Theatre Of Tragedy - Remixed 31/7/19

In 2010, Theatre Of Tragedy announced their break-up and drew a line under their impressive career with 'Last Curtain Call'. Earlier this month, the Norwegian Gothic Rock band returned with a compilation of different remixes of their biggest successes - 'Remixed' - a collection of very different reimagined versions of some of their best known, and not so well known songs from throughout their career. Indeed, in the mid 90's, Theatre Of Tragedy's uniqueness wrote themselves into music history with albums like 'Velvet Darkness They Fear' and 'Aegis'. Never before had a band combined a dark male voice with a charming, bright female voice to this extent, creating such an extraordinary diversity of dark and atmospheric shades that ultimately contributed to making Gothic Rock/Metal so popular around the globe.

Shadow Of King John 31/7/19

Danny Vaughn is recognised worldwide for his melodic, powerful and emotional vocals, and today's Video Of The Day is his latest single, 'Shadow of King John', taken from his latest solo album: his first in eleven years. It's the solo album this talented singer, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist and storyteller always wanted to make and 'Myths, Legends and Lies', released via Townsend Music last month, is a 14-track album that turned out to be an epic quest in its making and rare treasure at its release. To lovers of Rock, Danny is best-known for his involvement with Waysted (1985-1987) and famed for his flourishing voice-work with Melodic Rockers Tyketto. Now, this To coincide with the album's release, Danny will also be undertaking a new UK tour including London's Black Heart in Camden on Thursday 22nd August.

Dig Rock On The Ridge 31/7/19

Ocean Alley Infinity 30/7/19

Aussie groove masters Ocean Alley recently released their brand new single ‘Infinity’ (today's Video Of The Day), the dreamy follow-up to their most recent cut ‘Stained Glass’. Premiered by Billboard in the US, the track came in the midst of the band’s North American tour, providing yet another taste of their infectious brand of genre-fusing bliss. Hailing from Sydney’s Northern Beaches, the six-piece consisting of Baden Donegal (vocals), Angus Goodwin (guitar), Nic Blom (bass), Lach Galbraith (keys/vocals), Mitch Galbraith (guitar) and Tom O’Brien (drums), the band will spend the rest of the Australian Winter months in Europe, playing 18 shows across the continent including an appearance at Budapest’s world-renowned Sziget Festival and a sold out headline show at London’s iconic Electric Ballroom on Tuesday 27th August.

Tuesday Blues Mojo 30/7/19

Before its August sabbatical, Tuesday Blues at the iconic 100 Club in London's Oxford Street tonight, features headliners Mojo Preachers, Jamie Williams Roots Collective plus Andy J Palmer. Playing emotive and authentic Progressive Blues with a heartfelt stage presence to match, Mojo Preachers recently released their new album 'Man Made Monster'. Jared James Nichols Boston Review 29/7/19

"However, a pivotal moment in Nichols career could be his latest single 'Nails In My Coffin'. It's  a curveball, but a brilliant curveball that is quite possibly his most profound and most successful song to date. The single premiered on BBC Radio 2 as well as heavy A-List Rotation on Planet Rock and was duly dispatched with aplomb to rapturous applause. Awesome. Jared then thanked Vambo and then poignantly shared how great it was to be headlining rather than getting a ten minute support slot! The pounding Blues Rock of the superb 'Hardwired To Love' made way for some on stage drinking games before Nichols deviated from his aforementioned Living Colour support set. The headbanger 'Blackfoot' saw Jared venture into the audience once more before another explosive opening solo on 'Run' saw that famous JJN Colgate smile as he eased into another awesome solo."

With so much going on musically recently, we finally play catch up today with AJ's review here of Jared James Nichols gig at London's Boston Music Room on Thursday 18th July, supported by Vambo (today's Video Of The Day).

Piston Ramblin' Man Interview 29/7/19

"Guitarist Jack Edwards sports a beautiful Gretsch White Falcon (apparently inspired by Bill Duffy) through a modern Kemper modelling amp whilst fellow six stringer Luke Allatt takes the more traditional Fender/Vox approach. With Stuart Egan on bass and Brad Newlands on drums the line up is complete. Fun and Fire in equal measures, this is a fist pumping, chest beating forty minutes of Rock joy. They get a lot of love from the crowd who chant along and cheer with gusto. Their own tracks – 'Rainmaker', 'One More Day' and 'Leave If You Dare' are awesome but it is their closing cover of CCR’s 'Proud Mary', rocked up to feck, that has me beaming and screaming along with them. What a great band. Keep an eye on this lot."

That was part of our Piston Ramblin' Man Fair review from last Sunday, and after their set, Mother caught up with the band for an interview here which is also today's Track Of The Day.

Meanwhile, Status Quo tribute act Just Supposin’ capture the raw energy and excitement of the original ‘Frantic Four’ line up of this classic British Rock band. Puddle Of Mudd Photo Gallery 28/7/19

Today check out both our Puddle Of Mudd Photo Gallery here plus our Video Of The Day, taken on a boiling hot night at London's Islington Assembly Hall last Thursday. In fact, the last time we saw Puddle Of Mudd was in Islington in March 2016, the O2 Academy gig turning out to be memorable for all the right and wrong reasons, our review concluding that "We don't fuc*ing hate you Wes - just please get your demons sorted out mate." Anyway, fast forward three years and time is certainly a healer as lead singer Wes Scantlin has duly done that. And despite Wes apparently suffering from flu, his new POM compadres rolled back the years performing fan favourites, 'Control', 'Blurry' and of course 'She Hates Me'.

Bad Touch Ramblin' Man Interview 28/7/19

"But before I do, I get the 'luxury' of being 'allowed' into the VIP suite to watch a short acoustic set by the fabulous Bad Touch. The five piece are no stranger to festivals, or Ramblin' Man, having been working the circuits for years. Today's short set strips away their electric sound to show their Blues Rock in a more laid back style although with no less excitement. Vocalist Stevie Westwood doesn't seem to get phased by anything so opening day to a major festival is just another day for him and the band. They are writing more songs at the moment so expect a new album in the Spring next year. If it's as good as their last album - 'Shake A Leg' - it will be worth a listen."

That was our Bad Touch Ramblin' Man Fair review from last Saturday, and after their set, Mother caught up with the band for an interview here which is also today's Track Of The Day.

Ben Poole Photo Gallery 27/7/19

With a review in the pipeline, today check out our photo gallery here (courtesy of Tim Russell) from International Blues/Rock/Soul guitarist, singer-songwriter Ben Poole's Half Moon, Putney, gig last Wednesday night. Indeed, Ben began recording a new double live album at Barnsley’s Old Schoolhouse the night before, followed by a live recording at The Half Moon, and then also at the Bootleggers in Kendal, Cumbria, the following night. The concerts, featuring Wayne Proctor on drums, showcased a selection of Ben’s most popular songs from his past two albums - 2018’s critically acclaimed 'Anytime You Need Me' and 2016’s 'Time Has Come'. The forthcoming double live album, released by House of Tone Records, marks Ben’s first live album in five years, and follows the BBC recorded 'Live At The Royal Albert Hall' in 2014.

Rainbreakers Ramblin' Man Interview 27/7/19

After Rainbreakers awesome Ramblin' Man Fair Rising Stage set last Saturday, we caught up with drummer Sam, lead singer Ben and lead guitarist Charlie for an interview here which is also today's Track Of The Day. Indeed, following other impressive Summer Festival appearances at the likes of Cornbury and more, not only have the West Country Rock 'n' Soul band now announced a headlining 'Ain't Nothing Going On' UK tour in November, but the band are also special guests to the fantastic Alabama 3 on Friday 2nd August at The Tivoli Venue, Buckley, Flintshire, plus this talented, hardworking 4-piece outfit will also be touring the Czech Republic in October and early November!

From 4pm till 9pm today, Camden Rocks presents another all-day Rock-n-Roll series featuring JK Historian + Pet Needs + Adrenaline Animals + Dirty Falcon - all live at The Monarch. Meanwhile, at 2pm today Mojo Preachers (pictured and Video Of The Day) take to the stage at Blues At Barleylands, Barleylands Social Club, Barleylands Road, Billericay, Essex CM11 2UF. Playing emotive and authentic Progressive Blues with a heartfelt stage presence to match, the band recently released their new album 'Man Made Monster'. A well-seasoned, experienced and talented band of creatives who specialise in conjuring a melodiously intricate and original sound, that while rooted in the Blues, has its mixing spoons in many pots, some of which are; Fusion Blues, Psychedelic Swamp, Funk and Rock.

Ramblin' Man Day 3 Review 26/7/19

"During 'Heartbreaker' we get a mosh pit going – which at Ramblin’ Man is a rare sight indeed. And 'It’s All For Rock ‘n’ Roll' is dedicated to the one and only Lemmy. So Joel wheels out a mobile "Lemmy’s Bar" on stage and pours out Jack and Coke’s which he hands out to the audience. Then rocks on with aplomb. There are some tech problems with his guitar but no fuss here.... Drummer Ryan decides that drumming needs something different. So introduces an air raid siren to the mix. Which he gleefully winds up to a frenzy before Joel kicks in from the top of the Marshall stacks into 'Live It Up'. He then proceeds to throw beers to the crowd – "Lets be like the English cricket team and catch these" he shouts to everyone’s joy. They close with their anthemic 'Runnin’ Wild', with a few bars of 'Let There Be Rock' thrown in for good measure, to leave the howling crowd wanting more."

Crobot Underworld Tonight 26/7/19

"Back in the Grooverider tent, things are really hotting up. Pennsylvanian Hard/Funk rockers Crobot are raising the mercury and raising hell. Although ordinarily a two piece - Brandon Yeagley on lead vocals and Chris Bishop on telecaster and Orange amps – they tour as a four piece. Their brand of Rock suits the stage name perfectly with Yeagley, resplendent in a sparkly reflective waistcoat, high kicking his way around the small stage whilst Bishop quietly gets on with the business of breaking your face with his chugging riffs. The heat is unbearable, the sound is unbeatable."

That was Mother's review of Crobot on the Grooverider stage at Ramblin' Man Fair on Sunday, and Pottsville USA's very own are playing London's The Underworld in Camden tonight, in advance of the release of their new album 'Motherbrain' on Friday 23rd August.

Collateral Ramblin' Man Interview 25/7/19

"Back at the Rising stage we see another band that are going places - and all of them good. Collateral - previously known as the Angelo Tristan Band - are fronted by charismatic singer Angelo Tristan. Well I never. Looking like the love child of Steve Tyler and Jack Sparrow, Tristan and his band of rock and rollers look like they would fit comfortably into the main stage. As it is, the four piece showed their talent by making their way to the Rising stage by winning a 40 band competition. Guitarist Todd Winger plays a Jackson guitar through Orange amps giving the band an almost Metal sound although they are clearly rockers. Ones to watch."

That was our Collateral Ramblin' Man Fair review from last Saturday, and after their set we caught up with bass guitarist Jack Bentley Smith and lead singer Angelo Tristan for an interview here which is also today's Track Of The Day.

Ramblin' Man Day 2 Review 25/7/19

"The headline act and closing the Main stage are Black Stone Cherry. What a great live band. It is noticeable that BSC have a considerable following of younger rockers as well as those of more experienced years. The Kentucky quartet have been around since the early naughties but still feel to me like a fresh new band. And what a back catalogue. Every track is a diamond, played with all the power and passion that frontman Chris Robertson and the band can muster. This is rock played from the heart. The crowd love it. The band live it. It's electric. A fine production too. Ben Wells prances around like a maniac as does bassist Lawhon whilst Robertson owns the centre stage, and the entire park. Some of the stand outs in a flawless set include the almost reggae like version of 'In My Blood' and the 'Purple Haze' section in 'Cheaper To Drink Alone'. But it's difficult to single out anything in a set that had everyone singing at the top of their voices throughout. The closing track, by way of the encore, sees Chris get everyone in the audience to hold hands and raise them in the name of piece as they sign off with 'Peace Is Free'. Great ending to a great set."

Puddle Of Mudd Assembly Tonight 25/7/19

The last time we saw Puddle Of Mudd was in Islington in March 2016, the O2 Academy gig turning out to be memorable for all the right and wrong reasons. Fast forward to July 2017 and POM were due to  return to London at Highbury's The Garage, but once news filtered through after The Fallen State's set that POM lead singer Wes Scantlin (pictured) had not been allowed to leave the USA - and that the band would not be appearing - we were understandably not happy! Anyway, two years down the line, time is indeed a healer, as we look forward to seeing them tonight at London's Islington Assembly Hall!

Half Moon Poole Tonight 24/7/19

International Blues/Rock/Soul guitarist, singer-songwriter Ben Poole began recording a new double live album at Barnsley’s Old Schoolhouse last night, and the live recording continues at London’s The Half Moon in Putney tonight and Bootleggers in Kendal, Cumbria, tomorrow night. The concerts, featuring Wayne Proctor on drums, will showcase a selection of Ben’s most popular songs from his past two albums - 2018’s critically acclaimed 'Anytime You Need Me' and 2016’s 'Time Has Come'. The forthcoming double live album, released by House of Tone Records, marks Ben’s first live album in five years, and follows the BBC recorded 'Live At The Royal Albert Hall' in 2014.

Ramblin' Man Day 1 Review 24/7/19

"Frankie does get to open 'One Way Ticket' with some obligatory cowbell but it's the Justin show really. We are offered a competition to win a small piece of Frankie which requires copious quantities of screaming from the crowd. I'm not sure who won or which bit they got. 'Barbarian' again allows the crowd to try and match Justin's falsetto. I think I managed an off key Tenor and that was just what I paid for my beer with. We are also treated to some newer tracks like 'Japanese Prisoner Of Love' from their 2018 album 'Pinewood Smile'. And they have a new album out in October called 'Easter Is Cancelled' - so lots more new stuff on the way. Justin disappears briefly whilst the band jams only to reappear in an outrageous denim blue coloured velour jumpsuit with matching hat. Freddie Mercury would have been jealous. And Justin has the crowd bouncing BEFORE he launched into the closing 'I Believe In A Thing Called Love'. And bounce we did, all the way to the end."

Electrowerkz London Gig Review 23/7/19

"The band mix the modern and past, playing tracks such as ‘Radicals’, and ‘Isolation’ from the new album to keep the crowd going. There is a lot of energy here and I am left very satisfied with all three bands I have seen giving me excellent value for my money. 1919 take their name from “a year of massive change and desperate rebellion”. A century on in 2019, some things haven’t changed with quite a desperate year to come with a new Prime Minister and the Brexit question to be setteld, but at least I’ve got some cracking tunes to keep me distracted!"

Ramblin' Man Fair Photo Gallery 23/7/19

"Openers The Lazys are just the ticket. Hailing from Sydney, the five piece Australian Rockers give instant vibes of other well known Australian Rock bands (more of which on Day 3). That is no bad thing as, far from being stereotypical, they bring all the unbridled, rough and ready Rock tones that says up yours to the world but with a huge smile and endless joy and energy. Their 2018 album was called 'Sleaze Roxx' - i guess that says it all. Frontman Leon Harrison is pumped and saunters around the stage trying to outshine the awesome Rock sound of the Les Paul and Telecaster blasting out through their Marshall JCM800 amps delivering that Classic Rock sound. Oh, and they are all dressed completely in black. In fact, if it hadn't been for the red Tele, we might have lost them in the gloom. The rain started but nobody cares as we Rock along in fine form and cheer them mightily as their short thirty minute slot is over oh too soon. Well done Ramblin' Man Fair - great choice of how to open a weekend. And well played the Lazys - you did yourselves proud."

The line-up for ‘Last Place On Earth’ is rounded out by Demurtas’ fellow Tristania member Tarald Lie on drums, who also wrote the lyrics for the songs. Penny For Your Thoughts 15/7/19

"The album contains 14 all-original compositions recounting some of the trials and tribulations of life in and around the Medway Delta. A diverse range of styles are covered including slow minor Blues, shuffles, heavy and raw and acoustic delta Blues - with Seager, vocalist Adam Stocker and experienced session bass guitarist Gavin Matthews contributing all the songs, some by collaboration and some sole-written.  Recorded and mixed in just three days at Ranscombe Studios in Rochester by Jim Riley (who remembers The Herbs?), the album perfectly captures the live essence of the band." That was part of our take on Bad Pennies (pictured) 2018 WRC Award winning CD 'Songs From The Medway Delta' and the band are currently on the look out for a new vocalist. If you can help in any way then please go here!

Big Gilson At TNMC Tonite 9/7/19

When the average fan thinks of hotbeds of the Blues, he or she thinks of cities like Chicago, Austin, and Memphis, and even such far-flung outposts as London and Paris. That’s all set to change, however, as red-hot Brazilian guitarist Big Gilson (Video Of The Day), a TopCat Records artist, is poised to put Rio de Janeiro on the Blues map tonight, with Blues Dynamite UK, at the Tuesday Night Music Club, The Comrades Club, Coulsdon CR5 2NF.

Bucket & Co At Half Moon Tonite 4/7/19

"After the excellent opener ‘Animal Beat’ and the radio-friendly hook of the title track, ‘Rebel Heart’ sees Stapley mining a higher register (more akin to the sound of Foreigner perhaps) and we do get treated to a Marriott after all! On this track and the next pair, ‘The Bridge’ and ‘Whiskeyland’ (the latter of which features lead guitar by Ross McEwen), the strong backing vocals are provided by Steve’s daughter Mollie, whose contributions are instantly recognisable, even at this early stage in her career. ‘Rebel Heart’ and ‘The Bridge’ also feature some nice piano work by Richard Young." That was part of our take on Dave “Bucket” Colwell's latest CD '20 Good Summers' and after Saturday's gig at the Cart And Horses (pictured) Bucket & Co's six date UK tour culminates at another London venue tonight - The Half Moon in Putney supported by Collateral.

Lynyrd Skynyrd Wembley Arena Review 3/7/19

"But then the clincher: at the start of the second verse, Johnny shelves his mic, puts a familiar looking hat on the mic stand, and leaves the stage … to leave us with vintage Ronnie on the big screen, taking all of the second verse and break to the instrumental - perfectly synchronised old image, great quality Ronnie vocal (complete with “How bout you?“), and live performance of the music itself.  The closing section is, as you’d expect, flawless…. monumental... epic… emotional – pick your own superlative; they all apply.

And so, with waves and bows, the show was over, and after Birmingham on Sunday night, so is their presence on these shores.  Farewell tours have been known to be false dawns (or should that be false sunsets?) before of course, but this felt, as billed, like a true farewell.

I doubt we’ll see their like again."

We Will Rise 3/7/19

Swedish Metallers Tungsten recently released the title track of their forthcoming full length album 'We Will Rise' (today's Track of The Day) which will be available on Friday 20th September via Arising Empire. The band was formed in 2016 by drummer Anders Johansson (ex-Hammerfall), after his sons Karl and Nick had let him listen to some songs they had composed together. With drums (Anders), guitars (Nick), bass (Karl) and their newly composed songs, they asked Mike Andersson (Cloudscape) to do vocals, given both his powerful voice and varied style of singing which was a perfect fit to Tungsten's music.

Live & Outta Sight II 3/7/19

Today's Video Of The Day of Psychedelic-Blues renegades DeWolff, is the live video for fan favourite, 'Tombstone Child', taken from their new live record ‘Live & Outta Sight II,’ which was recorded over their 2018-19 tour of the Netherlands and released on Mascot Records last month. The band was formed in the Netherlands’ Deep South of Geleen, when they were barely teenagers in 2007 by brothers’ Pablo (singer/guitarist) and Luka van de Poel (drums) and Hammond organist Robin Piso. Following the release of 2018's ‘Thrust’ that crashed into the Dutch Top 10 Album Charts and the acclaim that followed, the band picked up the prestigious Dutch Edison Award for ‘Best Rock Album’ in February, which capped off an incredible nine months and saw the band play over 100 shows across 13 countries.

Alive And Dangerous In Camden 2/7/19

"The crowd lapped it up, as the mastermind behind the drums, Brian Downey; counted in the songs keeping the rhythms tight, with Wilson on bass.  With his big curly hair and engaging smile Matt Wilson certainly looks the part, but he very much has his own powerful stage persona and completely owns the stage. The energy of the band went from strength to strength, 'Still In Love With You' soared with Grace and Edgar's guitar playing feeding off each other in dual guitar harmonies with high octane solos sweeping every head banger into the sleaze driven funky mood of 'Johnny The Fox'. The band didn't miss a hit, including all those well-known Lizzy songs that even a non-rocker would know, 'The Boys Are Back In Town', 'The Rocker' and 'Don't Believe A Word'." That was part of our take on Brian Downey's Alive And Dangerous at Nell's Jazz & Blues in February last year and the boys are back in London town on Thursday 7th November at The Underworld in Camden.

Enigma Fire 2/7/19

Visionatica's second album, ‘Enigma Fire’ (see today's Video Of The Day), due to be released next Friday 12th July, marks the beginning of a new worldwide collaboration between the Nuremburg based act and Frontiers Music. Led by vocalist Tamara Amedov alongside guitarist Manuel Buhl, drummer Gerhard Spanner and bass player Tim Zahn, the German band first entered the Symphonic Metal scene in 2016 with their debut album ‘Force Of Luna’. With fantastic, crystal clear soprano vocals combined with powerful grooves, melodic guitars and orchestral elements, fans of bands such as Nightwish, Within Temptation, Delain and Xandria will find much to love here.

Anniversary Blues 2/7/19

Today's Blues On The Radio Track Of The Day features a run down on who's coming to The Tuesday Night Music Club in the run up to it's fifth Anniversary. With a scattering of IBBA albums of the month, it all adds up to an incredible hour of great music featuring Catfish, Half Deaf Clatch, Kyla Brox, Irene Rae, Geoff Achison, R.K. Turner, Big Gilson, Jimmie Vaughan, Railroad Band, James & Black, The Lewis Hamilton Band and, of course, ahead of his show at The TNMC, The Comrades Club, Coulsdon CR5 2NF,  tonight, a couple of tracks from Robin Bibi Band (pictured).

Danny Bryant CD Review 1/7/19

"Song of the Album for me (apart from the instrumental masterpiece at the end) is ‘Nine Lives’ hitting deep into riff country. ‘Skin And Bone’ brings a break in an acoustic form, while ‘Warning Signs’ brings us back into the heavy Blues rhythm machine. A piano intro on the ballad ‘When The River Ends’ falls right into Gary Moore territory followed by ‘Hurting Time’ with Danny unleashing the slide guitar techniques he’s well known for."

Lynyrd Skynyrd Photo Gallery 1/7/19

With the added bonus of a review to come, check out today's Photo Gallery here, as Lynyrd Skynyrd brought its Last Of The Street Survivors Tour to a very hot Wembley Arena in London on Saturday night with great support from Status Quo and Massive Wagons. The Rock and Roll Hall of Famers are currently saying farewell to fans across Europe and the U.K. with a nine-city trek, armed with a catalogue of over 60 albums, sales beyond 30 million worldwide and their beloved classic American Rock anthems, 'Sweet Home Alabama' and 'Freebird'. Indeed it was an honour to witness the last throes of a cultural icon that appeals to multiple generations, carrying a steely mantle forged in the sweaty confines of the Hell House in Jacksonville decades earlier.
