Slow Readers Club - Review 31/5/18

"Fans of the SRC are almost evangelical in their support of the band, placing the new album in more prominent positions on the shelves in HMV, encouraging friends and relatives to listen to the music and in an almost football crowd way, chanting ‘Readers, Readers’ to encourage the band onto the stage.  Aaron thanks the crowd and asks how many are seeing them for the first time – and it is no real surprise that the newbies are in the minority!  The set is opened with the opening track from the new album – 'Lunatic' and the crowd are soon bouncing along, some swaying, some more energetically.  Something pretty close to a ‘mosh pit’ soon forms with arms waving and eventually bodies raised onto shoulders to get closer to the band."

Today read Chris Bourlet's Slow Readers Club gig review from last Friday at London's Islington Assembly Hall here plus check out our Track Of The Day.

Buzzed Up City 31/5/18

Well we were promised Heavy Rock in its purest form that would send you straight to the front of the stage with no nonsense sledgehammer riffs, hooks and melodies - and City Of Thieves certainly delivered that last night. It was our first visit to The Big Red in Holloway Road and it certainly won't be our last. Not only was it free but City Of Thieves grabbed Rock by the scruff of its neck and give it a good shake, including their brilliant debut single 'Buzzed Up City' - think Airbourne meets AC/DC meets Wolfmother! Anyway, with their long anticipated debut album, entitled ‘Beast Reality’, due to be released on Friday 12th October - in the meantime check out today's Video Of The Day.

Camden Rocks - Reigning Days 31/5/18

Just over a month ago since they played a very special show at London’s Nambucca in support of their colossal debut album 'Eclipse', British Rock trio Reigning Days return to England's capital city this Saturday 2nd June playing an acoustic session at the Camden Rocks Festival at the Brewdog at 8.30pm. Reigning Days also recently played The Autonomy stage at the Great Escape Festival plus they are also heading to Wheels and Fins festival in Kent on Sunday 9th September.

Big Red Thieves Tonight 30/5/18

The buzz has been spreading about City Of Thieves ever since they made their initial debut in 2015. Indeed their brilliant debut single 'Buzzed Up City' was released last month plus the guys are playing London's The Big Red tonight - and it's free. No frills, no messin', no gimmicks – just Heavy Rock in its purest form that will send you straight to the front of the stage with no nonsense sledgehammer riffs, hooks and melodies. Working with acclaimed artist/producer Toby Jepson (Little Angels, The Answer, The Virginmarys), band members Jamie Lailey - vocals/bass, Ben Austwick - guitar and Will Richards - drums, knew from the outset that City Of Thieves wanted to take Rock by the scruff of its neck and give it a good shake.  With Jepson at the helm, Mike Fraser on mixing duties and mastering by Simon Francis (Kodaline, Kaiser Chiefs, Primal Scream), the group’s long anticipated debut album, entitled ‘Beast Reality’, due to be released on Friday 12th October, is in the best of hands.

Camden Rocks - Raveneye 30/5/18

Fresh from their own headline UK tour in January/February - UK Rock trio RavenEye (Video Of The Day) return to Dingwalls in London this Saturday 2nd June at 6.45pm as part of this year's Camden Rocks Festival. Since releasing their wildly successful EP ‘Breaking Out’, and debut album ‘NOVA', RavenEye has toured globally, supporting Slash, Deep Purple, The Darkness, Kiss, Bush, Aerosmith, Chevelle and Halestorm, amongst others. The band has headlined their own tours through Europe and America as well as performing at major international Rock festivals. Their incendiary live shows have captivated crowds and put them on the map as a ‘must see live’ band.

Camden Rocks - The King's Parade 29/5/18

The King’s Parade released their brand new EP ‘Woman’ last Friday and they are playing the Crescent at 9.30pm this Saturday 2nd June as part of the Camden Rocks Festival. The four-track EP features the acclaimed title-track (today's Video Of The Day), the new single ‘The Look’ and previously unreleased tracks ‘Mirror’ and ‘Lemon Zest’. The EP’s title track was released earlier this year and addressed the issue of gender imbalance, which led the band to be featured as BBC Introducing’s ‘Artist Of The Week’ and shortlisted for the ‘UMA Choice Award’ at the forthcoming Unsigned Music Awards 2018. 'The Woman' EP follows from the highly praised 'Haze' EP last year, which saw them receive support from the likes of The Independent, Wonderland and BBC 6Music among many others. Alongside the new EP release The King’s Parade have been announced to play a string of Summer festivals across the UK and Germany.

Clutching At Straws 29/5/18

Following the huge success last year of his 30th anniversary tour of the classic Marillion album 'Clutching At Straws', Fish is embarking on a massive UK and European headline tour starting in September this year. In addition to performing 'Clutching At Straws' live for the very last time, Fish will also be debuting brand new, never-before-heard material from his forthcoming final studio album 'Weltschmerz'. He has also confirmed that he will be making his entire back catalogue, 'Fish – The Digital Collection', available on all digital platforms, this Friday 1st June. The release spans all fourteen studio and live albums, from his acclaimed 1990 solo debut 'Vigil In A Wilderness Of Mirrors' (the only solo album currently available on DSPs, via Warners 2008 reissue) to 2013’s 'A Feast of Consequences'. Finally, Fish will also be playing a number of festivals across Europe this summer, including UK appearances at Ramblin’ Man Fair, Maidstone, on Sunday 1st July and Fairport’s Cropredy Festival on Friday 10th August.

Nine Below Zero Tour Review 28/5/18

"Also performed in Brighton but sadly not in London was ‘Three Times Enough’, a gritty Punk offering from the 1981 album ‘Don’t Point Your Finger’, played with bullish vibrancy and lashings of snarl and bite! In London we got ‘Stop Your Nagging’, which is a fast paced chunk of Punk Blues Rock! ‘Twenty Yards Behind’ (Dr. Feelgood cover) was written by and dedicated to the legendary Wilko Johnson, a jittery galloping Ska style song, top notch stuff! ‘Watch Yourself’ (Little Walter cover) was delivered with assured strutting posturing and sauve sophistication. One of my favourite Nine Below Zero covers sees the set draw to a close, ‘Pack Fair And Square’ (Big Walter & His Thunderbirds cover) also featured on the ‘Live At The Marquee’ album, drives forward at full throttle! A hard hitting, no nonsense, heads down boogie rock out!"

Today read Steven C Gilbert's Nine Below Zero  tour review from gigs at Brighton, Southend and London here.

Camden Rocks - Colt 48 28/5/18

Just over two months since we reviewed them at The Borderline (pictured) - Colt 48 return to London this Saturday 2nd June as we continue our Camden Rocks Festival countdown. Due to be on the Electric Ballroom stage at 2pm, the dynamic duo of  lead singer/guitarist Adam Jerome and vocalist/drummer Matt Savini supported Puddle of Mudd at the Garage last year and have opened for Crazy Town, Foxxy and Trapt. Indeed their Nu-Metal and Heavy Rock sound with powerful riffs and good melodies comes across loud and clear on their latest EP 'II'. Three tracks that demonstrate their versatility: the building/alternatively paced headbanger 'Never Let You Live It Down', the dark and light of 'The Fire' plus the Nu-Metal lite anthemic arena sound of 'Out Of Habit' (Video Of The Day) - think Puddle Of Mudd collides with Creed. Do not miss them.

Pairing Up The Blues 28/5/18

Today's Black On Blues Podcast Track Of The Day is another popular Blues women special featuring Zoe Schwarz, Val Starr, Tracy K, Teresa James, Susan Williams, Libby Rae Watson and Bridget Kelly Band.

Camden Rocks - Hollowstar 27/5/18

With just six days to go, our Camden Rocks Festival countdown continues with Hollowstar who are appearing at The Dev at 7pm next Saturday 2nd June. In fact the Cambridgeshire-based Rock band released their new single “'All I Gotta Say”' (Video Of The Day) on Friday, and it's easy to see how they take inspiration from Blackstone Cherry, Thunder and Slash; influences that are evident in the music they create. To coincide with the new single, Hollowstar have also unveiled a slew of tour dates throughout the country, joining the Graham Bonnet Band for four shows in Aberdeen, Edinburgh, Louth and Newcastle as part of his UK and Ireland 2018 tour from 9th-12th August. The lads will also be making an appearance at the Wildfire Festival on Sunday 24th June, before joining Dan Reed Network and King King at the Cambridge Rock Festival, running from 26th-29th July.

Introducing - Jamie Lee Vessels 27/5/18

Jamie Lynn Vessels is a Rock and Blues artist with her roots in songwriting. 'Storm Coming' is Jamie Lynn's' new Blues-Rock album, released just over a month ago, a collection of 14 songs, which Vessels refers to as “Blues-based roots Rock”, which includes today's Track Of The Day 'Dear Love'. Likened to Bonnie Raitt, Melissa Etheridge and Sheryl Crow, this six-foot tall rocker captivates the audience and commands the stage. She has embraced New Orleans as her musical hometown, and the city has done her the same, affording her the opportunity to add grit and soul to her style and music. There is something undeniable about her songs and musical appeal... whatever your taste, Jamie's voice and presence will capture you. Her music is Soulful, Bluesy, filled with intricate lyrics and beautiful stories, and delivers a stunningly intoxicating ride of Rock 'n' Roll.

Rebecca Downes Express Tonight 27/5/18

"Another Birkett guitar solo opened the slower Blues ballad 'Sailing On A Pool Of Tears' - for once Downes' vocal being dominated by Steve's awesome guitar work before Rebecca donned her guitar once more as the band finished with the familiar opening pounding drum/slide guitar of 'Believe's title track - its mid-section burst of driving drums/slide solo easily demonstrating why this track was runner up in the Best Blues Song category at last year's British Blues Awards.  A superb Blues Rock set with something for everyone - do get to see her!" That was our take on Rebecca Downes supporting Snakecharmer last May at Islington's O2 Academy and Rebecca returns to London tonight at the Pizza Express Jazz Club in Soho at 8pm.

Camden Rocks - New Breed 26/5/18

With the full stage times just announced, our Camden Rocks Festival countdown continues with news that Dirty Thrills and Doomsday Outlaw, who are both performing on Saturday 2nd June, are both featured on a free 'New Breed' Sampler CD produced by their record label Frontiers Music. One Day Of Your Life 26/5/18

King Company's new album ‘Queen Of Hearts’ will be released on Friday 10th August, following which the band will tour to promote it, beginning in Finland, followed by a festival appearance in Spain and further shows in the works for the remainder of the year and well into 2019. Formed in 2014 by drummer Mirka ‘Leka’ Rantanen, the Finnish Hard Rock and Metal band consist of Antti Wirman (guitars), Jari Pailamo (keyboards), Timo Schleifer (bass) and Leonard F. Guillan (vocals). The band released their debut album, ‘One For The Road’, in August 2016. It was well received with multiple great reviews worldwide, plus the band were ranked no. 7 in the well-known Japanese magazine BURRN in the Brightest Hope category for that year. Anyway, check out their latest single 'One Day Of Your Life' which is today's Video Of The Day.

Krautrock Legend's Silhouetttes 26/5/18

Iconic Krautrock legend and seminal electronic music pioneer Klaus Schulze released ‘Silhouettes’, his first new studio album for five years, on SPV’s Oblivion record label yesterday. 70 year old Schulze, who was born in Berlin, started his musical career as a drummer, initially with amateur band Psy Free, then with Berlin sound avant-gardists Tangerine Dream before going on to join Ash Ra Tempel. Following the recording of Ash Ra Tempel’s debut album, Schulze left the fold to embark on his solo career. Even more than with a band, the creative work of a solo artist is the direct and unadulterated reflection of recent experiences, a mirror of the soul, an undiluted reaction to their current life situation.  Indeed, the four compositions on the album were created between Summer and Autumn last year, reflecting an extended period which was – due to health problems – very quiet and for this reason very meditative at times.

Slow Readers Club Tonight 25/5/18

Manchester four piece The Slow Readers Club, who recently celebrated a Top 20 Chart debut for their new album 'Build A Tower', play the penultimate night of their extensive UK tour at London's Islington Assembly Hall tonight. Specialising in a dark and brooding Indie Electro that has drawn comparisons with Interpol, The Killers and The National, The Slow Readers Club have supported James on their arena tour, and performed at festivals including Isle Of Wight, Festival No.6 and Kendall Calling. The Slow Readers Club are Aaron Starkie (vocals), Kurtis Starkie (guitar and vocals), James Ryan (bass) and David Whitworth (drums).

Camden Rocks - SikTh 25/5/18

The Kings have returned - yes SikTh (Video Of The Day) are back - as we continue our countdown to the Camden Rocks Festival on Saturday 2nd June! After their hiatus in 2007, The Watford mathcore sextet that not only originally stumbled upon a sound unexplored, but also devised their own Morse code of Metal, returned with one of the finest albums of 2017 – 'The Future In Whose Eyes?' Known for their labyrinthine detours and tangents, that ultimately lead to the birth of djent Metal, Sikth's legacy undoubtedly gave the inspiration for bands like Protest The Hero, TesseracT, Animals As Leaders and Periphery.

Camden Rocks - Sulpher 23/5/18

Today's Video Of The Day is Sulpher and their very first single 'Take A Long Hard Look’ taken from their new album ‘No One Will Ever Know’ due to be released in late August through Oblivion/SPV. The celebrated British Industrial Alternative Rock quartet, who are playing the Camden Rocks Festival on Saturday 2nd June are fronted by former Marylin Manson/Gary Numan/The Prodigy guitarist Rob Holliday, have dusted off and modernized their unmistakable signature sound on the new album, melding massive doses of Rock, Metal, a little electronica and neo-psychedelic shoegaze elements, to create a monumental album. Passionate, unconstrained anger morphs into melancholy toughness, and atmospheric mental images meet a Metallic dirtiness.

Easy As ABQ 23/5/18

Alternative-Pop band ABQ played an amazing set recently at the awesome The Great Escape, which was closely followed by the release of their highly anticipated rebellious and anthemic debut single ‘Takes So Long’ - today's Track Of The Day. Hailing from the streets of Belfast, they are not unaccustomed to recognition, having already been likened to bands such as Imagine Dragons, Snow Patrol and Biffy Clyro. With a run of gigs booked for this Summer and their upcoming musical releases, things are getting pretty exciting for this Northern Irish four-piece.

Queen Bees Tonight! 23/5/18

New York alt-Punk mavericks The Nectars continue their UK tour at Camden's The Monarch in London tonight. Machine Head Gig Review 22/5/18

"Entering the stage to the sounds of Ozzy’s 'Diary Of A Madman', the opening track 'Imperium' is one such classic followed by said 'Catharsis' opener 'Volatile', complete with its opening battle cry. And it’s a cracker too. All MFH albums have that formula that includes guttural screaming vocals with brutal chugging riffs and emotive lyrics. Chuck in some high octane guitar work, machine gun drumming and epic songs and you have the formula that is the success that is Machine Head. And it’s a formula that doesn’t get stale. Because they are the vital components that go to make up great Metal. But also included within that maelstrom of power is a melodic edge that lifts the tracks from aggressive noise to become memorable tracks that get the blood pumping and the head smashing. This is Metal but it is also music."

Camden Rocks - 10. Gauge 22/5/18

Our Camden Rocks countdown continues today with sensational British Hard Rock quintet 10. Gauge, who are unmistakenly seeking to continue the broad-shouldered and durable sound of the late 1980's and early 1990's.  The band are poised to unleash their slick and heavy-set debut EP 'Rain's ’Comin', due for public release on Monday 18th June. Based on the outskirts of North London, next Monday 10. Gauge release their cool Rock ballad 'Hand You're Dealt' as a video single which is today's Video Of The Day.  Sharing a stylistic palette with modern alternative hitters Black Stone Cherry (and with a hint of Alter Bridge's arena Rock sound), the chunky riff-riot of their new single sees vocalist Rob Jewson equip the same vocal grit given to 'Appetite for Destruction' by Axl Rose, and has the makings of a true Summertime favourite.

JB British Blues Explosion Review 20/5/18

"Double Crossing Time’ is probably the one song of all the greats on here that Joe Bonamassa was born to cover. Clearly in his element, playing with such speed and ferocity that his fingers are just a blur, it would appear he is on a mission to single handedly keep the Blues alive whilst blasting through this old Bluebreakers number. Next up is our second visit to Clapton’s ‘461 Ocean Boulevard’ album and ‘Motherless Children’. It’s an instant toe tapper with its chugging steam train like rhythm, its exceptional playing all round, and the fact that this song is originally over 90 years old, proves just how timeless this music really is."

Read Phil C's complete take on Joe Bonamassa's latest live British Blues Explosion DVD which was released on Friday here plus you can also see Joe at London's Hampton Court Festival on Tuesday 12th June.

Camden Rocks - Bands Countdown 19/5/18

With just two weeks to go to Camden Rocks - today we start our countdown with two awesome bands appearing on Saturday 2nd June. York based Naked Six (Track Of The Day) are an exciting two-piece band with Seb Byford (vocals/guitars) and Tom Witts (drums) that bring a unique blend of Alternative Rock, Grunge, Schizoid Blues, fused together with a post Punk attitude. Delivering high octane, contemporary edged Rock, Naked Six's electrifying live performances to date have seen the band making a name for themselves and firing up audiences with their powerful songs and compelling lyrics. Meanwhile WRC favourites The Kris Barras Band (Video Of The Day) seem to be continually on the road, after recently supporting Beth Hart, and after Camden Rocks they take in London's Borderline on Wednesday 20th June, Maidstone's Ramblin' Man Fair on Sunday 1st July and then Kris himself (pictured) joins up with Supersonic Blues Machine for their tour which begins at London's Shepherd's Bush Empire on Wednesday 4th July!

Sky's The Limit 19/5/18

Sky Valley Mistress continue their run of UK shows tonight at London's New Cross Inn. Hailed recently by Rolling Stone Magazine as the “21st Century’s answer to Led Zeppelin II”, Sky Valley Mistress are yet to release a debut album but this is about to change … Inventors of the power chord and Iggy Pop’s influence behind forming The Stooges, they have returned from the Californian Desert after recording their unreleased debut album at the infamous Rancho de la Luna studio. Working alongside Mojave Lord and Eagle of Death Metal, Dave "Dream Catcher" Catching, they have produced a record that is so electric NASA is already claiming it may have to be played from the moon and shot back to earth via lazer beam. This high voltage power could supply over half the planet with free energy by 2019.

This Is Your Life 19/5/18

Southampton based Alt/Prog Rock duo BirdPen will release their new studio album in the early autumn. ‘There’s Something Wrong With Everything’ is being funded via a still active Pledge campaign and is preceded by an introductory single, ‘This Is Your Life’, which is out on Friday 1st June. The new album melds heavy/psychedelic guitars, rolling basslines, Krautrock drums and old school electronics to create a Doom groove ambience with Dave Pen’s lead vocal sitting atop, while musically they take inspiration from acts such as Deerhunter, Hookworms, Suuns, The Beta Band, Pink Floyd and The Brian Jonestown Massacre.

Machine Head FM 18/5/18

If you are looking for a gig, then both FM (Video Of The Day) and Machine Head are playing London tonight. Formed in 1984, FM signed to CBS (Sony) records and toured with such luminaries as Bon Jovi, Tina Turner and Whitesnake plus many more. One Man Blues Rock Band Review 17/5/18

"Things get more stripped down for ‘Tough Luck’ to give a Mississippi Delta feel with a simple guitar and harmonica replacing the all-out rocking feel of what’s gone on before. The audience who seem to have been lost in the mix on the previous track return for ‘Never is Such a Long Time’, another very Bluesy song showcasing some very impressive solos, it sees SH clearly in his element and clocking in at over six minutes long it leaves the listener wondering can this really be the work of just one man? Danny Bryant Islington Review 15/5/18

"Watts' church organ intro prepared us for Bryant's Hendrix sermon of the day - Danny's guitar solo on 'Little Wing' leading his Academy flock to the promised land before one of my all time Bryant favourites - the rockin' 'Prisoner Of The Blues'  - saw Stevie assist Danny in throwing of his shackles as he made his blue guitar sing like a jailbird. Bass guitarist Alex Phillips (who we also saw support Danny so admirably in that Ramblin' Man tent three years ago) and Dave Raeburn then left the stage for Bryant's acoustic version and cover of John Mellencamp's Rock song 'Someday The Rains Will Fall'. Initial amusement, given that Danny had thanked the crowd for coming along on a Tuesday when in fact it was a Wednesday, subsided thanks to a passionate vocal from Bryant with the trusty Watts' keys adding depth to the 2007 'Freedom's Road' track."

Steve Hill Islington Review 13/5/18

"His incessant driving Blues Rock continued to blow away a growing gathering, as Steve mixed it up with favourites such as 'The Collector' - which saw a great Hill vocal, contrasted by the amazing sound he managed to get out of his slide guitar on the Blues classic 'Rollin & Tumblin'. Hill's stock social media plug including Tinder got the usual chuckle as he introduced 'Dangerous' his kick-ass single from 'Volume 3' -  think King King meets Jimi Hendrix – a Blues Rocker if ever there was one, with lyrics about a personal relationship, the subject matter pretty much the backbone of that whole album. On second thoughts, perhaps the mention of Tinder was appropriate?  Steve finished  with another classic cover - 'Voodoo Child (Slight Return)' - not only wringing every sinew out of his guitar but also in his facial expressions as well."

Jizzy Pearl & Doomsday Outlaw Underworld Tonite! 13/5/18

The unmistakable voice from one of the most loved Hard Rock bands of the early 1990’s returns to London's The Underworld in Camden tonight supported by Doomsday Outlaw, a ten-legged Hard Rock, Blues tinged juggernaut based in darkest Derbyshire. Jizzy Pearl of Love/Hate is back with his highly anticipated new solo album ‘All You Need Is Soul’ which was released on Friday via Frontiers Music Srl. They first burst onto the scene in 1990 with the debut album ‘Blackout In The Red Room’ and proceeded to take the UK by storm with Best Album of the Year from Kerrang! and Metal Hammer magazines. Playing sold out shows and opening for Skid Row, AC/DC and Dio put Love/Hate on the map. MTV hits ‘Why Do You Think They Call It Dope', ‘She’s An Angel' and the band’s follow up album ‘Wasted In America’ has ensured a loyal following to this day.

Metal Souls 13/5/18

Japanese guitar hero Nozomu Wakai blasts his way onto the world stage with his project Destinia, featuring music composed, written and produced by Nozomu himself on his new album 'Metal Souls' (see Track Of The Day) due to be released on Friday 13th July on Frontiers. In 2016 Nozomu witnessed a festival performance in Japan by Lords Of Black, featuring vocalist Ronnie Romero. Though Nozomu was well aware of Ronnie's abilities, the new singer for Ritchie Blackmore’s Rainbow nevertheless still blew him away. A direct offer was made and accepted with Ronnie joining Nozomu to participate as the vocalist in Destinia. Having set his course for the direction of the new compositions, Nozomu made the decision to offer Marco Mendoza (Dead Daisies) and Tommy Aldridge (Whitesnake), a rhythm section that had been hugely influential on him, the bass and drum slots to add extra strength to the music. It was an obvious choice for Nozomu's music as these positions would demand the presence of two musicians with a vast knowledge of the history of Hard Rock and Metal. Upon listening to Nozomu's music, the duo were thrilled to get involved.

In For A Penny Tonite! 12/5/18

"Another classic stock Blues Rock riff launches Matthews & Seager's 'Mynah Bird' - its sentiment all very un PC - but boy is she a nightmare and she can take you down with one word, a track that gives Gary licence for some groovy guitar moves plus some great diction from Adam in the mould of his old mucker - the legend that is Nicky Moore. Stocker continues the pub crawl with the succinct Blues of 'When I Get Drunk' -  its premise - why spend your money on a cab or even the bus when you can use the money to have another drink? Well we'll drink to that, as Stocker and Seager's melancholic 'AM Blues' is all about the morning after - no time to feel sorry for yourself, although Seager's guitar work goes a long way to curing that hangover."

Ben Glover's Kindness 12/5/18

Born and raised in Glenarm, Northern Ireland, Nashville based Ben Glover has been hailed by journalists around the world as one of Northern Ireland’s finest exports. A compelling songwriter, who was awarded International Song of the Year at the 2016 UK Americana Awards with Gretchen Peters for their co-written song 'Blackbirds', a song which appears on Glover’s album 'Atlantic' and serves as the title track to Peters’ 2015 solo album, his impending studio album, 'Shorebound', sees him evolve even further as an artist and collaborator. A truly personal collection, Glover is a storyteller who can offer intrigue and insight, while his listeners lose themselves in his rich vocal such as his new single 'Kindness' - which is today's Track Of The Day. Glover has just begun a UK tour which includes London's King’s Place (supporting Mary Gauthier) on Thursday 17th May.

The one man Blues Rock power trio proceeded to blow everyone away as he mixed it up with favourites 'The Collector' and 'Dangerous' plus classsic covers of 'Rollin' & Tumblin' and 'Voodoo Child (Slight Return)'. Meanwhile, Bryant mainly dipped into his recent critically acclaimed album 'Revelation' - his undoubted guitar prowess complemented by his three band amigos, and in particular the amazing Stevie Watts on keys.

Danny's A Revelation 10/5/18

Danny Bryant released his highly anticipated new studio album “'Revelation”' –last month, his fourth studio album to be produced by Richard Hammerton, following in the footsteps of 2015’'s 'Blood Money' and 2014’'s 'Temperature Rising', and the new album is one of Danny’'s most personal and emotional albums of his career. Last night Bryant stopped off on his UK tour at London's Islington Academy 2 with special guest - Canadian one man power trio Steve Hill. Indeed in a recent interview, Bryant opened up on how it's been a difficult year, losing his father and dealing with anxiety and depression. Although, given Bryant's well publicised demons, Danny's set was packed with passion and energy - an impressive display of Danny's Blues/Rock prowess as both a singer and guitarist. Anyway, with a review and more photos to come - in the meantime check out today's Video Of The Day.

Bryant & Hill's Academy Tonite! 9/5/18

"Indeed the opening salvo to this power ballad is very much Bonamassa territory - with its perfect fusion of guitar and keys, driven splendidly by Raeburn on drums, which builds into a killer track that climaxes with Bryant's Skynyrd/Freebird like guitar outro. A fitting way to end 'Revelation', although, given Bryant's well publicised demons, this album isn't a 'downbeat' durge. As expected, it's packed with passion and energy - and is an impressive display of Danny's Blues/Rock prowess as both a singer and guitarist. Dedicated to his father, 'Revelation' is something which, no doubt, his Dad Ken would have been proud of." That was part of our take on Danny Bryant's latest album 'Revelation' and Danny, who is on stage at around 9pm, is joined by special guest Steve Hill (8pm) at London's O2 Academy Islington tonight. Also check out today's Route 66 - One For The Road - Track Of The Day - where Rory Auskerry interview's one man power trio Hill!

Lordi Lordi! 9/5/18

We realise it's not cool to admit it, but this week sees the semi-finals and, ultimately on Saturday, the final of this year's Eurovision Song Contest. Turn the clock back twelve years and Finnish Hard Rock and Melodic Heavy Metal band, Lordi, won the whole competition as the first and only winner from Finland, with all-time record breaking points at the time in Eurovision history.  And this month Lordi's new album slithers onto the scene. Possibly their most controversial album to date, the 9th studio album, 'Sexorcism' (today's Video Of The Day), is a full on and uncensored shot of Lordi brand Hard Rock and Roll.

He is currently active with The Dead Daisies and Revolution Saints. Gioeli’s vocal talents combined with Castronovo’s superb drumming abilities (he is also a fine vocalist in his own right) has made for a stunning album that is a driving Hard Rock record, as well as being chock full of uplifting melodies and poignant lyrical messages.

Molly Hatchet UK Tour 6/5/18

"Closing out the night, and the festival, were Southern Rock legends Molly Hatchet. Somewhat curiously they were minus one guitarist, which meant their usual twin guitar boogie sound was restricted to the single guitar of Bobby Ingram. But he played it with style and they closed the night with a string of classics finishing, obviously, with ‘Boogie No More’." That was our take at Hard Rock Hell in November 2016 and Molly Hatchet return to the UK this December namely: 5th The Robin 2,  Wolverhampton, 6th Waterfront, Norwich, 7th Dingwalls, London, 8th Plug, Sheffield and 9th The Globe, Cardiff.  For tickets go here or call 08444 220 026.

Sceam For Me Sarajevo 5/5/18

During the longest siege a capital city has faced in the history of modern warfare, and amid the mortars and grenades, a Heavy Metal band agreed to play a concert… 'Scream for Me Sarajevo', due to be released on CD/DVD on Friday 29th June, is the astonishing story of the most unlikely of Rock concerts, performed by Bruce Dickinson and his band Skunkworks in 1994. Risking their lives, they were smuggled into the besieged city to play a concert for its citizens amidst the chaos of war. The film is far from a straight concert movie and provides an insight into a wider story of the people of Sarajevo taking drastic measures to endure the privations of war and pushing the boundaries to survive. It reflects a thriving underground arts community who were living their lives in the shadow of war and making music in the face of devastating loss, and the huge impact the concert had on the people of Sarajevo at a time when they thought they had been forgotten by the rest of the world.

The Look 5/5/18

London quartet The King's Parade bridge classic Blues and carefully crafted Pop, similar in tone to the likes of Alabama Shakes, The Black Keys and Leon Bridges. Last year's 'Haze' EP saw the band incorporating notes of Americana in ‘Not Yet’, while ‘Of Stone’ was rich in groove-laden Blues-Rock. Their new single ‘The Look' (today's Track Of The Day) has received great early support, and follows the release of the band’s highly praised single ‘Woman’, the latter which addressed the issue of gender imbalance, led the band to be featured as BBC Introducing’s ‘Artist Of The Week’ and shortlisted for the ‘UMA Choice Award’ at the forthcoming Unsigned Music Awards 2018. The King's Parade have also received high profile critical support from the likes of The Independent, Wonderland, Mahogany, Alternative Press, EARMILK and many more.

Spirit Sing 5/5/18

Today's Video Of The Day is 'Spirit Sing', the lead single from Zealand's debut album 'Liberated'. Already garnering comparisons to Coldplay meets Finding Favour, Zealand achieved criticial acclaim and commercial success for their 2015 debut EP, 'Zealand Worship', and the Tennessee based quartet are excited to take their sound to the next level. Headed up by Phil Joel, who found acclaim in the multi-Platinum Grammy award nominated Newsboys, Zealand have a packed 2018 which sees over a hundred live shows in the U.S., while they hope to make visits to Europe during the year too. The name Zealand is not only a nod to Phil’s native New Zealand, but it’s also representative of the frontman’s charismatic zeal for life. While Phil assumes lead vocals - having recently traded his bass in for guitar - Zealand’s line-up is rounded off by Ben Garrett (guitar), Phil’s cousin Roger Angove (bass) and Ben Bugna (drums).

Tell Me Vinnie 3/5/18

Last week Perfect guitar-Pop band The 27 released their latest infectious gem of a single 'Tell Me', with Vinnie Jones starring in the music video, which is today's Video Of The Day. With their glorious nods to late 60's California and the close harmonies of The Byrds and CS&N but with a hip, modern twist, the band are winning over everyone who hears them. Guitarist/singer Henry Parker, David Page (bass/vocals) and Tom Michell (guitar/vocals) have recently been finishing off their debut album in Los Angeles and have long been drawing accolades for their raw (proudly without autotune), honest and soulful performances with one reviewer praising their “gutsy Hard Rock with a retro bend”. But despite the archive influences, theirs is a sound which also feels wonderfully of now, and their accomplished playing speaks of real talent breaking the stranglehold of uber-groovy producers churning out glossy, meaningless conveyor-belt Pop.

Turner Prize 3/5/18

From Wishbone Ash to John Lennon’'s iconic “'Imagine”' Album to the creation of a brand new musical genre, Rolling Stones’ Top 20 Guitarist, Ted Turner, and his wife and musical partner, Majella, recently launched their first artistic collaboration, the “'Better Together”' album, prompting their international fan base to welcome their creation as the birth of a new musical genre: “New Age Soul.” Released via Cherry Red, this playbook of 12 original songs is inspired by their thirteen-year journey as first friends, then lovers, and, more recently, husband and wife collaborators, 'Better Together' (see today's Track Of The Day) is a hauntingly lyrical, soul-touching testament to their journey from getting to know one another to discovering their true selves through music, which, they say, “has been the glue that brought and has held them together throughout.”

Arkansas Dave Muscle's In 3/5/18

It’s a romantic cliché to find an escape in music and the Blues, but living that life is a different matter. Ask Arkansas Dave about growing up in a broken home, with fundamental Christianity on one side, and crippling drug-addiction on the other, and you can see in his eyes that this is no easy ride, and that at times music really was his only friend. Fast forward to two weeks ago and Dave released the self-titled album he’s always wanted to create – a wide ranging Blues-Rock based record that tells the story of his life, but resonates with all of us. The project just needed one more ingredient, so enter the Swampers, the legendary Muscle Shoals Rhythm Section. In a blistering eight-day recording session at Fame Studios the band laid down the backing tracks, and Dave returned to Arlyn to complete the vocals.  So the next chapter of Dave’s life is about to be written as he pulls his band together and takes his album out on the road in July including London's Green Note on Friday 13th.

From The Ashes 2/5/18

Refuge marks the reunion of arguably the most successful, line-up of the German Metal band Rage, featuring Peavy Wagner, Manni Schmidt and Christos Efthimiadis. Refuge played some hugely successful festival shows in mainland Europe in the summer of 2015. The audience reaction to the 1988-1993 Rage songs they performed was truly overwhelming and exceeded all expectations. More shows were played in 2016, including three in Japan, exactly 20 years after they had played their last shows together first time around, coincidentally also in Japan! The debut album by Refuge, entitled ‘Solitary Men’, due out on Friday 8th June, is the first album of original material from the classic Rage line-up in a quarter of a century and will surely satisfy fans who remember their now legendary albums. Check out their single 'From The Ashes' which is today's Track Of The Day.

21st Century High Voltage 2/5/18

Hailed recently by Rolling Stone Magazine as the “21st Century’s answer to Led Zeppelin II”, Sky Valley Mistress (Video Of The Day) are yet to release a debut album but this is about to change … Inventors of the power chord and Iggy Pop’s influence behind forming The Stooges, they have returned from the Californian Desert after recording their unreleased debut album at the infamous Rancho de la Luna studio. Sky Valley Mistress begin a run of UK shows this Friday 4th May at Blackpool's The Waterloo, which also takes in London's New Cross Inn on Saturday 19th May.

You Really Got Me! 1/5/18

Following on from the success of last year’s Wrinklystock 6 charity concert ‘Magic - a kind of Queen & a kind of ELO’ - this year’s Wrinklystock 7 at the Mick Jagger Centre, Dartford, on Friday 7th December at 7.30pm stars The

Kast off Kinks, featuring three former members of the legendary band The Kinks! With support once again from Wrinklystock legends The Replicants, The Kast off Kinks are back together playing great music and re-living the good times whilst keeping the songs alive that made The Kinks a household name - featuring Mick Avory (original drummer on all the classic hits from 1964-84), Ian Gibbons (keyboards/vocals, Kinks 80’s & 90’s and still with Sir Ray Davies), John Dalton (bass/vocals, Kinks 60’s & 70’s) alongside Dave Clarke (guitar/vocals, formerly of the Beach Boys, Noel Redding & Tim Rose). Expect an evening of iconic hits including: 'You Really Got Me', 'Dedicated Follower of Fashion', 'Sunny Afternoon', 'Lola', 'Days', 'Waterloo Sunset', 'Come Dancing', 'All Day and All of the Night' plus more... A great night out, not to be missed! Tickets can now be purchased for £23 from the MJC Box Office on 01322 291100.
