Wille & The Bandits CD Review 31/1/19

"It's now 'Retribution' time - the final track on the album - the band signing off with the message of how governments have sold out our planet and it is now payback time. More like 'Retro-bution', given Edwards soaring Skynyrd like lap slide solo, once again consolidated by Brooks and Naumann's solid foundations plus some awesome keys. A real cracker to round off an album that has everything musically: attitude, experimentation, energy, diversity and thought provoking messages, whilst at the same time having the beauty of the manoeuvrability of another dimension in a raw, live, environment. This is real Rock 'n' Roll as we know it, personified. On this evidence, Wille & The Bandits are certainly heading down the right path."

Wille & The Bandits release their new album 'Paths' by Fat Toad Records and distributed by Proper tomorrow, encapsulating the excitement and gusto of Rock ’n’ Roll. Read the whole of AJ's review here plus check out our Track Of The Day.

Skid Row Forum Gig Review 31/1/19

"In true 80's Rock style, the boys exit the stage only to reappear for not one but two encores. It's a bargain night that keeps on giving. 'We Are The  Damned' leads into school boy favourite 'Get The Fuck Out'. The last of my pharynx fucked off. 'Mudkicker' and 'In A Darkened Room' lead to the obvious closer 'Youth Gone Wild'. What a song. Don't know about the youth, but we went wild alright. 30 years in the business? How the hell did they last playing at that level? Practice makes perfect I suppose. Hopefully i will be back in shape with a new set of pipes before their set at Download later this year."

Aynsley Lister Photo Gallery 31/1/19

Despite the weather forecast of snow and its resultant transport disruption, in the end it was allegedly a Black Cab protest that caused gridlock in London on Tuesday night! Consequently this delayed the arrival of two members of support band Big River for their gig at the iconic 100 Club in Oxford Street. Despite this, fair play to the Ryk Mead duo who jammed with the Big River duo present, until the other two members of Big River finally arrived - the band eventually hammering out just two very welcome songs. On a cold and very wet night, the Tuesday Night Blues faithful were rewarded with a great gig with further outstanding sets from both The Ryk Mead Band (pictured) and headliner Aynsley Lister as pictured in our Photo Gallery here.

Aynsley Nails It Again 30/1/19

Was it really a year ago that we last saw Aynsley Lister performing at this very venue? With his hard hitting rhythms and guitar work reminiscent of a young Eric Clapton, Lister is still one of very few artists playing Blues-infused Rock with a modern edge – heartfelt, soul searching and full of fine song-writing played with both passion and vitality. Fast forward to London's iconic 100 Club last night and another killer performance just the same. With our Photo Gallery to come and despite traffic gridlock, great support from a combination of both the Ryk Mead Band and Big River, check out today's Video Of The Day.

Big Indie AmericanaFest Showcase Tonight 30/1/19

As an official host sponsor at the AmericanaFestUK Music Festival & Conference this year, Austin, Texas, based 'Big Indie' are hosting a showcase stage tonight at Night Tales at 14 Bohemia Place, Mare Street, Hackney, London E8 1DU. For those unfamiliar with the UK’s ever-growing Americana scene, Big Indie’s showcase is a perfect introduction. An eclectic and exciting mix of local and international, doors open at 6pm and the evening will be headlined by the incredible Whiskey Shivers at 11.30pm. Also flying in especially from the US are Willi Carlisle (7.30pm) and Dylan Earl (6.30pm), alongside Big Indie’s own Arkansas Dave at 10.30pm, who is performing as part of his UK tour (pictured).

Saturday Night's Alright For Rockin' 30/1/19

On this week's WRC Award winning Rock On The Ridge Track Of The Day, originally broadcast last Saturday night, there's music from City Of Thieves, Black Rose Reception, L.A. Guns, Eric Gales, 3 Wheeler Band, Barbarian Overlords, The Vintage Caravan, Greta Van Fleet, Budgie, Deadland Ritual, Greenleaf, The Black Marbles, Kim Jennett, 68-75, Graveyard, GoldWater, The Brew, Federal Charm, Slydigs, Little Red Kings, Inglorious, The Temperance Movement, Rival Sons (pictured) and Stoneking.

Aynsley's Back! 29/1/19

"Aynsley Lister literally played through the pain barrier at The 100 Club on Tuesday night. Suffering from a trapped nerve in his back (which necessitated the cancellation of his Robin 2 gig last Thursday no less) and consequently drugged up to the eyeballs on painkillers, Aynsley put in a killer performance which belied the agony he's been in. Drawing mainly on tracks from his  last album 'Home'  - for which Lister deservedly won both 'Best Blues Song ' and 'Best Songwriter' at the 2014 British Blues Awards - his undoubted quality as a guitarist and vocalist is not only complemented by the strength of his back-catalogue e.g. 'Equilibrium'  but also his band - despite another change in his line-up since we last saw them at last year's Bluesfest. A great set to end a great evening of live Blues - but no pat on the back Aynsley!" That was our take on Aynsley Lister nearly four years ago to the day at London's 100 Club (pictured) and Aynsley headlines the same iconic venue tonight as part of Tuesday Blues supported by the Ryk Mead Band and Big River.

Sydney Rococo 29/1/19

Check out today's Video Of The Day, the stunning video for Steve Kilbey's single 'Sydney Rococo'. Kilbey, one of Australia’s most loved artists, released his new album 'Sydney Rococo' worldwide at the end of November via Golden Robot Records. 'Sydney Rococo' is a collection of songs Kilbey has written over the last five years. The songs sing of Sydney and her ocean pools, her underground seedy hangouts and treachery. The picture is painted in every song about life in this fast growing and evolving Australian city, famed for her beaches and landmarks. Steve is Australian contemporary music royalty. A prolific artist who has written, performed and produced twenty one solo albums, as well as thirty with Rock legends The Church.

Independent Venue Week 28/1/19

Independent Venue Week begins today - a 7 day celebration of small music venues around the country and a nod to the people that own, run and work in them, week in, week out. These venues give artists their first experience of playing live in front of an audience and for fans, somewhere to get up close to artists that one day, may well be playing stadiums and festival main stages. Supported using public funding by Arts Council England in the UK and also the wider music industry and brands globally, Independent Venue Week brings together these venues along with breaking and established artists, promoters, labels, media, bloggers and tastemakers to create a nationwide series of gigs. These venues are the backbone of the live music scene in their country and Independent Venue Week wants to recognise all that they have done to create some of the most memorable nights of the past so they can continue to do the same in the future. Anyway, check out today's BluesClub photo gallery here, taken last Thursday by Bruce Biege at one of these treasured live venues, Twickenham's Eel Pie Club.

The Devil You Know 28/1/19

Hot on the heels of the success of their last album, ‘The Missing Peace’, L.A. Guns (Track Of The Day) is ready to attack again with a brand new record, ‘The Devil You Know’, out on Friday 29th March. Sonically, the album covers a lot of ground and incorporates influences from Black Sabbath to Led Zeppelin to Kyuss to The Hellacopters, while still managing to sound distinctly like L.A. Guns. The band is rejuvenated and inspired after relentless touring and are taking no prisoners. L.A. Guns are truly one of the great American Hard Rock bands of the last three decades. From their self-titled debut in 1988, right through to their widely praised 2017 comeback album, they have always delivered solid Rock ‘n' Roll to their fans. The current incarnation of the band has been touring non-stop and the cohesiveness of the unit, not to mention Phil Lewis’ stunning and unique vocals and Tracii Guns’ mind-bending guitar playing, are on full display on the new album. Definitely a must hear for all fans of the band, both old and new!

100% Proof 28/1/19

Last Friday saw Gin Annie (today's Video Of The Day) release their debut album '100% Proof' via Off Yer Rocka. Gin Annie are a Hard Melodic Rock 5-piece from Wolverhampton, featuring heavy guitar driven songs whilst maintaining a melodic vocal style; hook-laden choruses and classy melodies. They are based around the nucleus of cousins, Dave Foster (vocals) and Byron Garbett (guitars). In November 2017, the Black Country rockers saw a change of line-up to form MKII of the band, with the addition of Brian Green on guitar and Phill ‘Hammer’ Burrows on bass. Drumming powerhouse Jack Ryland-Smith completes the group. Produced and engineered by Jay Shredder and recorded at Shredder Live Lounge, the new record is a hard hitting but Melodic Hard Rock masterpiece from last years HRH Highway to Hell Winners.

Under The Bridge Photo Gallery 27/1/19

Check out our latest Photo Gallery here from the Atomic Rooster and Clearwater Creedence Revival gig at Chelsea's Under The Bridge venue on Friday night. The legendary Prog band featured two original members, Peter French on vocals and Steve 'Boltz' Bolton on guitar, with Shug Millage (bass), Bo Walsh (drums) and Adrian Gautrey (organ/keys). Playing with the full blessing of Vincent Crane’s widow, the band's set included the hits 'Tomorrow Night' and 'Devil’s Answer' plus an encore and cover of The Crazy World of Arthur Brown's 'Fire' - the band of which Atomic Rooster were formed from the ashes of in 1969. Special guests were the check shirted Clearwater Creedence Revival who performed, surprise, surprise, the greatest hits of Creedence Clearwater Revival. Championed by none other than Zoot Money standing at the side of the stage, it was easy to see why these guys were back by popular demand.

Man With A Mission 27/1/19

Japanese superstars Man With A Mission have announced the brilliantly unique Electro/Rock Norwegian outfit Biru Baby as support on their UK and European tour starting in February (except Moscow and St. Petersburg). The tour will start at Manchester’s Academy3 on Wednesday 27th February, call at London’s ULU the following night, before heading to Europe for shows in Germany, France and Russia. The tour follows the release of their most recent album, 'Chasing the Horizon' (see today's Track Of The Day), the wolf collective’s fifth in their native Japan, but their first brand new album to be released worldwide and has received widespread critical acclaim.

Hands Off Gretel 27/1/19

South Yorkshire Melodic Grunge/Punk band Hands Off Gretel release their new album ‘I Want The World’ (see Video Of The Day) on Friday 29th March on their own label Puke Pop Records. Fronted by the whirlwind of style, creativity and attitude that is Lauren Tate on vocals/guitar, they  are an explosion of colour and sound, much needed in 2019! Inspired by the volatile and liberating melody fueled noise of bands such as Hole, The Distillers, Nirvana and PJ Harvey, the album features twelve-tracks hugely addictive, and sometimes vindictive, Melodic Rock that is unafraid to blend the heavy screeching distortion of Grunge Rock with the catchy hooks of Bubblegum Pop, whilst keeping true to their original roots in Punk Rock. Also featuring Sean Bon on guitar, Sam Hobbins on drums and Becky Baldwin on bass, watch out for their London Album Launch at  Nambucca on Thursday 28th March plus when they return to London at  Camden Rocks on Sunday 2nd June.

Atomic Bridge 26/1/19

Legendary Prog outfit Atomic Rooster played Chelsea's Under The Bridge venue last night with special guests Clearwater Creedence Revival. The  re-formed band featured two original members, Peter French on vocals and Steve 'Boltz' Bolton on guitar, with Shug Millage (bass), Bo Walsh (drums) and Adrian Gautrey (organ/keys). Playing with the full blessing of Vincent Crane’s widow, the band has been kicking up a storm at festivals and shows across the UK and receiving stunning reviews. Anyway, with more photos to come, check out our Video Of The Day.

Vega Forum Tonight 26/1/19

Self-produced by the group and mixed by Harry Hess (Harem Scarem), the twelve songs included on it have seen Vega take their songwriting and musicianship to the next level. Having recently played their own UK headlining tour to promote the album plus selected festivals over the Summer months, the band have kicked-off 2019 with a set of dates supporting Skid Row plus Backyard Babies, H.E.A.T. and Killit including London's O2 Forum in Kentish Town tonight. Rooster Under The Bridge Tonight 25/1/19

Legendary Prog outfit Atomic Rooster are playing Chelsea's Under The Bridge venue tonight. Formed from the ashes of the The Crazy World of Arthur Brown in 1969, their debut gig was at the Lyceum in London (supported by Deep Purple) and their first self-titled album was released in February 1970. It was after the release of 'Death Walks Behind You' that they had their first taste of UK chart success with 'Tomorrow Night' and 'Devil’s Answer'. The band split in 1975 and briefly reformed in the early 1980’s. Main band member Vincent Crane joined Dexys Midnight Runners in 1985 for the 'Don’t Stand Me Down' album before he sadly passed away in 1989. Special guests are Clearwater Creedence Revival who perform, surprise, surprise,  the greatest hits of Creedence Clearwater Revival. After bringing the house down at Under the Bridge on their last visit the band are back by popular demand.

Sari Schorr/Sharrie Williams Review 24/1/19

"Two more from 'NSN' followed, another great Schorr vocal/Wilson solo on the Heavy Rock of 'Valentina', with Sari afterwards thanking both the crowd plus taking the opportunity to remind them that the band are also supporting King King at London's Koko on Thursday 7th February! Although the stand-out of the set for mine was 'Freedom', a mid-paced Rocker, with Fridzema's dexterity embellishing some killer vocal harmonies. It was back to 'AFON' though for the encore, with Sari not only mentioning their merch stand and introducing the band, but also amusingly trying to remember where they were from! Lead Belly's 'Black Betty' - with its unique arrangement, saw the chemistry between Wilson's cajun guitar opening and solo plus Schorr's vocal delivery - ultimately resulting in a very powerful version of this classic, before finishing with the familiar clunky opening riff of 'Aunt Hazel' - based on urban slang for heroin - with both Sari and Ash letting us have it with both barrels on this rocker. Suffice to say that this force of nature just gets stronger and stronger since we first encountered it just before Christmas 2015. Never say never - just make sure you catch the band at London's Koko on Thursday 7th February or alternatively at Twickenham's Eel Pie Club exactly a month later!"

CDMC At Black Heart Tonight 23/1/19

Phil and Tommy Goodwin, aka Cellar Door Moon Crow (CDMC) are bringing their unique Urban Rock flavour to the masses this year. Hailing from Sheffield, CDMC release their debut album 'You Got This' on Friday 5th April and to coincide with this, CDMC are playing a special showcase gig in London at The Black Heart, Camden, tonight. Featuring heavy beats with sick guitar and distorted vocals fused with a swirling organ and ivory keys, they mash it up, using pre-1970's Led Zeppelin-esque analogue flavours with a big slap of 1980’s Hip Hop Dr Dre style production. The 14 song strong beast of a release unravels the journey and evolution that has defined the Goodwin brothers as pioneers of their very own identifiable flamboyant sound.

Somethings Gotta Give 23/1/19

Guitarist and vocalist Eric Gales is back with another new track 'Somethings Gotta Give' (today's Video Of The Day) that features three-time Grammy nominated and Emmy Award winning vocalist B. Slade. It was the first of 10 albums on a major label through a blistering career. He has released 15 studio albums in total ahead of ‘The Bookends’ and a host of other collaborations. He has battled drink and drug issues and spent time in jail in 2009 for possession of drugs and a weapon.

To coincide with its release we aim to broadcast an interview with Steve this Friday, but in the meantime check out the first single from the new album 'Under The Eye Of The Sun', which is today's Video Of The Day.

Born Healer 100 Up Tonight! 22/1/19

"As expected their forty minute setlist would draw completely on their new album as they opened with the titfer wearing Funkas' cool bassline on 'River' and immediately the Red Lion punters were, ahem, hooked. 'Trust Yourself' with Turner's 'Joplinesque' groovy, gravelly voice and tangible stage presence, was a great foot stomping romp with a great riff from Black. Taj Mahal's 'Leaving Trunk' grooved and rocked in true 60's/70's style whilst 'Brand New Day' emphasised the tightness of a band excelling in all the right places." Was it really over two years ago that Born Healer well and truly kicked off BluesRockFest in late September 2016 (pictured)? Tonight the band return to London's iconic 100 Club for Tuesday Blues sandwiched in between headliners Crow Black Chicken and Vincent Flatts Final Drive.

Ladies Sing The Blues 19/1/19

Described by many music pundits as a modern-day hybrid of Janis Joplin and Tina Turner - a red-hot Rock singer who radiates emotional intensity, who connects with and inspires her audiences - Sari Schorr (pictured) certainly left a lasting impression at London's 100 Club last night. On the penultimate night of London Blues Week, Sari co-headlined with fellow American Sharrie Williams - The Princess of Rockin' Gospel Blues - on a mouthwatering double bill. Anyway, with a review and more photos to come, check out today's Sharrie Video Of The Day.

Introducing...Tremor 19/1/19

Today's Track Of The Day is a collection of songs performed by Tremor at their very first gig, live at Potse, Berlin, in October last year. The four-piece are a very political, kick ass Hard Rock Hip Hop band based in Berlin, with their first EP due to be released next month, which coincides with their very first tour. Although the band is at the beginning of its way, they are four highly ambitious and experienced musicians, who are looking to kick both a loud and clear musical and political voice as hard as possible from the streets.

Whole Lotta Rosy 19/1/19

Rosy Vista, Germany’s first female Hard Rock band, who thrived between 1984 and 1989 before imploding and going their own separate ways, have reunited to record their impressive debut album ‘Unbelievable’, set for release on Steamhammer/SPV on Friday 8th February. Formed by guitarist Anca Graterol, Rosy Vista had released two singles and one professionally produced EP, plus performed spectacular concerts alongside legends like Uriah Heep, Joe Cocker, Manfred Mann’s Earth Band and Mötley Crüe, before they split up at the end of the 80’s with their career dream of releasing a proper album still unfulfilled. ‘Unbelievable’, the sound of four superlative musicians having a ball making their life-long dream come true, is more than true to the motto that "good things come to those who wait".

Williams For Schorr Tonight 18/1/19

"One of my favourites came next, the title track of the new album, ‘Never Say Never’, written by Ian McLagan (Small Faces/Faces) and originally featured on McLagan’s 2008 ‘Never Say Never’ album. This is a sublimely beautiful song with fountains of emotion pouring from each and every word. A sensational and breath-taking performance from Sari! Being a fan of McLagan’s work and having seen him perform several times (Sadly McLagan passed away in 2014 at the age of 69 due to complications after suffering a stroke), this song has etched a deeper resonance for me, and as a result when I hear Sari’s version it has me welling up every time!" That was part of our take on Sari Schorr when she played at The Borderline last September, and the New Yorker returns to London tonight at the iconic 100 Club as part of London Blues Week with Sharrie Williams – The Princess of Rockin’ Gospel Blues - with Sari closing the co-headline show!

Walter's Survivor Blues 18/1/19

Walter Trout will be releasing his new album ‘Survivor Blues’ next Friday 25th January via Provogue/Mascot Label Group. No ordinary artist. No ordinary covers album. From the day he conceived the project to the moment he counted off the first song in the studio, Walter Trout had a bolder plan for ‘Survivor Blues’. Trout made it his mission to harness the power and spirit of the originals, whilst stamping his inimitable musical personality onto each new take, he also has a stellar lineup of musicians to reinterpret the greatest sunken treasures in the Blues genre. But last September, as recording began at the Los Angeles studio of iconic Doors guitarist Robby Krieger, Trout and long-standing producer Eric Corne shared their vision with the only band who could measure up. The thunder and finesse of drummer Michael Leasure, the muscular groove of bassist Johnny Griparic and last, but not least, the spell-casting fingers of keyboards session God and regular Trout conspirator, Skip Edwards.

Anyone with a good taste in Rock music (with intelligent lyrics as well as charming brass sections) won’t be able to ignore 'Stay Rudel - Stay Rebel', bringing you the sound from Hamburg's red light district, duly giving Rock 'n' Roll its soul back. Recorded live, there’s no place for overflowing kitsch, subsynthesizers, strings, percussions or other stuff... Instead you get guitar, bass, drums, vocals, trumpet, trombone plus some organ here and there – from Germany's number one Ska Punk band!

Magic Dance New Eyes 17/1/19

Magic Dance was born in 2012 on Long Island, New York, as a solo project for singer/songwriter and self-taught musician/producer Jon Siejka. In late 2017, Jon and Magic Dance were signed by Frontiers, and for his first album 'New Eyes' on the new label, released last month (see today's Video Of The Day), Jon collaborated with Jack Simchak and Tim Mackey on guitars, Mike Peniston and Kevin Krug on bass and Kevin McAdams on drums. While the sound is now heavier and more guitar oriented, the sound leans way more towards classic AOR, with strong hints of the sounds of the mid 80’s (think Loverboy, Heart, Survivor, etc). An outstanding release very much in line with the 80’s revival sound which is bulldozing it’s way back onto the scene!

Melanie Greggain London Launch Tonight 16/1/19

Janus Stark Shuffling The Pack 16/1/19

Originally formed in 1996 by former English Dogs, The Prodigy, Destructors, Fields Of The Nephilim, Steve Ignorant (Crass) guitarist and general all-round Peterborough Punk legend Gizz Butt, last November saw the welcome return of his Melodic Punk band Janus Stark, and their new single ‘Shuffling The Pack' (today's Video Of The Day). Their first new material in twenty-one years (and their first ever video!), ‘Shuffling The Pack’ is a hook-heavy, power-Pop-Punk smack to the jaw. Last year frontman Gizz decided to reform Janus Stark and asked guitarist Richard Gombault (of 90's Pop Punk trio Midget) to join, along with long standing close friends Fozzy Dixon (drums) and Simon Martin (bass). ‘Shuffling The Pack’, the first results of this new line-up, sees Gizz effortlessly picking up from where the band left off in 2002 and finds its author as riled up and inspired as ever. Dave Grohl once described Janus Stark as “a great melodic kick up the arse”. Little has changed on that front. Prepare to have your arse kicked all over again as they play London's Camden Rocks Festival on Sunday 2nd June.

London Blues Week Kicks Off Tonight 14/1/19

"The set seems to fly by and while time caught up with some of the audience who grudgingly had to leave due to pre-booked taxis and last trains, those of us remaining enjoyed the remainder of the the set, and even at the end, we had no intention of letting Chantel leave without one final song. Chantel was a fitting headliner who brought what was an incredible day to a close and we’re still pinching ourselves that we managed to get her." Was it really over three years ago that Chantel McGregor headlined BluesRockFest? Well tonight Chantel has the honour of kicking off London Blues Week at the iconic 100 Club tonight with support from Jawbone

The End Of Chaos 14/1/19

'The End Of Chaos' is far, far from the end! Flotsam and Jetsam - the 2016 album - saw a band firing on all cylinders, writing/performing years younger than a band with three decades of power and glory notched on their bullet belts. 'The End Of Chaos', due to be released this Friday, is loaded with twelve crushing songs that clock in at nearly fifty minutes, so for traditional thrashers there is plenty bone to chew on. Like a prize-fighter that refuses to kneel down, Flotsam And Jetsam (Track Of The Day) tread onward with black eyes and bloody noses. It’s the youthful exuberance and a certain "we don’t give a flying fuck about age or time" mentality. And the kinetic energy that they exude on stage is quite contrary to their street persona.

Saint Apache Black Days 14/1/19

Saint Apache release their strong four-track EP 'Black Days' on Friday 22nd February featuring 'Amongst Vultures', 'The Shameful', 'Strive to Survive' and 'Tory Man' - today's ferally-energetic Video Of The Day. There’s energy, anger and conviction in these here tracks, as well as in-the-moment performance and skilled musicianship: Thom Meredith’s raw vocals riding over Adam Oarton’s driving drums, Leo Burdett’s soaring lead guitar and Ross Towner’s powerful bass. Last  June the band headlined and tore up the Platform 1 stage at the Isle of Wight Festival, then in November, took that high-octane vibrancy to Manchester, opening for Pitchshifter’s 20th Anniversary gig, and continue to go from strength to strength.

New Frankie Miller Album Out Soon 13/1/19

The exciting prospect of Frankie Miller's music being reinvigorated by some of the country's finest musicians, totally dedicated to the works of Frankie, is on the horizon, thanks to Full House. Led by Ray Minhinnett on guitar, a founding member of the original Full House with Frankie, touring extensively with the great man and playing on all of his classic tracks, Ray is joined by Steve Simpson on guitar, formerly of The Miller Band, Terry 'Tex' Comer provides the essentially cool grooves on bass guitar and Andy Golden, formerly of The Pirates and Eric Bell's Thin Lizzy adds the perfect touch to a remarkable rhythm section. If you're now thinking what about the vocals; then rest assured Gregor MacGregor, a fellow Glaswegian, has got this covered in spades. Discovered by an old mate of Ray's who found him singing in a bar in Glasgow and had to send Ray a video. All agreed this is as close a vocal delivery as you are going to get to Frankie's!

Torque Of The Town Again 13/1/19

This coming Friday, Mascot Records will be reissuing Torque’s 1996 stand-alone self-titled album which features former Machine Head/Vio-lence guitarist Phil Demmel. The album includes four bonus tracks and as well as CD, will be released on vinyl and digitally for the first time. It was 1994 when one of the San Francisco Bay Area thrash scenes leading lights Vio-lence called it a day following the departure of vocalist Sean Killian who retired and Rob Flynn who went on to form Machine Head. From that band, the remaining members formed the riff heavy, groove infused thrashers Torque (Track Of The Day). Fronting the band, guitarist Phil Demmel also took on lead vocals for the first time and along with guitarist Ray Vegas, bassist Deen Dell and with drummer Mark Hernandez joining they created a formidably crushing four-way vocal assault with a tank like heaviness that was to burn brightly, but briefly.

Mama Said Rock Is Dead 13/1/19

John Diva & the Rockets of Love, an exuberant Rock ‘N’ Roll (with a capital ‘N’) quintet who bring a breath of fresh air to eighties style classic Rock music, release their consummate debut album, ‘Mama Said Rock Is Dead’, on Friday 8th February on Steamhammer/SPV. Today's Video Of The Day ‘Lolita’, the soaring first single from the album, released last November, is a glorious taster of the twelve classy compositions contained on this superlative collection. Packed with anthemic choruses, smooth riffs and supersonic guitar solos, ‘Mama Said Rock Is Dead’ is a magnificent melodic Metal triumph which more than belies the album’s tongue-in-cheek title. The rightful heirs of an era in which Van Halen, Aerosmith, Bon Jovi, Whitesnake, Scorpions, Guns N`Roses and Mötley Crüe rocked the world and rampaged the planet; John Diva is charged US entertainment at its very best.

Introducing ..... Killing Giants 12/1/19

Killing Giants originate from the sleepy seaside town of Margate in Kent - but with their anthemic Rock, heartfelt lyrics, big hooks and soaring riffs - their sound is anything but sleepy. A mixture of all that is good in the Rock world right now ....... think of The Foo Fighters, Biffy Clyro and Royal Blood all in a big melting pot ....... and your half way there to Killing Giants. Currently unsigned, the band are aiming to release their new EP 'State Of You' on Thursday 25th April with a release show date still to be announced. The EP will be available across all major digital platforms and limited CD's will also be available, which includes 'Take This Heart' (today's Track Of The Day) which was released a few months ago and is available on their Bandcamp store for download.

Burning Rain Face The Music 12/1/19

Burning Rain is the Hard Rock band founded  in 1998 by guitarist extraordinaire Doug Aldrich (Revolution Saints, The Dead Daisies, ex-Whitesnake, Dio) and vocalist Keith St. John (Montrose, Kingdom Come). They will release their fourth studio album, ‘Face the Music’ on Friday 22nd March via Frontiers Music srl and have made a first single from the record available to coincide with its announcement, which is today's Video Of The Day. ‘Face The Music’ is a Blues driven Hard Rock record and is a true tour-de-force. With a renewed line-up featuring the amazing Blas Elias (Slaughter) on drums and bassist Brad Lang (Y&T), the album evokes the classic 70’s Hard Rock scene, but also stays true to the band's sound. One thing is for certain, Burning Rain has made the long wait for new music well worth it.

Bad Pennies Win Best Reviewed CD 11/1/19

"Seager's 'Losing Streak', would you believe about drink and women, closes out the album, with it's cajun feel, its message being that you’re just looking for a peaceful life, but you find yourself up the creek without a paddle! Well, come on, this is the Blues! All in all, a delightful eclectic mix of Blues with not only great lyrics, but more importantly, an album that has the vibe of a live band with some killer tracks that will go down a storm at any gig - particularly their drinking songs! You know what they say - go on - in for a penny, in for a pound!" Well the boys from the Medway Delta have done it. Our final category sees Bad Pennies (Video Of The Day) win our 2018 WRC Best Reviewed CD award for 'Songs From The Medway Delta'. Congratulations to all of our eleven winners and we look forward to catching up with you in 2019 to present your awards!

Suzi Quatro New Album/Tour 11/1/19

Suzi Quatro more than lives up to her name as the “Queen Of Rock N' Roll”. The American musician has been in the music business for more than 50 years, delivering her greatest hits such as ‘Can The Can’, ‘48 Crash’, ‘If You Can't Give Me Love’, 'She's In Love With You' and ‘Devil Gate Drive’ with unbridled energy. Friday 29th March will see the arrival of her new studio album 'No Control' on SPV/Steamhammer, with the lead single ‘No Soul/No Control’ scheduled for release on Friday 15th February. Suzi has recorded eleven new songs (plus two bonus tracks) on her new album, of which she plans to debut a couple of tracks amongst her greatest hits during her major UK/Australian/European tour this year including London's Wembley SSE Arena on Thursday 11th April.

Alive & Dangerous Win Best Tribute 10/1/19

"The crowd lapped it up, as the mastermind behind the drums, Brian Downey; counted in the songs keeping the rhythms tight, with Wilson on bass.  With his big curly hair and engaging smile Matt Wilson certainly looks the part, but he very much has his own powerful stage persona and completely owns the stage. The energy of the band went from strength to strength, 'Still In Love With You' soared with Grace and Edgar's guitar playing feeding off each other in dual guitar harmonies with high octane solos sweeping every head banger into the sleaze driven funky mood of 'Johnny The Fox'. The band didn't miss a hit, including all those well-known Lizzy songs that even a non-rocker would know, 'The Boys Are Back In Town', 'The Rocker' and 'Don't Believe A Word'. It was a stunning set and Alive and Dangerous do an exceptional job of keeping Lizzy’s music alive." That was our take on Alive & Dangerous at Nell's Jazz & Blues in London in February last year and Brian Downey's Thin Lizzy legacy (today's Video Of The Day) have deservedly won our 2018 WRC 'Best Tribute' award.

The Awakening Chasm 10/1/19

US-based Gothic Rock band The Awakening released their 9th album 'Chasm' in November last year after an extended break since the release of 'Anthology XV' in 2013. As always the album features the voice, songwriting, musicianship, and production of Ashton Nyte, the man behind The Awakening since its debut album, 'Risen' in 1997. Joined by longtime drummer Sevven, 'Chasm' has been something of a labour of love for Ashton, as nine years and various solo albums and collaborations have passed since the release of The Awakening’s last full-length album, 'Tales Of Absolution + Obsoletion' in 2009. 'Chasm' features ten new songs, from atmospheric 12-string acoustic guitar ballads like 'Gave Up The Ghost' and 'Shadows In The Dark' to the pulsating dark Rock of 'Back To Wonderland' (today's Track Of The Day).

Rock On The Ridge Win Best Radio Show 9/1/19

Indeed today's Video Of The Day is from local legends White Cowbell Oklahoma doing it again with their searing new release 'Into the Sun', the video including footage from France last Summer! 'Into the Sun' is taken from the album 'Seven Seas of Sleaze', and the video is directed by Alex Parker with live footage by Tom Roelofs.

Laurence Joins Deep Purple Mk 2 Tour 9/1/19

British Blues Rock guitarist and singer-songwriter Laurence Jones will be special guest on the second UK Tour of Glenn Hughes Performs Classic Deep Purple Live over eight dates in May. Expect a dynamic, turn-back-the-clocks, two-hour live extravaganza homage to Glenn's tenure in MK 3 and MK 4 incarnations of Deep Purple - one of music history’s most seminal and influential Rock and Roll groups. Hailed as “one to watch” by all corners of the music industry, including press, concert and festival booking agents, Blues fans and various musicians, over the past five years, Laurence has really come into his own, and with his latest album 'The Truth', he has now developing his own creative skin by writing and performing songs that are distinctive to his unique sound and identity.

Von Hertzen Brothers Win Best Prog Award 8/1/19

"Back at the Prog stage are Finnish Prog heroes The Von Hertzen Brothers. Playing a mix of classic Rock combined with Progressive elements, Folk, Punk and contemporary Rock, the band has a sound for everyone. Guitarist Kie, playing his battered white strat, gets some killer sounds out of his Vox amp with a set that has heavy guitar but also a big keyboard sound that has Rush-like qualities. Mikko Von Hertzen has a happy look on his face the whole time, although, if you are young, good looking and front a popular band, why wouldn’t you be. The heat of the weekend feels at it’s hottest here as Kie quips to the assembled photographers "We look way better when we are soaked". And not a drop of rain all day." That was part of our review of Ramblin' Man Fair at the beginning of July in Mote Park, Maidstone, and the Von Hertzen Brothers have duly been voted 'Best  Prog' performance in our 2018 WRC Awards

O2 Academy Brixton Jawbreaker 8/1/19

Jawbreaker, the seminal American Punk Rock band, have announced details of their first UK show in 25 years, taking place at the O2 Academy Brixton, London, on Saturday 27th April. Widely credited with being a major influence not just on modern Punk Rock but also the burgeoning Emo movement of the time, this is the band’s first concert outside of North America since re-uniting to triumphantly headline the 2017 version of Riot Fest in Chicago. The band are made up of Blake Schwarzenbach (lead vocals, guitar), Chris Bauermeister (bass, backing vocals) and Adam Pfahler (drums), and shot to fame with albums including '24 Hour Revenge Therapy' in 1994, which was recorded with the legendary producer and engineer Steve Albini, and the seminal 1995 album 'Dear You'.

An Hour Of Great Music 8/1/19

Today's Blues On The Radio Track Of The Day includes four IBBA albums of the months from Ina Forsman, Ariel Posen, Travellin' Blue Kings and Larkin Poe plus new music from Jamie Thyer & The Worried Men, Dee Miller Band, Chris O'Leary, Elles Bailey (pictured), Vin Mott, Rebecca Downes & Steve Birkett, Spikedrivers, and (ahead of his gig tonight at The Tuesday Night Music Club, The Comrades Club, Coulsdon CR5 2N) Del Bromham!

Myles Kennedy Wins Best Unplugged 7/1/19

"Back to the Outlaw stage for a thrilling acoustic set from Myles Kennedy, surely the coup of the festival for the organisers. The Alter Bridge/Slash frontman is achieving even more success, if that’s possible , with his latest solo album 'Year of the Tiger', and treated us to a selection of tracks including the title track, a cover of Alter Bridge’s ‘Cry Of Achilles’ and an amazing acoustic cover of Iron Maiden’s ‘The Trooper’. He’s an incredible vocal talent but an even more amazing guitar talent. A fact that is all too often overlooked. Kennedy is just a natural talent and a natural performer." That was our take on Myles Kennedy (Video Of The Day) at Ramblin' Man Fair on a beautiful Summer's Day in the garden of England at the end of June, and the Alter Bridge frontman has deservedly been voted 'Best Unplugged' performance in our 2018 WRC Awards.

Kevin Black 7/1/19

The WRC were very sad to learn that Kevin Black, host of the Black on Blues Podcast, lost his battle with cancer and passed away peacefully in hospital on the morning of New Year's Eve. The Black On Blues website states that Kevin did not suffer and he was with his family until the end. Kevin challenged us three years ago saying "Can't believe that after 5 years broadcasting and now on 2 USA stations and 2 in the UK, the WRC doesnt know about the Black On Blues podcast". Suffice to say the show has regularly been our Monday Track Of The Day ever since! Our sincere condolences go to Kevin's family: Christine, Dominique, Jessica and Bruno, not forgetting Black On Blues producer Jason Monty.

Nine Shrines Retribution Therapy 7/1/19

Nine Shrines reveal their first brand new song 'Ringworm' (today's Track Of The Day) taken from their upcoming debut studio album 'Retribution Therapy', which will be released globally via Mascot Records/Mascot Label Group in 2019. Nine Shrines is made up of former Attack Attack! drummer Andrew Wetzel, Life On Repeat guitarist Andrew Baylis, Life On Repeat bassist Devon Voisine, guitarist Evan McKeever (Downplay) and frontman Chris Parketny (Stranger to Wolves). ‘Retribution Therapy’ was mixed and produced by Dan Korneff (My Chemical Romance, Papa Roach, Breaking Benjamin) and ‘Ringworm’ is their first new song since they released the ‘Misery’ EP back in April 2017.

Collateral Win 'One's To Watch' Award 6/1/19

"The ‘4 Shots’ EP kicks off with the solid ‘Going With The Wind’ cool guitar riffs, mixed nicely under the vocal lines and strong melody. Second up, the AOR tinged ‘Angels Crying’, with hints of Nashville’s new Country-Rock acts which could see the cigarette lighter being raised on this one. In at number three ‘Just Waiting For You’ - one that I would cast as the best song of the four. Very well arranged and the hooks vocal and musically in all the right places! Last of the four shots ‘Midnight Queen’ - quiet easily the commercial radio single with its outright catchy chorus lines." That was our recent review of Collateral's '4 Shots' EP, and the guys have subsequently walked away with our 2018 WRC 'One's To Watch' award. Do not miss them when they play Camden's The Black Heart in London on Thursday 7th February!

Going On Until The Day They Die 6/1/19

Wolf Hoffmann, Mark Tornillo, Uwe Lulis and Christopher Williams, AKA Accept, are ready to rock! Despite the departure of Peter Baltes, the band still promise  to bring you Metal forever! 'Symphonic Terror - Live At Wacken 2017' was released at the end of November via Nuclear Blast and they will bringing their show to Europe this year!

Get Right With Your Maker 6/1/19

Melbourne rockers Palace Of The King had a huge year with the release of their album 'Get Right With Your Maker' last April, which they have supported by almost non stop touring including a huge eight country European tour before heading back to Australia for sold out shows with Baby Animals and regional shows with Rose Tattoo. The band are also guests on The Screaming Jets 'Gotcha Covered Australian Tour' this month. To celebrate the tour, the band have also released an electric version of the albums 'hidden track' 'Get Right With Your Maker'. Formed in late 2012, the band, have become known for their Bluesy, Soul-infused, riff-heavy, Psychedelic Rock 'n' Roll and have also made a fresh take on the 'I Am The Storm' video, re-recorded and re-edited which is today's stormin' Track Of The Day.

The Dead Daisies Win Best International Award 5/1/19

"Finally, Aldridge returned to the stage, opening with his talk box ('Livin' On A Prayer') vocals on The Who's 'Join Together' - the perfect singalong to round off an amazing evening. "Sing it" demanded Corabi one last time - and we did. "So much better than last night" John added although he stopped short of saying "good game, good game". Anyway, I'm sure dear old Bruce would have loved it. The bands picks were thrown into the crowd for the final time  as they finished with a sensational, and I mean sensational cover of the Sensational Alex Harvey Band's 'Midnight Moses'. More like Midnight moshers by the time they had finished!" That was part of our review of The Dead Daisies gig at London's O2 Academy Islington in November, and as result of that performance they have won our 2018 WRC 'Best International' band award.

Love Like Suicide 5/1/19

"Following on, and now playing to a full house are Myke Gray. For those unfamiliar, the namesake guitarist was an integral part of nineties rockers Skin. His current incarnation is a vehicle for the Joe Satriani lookalike to play like a Joe Satriani soundalike. For this festival however, the instrumentalist has had the inspired idea of recruiting Kim Jennett, from Voodoo Blood, for vocals. What a powerful little powerhouse she is. With only a week or so to learn a back catalogue of Skin tracks, she - and the band - really kicked it in. Classics like 'Take Me Down To The River', 'Look But Don't Touch' and 'Shine Your Light' were belted out with the force of a West Wales weather forecast. Great band, great set, easily the find of the day." Subsequent to this review of Myke Gray at the 2018 WRC Award winning Hard Rock Hell XII, today's Track Of The Day is Kim Jennett's new track 'Love Like Suicide', released earlier this week and written and produced by Myke.

Ana Popovic Adds London Date To May Tour 5/1/19

Following the announcement of her upcoming May 2019 UK Tour, guitarist and singer songwriter Ana Popovic has added another date at the London Borderline on Saturday 11th May to her nationwide tour. Ana’s latest album, 'Like It On Top', was released last September and focuses on empowered, successful, inspiring female role models. Recorded in Nashville and produced by four-time Grammy winner Keb’ Mo’, the Blues influenced album features guest appearances from Kenny Wayne Shepherd, Robben Ford and Keb’ Mo’. A trending theme in today’s world is women overcoming obstacles and breaking through the glass ceilings to reach the top. 'Like It On Top' celebrates those that take initiative, develop, inspire and motivate. But it also credits the men who are motivated and enlightened enough to support women in their quest to be their best versions of themselves.

Bernie Marsden Wins Best Blues Rock Award 4/1/19

"Bernie Marsden (picture courtesy of Eric Duvet) is playing at Skeggy's Great British Rock & Blues Festival tonight, and on Thursday we were blessed to be in the presence of the great man at the iconic 100 Club during London Blues Week. With ex-Whitesnake mucker Neil Murray on bass, top drummer Mickey Barker plus a guest appearance by Danny Bryant  - it was a memorable journey covering all of Marsden's legendary music from Whitesnake's 'Here I Go Again' to 'Shine's 'Latino' to Bobby Bland's 'Ain't No Love in the Heart of the City'." That was our take on Bernie Marsden's gig just under a year ago and Bernie (Video Of The Day) has duly won our 'Best Blues Rock' performance in our 2018 WRC Awards.

Benson's New Mascot 4/1/19

Mascot Label Group/Provogue recently announced the signing of Soul and Jazz guitar legend George Benson, with a new album scheduled for a Spring 2019 release. The 10 time Grammy Award winner and NEA Jazz Master is one of the greatest guitarists in Jazz history and has released 35 studio albums, including the multi-platinum Billboard #1 ‘Breezin'. He has also had a string of hits to his name including ‘Give Me The Night’, ‘Never Give Up On A Good Thing’, ‘The Greatest Love Of All’, ‘On Broadway’, ‘Love X Love’, ‘Nothing’s Gonna Change My Love For You’, ‘This Masquerade’ and many more. Inspired by Charlie Christian and Wes Montgomery at a young age, he got his first break in the Brother Jack McDuff Quartet in 1964 and went on to be a global star. Along the way he has recorded with Frank Sinatra, Aretha Franklin, Stevie Wonder, Miles Davis, The Count Basie Orchestra, Chaka Khan, Bobby Womack, Tony Bennett, Mary J Blige, Vanessa Williams, Rod Stewart and Gorillaz amongst others. He has also been honoured with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

Iron Maiden Win Best Rock Award 3/1/19

"We were promised their biggest ever production plus their most eclectic set list - and boy did Iron Maiden deliver on the penultimate night of their sold out 'Legacy Of The Beast' UK Tour at London's O2 Arena last night. Launching the show with crowd favourite, 'Aces High', with a Spitfire propelling above the stage, this was not the only show-stopping effect in this theatrical performance with the band then proceeding to race through a spectacular two hours of music, pyrotechnics, special effects and ever-evolving stage sets, including new incarnations of mascot Eddie, and showcasing many of the most beloved songs in their revered career alongside rarely-played classics from their extensive back catalogue." That was our take on Iron Maiden's gig back in August, and Bruce and his troopers have consequently carried off our 'Best Rock Performance' award in our 2018 WRC Awards

Alice In Chains To Play Wembley 3/1/19

'Rainier Fog', Alice In Chains first album in five years, not only became the band’s first Top 10 UK album, No. 1 on Billboard’s Rock, Alternative and Hard Music Charts and No. 1 on the iTunes Rock Album Chart, but also earned them a much-deserved Grammy nomination for ‘Best Rock Album’. It’s the band’s 9th Grammy nod and the band recently announced a special 'Rainier Fog' movie project titled ‘Black Antenna’, produced and directed by filmmaker Adam Mason. Inspired by the sound of 'Rainier Fog', Mason has created a stunning 90-minute sci-fi film which will be rolled out in ten episodic segments/videos this year, with each episode set to a different song from the album. The band also celebrated the album’s release with a sold-out international tour that saw them playing to packed houses in over 20 countries around the world and the  band return to Europe in May for a run of major headline dates and festivals including London's Wembley Arena on Saturday 25th.

Toby Hitchcock Reckoning 3/1/19

Powerhouse US vocalist Toby Hitchcock came to the attention of Melodic Rock fans on the debut album by Pride of Lions. Discovered by iconic songwriter Jim Peterik (‘Eye Of The Tiger' etc.) his voice has been compared to Bobby Kimball (Toto), Jimi Jamison (Survivor) and Lou Gramm (Foreigner), yet maintains a unique identity that has made him a star in the Melodic Rock scene. With Pride of Lions currently on hiatus, Hitchcock has taken the opportunity to make a second solo album ’Reckoning’, to be released on Friday 25th January, following the excellent reactions to his debut, ‘Mercury’s Down’. Hooking up with Swedish producer Daniel Flores (Murder of My Sweet, Mind’s Eye, Find Me), the result is another marriage made in the AOR stratosphere that again shows off Hitchcock’s vocal talent to maximum effect as testified by today's Track Of The Day 'Promise Me'.

Hard Rock Hell XII Wins Best Festival 2/1/19

"So for the last time, we head back to our accommodation with the bands of the day still ringing in our head. Mainly the Daisies 'Last Time I Saw The Sun' which seemed to sum up the weather. And the Daisies 'Long Way To Go' when i thought about the journey home again. But it has been worth it. It has been another triumph for the HRH team. So goodbye Pwllhelli, and thanks for all the great memories over the last six years. Now lets see what Great Yarmouth has to offer. With Dee Snider, Michael Monroe, Buckcherry, Gun and Toseland already named, amongst others, it looks like it will be a blast." That was part of our take on this year's Hard Rock Hell XII, and suffice to say that in our 2018 WRC Awards, HRH has walked away with our 'Best Festival' award. Also check out our Myke Gray Video Of The Day.

Tuesday Night Music Club Special 2/1/19

Today's Track Of The Day is a new Blues On The Radio Podcast featuring an hour of fabulous music from artists who are playing at The Tuesday Night Music Club, The Comrades Club, Coulsdon CR5 2N this year, including Giles Robson, Hitman Blues Band, Del Bromham, Paul Lamb, Steve Bailey and Mississippi MacDonald and more.

Evergrey The Atlantic 2/1/19

In a music scene that has threatened to become increasingly trivial and contourless for a number of years, Evergrey are the (exceedingly ambitioned) silver lining on the horizon. Since 1993, the Swedish group surrounding frontman/songwriter Tom S. Englund has been synonymous with technically and compositionally outstanding standards, combined with lyrics and messages which go way beyond pure Rock ’n’ Roll prose. Their latest album 'The Atlantic', due to be released on Friday 25th January, sees the five band members: Englund, Henrik Danhage (guitar), Johan Niemann (bass), Jonas Ekdahl (drums) and Rikard Zander (keyboards), manifest their excellent reputation as one of the most unusual and innovative Progressive Metal acts worldwide, presenting the third part of their 'Hymns For The Broken' trilogy about the adventure of life, part one having been launched in 2014. In line with the programmatic album title and its expressive cover artwork (designed by Greek artist Giannis Nakos, renowned for his work for Oceans Of Slumber and Hades Rising, among others), Evergrey take their fans on a tempestuous expedition across the rough (Prog Metal) seas.

Doomsday Outlaw Win Best Support 1/1/19

"A five piece Blues-tinged Rock band from Derbyshire, featuring Phil Poole (lead vocals), Stephen Broughton (guitar), Gavin Mills (guitar), Indy (bass and backing vocals) and John Ironfoot Willis (drums). They are a tight, well-honed band that deliver monumental chunky riffs and groove-laden tunes, with a nod towards Zeppelin, Trapeze and Black Stone Cherry. The band's performance was flawless, engaging and connecting with the audience at every opportunity. I believe the full set list included the songs 'Over And Over', 'Tale Of A Broken Man', 'Bring It On Home', 'Hard Times', 'All That I Have' and 'Bring Your Pain'. I am fairly certain these guys are destined for great things." That was part of our review from the Graham Bonnet Band gig at The Underworld in Camden in August, and Doomsday Outlaw (Video Of The Day) are the first winners in our 2018 WRC Awards - voted 'Best Support' band by our members!

Road I Call Home 1/1/19

Our very first Track Of The Day of the New Year is the smoky-voiced Elles Bailey and the darkly magical video for her single ‘Medicine Man’, the first track released from her second album ‘Road I Call Home’ which will be released on Friday 8th March next year. ‘Medicine Man’ dropped in November, charting at Number 1 in the iTunes Blues Charts, as well as being added to the Nu Blue playlist on Spotify! The single also peaked at Number 7 in the Amazon Blues Charts and Number 2 on their Hot New Releases, as well as getting Radio 2 support from Cerys Matthews! Shot in glorious widescreen, with echoes of Twin Peaks, the  tricksy, colourful video (directed by Jamie Luke Milligan) brings Elles’ song to life with images of a wicked ringmaster, gangster gambler, a mystic and everybody’s favourite: a clown! Inevitably, Bailey will be back on the road she calls home in 2019 including The Lexington in London on Tuesday 12th March - a chance to experience her unique voice and amazing new material, in Elles’ natural habitat!
