It's Halloween, and today at 3.33pm EST and 7.33pm in the UK here, BraveWords goes “Metalhead To Head” with Judas Priest’s Rob Halford on Streaming For Vengeance. One of the greatest Heavy Metal bands in music history, Halford's new book, 'Confess', is a deeply personal moment for the Metal God and a must-read. Indeed, the interview digs very deep into Rob's past and they discuss gay marriage, Judas Priest at 50+, the new studio record and the fact that 'Stained Class' and 'Van Halen I' were released on the same day in 1978, so there's plenty of Eddie Van Halen idolisation as well!

King King CD Review 30/10/20

"No, it’s solid, anthemic Rock from the kick off with the single ‘Never Give In’ opening side one (it is available on vinyl after all) sounding rather like Bad Company (which is not bad company to be compared to) with the classic arrangement of big slashing chords for the first three phrases of the verses and a descending run on the fourth.  It even has a double time pick up at the end of the song; showing off time and tested moves!  Rather like the opening track off their last excellent album, ‘Exile & Grace’, which was used as the opening number when I saw them last live back in 2018, this has all the credentials to be the new blockbuster set opener.”

Today read yet another one of our great album reviews, as Simon Green gives you his take here on King King's new CD 'Maverick', which is being released next Friday 6th November, that includes their second single, and today's Video Of The Day, 'Never Give In'.

Jack J's World On Fire 30/10/20

The middle 8 takes the track in an unexpected direction, with hints of Floyd, before the band come crashing back in for the finale. The track was recorded in Brazil at the renowned Estúdio Versão Acústica and produced by Lucas Sagaz, who also mixed Hutchinson’s recent  live album ‘Who Feeds The Lockdown?’. It was co-written with his band mates Lazarus Michaelides (bass) and Felipe Amorim (drums). The band are currently working on the new album at Momentum Studios in Devon, where Kris Barras Band recorded their last two albums.

Genesis XIX 28/10/20

Following the first relaxation of the lockdown rules, Tom, along with guitarists Frank Blackfire and Yorck Segatz, as well as new addition Toni Merkel (drums), couldn’t wait to get back to writing creatively. Incredibly fired up by both frustration and inspiration, the band consequently went into overdrive to create the twelve killer songs contained on the storming ‘Genesis XIX’.

I've Got A Feeling 16/10/20

Last Friday, Samantha Martin & Delta Sugar released their new single, and today's Video Of The Day, ‘I’ve Got A Feeling’, taken from their upcoming studio album, ‘The Reckless One’, which in turn is due to be released by Gypsy Soul Records on Friday 20th November. With the worldwide pandemic wrecking utter havoc upon the careers of many musicians, the band elected to use their time off the road to record, their latest tour-de-force. The astonishingly powerful, funky and deeply soulful, highly anticipated new album, is the follow-up to 2018’s Juno-nominated 'Run To Me'. 'The Reckless One' represents another massive step forward for Samantha as a songwriter, singer, arranger and band leader. Eleven of the album’s twelve songs were either co-written or solely composed by the multi-faceted artist. Indeed, her music embodies Roots, Blues, Blues Rock, Soul, R&B, including a dash of Motown – performed by an ensemble of amazing musicians at the top of their game.

Straight To You: Live 15/10/20

The Kenny Wayne Shepherd Band will be releasing their first ever live concert video, 'Straight To You: Live', on Friday 27th November via Provogue, of which the opener, 'Woman Like You', is today's Video Of The Day. This show took place last year at the famous Leverkusen Jazzstage for the iconic German TV show, Rockpalast on 25th November, following the release of 'The Traveler' album in May, although the 'Traveler World Tour' was interrupted when the Covid-19 pandemic broke. Indeed, the release of 'Straight To You: Live' comes during a time when there is no live music and the world looks a very different place to a year ago, and as the seven-piece Kenny Wayne Shepherd Band bow out on a phenomenal finale of Jimi Hendrix's 'Voodoo Child (Slight Return)', they wave goodbye to the cheering crowd that reignites that love of live music and the hope that is to come.

Uncertain Times 14/10/20

Jakko M Jakszyk's enforced sabbatical from King Crimson has given him the opportunity to complete a new solo album, 'Secrets & Lies', due to be released next week on Friday 23rd October, of which the third single, ‘Uncertain Times’, has recently been released, complete with today's Video Of The Day featuring comedian Al Murray. 'Secrets & Lies' contains ten songs that balances sensitive writing, musical technique and accessible tunes cast in an impressively cinematic sound world. The result is a mature work brimming with yearning melodies in symphonic or widescreen settings, fluid guitar work, and Jakko’s heartfelt, emotional vocals. Jakszyk is joined by bandmates Robert Fripp, Gavin Harrison, Tony Levin and Mel Collins, as well as appearances from John Giblin (Peter Gabriel), Mark King (Level 42) and Peter Hammill (Van der Graff Generator).

Damn The Light 14/10/20

London based, horror influenced, Metal beast, Possessor, have recently released today's Track Of The Day, ‘Bloodsuckers’, the second single to be taken from their new album ‘Damn The Light’, set for release on Friday 30th October via APF Records. Following shows with the likes of Conan, Black Moth and The Shrine, their 2019 album, 'Gravelands', cemented the London band’s reputation as a heavier-than-hell primitive force to be reckoned with. With ripping amps about to blow, a barrage of overdriven bass attack and pile-driver drums from beyond the grave, this mausoleum of riffs and madness will take your soul and wake the dead. 44 minutes of horror drenched Metal, nine tales of mayhem and one vulgar ritualistic interlude await those brave enough to enter this twisted realm between life and death. Will you survive or will you succumb to The Strangeness?

United $tate$ Of Anarchy 13/10/20

Legendary Thrash Metallers EvilDead, who formed in 1986 and released one riotous EP and two cranium crunching landmark albums before imploding in 1992, have reunited and re-signed to Steamhammer/SPV to release their stunning third album, ‘United $tate$ Of Anarchy’, on Friday 30th October. The US band's sound was unique, highlighting a blend of speed and Thrash Metal guitar riffs along with hyper drumming locked in with an over the top thundering bass with Punk overtones, complemented with lyrics that explored political, thought provoking social ideas, as well as horror and nuclear war themes. United $tate$ Of Anarchy’, which contains nine original new studio songs, plus a Metalised cover version of the B-52’s ‘Planet Claire’, is a a collection of vital tracks that are a throwback to their roots of Thrash, returning more powerful than ever, and have reawakened again to annihilate the masses.

Pride Of Lions 13/10/20

Revered Melodic Rock act Pride Of Lions, featuring legendary Survivor founder Jim Peterik and powerhouse American vocalist Toby Hitchcock, returned last Friday with their sixth album, 'Lion Heart', of which 'Carry Me Back' is today's Video Of The Day. Pride Of Lions is the perfect outlet for the duo to showcase their renowned skills: the songs on the new record demonstrate what a phenomenal songwriting and performing ‘lionheart’ Peterik still is a full five decades after his first chart success in 'The Ides Of March', while Hitchcock has developed his trademark style since first coming to the attention of genre afficionados via the debut 'Pride Of Lions' album in 2003, with a voice that initially drew comparison to Bobby Kimball (Toto), Jimi Jamison (Survivor) and Lou Gramm (Foreigner).

Having spent most of last year on the road touring across the UK and Europe, headlining festivals and receiving some of the best reviews of their career, the band were due to play a string of new concerts and festivals this year, including being part of the Grace Jones’ curated Meltdown Festival on London’s Southbank.

Against The Wall 12/10/20

Today's Video Of The Day is Mason Hill's new single and title track, taken from their forthcoming debut album, 'Against The Wall', due to be released next year on Friday 5th March. Having performed at the recent Planet Rock Rock The Asylum pay per view show in Birmingham, the band, consisting of Scott Taylor (lead vocals), James Bird (lead guitar), Marc Montgomery (guitar), Matthew Ward (bass) and Craig McFetridge (drums), legged it back up to Scotland to go straight into the video shoot with director Scott McKay and BAFTA nominated writer David Barras, from award winning Scottish production company, Strangeboat. The new album showcases the loyal and committed fanbase the band have rallying around them raising recording funds through Kickstarter, and in November last year the group recorded 11 songs at Riverside Studios in Glasgow, with Scott later travelling to New York to track his vocals.

Malone Sibun Inn 11/10/20

"So all in all a nice listen, with Innes’ compositions faring best to these ears after the first few auditions, and definitely a band that I’ll hope to hear in a live setting." That was part of our take on Malone Sibun's debut album, 'Come Together', earlier this year, and despite the fact that we will be seated and socially distanced when they play London's New Cross Inn, on Sunday 22nd November, at least gigs have begun again at the iconic venue in New Cross Road SE14.

Green Eyes Skam 11/10/20

UK Rock trio Skam recently released, via X-Ray Records, today's Video Of The Day for 'Green Eyes', which is the first single taken from their forthcoming EP, 'Intra', due to be released next year on Friday 26th February, which combines the familiar Skam power with melodic choruses to showcase a significant step forward by the band. Combining an early Def Leppard crunch with a touch of the Foo Fighters and the grit of Rival Sons - the track’s focus is on jealousy and how the grass can look greener on the other side of the fence, but to overcome it, you need to suck it up, swallow it down, and concentrate on your own life. It's the first EP of a two-part anthology, making up their fourth full length release, and have gone back to basics and put together a collection of hard hitting inspirational tracks.

Lyonen Revelation 11/10/20

For fans of Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, Metallica, Stratovarius, Helloween and Avenged Sevenfold - indulge yourself with today's Track Of The Day, 'Revelation', taken from Lyonen’s debut album, 'This is Lyonen', released in August. Luis “Tato” Rivas' solo-project is fueled by a passion for music and a willingness to spread his message, which will have listeners engulfed into the world he creates with his innate talent and powerful compositions. 'Revelation' is about not being engrossed in the lives of others and how you need the courage to do your own thing. With soaring powerful vocals provided by the UK’s Craig Cairns, this release is just the tip of the iceberg for Lyonen; music is constantly being written and there are plans for a follow-up album next year.

The Buckleys Breathe 10/10/20

Australian rising stars, The Buckleys, continue their ascent in the UK with their gorgeous new single ‘Breathe’, today's Track Of The Day, taken from their debut album, 'Daydream', which came out at the end of last month via Snakefarm Records. A major hit in Australia, ‘Breathe’ reached #3 on the airplay chart, and the video finds the band on the ocean shores near their Byron Bay home as the sun sets. Indeed, siblings Sarah (20), Molly (17) and Lachlan (18) – deliver their own unique style of feel-good music which has seen them grow from busking on the streets of Australia’s music capital, Tamworth, to topping Oz’s Country radio charts with the album title-track, ‘Daydream’.

Coldhearts Unavailable 10/10/20

Yesterday Matt Mitchell & The Coldhearts released the powerful radio remix track ‘Unavailable’, accompanied by today's striking Video Of The Day, in conjunction to help raise awareness of today's World Mental Health Day 2020. Originally featured on Matt's 2019 eponymous debut album, 'Unavailable' tells a story of someone who is trying to find themselves in a world of fast living artistic lifestyle and ending up amongst people that all seem to be trying their luck at doing the same thing. So behind all the smiles, nights out, bad habits, poker faces, living high life and experiencing many lows; they end up just feeling mentally exhausted and frayed.

Connor Bracken & The Mother Leeds Band CD Review 9/10/20

"Not only are the songs melodically powerful and fresh but, the lyrics haven’t just been chucked together to fill out the space; each song has its genesis in an interesting tale and the titles alone evoke a sense of American life from a different era; titles like ‘Photographs of Johnny Cash’ (a great song) and ‘Voice on the Radio’ (ditto!). The solos are short and punchy and the dual guitars are mostly employed driving the tunes with ringing chords and neat riffs.”

Today read yet another one of our great album reviews, as Simon Green gives you his take here on Connor Bracken & The Mother Leeds Band CD 'Nightbird Motel', which was released a fortnight ago and includes today's Video Of The Day, 'When The World Stops Turning'.

United State Of Mind 8/10/20

"Solving the tesseract would be easier than conveying the feeling of this new album launch. Power Trower trio, Priest preaching.. You could go on. But what it comes down to is a soulful, melodious piece that stretches the boundaries of genre. I guess this could only be a United States of Minds." Despite the state of his net curtains in the background, that was WRC correspondent Ivan De Mello's take earlier this week on a very special private virtual album launch and listening party via zoom for 'United State Of Mind' – the new album from three legends, Robin Trower, Maxi Priest and Livingstone Brown, that's due to be released tomorrow via Manhaton Records. With an intro from all three artists opening up about their thoughts and feelings about this exciting project and collaboration, Livingstone broadcasted from his studio and after the songs, the media, including Ivan, were able to interject with questions.

Lee's Dream 8/10/20

Master guitarist Lee Ritenour will be releasing his brand new album 'Dreamcatcher' on Friday 4th December via The Players Club, and his title track is today's Video The Day. For Ritenour, there aren't many 'firsts' left to achieve. During his dazzling five-decade career, the fabled LA guitarist has taken his music to the outer limits, alighting on every genre and occupying every position in the Rock 'n' Roll firmament. He's been an enfant terrible of 70's Fusion, a crossover star of the 80's Pop chart, an honorary exponent of Brazilian Jazz, and the fingers behind 90's supergroup, Fourplay. And yet, when he checks the rear-view mirror, the 68-year-old acknowledges he's never made a record like 'Dreamcatcher'. Weaving tapestries of instrumental guitar and conjuring eclectic moods, the 12 tracks of 'Dreamcatcher' rank amongst the most melodic and tinglingly beautiful in Ritenour's catalogue. Even without lyrics, every track tells a story.

Just when you thought this year could not get any worse, Eddie Van Halen, guitarist and co-founder of Van Halen, died yesterday of throat cancer at the age of 65. Today's Video Of The Day is dedicated to the Dutch-American musician, and if one song could ever sum up the electric energy of Eddie and Van Halen, then it just has to be 'Jump'. RIP Eddie.

Together with respected musician and lyricist Jim Vallance – who co-wrote 7 of the album’s 11 tracks – Meine, Schenker and Jabs open up like never before to reveal in forensic detail how the ‘Crazy World’ project came together. Of course ‘Wind Of Change’ went on to become the Scorpions’ biggest ever hit, becoming a worldwide anthem for the changing political times of 1990 when the Soviet bloc collapsed. With the Scorpions currently working on a new album, Rock Candy Mag’s cover story provides a must-read look back at a key moment in this legendary band’s history.

Jonny Ong Presents Chloe 6/10/20

Released in August, today's Video Of The Day, ‘Chloe’, sees Jonny Ong make use of biblical metaphor in his indictment of a manipulative woman from his past. Featuring a hazy instrumentation which calls to mind the innovative guitar techniques of Link Wray, ‘Chloe’ is the finest of Ong’s releases so far, bringing East and West together, consequently illustrating his pioneering mix of Singapoerean-influenced Folk Rock. Following in the footsteps of ‘Fools’, this is another clear indication of the kind of sophisticated songwriting that Ong is capable of, even when tackling the most painful of subject matters.

Gallows Circus Photo Gallery 5/10/20

A bit like London buses, today we share our second gig photo gallery of the week here, taken once again by Mr. Rockrpix himself, John Bull, at Gallows Circus' Launch Party at Leo's Red Lion gig on Saturday night in Gravesend, Kent. Despite it raining and being a masked socially distanced limited capacity seated gig on the outdoor stage, The Rock Cooperative Presents gig was sold out, following the recent release of Gallow Circus' latest, highly anticipated, EP entitled 'II'.

Yes I Am 5/10/20

Following their eponymously named debut album in 2019, mysterious Art Punk Rockers, The Imbeciles, return on Friday 30th October with a new self-released six-track EP entitled ‘Dissolution Sessions’, that features a new band line-up, a different sound plus today's Track Of The Day, 'Yes I Am', which gives you a taste of the new EP. It's a Foo Fighters/STP/Stooges-style Garage Punk banger, but played on Imbeciles terms - with the video intro tackling the bands recent line-up changes before one note leads and guitar scrapes, with off-beat stabs and a Pop Punk drum track that pulls the whole together. The band had originally gone into the studio earlier this year to record a radio session for BBC R6, but that ended up being cancelled because of the pandemic. The result is three new songs and three new editions of tracks that first appeared on the album. In January, they start recording the follow-up with Youth from Killing Joke which promises to be sonically eventful!

Northern Rain 5/10/20

Tim Bowness released his sixth solo outing 'Late Night Laments' on InsideOutMusic at the end of August, of which his haunting and mesmerising single, ‘Northern Rain’, is today's Video Of The Day. Co-produced by Bowness and Brian Hulse, the song was mixed by his longtime partner in no-man Steven Wilson and mastered by Calum Malcolm, combining electronic soundscapes and acoustic percussion with a powerfully emotional lyric and melody. Melanie Woods (Sidi Bou Said/Knifeworld) and Evan Carson (Kate Rusby/iamthemorning) guest, with

Peter Chilvers - who mainly creates visuals for Brian Eno - responsible for the video. 'Late Night Laments' offers a collection of lush, atmospheric songs with a wide lyrical scope and represents the most intimate, yet universal of Bowness’s solo releases. Richard Barbieri, Colin Edwin and classical percussionist Tom Atherton also contribute.

JD Simo CD Review 4/10/20

"Another cover version in the form of Blind Willie Johnson’s ‘Soul of a Man’ is given a modern twist, while ‘Help’ comes with layered guitar and vocals in an experimental reverb ambience. Closing out, with a return to the Blues, is the down-tempo whisky swagger of ‘Anna Lee’, which has that Jimmy Page feel about it. When comparing the original Simo line-up material, with JD's latest solo offering, it's clear that the new album is all about crossing genres, experimenting with the production and by mixing textures. That has well and truly been achieved! Indeed, “It’s a bridge between R&B and Psychedelic Rock,” as states JD."

Today read yet another one of our great Lockdown album reviews, as Geoff C. gives you his take here on JD Simo's self-titled second solo album, that was released in August, of which 'One Of These Days' is today's Video Of The Day.

October WRC Bulletin Out Today 1/10/20

Hi everyone, just a heads up that we have taken the opportunity during lockdown to commission the building of a new website, given our current site is now five years old. Indeed, the existing website had done us proud, however we now need not only something new/fresh, but also something that is faster and easier to navigate. All very exciting, but more about that over the coming months. Despite work on the new website, during September we not only continued with our lockdown CD reviews, namely Rory Gallagher and Crosby Pevar Raymond, but believe it or not we also had a brand new Bad Touch gig photo gallery (pictured) plus a pre-lockdown Jake Vegas & The Black Diamonds gig review! Also watch out in October for our Nigel Barker interview, plus some, time permitting, more CD reviews including King King, When Rivers Meet, Derek Sherinian, JD Simo, Twister, Mike Ross, Devin Townsend, Joe Payne, Connor Bracken and The Mother Leeds Band, ED Brayshaw, Kirk Fletcher, South Of Salem, Pain Of  Salvation, The Flower Kings, The Allman Betts Band, Robert Jon & The Wreck, Samantha Martin & Delta Sugar, Kyle Daniel and Joe Satriani. Indeed if you are still kicking your gig heels and you fancy doing a CD review of one of the albums above, or just contributing something of musical interest, then don't be shy, just e-mail us at wrinklyrockers11@aol.com In the meantime, take care of each other and keep safe.

Only Way Out 1/10/20

Today's Video Of The Day is Empyre's 'Only Way Out (Piano Acoustic)', a new darker, stripped back and more haunting version of the original track taken from their latest album, 'Self Aware'. Indeed, last November we had the pleasure of attending the band's 'Self Aware' album party gig held at London's Water Rats, with support from Jack J Hutchinson. Last year had been the band's most significant year so far, with the likes of Planet Rock and Classic Rock Magazine sitting up and paying attention to 'Self Aware', released earlier in July. In the meantime, Empyre are trying to get out as many tracks and videos online as they can, during Covid-19 times, for your watching and listening pleasure!

None Of Your Business 1/10/20

In August, multi-talented, pigeonhole-defying guitarmeister and multi-instrumentalist, Mike Ross released his sophomore single, and today's Track Of The Day, 'None Of Your Business', from his excellent new, genre-crossing 10-track solo album ‘The Clovis Limit Pt.2’, which itself is due out on Friday 30th October. Musically, this track feels very Lynyrd Skynyrd-like for its underlying hooks and riffs. There are also some surprises to be found, including a dreamy guitar interlude, as well as the driving, take-no-prisoners lead guitar and vocals that carry the track and gives it instant impact. Indeed, Mike’s trademark Heavy Blues electric guitar drives many of the tracks on the new album, as 'None Of Your Business' continues the roll-out of fresh material from a new album that’s remarkably strong on multiple fronts: a showcase for Mike’s songwriting and musicianship on multiple instruments.
