Erja Lyytinen Interview 26/6/17
"The "Finnish slide goddess" recorded the album in her homeland but it was mastered by the Master in London's Air Studios. And it's a slick production. Whilst known as a Blues artist, Erja has incorporated elements of many other styles in an album that is therefore a mix of tastes. And with lyrical themes that transcend all ages there's something in it for everyone." That was part of our recent take on Erja Lyytinen's new CD 'Stolen Hearts' here and the day before Erja's album launch at London's iconic 100 Club in April we also had the privilege of interviewing Erja here (today's Track Of The Day) after her private unplugged set at Soho's Ain't Nothing But Blues venue (picture John Bull)
Tequila Mockingbyrd Interview 25/6/17
"As for Aussie Rockers Tequila Mockingbyrd - their storming set was taken, other than newbie 'Tell Me', from their recently released worldwide debut album 'Fight and Flight' - which was actually released down under a year ago. 'Money Tree', 'Never Go Home', 'This Ain't Dead', 'Good Time' and 'So Not Me' easily demonstrated why the band have received such great reviews from both Planet Rock and Classic Rock. The stand outs for mine though were their cover of Richie Ramone's 'Somebody Put Something In My Drink' plus their brilliantly entitled finale 'I Smell Rock 'n' Roll which has received a lot of well deserved worldwide airplay over the last year."
That was part our Tequila Mockingbyrd Stone Free Festival review here and afterwards we also managed to interview singer/guitarist Louisa Baker, bassist Jacinta Jaye and drummer Josie O'Toole who was understandably the spokesperson for TM - as she dropped the Estelle/Jess bombshell during our audio interview here which is also today's Track Of The Day!

Massive Interview 24/6/17
"Typical Aussies - these guys are on a perpetual world tour following the release of their critically acclaimed 'Destination Somewhere' album last year - with even Kerrang saying that they were following in the footsteps of Guns 'N Roses. Massive definitely cranked up the tempo as they weaved around the small stage wringing every possible sinew out of their performance with their full frontal Aussie Rock including fans favourite ' Blood Money Blues' (check out the video) and their new single 'Calm Before The Storm' from their forthcoming album. One of the highlights of the day - make sure you catch them at London's Proud on Friday 14th July."
That was part our Massive Stone Free Festival review here and we also managed to interview Massive singer/guitarist Brad Marr here (and today's Track Of The Day). What a nice guy - who reaffirmed the accuracy of the band's reputation as riot-starting, fist swinging road dogs fuelled on adrenaline, lager and a determination to party hard!

Long Live Rock 'n' Roll! 22/6/17
"'Down To Earth's 'All Night Long' was evidence, if you needed it, that Rainbow could go toe to toe with Deep Purple as far as Hard Rock was concerned, however, I'm afraid Blackmore's classical opening to the title track of 'Difficult To Cure' was the equivalent of a drum solo for mine - cue bog break. Upon my return, Johansson's amazing keyboards on Purple's 'Child In Time' also saw a stunning vocal from Romero. And talking of drums solo's, Keith's opener on 'Stargazer' I'm reliably informed was a first, but if you wanted a bit of audience participation, then Romero invited the Rainbow faithful to handclap along to a cover of The Yardbirds 'Still I'm Sad' which was rounded off by another DK drum solo. Rainbow's classic 'Long Live Rock 'n' Roll' sparkled as much as Nouveau's red shoes whilst Blackmore's lack of rapport with the crowd on the night was all forgotten as the guitar legend finished a great set with Rainbow's 'Catch The Rainbow' plus a Deep Purple Holy Trinity: Black Night, Burn (with its amazing backdrop) and Smoke On The Water - cue mandatory air guitars."

Class Act 22/6/17
And on the subject of bumping into Guns 'N Roses fans (see our Stone Free Festival review here and our Vid Of The Day) on the Jubilee Line after SFF - it was good to hear from our WRC mate Rob who indeed attended their gig that night at the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park. "My two penneth on Gun 'N Roses on Saturday night? In just less than 3 hours, a solid 5 star performance of their back catalogue - even threw in an AC/DC track for the loss of Axl's dog Rosie! Hard to think of a better live show I have been to. Class act, they nailed it." And talking off class act's - Rob also wanted to thank thank all the very helpful staff at the stadium who assisted his disabled wife Jill, who attended her very first Rock concert that night. Rob added "Good band to start with in her sixth decade - I think we've got a convert!" Nice one Rob - hope to see you at Ramblin' Man!

Stone Free Festival Photo Gallery 19/6/17
Well the day started with some Rock 'n' Roll with some high energy punch from Melbourne all girl three-piece Tequila Mockinbyrd on the Big Entrance Stage (who we had the pleasure of interviewing after their set - watch out for that) and ended with the Classic Rock anthems of Rainbow and Deep Purple from Ritchie Blackmore's Rainbow in the main O2 Arena, supported by Sweet (see today's Vid Of The Day). Sandwiched in between were The Crazy World Of Arthur Brown, Aussie Rockers Massive (who we also interviewed - namely lead singer/guitarist Brad Marr - what a great guy) and a full headline set at the Indigo 2 from Blue Oyster Cult! Not forgetting also all the new friends we made in various bars on a sweltering but brilliant day. Anyway, our photo gallery here, hopefully reflects what an awesome Festival it turned out to be!

There was also a Speak Easy Lounge, a Beer Garden and a Classic Rock Vinyl Fair, so watch out for hose interviews, a review and more photos over the coming week but in the meantime check out today's Rainbow Vid Of The Day!
Delirium Tremendous 18/6/17
Today's Track Of The Day is the new single ‘Delirium Tremendous’ from the theatrical punks Felix Hagan & The Family! It’s a twisted Electro Rock stomper, reminiscent to the likes of Queen and Scissor Sisters, with a glitter-smacked take on its dark troubled themes that address the journey through substance withdrawal. ‘Delirium Tremendous’ is the first taste of the band’s forthcoming album due later this year. It follows the release of 2015’s 'Kiss The Misfits' EP, which saw the band achieve high profile acclaim from the likes of The Guardian and head out on tour with Frank Turner who said about the band, “Within about 20 seconds of the taking the stage, I was sold, a total convert, a newly-signed-up member of the cult.”

Ever since they stormed onto the San Francisco Metal scene in the early 1980's, Possessed has been redefining and breaking the rules for Metal. Fans can expect Possessed's first full-length release in 31 years, sometime in 2018 and the band, consising of Jeff Becerra - vocals, Daniel Gonzalez - guitars, Emilio Marquez - drums, Robert Cardenas - bass and Claudeous Creamer - guitar, is also planning several tour dates showcasing new material that will change the face of Death Metal once more!

Gary Hoey Interview 17/6/17
"It was hard to believe that despite having 20 albums under his belt and having toured with a veritable Rock who's who over the years, that the Massachusetts born Hoey, who once auditioned for Ozzy Osbourne in 1988, was making his London debut. A driving intro from AJ Pappas (bass) and Matt Scurfield (drums) saw the shades wearing Hoey ask the audience "Are you guys ready to have a good time?" before he counted in "1, 2, 1, 2, 3, 4!" and his guitar and vocals duly proceeded to rip into a cover of The Alabama State Troupers 'Going Down' - power trio Blues/Rock at it's best. Wow!"
That was part of our recent Gary Hoey Nell's Jazz & Blues review here and today's Track Of The Day is a relaxing chat that we had with Gary backstage before his gig.

Red Hands Black Deeds 16/6/17
Goat toes (wait... what?), vintage amps, sandpaper, CNN and Motown might not sound like they have anything to do with each other. But this seemingly odd mix actually comprises the sounds and words of Missouri Hard Rockers Shaman's Harvest latest album, 'Red Hands Black Deeds' due for release on Mascot Records on Friday 28th July. Lyrically, the band ventured into new territory, taking on the current political, social, and economic struggles the USA is facing as a nation. The result is a darker, visceral, layered and decidedly warmer, more analog sound compared to their 2014 Mascot album 'Smokin' Hearts & Broken Guns', which accumulated over 33 million streams to date.
Eric Gales Interview 15/6/17
One of our WRC member's had already seen guitar whirlwind Eric Gales perform in Newbury on his UK tour and had promised that were in for a real treat. As it turned out he was not wrong as we took in Eric recently at Nell’s Jazz & Blues in Kensington, London - the final gig of his UK tour. We were also very lucky enough to do a very insightful interview with Eric backstage before the gig which is today's Track Of The Day.

Defying Gravity 14/6/17
Mr. Big plants the flag between past, present and future with ‘Defying Gravity’, the band’s ninth original studio album - due to be released on Friday 21st July. Recorded in just six days at Ocean Studios in Burbank, California, the album reunites Mr. Big with producer Kevin Elson (Journey, Europe, Lynyrd Skynyrd), who is back behind the boards for the first time since helming the band’s first four albums. ‘Defying Gravity’ deftly showcases that patented Mr. Big blend of crunch and melody, from the freight-train ride of opening cut ’Open Your Eyes’ to the harmony-laden wonderment of ‘Damn I’m In Love Again’, to the their current single ‘Everybody Needs A Little Trouble' (Vid Of The Day), to the nostalgia trip of ‘1992’ (recalling the days when the band was flying high at the top the singles charts with their international smash ‘To Be With You’) to the barnstorming slide-Blues closing track, ‘Be Kind’. Featuring Eric Martin - vocals, Paul Gilbert - guitar, Billy Sheehan - bass, Pat Torpey - drums with Matt Starr - drums, overall, the album is prime evidence that the only thing Mr. Big remains tethered to is their ongoing pursuit of achieving creative excellence.

Overloaded 12/6/17
With their impressive 2013 debut album 'Hard Rock ‘n’ Roll', their 2015 follow up 'Rolling In Town' and fresh from their first European tour in 2016, 42 Decibel is making a comeback with their latest album, 'Overloaded', which will be released on Friday 23rd June. The band has recorded ten new Rock tracks inspired by the idea of pushing a piece of equipment to its limits. The band recorded and mixed with this in mind, such as VU meters hitting the red zone and red lights flashing resulting in various types of distortion! 'Overloaded' still carries the Blues Rock torch from the previous albums, but this time 42 Decibel cranked it up a notch to give a more explosive experience but with that same Hard Rock 'n' Roll these boys are known for. The current line-up with Junior Figueroa (vocals, guitar), Nicko Cambiasso (drums), Billy Bob Riley (rhythm & slide guitar) and Matt Fraga (bass), is bursting with energy and thirst for action, and – with the exception of the final mastering of the album, for which they once more enlisted the services of Justin Weis – took on the entire spectrum of tasks involved in a dynamic studio production themselves.

"The band from Worcester first came to our attention after the release of their recent single 'Lacerate' - their unique ballsy, bolshy, raw Rock sound receiving rave reviews with influences of Faith No More, Royal Blood, Band Of Skulls and Zep. We caught up with Andy Teece - vocals/guitar, Ebony Clay - lead guitar, Jack Timmis - bass and Samuel Jenkins – drums outside - before the guys took to a sweltering Belushi's stage before knocking out a very impressive original set that included 'Big Green Joe', 'Lacerate', 'Beggars and Thieves', 'Postal', 'Pummelling A Monk' and 'Modern Pussy' - showcasing not only Teece's unique vocal delivery (think Jack White meets Nick Cave), the swagger of Clay's guitar and the solid unit/engine room of Timmis and Jenkins, but also the reason why they are the first British band to be signed by American label ILA."
That was part of our Camden Rocks review from last weekend and as promised we do indeed have that HVMM interview here today which is also our Track Of The Day!
Shadows Inside 11/6/17
Miss May I have released the third episode of the making of their 'Shadows Inside' documentary which is today's Vid Of The Day. The band recently unleashed yet another track off their highly anticipated new record, and the album's third single, 'Swallow Your Teeth', continues in the footsteps of showcasing the band's unrelenting aggression and defiant sound, all the while boasting massive hooks and crushing riffs that guarantee it as a future fan favorite. Fresh off a highly energetic headlining run in Canada, Miss May I, who consist of Levi Benton - vocals, BJ Stead - guitar, Justin Aufdemkampe - guitar, Ryan Neff - bass and Jerod Boys – drums, are at the moment still headlining the US, with support from Upon A Burning Body, Kublai Khan and label-mates Currents.
Signs 11/6/17
On Friday 25th August, more than four years after 'Fight For My Soul', Jonny Lang will release 'Signs', his second album on Provogue in Europe. It is hard to believe that at only 36 years old Lang has already had a successful career for two decades. Easier to believe when you learn he released his first platinum record at 15 - an age when many young people are just beginning to play music. Lang's sound started out as Bluesy, influenced by electric pioneers like Albert Collins, B.B. King, and Buddy Guy, and evolved into a modern R&B style closer to Stevie Wonder and contemporary Gospel music. 'Signs' is not merely a return to the artist’s guitar-based beginnings, but an embodiment of an even more elemental sound. It's about recapturing the spirit of the early Blues, where the guitar was front and centre, leaping out of the speakers.
Supersonic Blues Machine 10/6/17
"The band consisting of Cody Wright (bass), Nicky Hayes (drums) and Eric's wife LaDonna (percussion) opened with an instrumental before the larger than life Gales joined them on stage not only wearing his trademark baseball cap but also a towel around his neck before they started to jam to a unknown track that should have really been called 'Rocky'. One of the themes running through the evening was Eric's banter in between songs. There's no doubting that he has had his demon's over the year's and he shared that personal experience with the audience throughout the set - indeed, he readily admits that 'MOTR' reflects where he has been personally and where he is now. Gales also thoughtfully asked for a moment of silence for those killed in the Manchester bombing before the band launched into the aforementioned album - the Funky Blues and groovy pre-recorded backing vocals of 'Change In Me' - Gales immediately nailing his credentials to the mast on his upside-down right-handed guitar."

House Of None 10/6/17
The WRC originally introduced you to Idlewar in September 2015 - so were recently delighted to hear (despite continuing Facebook gremlins) from Mikey of House of None who are friends of Idlewar. Needless to say today we introduce the Californian 4 piece who are influenced by bands like Guns N' Roses, Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath, Queens of the Stone Age, Soundgarden and Alice in Chains. Consequently their new single 'In The Dark' is today's Track Of The Day.
With You In Mind 10/6/17
Stanton Moore releases his new album 'With You In Mind' on Friday 21st July. The album is Moore's tribute to New Orleans producer, songwriter, arranger, bandleader, pianist, singer, and all-around figure of elegance Allen Toussaint. Featuring Galactic drummer Moore, keyboardist David "Tork" Torkanowsky and bassist James Singleton, the album guests many musicians associated or from New Orleans, like Cyril Neville, Maceo Parker, Nicholas Peyton, Trombone Shorty, and many, many more.
Revolution Come... Revolution Go Out Today! 9/6/17
The new album 'Revolution Come… Revolution Go' from Gov't Mule (today's Vid Of The Day), is finally released today through Spinefarm Records! 'Revolution Come… Revolution Go' is arguably Gov’t Mule’s most diverse album to date, steeped in the roots and mystique of Rock, Blues, Soul, Jazz and Country. It adds to their distinguished legacy with cleverly-crafted songs, intelligent and timely lyrical commentary, plus downright incendiary playing, while the depth and breadth of the band’s stunning song-writing is displayed with full force. Fronted by Allman Brothers Band's longtime guitarist Warren Haynes, the record sees his dynamic vocals sound as strong and rich as ever, swinging effortlessly between Rock ‘n’ Roll grit and soulful crooning. This end of October the band will be heading to Ireland to play a show in Dublin before coming to the UK for four dates in Edinburgh, Manchester, Cardiff and London.

Rhapsody In Europe 9/6/17
Recently re-united Italian Symphonic Metal band Rhapsody finished the first part of their 20th Anniversary Farewell Tour performing sold-out shows in Mexico City, Bogotá, Santiago and Buenos Aires, and have just begun a European festivals tour before a tour of Asia! Rhapsody consists of Fabio Lione (vocals), Luca Turilli (guitars), Dominique Leurquin (guitars), Patrice Guers (bass) and Alex Holzwarth(drums), and since
emerging in 1997 with the album 'Legendary Tales', Rhapsody has become a worldwide acclaimed band thanks to its unique, epic and orchestral style. 'Emerald Sword', 'Wisdom Of The Kings', 'Knightrider Of Doom', 'Symphony Of Enchanted Lands', 'Dawn Of Victory', 'Lamento Eroico' and 'Holy Thunderforce' are some of the classic compositions that were performed during the first leg of the tour, together with other songs never played before.
Mason Hill Interview 8/6/17
"Following on are twin guitarists James Bird and Marc Montgomery dealing out the riffs with a fine Les Paul/PRS combo. And providing the steady rhythm are bassist Matthew Ward and drummer Craig McFetridge. Following straight into 'Your Memory', you can see these guys were born 40 years too late. If they were around in the seventies they would be filling arenas today. Think Alter Bridge meets UFO. And then has a love child with Black Stone Cherry. As a nod to that era, they performed an excellent cover of Mountain’s 'Mississippi Queen', with a fine solo from JB before lowering the tempo with 'Out of Reach'."
That was part of Mother's Mason Hill review when they recently supported Inglorious at Islington Assembly Hall. Today's Track Of The Day is AJ's interview here with guitarist James Bird backstage before the gig plus we also have some brand new Bob Wilson photos from the gig here.
Happy Birthday Gina! 8/6/17
Free cake for all tonight at the Eel Pie Club at The Patch, 67 London Road, Twickenham TW1 3SZ, to celebrate Gina's big birthday with The Deputies & Friends + Hammerton, Lynton, Heart & Coxon! The Deputies (pictured) are a seasoned bunch of musicians who simply love to perform and entertain. They’re regulars on the London music festival scene and with their Rock 'n' Roll/Blues/Country blend, their sound is reminiscent of legends such as Hendrix, The Band, The Eagles, Jackson Browne, The Rolling Stones, Bob Dylan, Little Feat and Chuck Berry. They line up with Rick Cassman (vocals and guitar), Richard Lightman (lead guitar), Andrew Heart (bass guitar), Geoff Swettenham (drums), Paul Coppock (mandolin & guitar) and Poppy Boden (vocals). Special guests include Pete French and Robin Bibi! Meanwhile, Hammerton, Lynton, Heart & Coxon are a brand new band. Peter Hammerton and Geoff Coxon were with the legendary R'n'B Band The Others, Andrew Heart played with Billy Idol and Bob Geldof, whilst Rod Lynton formed Rupert's People in the 1960's and was guitarist on John Lennon's 'Imagine' album! Doors open at 8pm with music from 8.30-11pm. WRC members are reminded that they can use their cards to get discounted admission.
Pieces Of Brentwood 8/6/17
We first introduced you to The Pieces Of Mind in February 2015 when the band celebrated their 50th anniversary with a great new album of original stuff entitled 'Born At The Bosco'. Since then they were featured in June 2016 on BBC Four’s 'The UK’s Best Part-Time Band' (see today's Vid Of The Day) and guitarist Vic Johnson has been in touch to remind us that the guys are playing the Brentwood Festival on Sunday 16th July supporting Midge Ure, Heaven 17 and Go West which takes place that weekend in aid of charity. So why not get along and see the band who shared the stage with David Bowie and Billy Fury as well as The Who during their performance at the Coed Eva Community College in 1966!
A Terrible Way To End A Memorable Day 7/6/17
"One of the challenges of Camden Rock's is to ensure that you always leave enough time to get from one venue to the another - a task that get's more and more difficult during the day as you consume more alcohol and try and work out both the map and the schedule. Fortunately enough, we arrived in plenty of time for Big Boy Bloater and The LiMiTs at The Proud - so much so that we were able to stand right down the front. We had the pleasure of interviewing and seeing BBB at London's iconic 100 Club just over a year ago and it was a no-brainer to catch the big man in action again. Despite playing as a three-piece with no keyboards, their Roots and R&B rocked as usual which began with the brilliantly entitled 'I Love You (But I Can't Stand Your Friends)' - from last year's album ‘Luxury Hobo’ - with its 70's Rock n' Roll style, big guitar and lyrics, followed by the musical barnstormer, 'It Came Out Of The Swamp', with its brilliant baseline, mean guitar and imaginative lyrics, which Bloater delivered perfectly in a very George Thorogood-esque manner."

Route 66 London Tribute 7/6/17

There's also tracks from Sandy Denny & Thea Gilmore, Bob Seger, Joe Satriani/Eric Johnson/Steve Vai, Boz Scaggs, Joanne Shaw Taylor (pictured) and more.
Introducing ..... King Of The North 7/6/17
Our thanks to WRC member Wrinkly The Silver Fox for introducing us to King Of The North (today's Vid Of The Day) - a Hard Rock duo from Australia. The band comprises Andrew Higgs (guitar/vocals) and Steve Tyssen (drums/back up vocals). Their intense live shows and powerful brand of modern Rock has blazed a new trail in the two-piece band format. The uniqueness of KOTN is created by Andrew’s pioneering of the '3 from 1 guitar pedal'. This pedal creates the sound of 2 guitars plus a bass from just one guitar. It can sound like all three playing together or all separate lead, rhythm and bass sounds. First timers are often left looking for the extra guitarists amidst the wall of sound. Known for as dynamic live act, King Of The North play everything live, there are no pre-recorded noises or samples used live or on their recordings. All sounds come from two voices, guitar and drums!
Sweet Mollie 6/6/17
"At the Borderline, Mollie was backed by a five-piece band, which delivered a high calibre set of songs from Mollie’s highly anticipated forthcoming album ‘Truth Is A Wolf’ which will be released in September 2017. The set included masterfully crafted gems written by Mollie such as ‘Transformer’, ‘A Million Miles’, Give Me A Reason’, ‘Gravity’, Trouble and Shame’, the album title track ‘Truth Is A Wolf’, the brilliant new single ‘Control’, released in March this year, and the excellent ‘Ship Of Fools’, which was a special request from one of Mollie’s loyal fans in the front row. This song was released as a single back in 2014."

Slam Dunk 5/6/17
"St. Albans band Enter Shikari headlined the 2017 main stage, bringing to an end their special shows to mark 10 years since the release of debut album 'Take To The Skies'. Although not a "Big Name", they really ought to be. With dry ice and a fine laser show lighting up the night sky they attracted a huge crowd who were loving what was a polished and professional performance. These guys closed what was again an impressive event and sent the fans home tired but with some great memories. It's another fine event this year. I will be back again next year to watch the young and beautiful people enjoying the best times of their lives. A heart-warming sight. And an ear warming sound."

Camden Rocks Photo Gallery 5/6/17
To have been confronted by the attrocity that happened at London Bridge on the way back from Camden Rocks on Saturday was truly shocking. Our thoughts go out to all the family and friends of those who were either killed or injured - on a night when they were simply relaxing and enjoying themselves - just as we had been during a brilliant Camden Rocks. For what it's worth, and with a review still to come, check out our photo gallery here from the day.
