal harmonies over the driving rhythms of co-producer and drummer Harry Harding, award-winning Australian bassist Rex Horan, and Hammond maestro Jonny Henderson adding extra sparkle on six of the tracks.

Geoff Carne Interview 10/10/19

Following their appearance at Wolverhampton's Codsall Beer Festival last Saturday, one half of Geoff Carne & The Hatz appeared on the Beeb the following night! Listen to today's Track Of The Day as Geoff did a live solo acoustic set and an interview on Sue Marchant's 'Big Night In' on BBC Cambs, Essex, Suffolk & Norfolk. Recently the duo released their latest EP 'The Kids', which includes four different versions of the Robbie & Kylie classic.

Dear John Tonight 9/10/19

Further to our chat here with legendary Marillion frontman Steve Hogarth last week, ahead of their forthcoming UK tour next month, Steve will be one of many artists on stage tonight for the John Lennon Benefit Concert in aid of War Child UK, at the newly opened Hard Rock Hotel in London's Marylebone. On what would have been John's 79th birthday, the show will consist of songs from Lennon's solo catalogue and The Beatles catalogue, featuring other artists such as Blurred Vision, Cutting Crew front man Nick Van Eede, renowned Level 42, Go West, keyboardist/composer Lyndon Connah, the powerhouse voice of Soul/Rock songstress Lynne Jackaman, award winning Pop artist Ilona and singer/songwriter Dan Shears. Reserve your free tickets here to gain free entry, with fans being encouraged to donate what they can at the show.

On The Radio 9/10/19

Following yesterday's Blues On The Radio Track Of The Day which included The Lewis Hamilton Band, we were subsequently contacted by Lewis, Nick and Ian from the award winning band. "Morning Wrinkly Rockers! How are we? Here is a sampler from our new album (out this Friday 11th October) for your listening pleasure. Cheers!" Therefore, 'On The Radio' from Scotland’s hardest working Blues-Rock trio is today's Track Of The Day! Having played over 600 gigs since their formation in late 2010 and having previously released three successful studio albums, they have developed a powerful style of Blues-Rock that combines blazing guitar work and traditional Blues song writing.

Vambo Rools! 9/10/19

On Friday 25th October Vambo release their swaggering and powerful self titled debut album through Goliath Records, a new Rock label via Universal, and today's Video Of The Day, the Planet Rock playlisted 'Why Why Why', finds them at their full creative tilt delivering hard-hitting, retooled Rock with a modern twist. Following successful appearances at both Download and Isle Of Wight Festivals this year, Vambo will also be touring the new album around the UK to coincide with its release. This energetic and diverse album features eleven finely crafted songs full of Rock ’n’ Roll attitude, combined with Pete Lance’s  fearsomely virtuosic Metallic riffing, the solid pile driving rhythm section of James Scott (bass) and Steve Price (drums),  plus Jack Stiles’ versatile and soulful voice, ensures that 'Vambo' is a colossal and essential debut.

The Holy Lexington Review 8/10/19

"Now, anyone who has read any of my previous reviews must think I am addicted to Spotify’s music recommendations and I am incapable of finding my own new music?!  Well, I actually find the ‘Discovery Weekly’ playlist a bit of chore. You have to dig through lots of trash to find a diamond, but that is exactly what I did do to find The Holy. But what a diamond!  The ‘Daughter’ album is immense in every way carrying such emotion and variety within its 8 tracks. Probably my favourite album of last year, I was over the moon to see that they were playing in the UK and even had to cancel a work trip to make sure I could make the gig. So I had a little trepidation of whether the live set would meet up to my expectations."

Today read the whole of Chris Bourlet's The Holy + Pink Milk + Warmland – a Nordic Music Night gig review here from London's The Lexington, Islington, on Thursday 26th September.

Sons Of Liberty's Animism 8/10/19

British Southern Rock band Sons of Liberty will release their highly anticipated debut album 'Animism' on Friday 25th October. The Bristol/South Wales based band came together in 2014 through their love of Southern Rock. The band comprise of the impeccable vocals of Rob Cooksley (ex Mike Underwood’s Glory Road), guitar duo Fred Hale and Andy Muse, and the driving rhythm section of Steve Byrne, drums and Mark Thomas, bass guitar. The band have two successful EP's under their belts already, both of which were self-released last year. Their debut EP, 'Shinola', followed by 'Aged in Oak' in September, were playlisted by major Rock radio stations and, with positive reviews across Rock media, including NWOCR, the band's profile grew massively. Consequently, Sons of Liberty have become sought after for festivals and venues throughout the UK where they never disappoint their audience.

Mentull Blues On The Radio 8/10/19

Today's Video Of The Day is of The Mentulls (courtesy of Phil Honley), when they played The Tuesday Night Music Club at the end of last month. Meanwhile, today's Blues On The Radio Track Of The Day features four IBBA albums of the month including Connie Lush, 24Pesos, Dom Martin and Martin Harley (pictured), plus new releases from Trevor Sewell, Teresa James & The Rhythm Tramps, Junior Watson, Ben Racine Band, Victor Wainwright, Mike Zito (featuring Kirk Fletcher & Josh Smith), Porch Swing Blues, The Lewis Hamilton Band, Big River and Ghost Town Blues Band.

Ginger Baker 7/10/19

"The legendary Ginger Baker, now 78 years young, returned to his home city last Tuesday night - albeit North of the Thames for this Lewisham lad. Baker, of course made his big break as a the inspirational drummer and founder of Cream and played with them from 1966 until they disbanded in 1968. Fifty years later Ginger was back tubthumping at Camden's Jazz Cafe, with his three Jazz amigos, namely percussionist Abass Dodoo (from Edmonton not Ghana), saxophonist Pee Wee Willis and on double bass and guitar Alec Dankworth (pictured). Unfortunately due to Ginger's well-documented health problems, it was quality rather than quantity including 'Ginger Spice', 'Cyril Davies' and 'Aïn Témouchent' - but the legends's anecdotes more than made up for the short setlist." That was the last time we saw Cream's Ginger Baker play in April last year (pictured) and therefore we were very sorry to learn of the iconic drummer's death yesterday at the age of 80. Truly a musical legend in every sense of the overused word.

Sanguine's Cold Blood 7/10/19

Incendiary, eclectic and utterly unique female-fronted Alt/Rock/Metal quartet Sanguine have lined up the release of ‘Cold Blood’, their landmark third album, on Odyssey Music on Friday 6th December, and their first single to be taken from the album, ‘Ignite’, is today' Video Of The Day. While ‘Cold Blood’, the follow-up to 2016’s massively acclaimed ‘Black Sheep’ album, is a markedly more melody drenched offering than its awesome predecessor, it nevertheless exudes the aggressive, hard hitting, heavy energy that Sanguine have become so well known for. ‘Black Sheep’ went down so well with the press and fellow musicians that Sanguine were subsequently invited on tour across the UK and Europe with a number of notable acts including Fear Factory, Skindred, Hellyeah, Zebrahead and Mushroom Head, building a huge army of followers along the way. The many months of touring allowed Sanguine to refine what they do to a fine art and ‘Cold Blood’ is more than testament to that.

Anchor Lane Fame Shame 7/10/19

Scottish Rock band Anchor Lane will release their new single 'Fame Shame' (today's Track Of The Day) this Friday 11th October, taken from the band’s eagerly awaited debut album to be released by R7 Records in January 2020. The single's official music video was filmed in the band’s hometown of Glasgow with director Ross Boag (Biffy Clyro, Twin Atlantic and Fatherson) whose aim was to capture the raw energy of the band’s live performance. Consequently, to celebrate the release of the single, the band will aslo perform an exclusive launch party gig at the Garage 2 in Glasgow this coming Friday 11th October. 'Fame Shame' is a raucous up-tempo Rock track that condemns society’s fascination with technology and social media. The song was written by singer Conor Gaffney, guitarist Lawrence O’ Brien, bass player Matthew Quigley and drummer Scott Hanlon and produced by renowned Rock musician, writer and producer Toby Jepson (Wayward Sons, Gun, Little Angels).

The Beast Inside 6/10/19

With ‘The Beast Inside’, released last Friday, and today's Track of The Day, Dawn Of Destiny finally return with an album which must be considered the highlight of their career so far. The band have always been too diverse to fully be represented by the moniker ‘Power Metal’, even though their sound is rooted in this genre. The mixture of Melodic Metal, musical-inspired passages and at times darker approach, not to forget Jeanette Scherff’s great vocal delivery, make Dawn Of Destiny a quite unique entity in today’s music landscape. Jens Faber, band leader, songwriter, guitarist and bass player, has a special gift of writing songs which are exciting and surprising, with creativity far from the beaten path. Consisting also of Dirk Raczkiewicz - keyboards and Philipp Bock - drums,  this is what also makes their seventh album such an adventure. It’s a rollercoaster ride, from catchy tracks like ‘Already Dead’ or the infectious ‘Fight Your Inner Demons’, ending with the beautiful piano ballad ‘Longing’.

The Green Wave 6/10/19

Today's Video Of The Day features Die Grune Welle (The Green Wave) whose new album 'Wirf dein Leben weg!' is out on Friday 1st November. Combining Punk Rock and German Rap, Haiko (vocals, bass), Locke (rap), Alvin (guitar, vocals) and Leon (drums), manage to skillfully add elements from other genres like Indie and Ska to this already explosive mix. And the icing on the cake is saxophonist Lizzy with her cleverly thought out contributions. The lyrics are mainly presented by keeping German Rap parts in the verse and having the chorus in an anthemic and sing-along-like style, which you won’t get out of your head. Always staying true to the Punk Rock ideal, Die Grune Welle sing about (personal) crises of meaning and politics - never slowing down and nonstop straight into the ears of the inclined listener.

The Hatz On The Beeb Tonight 6/10/19

Following their appearance at Wolverhampton's Codsall Beer Festival yesterday, one half of Geoff Carne & The Hatz will be appearing at the Beeb at around 7.30pm tonight! Tune in here as Geoff will be doing a live solo acoustic and interview on Sue Marchant's 'Big Night In' on BBC Cambs, Essex, Suffolk & Norfolk. Recently the duo released their latest EP 'The Kids', which includes four different versions of the Robbie & Kylie classic.

Steve Hogarth Interview 5/10/19

Marillion return to the UK for 13 shows next month with an extended line up of musicians joining the band for their With Friends From the Orchestra Tour, and last Monday we had the pleasure of interviewing frontman Steve Hogarth, which is today's Track Of The Day. In our 23:37 interview here, we discussed, amongst other things, their forthcoming tour, their new CD, their 'All One Tonight' DVD, their legendary weekenders, Southend, fan chemistry, writing an album, Gregg Allman & Cher, the songs, support bands, sleep, Prog music, Radiohead, covers, Abba, his forthcoming Lennon War Child charity gig, his diaries, Japan, Game Of Thrones, Flags, Centre Parcs and the Royal Albert Hall.

Get Off The Road And Honk If You Wonk! 5/10/19

Wonk Unit, the unique Punk phenomenon born out of the South London town of Croydon, return with a new single ‘Cyclists’ (today's Video Of The Day) that furthers the bands inimitable take on Punk Rock, and finds them this time taking aim at selfish cyclists. The band are now on their ninth album, curate ‘Wonkfest’, their own successful festival and are fuelled by their own super-proactive DIY ethos and individual sound, artwork and imagery. The roots of Wonk Unit stretch back to 1992 with a band called The Flying Medallions who were young, dumb and up for fun, courting chaos and controversy at a time when Punk was very much dead in the UK. Wonk Unit formed in 2005 and have since created their own ever-expanding peerless world of sound, colour, art and friendship. A creation that is inclusive to all… unless you ride two abreast in front of them when they’re trying to get to a festival, that is.

Camden Sugarman Hatz 5/10/19

Iamthemorning Courtyard Review 4/10/19

"For the sake of German/Russian relations, Semkina dedicated the quirky 'Matches', with Kolyadin's outstanding bar room piano vibe, to Germany's Riverside fans! This was the first of three songs taken from 'Lighthouse' which won Album of the Year at the 2016 Progressive Music Awards, the others being the Mike Oldfield/Steven Wilson influenced eargasm 'Sleeping Pills' plus 'Libretto Horror' - Marjana sitting down on the stage after her Enya like vocal, admiring the band's intense tango feel outro. It was now time to debut the new album. In fact, to be precise, they played 80% of 'The Bell', beginning with the gorgeous, artful, haunting, powerful and melancholic 'Freak Show', which, understandably, was well received by the very hot, but appreciative audience. Semkina covered her eyes to see into said crowd, before her sweet vocal hit the spot on 'Sleeping Beauty', which melded into 'Blue Sea', which saw Marjana picking up her acoustic guitar for the first time, consequently dueting with her guitarist on this stunningly beautiful composition."

The Lounge Gig Review 3/10/19

"Final co-headliner Collateral, in contrast, are a four piece consisting of drums, electric guitar, bass guitar and a vocalist. With baritone/tenor elements,  the singer had a fantastic presence about him and drew the audience in to him at the start of the performance, opening  with a number that was well known to his audience and was a signal of intent from the band that they meant business. Musically, brilliant, not a foot wrong with songs moving from one to the other with few stops between numbers. Looking out onto the audience they were drawn into the music and were smiling, singing, nodding heads to the music, hands in the air with “rock” symbols. The introduction of the electro-acoustic guitar was a welcome change in timbre and mood as most of the evening was electric guitar orientated. A good repertoire with a strong following meant this band was one of the highlights of an amazing evening."

Harley Union Tonight 3/10/19

To coincide with the release of his  new album 'Roll With The Punches', UK Roots artist Martin Harley stops off on his current headline European Tour at London’s Union Chapel tonight, supported by Anna Pancaldi (Video Of The Day). All of this served with sweet vocal harmonies over the driving rhythms of co-producer and drummer Harry Harding, award-winning Australian bassist Rex Horan and Hammond maestro Jonny Henderson adding extra sparkle on six of the tracks.

Rock On The Ridge Titans 3/10/19

Austin Jenckes Gig Review 2/10/19

"Indeed, powerful as this solo performance was (like Sam before him, Austin was accompanied only by his own guitar), the songs take on even greater life when played by a full band on the CD recordings. As a set closer we were treated to Fleetwood Mac’s timeless ‘Landslide’ (it’s hard to believe that this song pre-dates even ‘Rumours’, having first appeared in 1975); anyone who can do such justice to a song so closely associated with the great Stevie Nicks is an artist to look out for."
