Did I Just Make You Smile? 30/4/20

Today's Video Of The Day is Haig's latest single ‘Did I Just Make You Smile?’, dedicated to the NHS & Emergency Services of the UK, whilst we're in the crisis of the Covid-19 virus. In the video you'll see people in isolation of their homes, NHS staff and parts of the Emergency service team, and lastly a few clips to remind us of what we have to look forward to when all this is distant memory! Billy Bibby’s experience with Catfish & The Bottlemen alongside Carl Rutherford, as well as Joe Mooney's experience in the music scene, have given the band an instantaneous worldly feel, delivering pure melodious, yet intricate Rock, that has radio written all over it. Looking forward to their debut EP 'Freeze The World', it's British Rock at its absolute best, meshing Classic Rock with a progressively Indie vibe.

Zach's Trial By Combat 30/4/20

On today's Track Of The Day, Trial By Combat joins The Zach Moonshine Show to talk about their new independent full length album 'Consumed by the Darkness' that is due to be released next month, plus the state of music amid the Coronaviris! Zach will also be playing brand new tracks by the Bay Area, California band - their style being described as Death-Thrash plus Melodic Death Metal that draws from many Metal influences such as Exodus, Carcass, Amon Amarth and Black Dahlia Murder. This episode also features brand new music from Lady Beast, Witchkiss, Ogre, Cryptic Shift, Dark Forest, Luna13, Grieve, Hegemony, Smoulder, Noroth, Varicella, Vader, Mammon's Throne, Danzig, and classics by request from Gravehuffer, Necrotion, Aborym, Bolt Thrower, Asphyx, Celtic Frost, Year of the Cobra, Domkraft and battle of the bands winners District 13!

Thumbs Up For Stonedead 29/4/20

Last Friday's message from the Stonedead Festival Production Crew (pictured) was, that at this moment, they are well and truly on until the Government tells them otherwise. A festival experience not to be missed, it takes place on Saturday 29th August at Newark Showground featuring headliners Black Star Riders, with special guests Terrorvision and Gun, plus Tyketto, Kris Barras Band, Blaze Bayley, Tygers of Pan Tang, Myke Gray featuring Kim Jennett and opening poll winner Dead Man's Whiskey. Consequently Stonedead HQ state it will 100% go ahead if they can, or reschedule until 2021 if they can't. Rest assured that you will be told the second that they know.

Rothery's La Silla 29/4/20

"The band returned to perform encore 'Separated Out' from 2001's 'Anoraknophobia', which was additionally notable not only for the sextet upping their enjoyment by having a little 'Kashmir' (yes, that 'Kashmir') breakout moment, but also saw the smiling Rothery throwing a few moves around the stage, thanks in no small part to the audience participation and Mosley's brilliant drumming. After ignoring Hogarth's request for everybody to "just go home", Rothery was at last given his introduction by Hogarth to possibly the loudest recognition of the night." That was part of our take last November on Marillion at London's Royal Albert Hall, and today's Video Of The Day features the first part of guitarist Steve Rothery's 'La Silla', from his forthcoming crowdfunded album 'Revontulet', which will be released on Monday 28th September.

Rock On The Ridge Thunder 29/4/20

Vega Album Review 28/4/20

"A sequenced guitar build up leads into ‘This One’s For You’, then on to, for mine, the other stand out song that comes in the form of ‘Battles Ain’t No War’. In a more down tempo mode, it shows the excellent depth in the band’s song writing and has the feel of a film score about it!"

Today read another one of our self-isolating album reviews, as Geoff C. this time gives you his take here on Vega's new CD 'Grit Your Teeth', which is due to be released on Friday 12th June, plus check out our Track Of The Day of their latest single '(I Don’t Need) Perfection'. Remember, if you are currently kicking your heels and you fancy doing a self-isolation CD review, then don't be shy, just e-mail us at wrinklyrockers11@aol.com

Easy As HRH ABC 28/4/20

This year HRH AOR, Blues & Crows will combine forces in a three day, three arena, 70 band monster edition including D-A-D (today's Video Of The Day), aptly named HRH ABC, which will take place over the weekend of the 12th - 15th November at Camp HRH, Great Yarmouth. Indeed, the organisers have moved Heaven and Earth to get more accommodation, more production and more bands together to make this possible at a time of the year where we can hopefully all feel more comfortable in going out and having some fun after this awful crisis has passed.

Elles & Matt Zoom Club Tonite 28/4/20

However, the good news is that tonight The Tuesday Night Music Club is hosting a live Zoom Room here at 7pm with Elles Bailey and Matt Long. So get your ticket quick for this exclusive event!

Mally's Call 27/4/20

Unfortunately Rock Comedian/Compere/DJ Pete K Mally's UK April/May 'Self-Help & Sporadic Hairs' tour is postponed due to Covid-19, however, the good news is that, instead you can read Pete's new comedy novel, 'The Call', based on the Rock music circuit in the UK. Meet Dominic Young, front-man and bassist for the Classic Rock band Raven Black Whiskey Stone. Dom is trying to take his band places and The Call of the Wild Festival 2020 could be the break that they need. The resurgence of Classic Rock music is well and truly here in the UK and this comedy entwines the world of bands, promoters, venues and the real world of Rock and Roll. Go on, give it a go!

The Sick And The Depraved 26/4/20

Visceral five-piece Death Metal band Vesicarum release their savage debut EP, 'Reign Of Terror', on Friday 22nd May, of which lead single 'The Sick And The Depraved' is today's Track Of The Day. Bursting at the seams with brutal energy, the Kent band feature frantic, technical riffing; topped off with frontman Glynn Neve’s signature vocal style. The band was originally created in 2016 as a solo project by Glynn, growing in early 2018 to include guitarists Martin Shipton and James Thompson, bassist Orla Blue Reed and drummer Donal McGee.The name, ‘Vesicarum’ - meaning ‘to fester’, is an ode to the sinister nature of the band’s music and central lyrical theme of hatred, featuring darker subjects including serial killers and The Ankou (The Graveyard Watcher).

Mendelson's Lay It All On Me 26/4/20

Today's Video Of The Day is Leslie Mendelson's 'Lay It All On Me' - the fourth and final single, as well as, the opening track from her latest album, 'If You Can’t Say Anything Nice...', released earlier this month via Royal Potato Family. The 10-song collection is stacked with songs that recall 70's AM gold artists like Carly Simon, Carole King and Fleetwood Mac. And although sonically reminiscent of a simpler, more direct time in music, lyrically the album is completely of its time addressing depression, the gun rights debate, pharmaceutical addiction and over exposure to media in all its various modern forms. Before the onset of the Covd-19 pandemic, Mendelson was set to open three shows for The Who this Spring, a band with whom she has an ongoing relationship, having previously opened for them twice last year at Madison Square Garden, as well as, supporting Roger Daltrey solo.

Sounds Of The Baskervilles 25/4/20

While uncertainty distills throughout the live-music industry and beyond, British Rock outfit The Baskervilles are lacing up to strike with some much needed musical empowerment with their Spring release 'Got Your Back', which is today's Track Of The Day. The Ipswich based Hard Rockers deliver a stinging synopsis of love, life and hypocrisy, set to a blend of raw energy and rolling thunder, taking influence from a melting pot of the likes of Yonaka, Bring Me The Horizon and Arctic Monkeys.

Ryders Creed Lost Souls 25/4/20

'Cut Me Down', today's Video Of The Day from Ryders Creed, follows hot on the heels of first single and true Rock-epic 'Lost Soul', both taken from their up and coming album, 'Lost Souls', due out on Friday 8th May via Off Yer Rocka Recordings. The new single is another huge track which is sure to go down well amongst the loyal “Creedlings” – as their fanbase is affectionately known – as well as reaching out not only into the NWOCR scene, but also the wider Rock community. Since bursting onto the scene in 2017, the 4-piece have continued to build their impressive nationwide fanbase performing at flagship festivals around the UK, of which this year will hopefully include Call of the Wild at Lincolnshire Showground on Sunday 20th September plus Great Yarmouth's Hard Rock Hell on Friday/Saturday 6th/7th November.

British Rock singer Chez Kane (Video Of The Day) has signed to Frontiers for her debut solo album, recorded in collaboration with Danny Rexon, frontman of Crazy Lixx. Part of a multi-album deal, the talented young vocalist also fronts the band Kane’d alongside her two sisters. Chez was brought to the attention of Frontiers following discussions with existing label signing Rexon about him scouting and producing exciting new talent. They've stuck to what they do best, which is writing catchy, feel good Rock music.

Graces Collide CD Review 22/4/20

"Opening up proceedings ‘This Hell’ drops like a plane of stormtroopers heading into battle, followed by ‘Another Sun’ featuring guest vocalist Nikki Smash from The Rocket Dolls, swaying from side to side as if you’re in a dingy on rough seas. Keeping on the tracks, but only just, ‘Ride’ motors energetically, and is said to be the prelude sample of what is to come from their follow up album later this year."

Today read another one of our self-isolating album reviews, as Geoff C. this time gives you his take here on Graces Collide's new studio CD 'Our Tomorrow', which was released earlier this month, plus check out our Video Of The Day. The Wild Get Reckless 22/4/20

Organisers of Call of the Wild Festival have responded quickly to the outbreak of Coronavirus and the fight against it, not only by rescheduling Lincolnshire's biggest and best Rock festival to Friday 18th through to Sunday 20th September, but they have now also added Reckless Love to headline the Kilmister Stage on Saturday night. Voted Kerrang! Best Newcomer in 2012, the Finnish Rock band roared to mainstream success with the release of their second album, 'Animal Attraction', and this will be their only UK show in 2020. What’s more, the organisers have released 500 free weekend tickets to NHS staff – of which, a few are still up for grabs – as a thank you for their huge effort to save lives during this pandemic.

Broken Witt Rebels Gig Review 21/4/20

"Only the very first EP wasn’t represented in the setlist at this gig and it was interesting to note how many fans were close to word perfect on the lyrics, even though the EPs never included the words when released. Although many of those present had their live favourites, notably ‘Low’, ‘Turn Me On’ and ‘Georgia Pine’, the eight songs from the as yet unreleased new album were equally well received."

Today, Gary Smith literally takes us back in time again here, with his review of Broken Witt Rebels London Boston Music Room gig from Friday 13th December last year, plus check out our Video Of The Day.

Japan Van Damme's Normal Style 21/4/20

Japan Van Damme’s debut EP 'Normal Style' is creating quite a buzz in the Minneapolis market. Drawing from band influences that range from Classic Rock to Progressive to Country, this self-produced EP delivers a fresh new Rock sound not heard in years. The attention hungry sound and catchy lyrics delivers a ‘what you see is what you get’ attitude that captures a cross-generational fan base! Erik Shaw, Lorren Schweppe, Jess Skadburg and Mark Barrette hail from the Minneapolis, Minnesota area - each member experiencing success in writing, touring, performing and recording on both coasts as well as within the Midwest. Drawing on life experiences, these seasoned musicians pull it all together and deliver in a big way, but only scratch the surface of this project. Expect much more to come.

Dynazty's Dark Delight 20/4/20

At the beginning of this month, Swedish Melodic Metal outfit Dynazty released 'The Dark Delight', their biggest and most engrossing album so far, spearheaded by their first single 'Presence Of Mind'. Following on from 'Titanic Mass', a chunk of an album, and the hit machine 'Firesign', its successor sees the band entering the new decade with a bang. With guitar riffs like machine gun fire, fast and snappy as a shark combined with Nils Molins (Amaranthe) eminent voice soaring over orchestral arrangements and huge background vocals, 'The Dark Delight', will leave you begging for more. As well as Nils, the band is also comprised of highly respected and sought after Metal scene musicians, including bassist Jonathan Olsson (Lindemann, Pain), guitarist Love Magnusson plus drummer Georg Härnsten Egg (Dee Snider) and guitarist Mikael Lavér (Joe Lynn Turner).

Gypsy's Crazed Kiss 20/4/20

Iron Maiden Legacy band Gypsy’s Kiss will release their EP, ‘Heat Crazed Vole: Re-tailed’, on Friday 1st May through Roulette Records and digitally distributed worldwide by Cargo Distribution, of which the title track is today's Track Of The Day. Maiden founder/bassist Steve Harris and David Smith were founder members of Gypsy’s Kiss and in April 1974 they had their first paying gig at the Cart and Horses, Stratford, when they were orginally named Influence. Smith had been asked to reform the band many times over the years and finally did so for a charity festival in March 2018. The reaction from the Maiden Family and audience was so incredible that they decided to continue recording and playing. This EP was originally self-released in 2019 but has since been remastered and now contains new tracks ‘Settle the Score’ and, radio single ‘Don’t Ask the Question’, that both signal a change in direction for the revived Gypsy’s Kiss, moving to a more modern sound whilst staying true to their 70's Classic Rock heritage.

Ayreon's Amazing Flight 20/4/20

At the end of last month, Music Theories Recordings/Mascot Label Group released ‘Ayreon – Electric Castle Live And Other Tales’, a spectacular live performance last year of the third Ayreon album ‘Into The Electric Castle’, of which 'Amazing Flight' is today's Video Of The Day. Over four nights at Tilburg’s 013 venue (the scene of Arjen Lucassen’s Ayreon Universe series of live shows in 2017) Lucassen, his band and one of modern Progressive music’s most emphatic of casts celebrated the 20th anniversary of the album in front of 12,000 adoring fans from 64 different countries who had flown in from around the world. In fact, it all went so well, that Lucassen was planning to take the show to headline the prestigious German Night Of The Prog in June, however, unfortunately the ongoing Corona crisis has resulted in the festival being postponed to 2021 (16th – 18th July).

Wishbone Ash Album Review 19/4/20

"It’s classic Ash in that respect, with melodic harmonised guitars flowing in and out and beautifully fat toned and equally tuneful solos everywhere; the vocal sound is the same, with Andy Powell sounding unchanged from his youthful self; however, the addition of Mark Abrahams as a co-writer with Andy Powell has resulted in a strong set of songs that have more focus than some of the older material, and seem more accessible, with great hooks, one after another."

Today read another one of our self-isolating album reviews here, as Simon Green gives his take on Wishbone Ash's CD 'Coat Of Arms' that was released at the end of February, plus check out our Track Of The Day.

Live Isolation Sunday Returns 19/4/20

Katatonia Behind The Blood 19/4/20

Katatonia return with their brand-new album 'City Burials' this coming Friday 24th April, on Peaceville Records, and the album’s second single 'Behind The Blood' is today's Video Of The Day. The track bursts into life with a trademark screaming guitar solo before dropping into an upbeat distinctive and hugely memorable Katatonia chorus. Katatonia was formed in 1991 by Jonas Renkse and Anders Nyström, transitioning from early pioneers of the rising Black/Death/Doom movement, to powerhouses of the Progressive Metallic Rock genre. Taking an unexpected break, following the conclusion of their 2016 'The Fall Of Hearts' album tour, they are not only back, but newly armed with arguably their finest album to date. Also consisting of Niklas Sandin - bass, Daniel Moilanen - drums and Roger Öjersson - guitar, the enormously vivid and powerful 'City Burials' is indeed an opus of absorbing, soaring Progressive Rock and meticulously crafted doses of melancholy.

One World: Together At Home 18/4/20

Not only is cellist, singer, songwriter and composer, Calum Ingram performing a live stream here at 8pm UK time tonight, but also later at 1am UK time (5pm Los Angeles and 8pm New York), there's the little matter of the ‘One World: Together At Home’ Global Special which will be streamed live online on multiple global platforms, including Youtube, whilst BBC One will broadcast a recording of the virtual concert later on Sunday. Organised by WHO, it will celebrate and support brave healthcare workers doing life-saving work on the frontlines and will include Joe Armstrong of Green Day, Eddie Vedder, Elton John, Paul McCartney and Stevie Wonder.

Once Upon A Time 18/4/20

Inventive, distinctive German Progressive Rock/Metal group Cryptex recently signed with Steamhammer/SPV to release ‘Once Upon A Time’ their irrefutably excellent third album, on Friday 8th May, of which 'Bloodmoon', the potent, atmospheric first single from the album, is today's Track Of The Day. Packed with unpredictable time changes and a host of genius musical moments, the new album is their most emotional, profound and uncompromising piece of work yet, and is a swaggeringly diverse, mesmeric delight. Comprising of multi-instrumentalist Simon Moxon, bassist/co-lyricist Marc Andrejkovits, guitarist André Jean Henri Mertens and drummer Simon Schröder, the band describe the consummate songs on ‘Once Upon A Time’, as an “unrestrained, autobiographic psychograms full of ambivalent feelings and approaches in self-reflection”, and are indubitably set to win over hordes of new fans worldwide with this astonishing, arresting, inspired album.

Killing Me 18/4/20

Last Tuesday, singer-songwriter and bassist Tal Wilkenfeld released her video for 'Killing Me', a standout single taken from last year's BMG debut solo album, ‘Love Remains’, which is also today's Video Of The Day. The Hard-Rocking cut sees the formidable musician exploring her perspective on isolation and self-reflection. The Marielle Tepper (Gaslamp Killer, Lapalux) directed clip sees the formidable instrumentalist and vocalist in a small unadorned room, fighting a physical representation of her dark side by way of a body double in a black suit. From 'Corner Painter', her rollicking debut single featuring Blake Mills and Benmont Tench, to 'Haunted Love', a soft selection of melodious yet prolific bass and orchestra, to the warm ballad 'Under The Sun', with yearning sounds from an Indian classical violinist, the album showcases a transcendent balance between instrumental prowess and exquisite song-craft.

Amy Birks CD Review 17/4/20

"Off to Latin America with the Flamenco spark of 'I Wish' with lyrics based on the words of Christina Rossetti’s 1862 poem 'I Wish I Was A Little Bird'. Christina Rossetti is a poet, activist and the subject of some of the most famous paintings of the Pre-Raphaelite movement. The track features Prog Rock legend Steve Hackett on acoustic guitar. The single is accompanied by a video featuring Amy and a mysterious Flamenco guitarist each represented in stunning origami stop motion piece, created by Susan Raybould (Origami Om) and pushed the boundaries of traditional origami design."

Today, not only read another one of our self-isolating album reviews, as Steven C. Gilbert gives us his take here on Ms Amy Birks 'All That I Am And All That I Was' CD that was released earlier this month, but also check out today's Video Of The Day.

Gungfly Three-Date October UK Tour 17/4/20

Rikard Sjöblom's Gungfly is coming to the UK for three select live dates, co-headlining alongside the Robin Armstrong-led Cosmograf on Friday 2nd October at London's Dingwalls and Manchester's Academy 3 on Saturday 3rd October, before continuing on to Chepstow's Summer’s End Festival on Sunday 4th October. In recent years, he has also become known for his work with English Progressive collective Big Big Train, playing live with them as well as performing on their recent studio albums.

Please stay safe and healthy, wherever you are in our wonderful world of music.

Jarvis Leatherby Interview 16/4/20

Today's Track Of The Day sees bass guitarist Jarvis Leatherby joining The Zach Moonshine Show to talk about Cirith Ungol's new album 'Forever Black', due to be released on Friday 24th April, plus Zach will also be complementing Jarvis' interview with some brand new tracks from the CD. Formed in Ventura, California, in the early 1970's, few bands in the history of the Heavy Metal underground have a story as remarkable, improbable, or uplifting as that of Cirith Ungol. After years of frustration took their toll, the band was laid to rest in May 1992, but now, as the Cirith Ungol resurrection enters its fifth year, the band, also consisting of Tim Baker - vocals, Greg Lindstrom - guitar, Robert Garven - drums and Jim Barraza - guitar, release their first collection of all-new material in 29 years, folllowing their expansive double-live album, 'I'm Alive', in October last year. Make no mistake: 'Forever Black' is a classic Cirith Ungol album in every sense of the word with its trademark dark and foreboding riffs, pounding rhythms and soul-searing vocal attack.

Cicadastone Box Clever 16/4/20

Today's Video Of The Day is Cicadastone's new single 'Box Of Anger', out now on Golden Robot Records, and it's the first track taken from their highly anticipated second album, 'Cold Chamber', due late 2020. The Melbourne based four-piece deliver music that packs a punch, with old school 90’s influences and a slick modern edge, finding their own space in the Grunge Rock genre. 2019 saw Cicadastone sign with Golden Robot Records, and the new album not only sees them continue to push the Grunge Rock boundaries, but is also a natural progression forward for the band. They’ve developed their own unique sound while staying truly authentic to the genre, a difficult task in a time when it’s all been done before.

Bywater Call CD Review 15/4/20

"Next up is ‘Bring Me Down’, a Bluesy organ laden ballad, which highlights all the band member’s individual talents at various points during its seven-minute transition. ’Nightmare’, despite the title, is actually a smooth groover, before we shift gear in a funky Blues direction with ‘Over & Over’. Meanwhile, ’Hometown’ falls right into the aforementioned Ms. Raitt’s territory of a Blues ballad, and works well as a prelude to the song of the album."

The Petal Falls CD Review 14/4/20

"’A Lifetime Too Late’ returns to a more keyboard dominated mid-tempo track, then onto ‘In The Shadow Of The Clan’, which reaches out for a piece of yearning euphoria. Similarly, the next song ‘Say A Prayer’ is backed with some classy female backing vocals from Avril Davis, Tracy Tucker and Sharron Wallace, before the catchy ‘Liberated’, closes the album at track number eight."

Green Leaf Brotherhood 13/4/20

Last month Green Leaf Rustlers released their debut 'From Within Marin', and their third single off the album, a super-charged rendition of Gram Parsons' classic 'Big Mouth Blues', is today's Track Of The Day. Comprised of Chris Robinson, Barry Sless, Greg Loiacono, Pete Sears and John Molo, Green Leaf Rustlers are a staple of the live music scene in and around Marin County. While seldom performing outside of Northern California, their reputation precedes them for re-imagining Country Rock gems by artists like Townes Van Zandt, Waylon Jennings, The Byrds and more. For the album, the band called upon frequent Robinson collaborator and legendary Grateful Dead archivist Betty Cantor Jackson to record the band live at Sweetwater Music Hall in Mill Valley, California on March 27th, 28th and 29th 2018.

Cypher16 Break 13/4/20

Innovative British Rockers Cypher16 have unveiled the first song 'Break' from their upcoming second full-length album, 'It's A Long Way Back (From This Road)', which features guest bassist Vishal “V” Khetia from Heart of a Coward, and is today's Video Of The Day. The lyrical theme of 'Break' has also taken on an unplanned relevance in the current climate, providing a message of hope during this trying time. A refreshingly original Rock band, Cypher16 harnesses Metal with a hint of modern Industrial to create a truly massive sound. Consisting of Jack Doolan - vocals/guitars, Will Cass - guitars/vocals, Rich Hinks - bass and Declan Doran - drums, the band’s debut album, 'The Great Surveyor', was released in October 2015 to rave reviews.

Introducing .... The Petal Falls 12/4/20

Hard Rock outfit The Petal Falls released their long awaited second album 'All These Years' at the end of February through the Handful Of Dust label, and the title track is today's Track Of The Day. 'All These Years' is not only the culmination of eight months of hard work in post-production, but is just part of a wealth of rich material they had built up due to past, well documented, record company wranglings, that will see further releases over the next few years. The development of the Kent band's music and unique style is the result of a lifetime of musical influences that have grown into a sound that is hard to pigeon hole but is always vibrant, interesting, powerful and surprising in both its scope and execution. Indeed, one of their main strengths is the quality of the writing and the level of performance encapsulated within each and every song.

Naked Six Outside Looking In 12/4/20

Today's Video Of The Day is Naked Six's ‘Outside Looking In’, the latest single to be taken from their recently released debut album 'Lost Art of Conversation', out now via Silver Lining Music. ‘Outside Looking In’ is a grand statement from the 21st century Rock ‘n’ Roll trio, with stunning Pink Floyd soaked tones, as the band from Manchester display the widescreen dexterity to their driven Rock as they incorporate powerful piano chords and imposing sax moments. The video captures frontman and guitarist Seb Byford, surfing along a desolate UK shoreline. Also featuring brothers Callum Witts on bass and Tom Witts on drums, the band came together in 2015, describing themselves as Alternative Rock/Grunge/Schizoid Blues with the Punk attitude of the 70's. They deliver high octane, electrifying performances and have also supported the likes of The Blinders, Blackwaters and Virgin Mary's.

Everyday Heroes CD Review 11//4/20

"The guitar laden ’Breathe Again’ is that kind of festival Rock track you toast with your beer in the mid-Summer sun - should we be allowed out this Summer to see one! ‘West Of Forever’, an anthemic rocker, rolls us down the tracks with an interesting burst of a trumpet, to the final song ‘Without A Throne’, down-tempo, with an excellent vocal delivery from Mr. Philips, not forgetting a massive contribution overall from Daniel Richards - rhythm guitar/backing vocals, Jay Haines - drums/backing vocals and Lewis Watkins - bass guitar."

Today read another one of our self-isolating album reviews, as Geoff C. this time gives you his take here on Everyday Heroes' new 'A Tale Of Sin & Sorrow' CD, which is due out on Friday 5th June, plus check out our Track Of The Day. Tonight heralds the very first online live gig here at 8.30pm at the Basingstoke Blues Club (BBC3) with Basingstoke’s finest Sugarman Sam. Formed in November 2013, Sugarman Sam and the Voodoo Men combine classic elements of Blues and combine them with the raucous power of Rock. Sam is a Bluesman through-and-through; being brought up on a diet of high-profile names like B.B. King, Led Zeppelin and Gary Moore to name a few. He has succesfully plied his trade by touring across the UK, playing festivals such as HRH Blues, The Great British R&B Festival and Kent BluesRockfest and appearing in national publications ‘Blues Matters’ and ‘Blues in Britain’. He has joined a host of names riding the current wave of UK-based Blues guitar gunslingers and is rapidly rising in popularity and demand.

Convicted Of The Right 11/4/20

On Friday 1st May, Prog Metal trio Final Coil, in conjunction with their label, Wormholedeath, will release their 'Convicted Of The Right' EP, and to celebrate the band have unleashed an astonishing video for the title track, which is today's Video Of The Day! The video brings to life in harrowing fashion the song’s commentary on the conditioning and indoctrination of young men fed into the military machine. The EP sees this powerful track from 2019’s acclaimed concept album, 'The World We Left Behind For Others' (pictured), backed by an array of exciting, exclusive material, when they recorded live, vibrant studio versions of ‘Empty Handed’, ‘Spider Feet’ and ‘You Waste My Time’.

Pantomime Villains 10/4/20

Ever-rebellious, Southern Country Rock-influenced, 4-piece powerhouse, The Outlaw Orchestra release their 10-track debut album ‘Pantomime Villains’ on Friday 29th May. A bundle of foot-stomping fun, the band formed in mid-2016 bringing together David Roux (guitars/lead vocals), Ryan Smith (drums/percussion/vocals), Pete Briley (banjo/lap steel/vocals) and Alex Barter (double bass/vocals). Sounding like they’ve been steeped in moonshine since birth, the band do indeed hail from the Deep South – Great Britain's Southampton, to be precise! Accomplished musicianship, rich in hard Southern and 70's-style Rock plus Cajun, Dixie, Country and even Flamenco, brings the ‘Orchestra’ to the party, whilst their deep-set taste for irreverence, not playing by the rules, rebel hearts and sheer energy bring in the ‘Outlaw’ contingent.

Double Experience Nerd Rock 10/4/20

Drawing inspiration from their Nerd Rock forebearers in Coheed and Cambria, Weezer and Muse, Canada’s Double Experience aim to guide you through these troubling times with their new full-length record, 'Alignments', due to be released on Friday 24th April, of which 'Your Biggest Fan' is today's Video Of The Day. Proving that they are more than just sweater vests and big glasses, the band have crafted a concept album with heart and mind that's as catchy as it is complex! Good and evil, order and chaos - but at the same time celebrating what makes us different. The message is that concepts are not as easily-controlled as they are within tabletop gaming. In our world, thoughts and prayers are as disposable as the latest streamable series. While the lines between politics and humanity have blurred, the chasms that divide us have not.

Trident Waters Control The Animal 9/4/20

London based trio Trident Waters release their new single, ‘Control the Animal’, on Friday 24th April, through Roulette Records and digitally distributed worldwide by Cargo Distribution. It's taken from their forthcoming album due for release this Autumn, and with three self-released EP's under their belts, they have already established themselves for some years now on the underground Rock scene, radio and in the press. The band have been together since 2015 and feature the exceptional vocal talents of guitarist Andrew Knightley, Wilson Zaidan (bass) and Greg Zaka (drums). No suprises then, when they cite their inspiration as Rival Sons, ZZ Top, AC/DC, John Lee Hooker and Joe Bonamassa, reinforcing the fact that they have the capability and musicianship to stand out from the crowd.

Johnny Ong's Isolation 9/4/20

Singer/songwriter Jonny Ong's latest track ‘Isolation’ was released last Friday via Sound Portal Studios, and it's today's Track Of The Day. This multi-instrumentalist hails from Singapore and melds traditional approaches with Western-influences. During his teenage years, Jonny not only found a deep obsession for Psychedelic music, but he was also inspired by a busker in Amsterdam to pick up the Handpan. ‘Isolation’ is a perfect blend of all these influences, skills, instruments and song writing drawn from the many years of studying his craft. Intended as a lamentation of loneliness, it's certainly something we can all certainly relate to right now.

Otherwise Crossfire 9/4/20

Otherwise recently took to the streets for today's Video Of The Day, 'Crossfire', to capture a picture of Las Vegas no one inhabiting the Earth thought they would ever witness. As the entire civilisation across planet Earth navigates towards a better day, the band took the path of continuing to create in support of their latest studio album 'Defy'. The Las Vegas quartet of Adrian Patrick (lead vocals), Ryan Patrick (guitar), Nick Bedrosian (bass) and Joe Conner (drums), push the boundaries of their signature style in terms of both songcraft and sonic experimentation alike. They've shared the stage with everyone from Stone Sour to Papa Roach, and when we all come through this together, they’ll be back on stage bringing energy, entertainment and inevitably some level of joy to all assembled across the planet.

Sign Of The Times 8/4/20

Illustrious German Heavy Metal/Hard Rock guitarist Axel Rudi Pell has lined up the release of his utterly excellent new studio album ‘Sign Of The Times’, on Friday 8th May on Steamhammer/SPV. Furthermore, both American musicians in the band - singer Johhny Gioeli and drummer Bobby Rondinelli - were on fire when they added their magic to the mix. Axel’s most recent studio album, ‘Knight’s Call’, crashed into Germany’s national top 10 album chart and the UK’s top 40 Rock chart, and was universally acclaimed on release in 2018. Now ‘Sign Of The Times’, which also includes Ferdy Doernberg on keyboards and Volker Krawczak on bass, even outshines its much lauded predecessor, which is all set to be proclaimed a career-defining, landmark album, propelling Pell ever higher into Hard Rock’s heady stratosphere!

Firewind To Release New CD 8/4/20

Firewind (Video Of The Day) release their latest eponymous album via AFM on Friday 15th May, not only, as usual, featuring the brilliance of exceptional guitarist Gus G (Ozzy Osbourne, Arch Enemy, Dream Evil), but it also sees the debut of vocalist Herbie Langhans (Avantasia, Radiant, Seventh Avenue), stepping up to the plate. Over the last 20 years, Firewind's faithful have been in awe of the band's fantastic riffs, hooks and solos from Gus' gifted hands plus a great vocal melody – an integral part of every Firewind song. In that respect, nothing has changed on their latest album, with Herbie's charismatic voice nailing each and every last one of the ten new songs, infusing them with a remarkable expressive force.

Mariana Semkina CD Review 7/4/20

"Skin' starts with warming melodically plucked strings before gradually building with sumptuous decorous piano, plush teasing percussion and insistent palatial drums. Semkina's mellifluous vocals are delicately soft and gracefully soothing despite the highly sensitive, painful and emotionally charged lyrics, “I am sanding light, peeling my skin off, off my body where you touched it”. 'How To Be Alone' starts quiet and wispy before ascending with assertion. The lyrics cascade like water falls from euphonious vocals, “I will teach you how to be alone my girl”."

Today, not only read another one of our self-isolating album reviews, as Steven C. Gilbert gives us his take here on Mariana Semkina's (Iamthemorning) 'Sleepwalking' CD that was released on Valentine's Day, but also check out today's Video Of The Day.

Australian instrumental Post-Rockers sleepmakeswaves have delayed the release of their upcoming project ‘these are not your dreams’ until Friday 17th July, due to the outbreak of COVID-19, of which their single ‘Batavia’ is today's Track Of The Day. Also featuring Johnny Kelly (Type O Negative, Danzig) on drums, Scott Griffin (LA Guns) on bass and Nadja Reed on vocals, they deliver their inspired debut single with all the soul, honesty and depth of the original, but in their own fashion, dripping with immaculate musicianship and flawless vocals.

White Buffalo CD Review/Livestream Tonite 5/4/20

"However, the top tracks on this eleven-song collective are saved towards the end, with the pure class of ‘Widows Walk’ (suffice to say which is now on repeat), followed closely by ‘River Of Love And Loss’ - very sparse and atmospheric - yet effective. ‘The Rapture’, dark in its delivery, lets the Buffalo roam free, and along with the smoothing ballad of ‘I Don’t Know A Thing About Love’, they both fittingly close down this piece of art."

Today, not only read another of our self-isolating album reviews, as Geoff C. gives us his take here on The White Buffalo's new 'On The Widows Walk' CD (see today's Track Of The Day), due to be released on Friday 17th April, but also tune in to his live streaming show here at 8pm (UK Time) tonight.

Kansas’s signature sound is unmistakable throughout, showcasing Ronnie Platt’s towering vocals, David Ragsdale’s searing violin, Tom Brislin’s dazzling keyboards, Williams and Rizvi’s electrifying guitar riffs, Ehart’s powerful drums and Billy Greer’s rocking bass!

Oh God - It's Dirty Power! 4/4/20

In these times of gig cancellations and uncertainty throughout both the music industry and the world, Hard-Rock trio Dirty Power have taken to the net to dish out one giant “clean elbow wave”, releasing, earlier than expected, their latest track ‘Oh God’, which is today's Video Of The Day. Influenced by gloriously timeless ‘legacy acts', the Dublin based band is driven by an independent D.I.Y. Punk ethic, in everything from the writing, recording and release process, to approaching performing and touring. An ever evolving collective of musicians, they stick to doing what they want to do, and do it their own way - think Nirvana, Foo Fighters, Audioslave and Rage Against The Machine, all in one giant melting pot of influence, yet creative originality.

Rory Gallagher CD Review 3/4/20

"These previously unreleased recordings, a 20 strong set taken from four shows in London, Brighton, Sheffield and Newcastle during 1977, demonstrate again his fluid skills on his battered Strat, and stand comparison to his own classic (up there among the best from anybody) live albums from the 70’s, ‘Irish Tour ’74’ and ‘Live in Europe’. There are of course some songs from those albums in the new collection. Like crowd favourites ‘Walk on Hot Coals’, ‘Tatoo’d Lady’, and the aforementioned ‘Bullfrog Blues’. It is interesting to compare versions; with his free flowing and exuberant guitar playing, he throws in all sort of freshly improvised tricks amongst the melodic power chords that make many of his songs stand apart from the predictable 12 bar structures often found elsewhere."

Today read another one of our self-isolating album reviews here, as Simon Green gives his take on Rory Gallagher's CD 'Check Shirt Wizzard – Live in ‘77' that was released last month, plus check out our Video Of The Day.

Introducing .... Kinstrife 2/4/20

Hard Melodic Rock band KinStrife have released their first ever music video, 'Unconditional', ahead of their upcoming debut album, which is today's Video Of The Day. The band from Hereford started in 2013 and is the brainchild of lead and rhythm guitarist Alan Kaye and bass guitarist Dave Richards - their style heavily influenced by the golden age of Rock music from the 80’s through to the modern day. Complemented by Mike Hoskins on vocals and Simon Richards on drums, this shows in their unapologetic style of Rock that pulls from different bands that inspired them. It has been a long journey for the band, but a worthwhile one, not only with their debut on the horizon, but also the fact that they are already working on a follow-up!

Buck & Evans CD Review 1/4/20

"‘Sunrise’ sees Sally Ann’s soaring vocal follow Dominic’s snaking bass lines, while both of them are in fine, soulful form on ‘Sinking’; Chris provides great guitar outros for both songs. Anyone wishing to dip in for a taste of just how powerful Sally Ann’s vocals can be should check out ‘Back To Yesterday’."
