Can You Hear The Thunder 31/3/17
"Thunder are one of those bands that have been far less commercially successful than they should have been. Which only goes to show that there is no justice in this world. From their early beginning in 1989, Thunder rose out of the ashes of Terraplane with their hugely successful debut album 'Back Street Symphony' which earned them a slot on the 1990 Monsters of Rock festival at Donnington. But whilst following albums were successful, the band never got the mainstream attention that they deserved. Which is a shame because they are a class act. However, Thunder did build a loyal fanbase through constant album releases and touring which remain as steadfast and devoted today as any band could wish for. But through the years the mighty Thunder have announced more than once that their current tour would be their last. Thankfully they kept coming back for more."

Underworld Photo Gallery 31/3/17
"Sumo Cyco are a Punk Metal band from Toronto, Canada. Lead singer Sever (formerly solo artist: Skye Sweetnam) is an achingly pretty provocateur whose attire doesn't leave much to the imagination. The girl next door, if you live near Anne Summers. And who during the course of a hot and heavy night was in competition with the drummer to strip down to wear the least amount of clothing. Compulsive viewing that I can attest to. If you want to see who wins, go see them for yourself."

A Little Piece Of Aotearoa 30/3/17
"Devilskin are back at the Underworld again - I saw them there last year with the excellent Skarlett Riot in support. Devilskin is a four-piece Alternative Metal band from Hamilton, New Zealand, formed in June 2010. And it would appear that at least half of the audience are fellow Kiwi's following their homeys around the globe. I would if I were a Kiwi. Fronted by the black leather clad Jennie Skulander, Jennie has a powerful voice that ranges from whispers to full bellowing roar. Yes she's beautiful, yes she's dressed like a sexy dominatrix, but it's the voice you notice first. Sporting red beards Nail (lead guitar) and Paul Martin (bass, backing vocals) provide the power and the melody behind the vocal delights of Skulander whilst Paul's son Nic Martin excels on the drums. Nail, playing a Gibson Les Paul through twin Marshal JTM stacks, won fame in NZ playing lead for the popular Waikato band Chuganaut who won the NZ Battle of the Bands and the World Battle Of The Bands in 2004."

2014 WRC Best International award winners Blackberry Smoke proved at a packed London Roundhouse on Tuesday night that they have still got what it takes in the Southern Rock department! Manowar founding member Ross The Boss returns to the UK at London's Underworld tonight for a seven gig tour that ends a week later at the Craufurd Arms, Wolverton, near Milton Keynes. Each night promises to be a special evening, in all senses of the word. It’s aptly entitled the “The Discipline Of Steel Tour” and who are we to argue? After this tour, this line up will then enter the studio to finish work on a new record. The band’s first official recording, a storming version of Manowar favourite 'Blood Of My Enemies' is now available on Itunes and Spotify, which is as grand as they come!

Anyway watch out for a review and more pics shortly - but in the meantime please check out today's Vid Of The Day!

Blackberry In The Smoke 28/3/17
"But for those whose eyes glaze over in rapture when the name Ronnie Van Zant gets mentioned, Blackberry Smoke fills the bill for the next generation of gutsy, heartfelt and honest Southeast rocking with plenty of talent, tons of drive and no apologies. I have loved these guys since the WRC saw them at the 02 Academy Islington in March 2014 and will continue to do so. I cannot wait to see them back on a ten date tour in the UK end March/beginning April 2017 with a stop at the Roundhouse in London..See you there folks !!.." Each night promises to be a special evening, in all senses of the word. It’s aptly entitled the “The Discipline Of Steel Tour” and who are we to argue? Today's Black On Blues Track Of The Day features music from Susan Tedeschi, Brick Fields, Kate Lush, Malaya Blue (pictured), Vanessa Collier and Samantha Fish.
Monster Party 26/3/17
"It was then time for a walk in the 'Black Forest' - evidence of Monster Truck's undoubted musical breadth - Blues Rock at its best - smacking of Bonamassa's 'Sloe Gin' even down to its opening/closing cool keys from the appropriately named Brandon Bliss and its awesome climactic guitar solo courtesy of the energetic Widerman. Indeed the breadth of MT's music, as showcased in 'Sittin' Heavy' was indicative of why the Electric Ballroom mosh pit never got really going on the evening, further evidenced, once Harvey returned, on 'For The People' with its Country feel. "Are You Having A Good Time?" enquired Harvey as 'Things Get Better' with this rockin' belter and more audience participation "I Got A Feelin' Things'll Get Worse Before They Get Better". The delicious Blues fusion of Bliss's keys and Widerman's guitar on 'For The Sun' - not only re-empahasised the fact that these guys are not just one trick gold mine ponies but Harvey's vocal really nailed the guts of this Blues track from 'Furiosity' before it dissolved into the heavier Blues Rock of 'Seven Seas Blues'."

Stolen Hearts Review 25/3/17
"Erja Lyytinen's tenth studio album 'Stolen Hearts' is her latest release in her 15 year recording career that sees her team up with producer Chris Kimsey to create an album that is somewhat more diverse in styles than previous releases. The "Finnish slide goddess" recorded the album in her homeland but it was mastered by the Master in London's Air Studios. And it's a slick production. Whilst known as a Blues artist, Erja has incorporated elements of many other styles in an album that is therefore a mix of tastes. And with lyrical themes that transcend all ages there's something in it for everyone."
You can read the whole of Mother's Erja Lyytinen 'Stolen Hearts' album review here plus check out our Vid Of The Day.

Call It Stormy Monday 23/317
"Despite teething problems with both the Borderline's sound and lighting - Sari and the guys soldiered on - with Sari resting her voice as Innes led the band into a classic cover of Freddie King's instrumental 'The Stumble' which cooly set us up for another Blues standard - T-Bone Walker's 'Call It Stormy Monday' - with Olinder's delightful opening keys, Innes' jaw-dropping fretwork and Sari's sultry vocal - this was the stand-out for me on the night and showed the class of this band - not forgetting the literal 'Engine Room' of Jefferies and O'Rourke. Two new tracks (for me) sandwiched 'AFON's, the mellow and groovy, 'Oklohoma', with its mean fusional outro jam with Anders' keys, another Sibun guitar solo and of course Schorr's excellent lyrical diction. The former 'Don't You Call My Name' and the latter 'American Boy' both kept the Blues Police and momentum in check."

Camden Rocks Tonite! 22/3/17
"Kicking off the night were fellow-Canadian southern rock band Monster Truck. who brought a very 70’s swagger to the stage along with a lot of noise to boot!! AJ told me they were good and he wasn't wrong!! These guys are coming off the release of their second album ‘Sittin' Heavy’ from the start of the year, and made it clear in their short set that they are one to keep an eye on." That was part of Wrinkly The Silver's review of Monster Truck supporting Nickelback at the O2 Arena last October - and not only are we off to see them again tonight at London's Electric Ballroom, but there is also another WRC contingent in Camden tonight to see Devilskin (Vid Of The Day) at The Underworld!

Their Finest Hour 20/3/17
"And it was not only St. Patrick's Day, but it also just happened to be Scott Gorham's birthday - with not just one, but two choruses of 'Happy Birthday' afforded to the legend from the BSR faithful. 'Heavy Fire's 'Dancing With The Wrong Girl' saw more of those sweet jousting chords, whilst their Celtic riffs were complemented by Gaelic chants of "Tar a Ti" in the lyrics of 'Soldierstown' from 'TKI'. The slower 'Hey Judas' from 'AHBL' was followed by 'When The Night Comes In' - Jimmy Degrasso's pounding opening drumbeat accompanied by mass hand clapping, giving way to Gorham's guitar solo in this fast and furious track from 'HF'. 'Cold War Love' - also from 'HF' slowed things down nicely before literally 'All Hell Breaks Loose' with the classy title track from their very first album - with Gorham's guitar again in overdrive. And given the occasion - you could have been forgiven for listening out intently during every BSR intro for THAT Lizzy classic. Muted cries of 'Jailbreak' subsided until exactly half way through proceedings when, cue pyrotechnics, 'The Boys Are Back In Town' was ecstatically received - to be sure! Well it was St. Paddy's Day after all!"

Another Friday night and yet another awesome gig in London - albeit on a night when England's capital turned green. And not only was it St. Patrick's Day, but it just happened to be Black Star Riders and Thin Lizzy guitarist Scott Gorham's birthday - with not just one, but two choruses of 'Happy Birthday' afforded to the legend from the BSR faithful. With Gun, Backyard Babies and BSR on The Forum bill, it was great value on an evening that also saw BSR frontman Ricky Warwick receive their Planet Rock Best British Album award for 'Heavy Fire' on behalf of the band. With a review still to come - check out our photo gallery here from the gig.
Vehicle Of Spirit 19/3/17
Conservation biologist Jukka Salmela of Metsähallitus Parks & Wildlife Finland recently discovered a new insect species in his home country and while remembering Tuomas Holopainen's love for nature, he decided to name it "Sciophila holopaineni" after Nightwish's keyboarder and songwriter! After the release of the band's latest album 'Endless Forms Most Beautiful' in 2015, Holopainen has been known as person being highly interested in evolution and the diversity of nature. So far, this particular fungus gnat has only been spotted in eastern Lapland, Finland, and lives in shadowy environments. After releasing their double-DVD 'Vehicle Of Spirit', Nightwish (Vid Of The Day) are currently taking a year off to find inspiration and write new songs, with the Symphonic Metal legends planning to return in 2018.
Big Boy Bloater 100 Club Gig Tonight 19/3/17
"It’s not actually ‘Rocket Surgery’ is it? Well actually it was as BBB<’s delved back to their first album with this fast mover plus also ‘Sweet & Brown’ – the guys getting up a full head of steam by now as – “Hallelujah” – we were welcomed to “The Church Of Big Boy Bloater” – cue the gospel interaction with the Bloater congregation. “You guys are good” being Preacher Bloater’s response. The 100 Club was now rockin’ and yes we were ‘Insanely Happy’ bopping away to this track again from ‘The World Explained’. And the day after Eurovision 2016 – even if the intro to ‘Big Fat Trap’ sounded a little bit like Abba’s ‘Ring Ring’ – Bloater went on to prove he is the “King Of Twang” on this belter from BBB&TL’s debut album."
That was part of AJ's Big Boy Bloater and The LiMiTs (Track Of The Day) 100 Club gig review from May last year and the guys return to the iconic venue in London's Oxford Street tonight!

Honest Man Review 16/3/17
"Next, it's time to break out the horn section for the title song 'Honest Man'. A personal song, telling of the artists struggles to make his own way in life ("Everybody's Just Serving Themselves, Nobody's Got Time fFor An Honest Man"). It's a great song with a great vocal and one of the album's highlights. If the title track has a great vocal, then track four, 'I'm Giving In' has a simply stunning one. Accompanied only with a piano, it's a sad song which has an almost hymn like quality, starting softly and building to the powerful mid-section before coming full circle. It's the song that perfectly demonstrates the artists vocal abilities and for me, is the stand out track on the CD. Track five, 'Quiet Company', brings a bit of Country into the Bluesy mix - it has a great melody and some subtle slide guitar to go along with that late night easy listening feel. After repeated plays it also reminded me somewhat of solo acoustic Springsteen in the 'Tom Joad, Devils and Dust' eras, which is by no means a bad thing. Another cracking song."

How Much Further? 16/3/17

Michael Schenker "Fest Live" Review 15/3/17
"After getting his career trajectory very much back on track with the ‘Temple of Rock’ studio releases and some well-received live shows, Michael Schenker has returned to his MSG roots and ‘Michael Schenker Fest Live’ is a Classic Rock case of all the pieces coming together and all the (Rock) stars aligning for a 21st century revisit of what was, and remains, some of the finest and most successful musical moments of Schenker’s career under his own name - the original Michael Schenker Group era (1980 to 1984) and later McAuley Schenker Group (1986 to 1993)."

That track saw them become the first band to send their debut single to No. 1 on Billboard Country Airplay Charts this decade. The video has now had close to 17 million views!
Class Is Permanent 14/3/17
"Vocalist Reed, a hybrid of a sweaty Buster Bloodvessel with the facial expressions of Wilko Johnson, eased us in, or "starting slow" as Dan put it, with the groovy late 80's feel of 'Get To You' and the driving riff of 'Divided' from 'FAD', before the party really got going with Inglorious front man Nathan James joining Reed early doors for a blistering cover of Kiss classic 'Rock And Roll All Nite'. With fans from as far and wide as Norway and Italy in attendance, the network went into overdrive as the DRN faithful lapped up the energy plus the twists and turns of the set, which was no more evident than with 90's favourite 'Baby Now I', which included a classic mid-section medley of covers including Kiss's 'I Was Made For Lovin' You', Metallica's 'Enter The Sandman' and FGTH's 'Relax', before hatted bassist Melvin Brannon II smoothly stepped up to the mic with Earth Wind & Fire's 'Let's Groove'."

In fact the interview was so good and long that we split it into two parts - the second and final part is today's Track Of The Day where the guys talk to us here about, amongst other things, guitar heroes, production, music videos, festivals and Petula Clark!

Live & Louder 1/3/17
It is finally coming on Friday 19th May - a live CD/DVD from The Dead Daisies! If you’ve been to a show last year, 'Live & Louder' (Vid Of The Day) captures all that! 16 songs, recorded during their terrific UK/Europe tour last Autumn. Influenced by 70’s and early 80’s Rock, The Dead Daisies sound is soulful and accessible – equal parts of Aerosmith, Bad Company and Foreigner: muscular vocals, Bluesy riffs, big choruses, powerful melodies and strong hooks. With stellar musicianship and pulverizing live shows, fans across the globe are discovering the band that is bringing back Rock & Roll! The band features in their ranks some of the finest Rockers on the planet, among them one of the premier lead guitarists of this day and age, Doug Aldrich (Whitesnake, Dio). He completes a powerhouse line-up consisting of charismatic singer John Corabi (Mötley Crüe, The Scream), the well travelled bassist Marco Mendoza (Thin Lizzy, Whitesnake), the drumming powerhouse of Brian Tichy (Ozzy Osbourne, Foreigner) and bringing the thunder from down under, Australian rhythm guitarist David Lowy (Red Phoenix, Mink).
