Borderline Charm Tonight 30/9/18

"With a new energy, the revitalized quartet's opening track 'Swing Sinner' sets the tone for this eleven song strong collection. As with each track Guyer delivers his vocals with (for the most part) controlled aggression, and it soon becomes obvious this is a band with a lot to say, and one that is not afraid to say it." That was part of our take here on Federal Charm's new CD 'Passenger' which was released earlier this month and to coincide with the release of the album, the band complete their co-headline tour alongside The Bad Flowers (Video Of The Day) at London's Borderline tonight supported by Those Damn Crows

Desperate Man 30/9/18

'Desperate Man’ is the latest/sixth studio album from Eric Church, one of Country music’s premier names and biggest, most respected stars; an artist whose ground-breaking 2014 outing, ‘The Outsiders’, a chart-topper in the US and the biggest selling Country album of that year, paved the way for the Rock/Country blend that is such a rich seam today. Eric's follow-up album ‘Mr. Misunderstood’ went on to win ‘Album of the Year’ at the CMA Awards in 2016, reaching RIAA-Platinum certification earlier this year. Church has long maintained that putting music into specific genres is an outmoded concept, and ‘Desperate Man’ (11 tracks tellingly overseen by regular producer Jay Joyce) is further proof of EC’s broad range of influences – from Rock and Metal acts through to Hank Williams Jr. and Ray Wylie Hubbard, the latter getting a co-writing credit on the new album’s lead single and title track (see today's Track Of The Day).

Wrinklystock 7 Countdown 30/9/18

With support once again from Wrinklystock legends The Replicants, The Kast off Kinks are back together playing great music and re-living the good times whilst keeping the songs alive that made The Kinks a household name - featuring Mick Avory (original drummer on all the classic hits from 1964-84), Ian Gibbons (keyboards/vocals, Kinks 80’s & 90’s and still with Sir Ray Davies), John Dalton (bass/vocals, Kinks 60’s & 70’s) alongside Dave Clarke (guitar/vocals, formerly of the Beach Boys, Noel Redding & Tim Rose). Expect an evening of iconic hits including: 'You Really Got Me', 'Dedicated Follower of Fashion', 'Sunny Afternoon', 'Lola', 'Days', 'Waterloo Sunset', 'Come Dancing', 'All Day and All of the Night' plus more... A great night out, not to be missed! Tickets priced £23 can be purchased online here or from the MJC Box Office on 01322 291100.

Kip Winger Borderline Tonight 29/9/18

American Rock musician, Kip Winger, returns to London for his 6th Annual concert tonight for an intimate set at The Borderline.  The multi-platinum recording artist, may be known best for his success with Winger and his early days as a bass player with Alice Cooper. However, the range and scope of his musical journey can be more fully experienced in his solo albums, namely 'This Conversation Seems Like A Dream', 'Songs From The Ocean Floor', 'From The Moon To The Sun', 'Ghosts' and most recently his 'Solo Box Set Collection'.

Midnight Ghost 29/9/18

Brainstorm’s new album, 'Midnight Ghost', released yesterday, is a veritable milestone. All the cogs have meshed and produced a result that’s bound to delight all Melodic Power Metal fans and delivers in no uncertain terms the full range of their typical trademarks: awesome melodies, dynamic grooves and extremely heavy guitar riffs. With Andy B. Franck (vocals), Torsten Ihlenfeld, Milan Loncaric (both guitars), Antonio Ieva (bass) and Dieter Bernert (drums), check out their Track Of The Day - the powerful ‘Ravenous Minds’.

I'll Die For You 29/9/18

Initially born as a one-off musical extravaganza between two Norwegian Metal and Hard Rock giants, Trond Holter (ex-Wig Wam) and vocalist Jorn Lande, the duo's Dracula Rock Opera has now morphed into a full-time musical project with guitarist, producer and songwriter Holter at the helm. With an outstanding line-up featuring singers Nils K Rue (Pagan’s Mind) and Eva Iselin Erichsen, Bernt Jansen on bass, Per Morten Bergseth on drums and Erling Henanger on keyboards, ‘Vlad The Impaler’ (see today's 'I'll Die For You' Video Of The Day) starts where 2015's ‘Swing Of Death’ left off. It is an album that gets straight to the point while simultaneously utilising diverse musical landscapes and it includes memorable melodic songs in a similar style to its predecessor. Think Savatage meets Meat Loaf meets Queen meets Alice Cooper with contemporary Hard Rock in the mix. The album will be released on Friday 9th November, with a special release show the following night in Halden, Norway, with more shows planned that include an appearance in May 2019 at the Karmøygeddon Festival.

The Boys Are Back In Town Tonight 28/9/18

"The crowd lapped it up, as the mastermind behind the drums, Brian Downey; counted in the songs keeping the rhythms tight, with Wilson on bass.  With his big curly hair and engaging smile Matt Wilson certainly looks the part, but he very much has his own powerful stage persona and completely owns the stage. The energy of the band went from strength to strength, 'Still In Love With You' soared with Grace and Edgar's guitar playing feeding off each other in dual guitar harmonies with high octane solos sweeping every head banger into the sleaze driven funky mood of 'Johnny The Fox'." That was part of our take on Alive And Dangerous at Nell's Jazz And Blues in February and indeed the boys are back in London tonight at Camden's The Underworld.

DBA Trading Boundaries Tonight 28/9/18

Super-duo Geoff Downes and Chris Braide, known as the Downes Braide Association (DBA), perform their first ever live show at a sold out Trading Boundaries in the heart of the Sussex countryside tonight. Musicians joining them are bass player Andy Hodge, who worked on their 'Skyscraper Souls' album (see today's Video Of The Day) released last November, David Longdon (Big Big Train) and David Colquhoun (Francis Dunnery, Go West). Barney Ashton Bullock (poet, songwriter; Andy Bell; Marc Almond) will be doing the narrative on the night. DBA also release a total remix of their acclaimed album 'Suburban Ghosts' on Friday 30th November. The remix features a plethora of additional musicians performing on the album.

Big Boy Bloater Interview 27/9/18

"Halfway through their current 'Pills' UK tour - Big Boy Bloater and The LiMiTs certainly delivered their meds at a packed and appreciative Black Heart in London's Camden last Wednesday night. Supported by his old mucker Jack J. Hutchinson, Bloater's trio, including Matt Cowley (drums) and Steven Oates (bass), are on the road from September to October, following the release of their latest critically acclaimed album ‘Pills’ in June." That was part of our Big Boy Bloater and The LiMiTs review here and  we were also lucky enough to grab a few words with the big man before his set here which is also today's Track Of The Day. Don't forget that band's tour continues at The Frog And Fiddle in Cheltenham tonight.

Universe In Reverse 27/9/18

Kaleb McKane’s spellbinding musical sojourns are explored in detail on his fresh 3-track EP titled 'Universe In Reverse' (today's Video Of The Day) that was released at the end of July. The tracks on the crowd-funded EP summarise Kaleb's perpetual state of nervous existence. The multi-instrumentalist singer (he plays a long-necked Stratocaster, a tailored Les Paul 1968 and his favourite: an acoustic Kinkade 1978 on the disc) is aided by drummer Dean Pearson, aka Denzel and Toshi Ogawa on bass (The Wildhearts). This EP absorbs and assimilates the most satisfying examples of Alt, Psychedelic and Prog Rock: the voodoo electric-energy of Hendrix, the genial sexuality of D'Angelo, the colourful extravagance of Prince and the guitar horniness of Mick Ronson. All this is velvet-wrapped in the type of flamboyant narcissism that Freddie Mercury would never be afraid to exploit.

Second Coming At Troubadour Tonight 27/9/18

If indeed Greta Van Fleet were heralded as the second coming of Led Zeppelin, then what we didn't expect at the O2 Academy, Islington, earlier in April this year, was the second coming of The Rolling Stones in the guise of London's very own, and aptly named, The Second Sons. It was all a thoroughably enjoyable night of great live retro music and you can check them out at London's historic Troubadour in Earls Court tonight supported by Tangerine Rye.

Black Heart Gig Review 26/9/18

"Three more newbies followed from 'Pills' - 'Unnaturally Charming', with a great opening riff and its slide guitar, all about a seriously disturbed individual - think "Dexter", said the American lady standing to the left of me, and then from psychopath to sociopath, the equally disturbing lyrics, but brilliant Rock n' Roll of 'Oops Sorry', and then finally, to complete the morbid trio, the brilliant guitar shuffle of 'The Saturday Night Desperation Shuffle’ - "for all the over 40's in the audience". As we said at Ramblin' Man - it’s nice when you are made to feel special, although if it's any consolation, at least this time he didn't dedicate it to all the ugly ones in the audience! Anyway, it was now time to feel 'Insanely Happy', and this Reggae track from his 2012 album 'The World Explained' certainly did what it said on the tin!"

Today read the whole of AJ's Big Boy Bloater & The LiMiTs (Video Of The Day) and Jack J. Hutchinson The Black Heart, Camden, review from last Wednesday night here plus check out our Photo Gallery here.

Vicious Rumors 26/9/18

Vicious Rumors, who stand as one of the longest running, most prolific US Power Metal Bands in history, are touring Europe in April 2019. With their latest line-up of Geoff Thorpe - guitar, Gunnar Dügrey - guitar, Cody Green - bass, Nick Courtney - lead vocals and Larry Howe - drums, the band  is halfway through a massive 45 date US/Canadian Tour in support of the 30th Anniversary of 'Digital Dictator'. The band have also  just released a special edition DVD titled '40th Anniversary-Live in Germany' - the DVD of last year's crushing show at the Bang Your Head Festival in Germany.

Seventh Wonder 25/9/18

Swedish Prog Metal giants Seventh Wonder (today's Video Of The Day) release their fifth studio album,‘Tiara’, on Friday 12th October, their first new record in eight years. Seventh Wonder was formed in 2000 by bassist Andreas Blomqvist, guitarist Johan Liefvendahl and drummer Johnny Sandin, with keyboard player Andreas ‘Kyrt’ Söderin added late that year. Vocalist Tommy Karevik joined in 2005, after the recording but just prior to the release of the band’s debut album, ‘Become’. Karevik made his studio bow with 2007’s well received ‘Waiting In The Wings’, which was promoted via a lengthy tour on which the band shared stages with the likes of Queensryche, Testament and Redemption. ‘Mercy Falls’ (2008) and ‘The Great Escape (2010) saw the group tour the US as well as Europe, with Stefan Norgren replacing Johnny Sandin on drums.

Prog Power At The Elbow 24/9/18

If you needed affirmation as to why IT (pictured) walked away with our 2017 WRC Best Prog Performance award, then hopefully you were at Camden's The Fiddler's Elbow in London last night to see a great gig of live Prog music. Thanks to headliner's Hat's Off Gentleman It's Adequate, they presented a Prog Night which also featured support from The  Wood Demons (pictured).  Anyway, with a Photo Gallery to come, please check out today's Video Of The Day.

Kris Barras 100 Up Tonight 24/9/18

"The Torquay 4 piece produce some excellent swampy Blues Rock that really made them stand out from the crowd. Barras sports an oilcan/junkbox guitar for some excellent slide guitar before switching back to his trusty strat for regular Blues rocking. Piano/keys from Josiah Manning bring a melodic accompaniment to the great groove. They were hugely appreciated by the large crowd lapping up the sun, and the excellent beers." That was the last time we caught the Kris Barras Band at Ramblin' Man Fair in July and Kris is still on the road, stopping off at London's iconic 100 Club tonight.

Moving On CD Review 23/9/18

"With the Mission currently on a break, this is a welcome collection of Simon’s songs spanning those years living in the back of beyond.  "Every time I come back to making music I’m reminded why I started doing it in the first place” Hinkler says.  This is not the Mission, but it has enough echoes to remind me of that legacy whilst remaining a substantial successful solo piece of work from one of my all-time favourite guitarists."

Today read Chris Bourlet's complete take here on Mission guitarist Simon Hinkler's new 'Moving On' EP,  which was released earlier this month, of which one of the tracks 'It Isn't You' is today's Video Of The Day.

Fiddler's Elbow Prog Tonight 23/9/18

"The Floyd influence on both the intro and outro of new single 'House', sandwiched the apt Halloween chorus of "Like a ghost in this house" before the guys rounded off their take from 'WAITT' with another cracker 'Revolution', with its heavy riff and 'Timewarpish' chorus. Brilliant. And in one of those - 'you couldn't make it up moments' - their finale was taken from their previous 'Departure'  album, namely the driving 'God Is Dead' - just as two of our friends arrived - one of which was a Catholic priest who had just returned from Sunday Mass! All I can say is that the Gods are currently with IT. What a set." That was our take on 2017 WRC Best Prog Performance winners IT at Balham's Progtoberfest last October (pictured) and the guys are back in London tonight at Prog Night at Camden's Fiddler's Elbow sandwiched in between headliner's Hat's Off Gentleman It's Adequate and The Wood Demons.

Becoming A Primitive Evolution 23/9/18

Recorded at Desolation Studios in Toronto, A Primitive Evolution's (A.P.E.) new album, 'Becoming' is due to be released on Friday 5th October and features collaborations with writer/producer Ian D’Sa (Billy Talent) and Audio Engineer Kenny Luong (Metric). Raw & visceral with soul & beauty, A Primitive Evolution is best consumed live and/or at extremely loud volumes as testified by the title track which is today's Track Of The Day. In 2015 the band received the award for “Best Rock Band” from the Toronto Independent Music Awards & since then has been working tirelessly on its new album. Pulling together a complex array of influences including Nine Inch Nails, The Cure, Tool, The Prodigy, Ministry, Radiohead, Alice in Chains, Vivaldi, Guns n’ Roses & more, A.P.E.'s rhythm-based attack blurs the lines of rock, electronica & all dark electronic metal aspects between.

Camel Royal Albert Hall Review 22/9/18

"The band have had and tragically lost some fine keyboard players but by the end of ‘Song Within A Song’ you already knew that the new addition to the band, the young Pete Jones on keyboards but also vocals (and later saxophone), was considerably enhancing the overall sound of the band. Andrew Latimer, the only remaining original member and driving force behind the band admits that vocals have perhaps not been their main strength, but Jones actually sounds like he’s got Camel’s own DNA in his genes."

Airrace Touch Down In London Tonight 22/9/18

Airrace began their nine date UK tour in Cardiff last night to promote their new album ‘Untold Stories’, which was released last month and has been praised for its songwriting and wide-ranging stylistic approach. And the band land at Camden's The Underworld in London tonight, pairing up with Frontiers labelmates The Treatment, with support from Tequila Mockingbyrd. Founded by Laurie Mansworth, Airrace is recognised as one of the UK’s pioneering AOR acts. Following the acclaimed 1984 release of their debut album, ’Shaft Of Light’, the band supported rock titans such as Queen, AC/DC and Meat Loaf, but they had crash-landed by the Summer of 1985. It took a 25th anniversary reissue of the record to reunite the group, and they eventually issued a second album, ‘Back To The Start’, via Frontiers in 2011.

Love And Pain 22/9/18

Doyle Bramhall II will be releasing his brand new album ‘Shades’ on Friday 5th October via Provogue/Mascot Label Group. The album features appearances by Eric Clapton, Norah Jones, Greyhounds and Tedeschi Trucks Band. Bramhall has spent over a decade as Eric Clapton’s musical right-hand man, collaborating both in the studio and on stage as well working with Norah Jones for a number of years. He played guitar and sang both lead and backup vocals during Roger Waters’ 1999-2000 'In the Flesh' world tour. He has worked with a number of artists including T-Bone Burnett, Elton John and Gregg Allman. Ahead of this he has revealed his new song ‘Love And Pain’ which is today's Track Of The Day.

Sari Schorr/Mike Vernon Borderline Review 21/9/18

"A couple of brilliantly well-crafted and stand out songs from the new 'Never Say Never' album, ‘King Of Rock And Roll’ and ‘Thank You’, thundered in with total conviction and were performed with pure adrenalised energy and fervent passion. Volcanic vocals erupted and poured from Sari like molten lava! Spell binding stuff! It is plain to see that Schorr is at one with the music, inhabiting every song. It is also abundantly clear that she means every word she sings, her honest and sincere delivery exemplifies this."

Today read the whole of Steven C. Gilbert's Sari Schorr (Video Of The Day) and Mike Vernon & The Mighty Combo London Borderline review from last Friday night here.

Black Heart Photo Gallery 21/9/18

On Wednesday night Big Boy Bloater and The LiMiTs walked on to Camden's Black Heart stage in London to the strains of 'Blake's 7' (yes really) and departed seventeen wonderful songs later, leaving his audience (as per the name of his Reggae track from his 2012 album 'The World Explained') feeling 'Insanely Happy'. It was not only a night of great music, but also one, not unexpectedly, of great belly laughs as well. Anyway, with an interview and a review to come, have a gander at our Photo Gallery here which also includes Bloater's special guest Jack J. Hutchinson.

B. & The Blues Shacks and many more.

Keep Taking The Pills 20/9/18

Halfway through their current 'Pills' UK tour - Big Bloater and The LiMiTs certainly delivered their meds at a packed and appreciative Black Heart in London's Camden last night. Supported by his old mucker Jack J. Hutchinson, Bloater's trio including Matt Cowley (drums) and Steven Oates (bass) are on the road from September to October, following the release of their latest critically  acclaimed album ‘Pills’ in June. We were also lucky enough to grab a few words with the big man before his set. So with that interview, a photo gallery and a review to come - in the meantime check out today's Video Of The Day.

Cut The Cake 20/9/18

Mother’s Cake commenced a fifty date European tour in Germany last week and tonight they begin their UK leg at London's The Underworld in Camden. Formed in 2008, Mother’s Cake released their third album ’No Rhyme No Reason’ in 2017. Songs such as ‘The Killer’, ‘Black Roses’ and ’The Sun’ melded an explosive alliance of Psych, Indie and Blues Rock, while lengthier sonic excursions such as ’Streetja Man’, ‘Enemy’ and ‘H8'delved deeper with elements of Progressive and Space Rock mixed into compelling sound palettes. Sometimes compared to the likes of The Mars Volta and Jane’s Addiction, the group have also developed into a phenomenal live prospect. Extensive touring as a headline act in Austria, Germany and Switzerland, coupled with support slots further afield with AC/DC, Iggy Pop, Deftones, Wolfmother, Anathema, Pentagram and Omar Rodriguez Lopez Group, has left audiences attesting to the raw, pure energy transmitted by the band.

Bob and Jules are back, after taking in Sheffield's HRH Crows last week, with a brand new Rock On The Ridge Podcast Track Of The Day featuring The Wild, Gorilla Riot (pictured), Federal Charm, Western Sand, Buffalo Summer, Broken Witt Rebels, StoneWire, The Outlaw Orchestra, Monster Truck, The Bad Flowers, Bad Touch, The Vintage Caravan, Junkyard Drive, The Sword, Rival Sons, Fish, Noel Gallagher and on their introducing stage, two in a row from Mississippi Riot.

Big Boy Bloater's Black Heart 19/9/18

"This big fella has some fine chops, as well as a history of session guitar playing in his bag of tricks, that showcases why he is a regular at festivals as well as across the gamut of Blues playing radio stations. Currently touring his new album ‘Pills’, Bloater had also performed a small acoustic set to the VIP tent the previous day which raised a number of smiles. Dedicating his song ‘The Saturday Night Desperation Shuffle’ to all the ugly ones in the audience, he endeared himself to all. It’s nice when you are made to feel special." That was part of our take on Big Boy Bloater & The LiMiTs Ramblin' Man Fair set in July, and as part of his current 'Pills' tour - the big man stops off at Camden's The Black Heart in London tonight.

Kadavar - Live In Copenhagen 19/9/18

Martin Barre Interview 18/9/18

We were privileged enough to interview Martin Barre in London's West End last Monday. Best known as guitarist in Jethro Tull - one of the biggest selling Prog bands of all time - Martin releases his new solo album 'Roads Less Travelled' on Garage Records on Friday 5th October 2018. Barre has developed his own distinctive style within the framework of Jethro Tull, and his instantly recognizable and original sound form the basis of this album. 'Roads Less Travelled' features 11 original tracks by Barre, which reflect the last 50 years of his esteemed musical career. While all the songs showcase his exceptional electric guitar, acoustic guitar and mandolin playing, the Martin Barre Band also shine throughout. A long-time resident of Devon, Barre’'s band features several local musicians including Dan Crisp (vocals), Alan Thompson (bass/fretless bass), Darby Todd (drums), Becca Langsford (vocals/backing vocals), Josiah J (percussion/hammond), Aaron Graham (drums), Alex Hart (vocals/backing vocals) and Buster Cottam (“stand up” bass). Anyway, have a listen to today's Track Of The Day!

Walking Papers Borderline Tonight 18/9/18

Walking Papers seven UK shows culminates with a gig at The Borderline in London tonight before they embark on their European leg at Tilburg's O13 in the Netherlands tomorrow. The band upped the sonic ante with their aptly dubbed second album 'WP2', released earlier this year from Loud & Proud Records. Today's Video Of The Day - 'This Is How It Ends', also serves as the title of a comic book of the same name, created by Walking Papers’ Jeff Angell, graphic novelist Matt Hayward and artist Csaba Master. The clip features a collage of panels from the aforementioned graphic novel, giving a true visual representation of the music.

Dynazty's Firesign 18/9/18

If you consider who is on the list of "Pioneering Bands of Hard Sounds" you cannot help wondering what theScandinavians mix into their mother's milk, given that the musicians from the North of Europe seemingly occupy two thirds off this ranking. And Dynazty from Stockholm are no exception. Their sixth album, 'Firesign', which will be released next Friday 28th September on AFM Records, is, according to the band's plan, getting away from the total brickwall, trying to sound slightly more organic, both production and songwriting wise. With 'Firesign', Dynazty brings a bunch of hits to the party and definitely put themselves forward as worthy candidates for the top places in the Big League of Melodic Metal.

Vital Idol: Revitalized 17/9/18

Billy Idol’'s 1980’'s remix collection, 'Vital Idol', is getting a modern-day upgrade with 'Vital Idol: Revitalized', set for release on CD and digital by EMI/UMC on Friday 28th September. More than 30 years after his groundbreaking 'Vital Idol' compilation cemented the vibrancy of the Dance-Rock remix genre in the second half of the 1980’'s, Idol’'s Revitalized collection features 11 brand-new remixes of his most classic and enduring hits. 'Vital Idol', initially released in 1985, was the first remix record released by a Rock superstar. Besides being certified platinum, 'Vital Idol' was accompanied by a version of “'Mony Mony”' that reached No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 Singles chart, as well as hitting the Top 10 on the UK Singles chart. Lending their hands to the Revitalized proceedings are electronic dance luminaries Moby, Paul Oakenfold and The Crystal Method as well as current innovators including Tropkillaz, Shiba San, Juan Maclean, CRAY and RAC.

Today, check out our Video Of The Day, the band's follow up single ‘Hear Me Now’ featuring Diamante.

Jawbone Borderline Gig Review 16/9/18

"Jawbone’s album has been in gestation for quite some months and we get ALL of it tonight. Every song. And it’s a treat. They kick off with 'Leave No Traces' - the first song on the album and that sets the formula of Paddy’s sweet call and Marcus’s gravelly response. Half a dozen songs in and you’re thinking to yourself - wow, this band reminds me of Little Feat and The Band. And just to prove that point, Jawbone pull off stonking covers of 'Willin’ and 'Rag Mama Rag'. Everyone in the room is a fan now."

Forum Photo Gallery 16/9/18

Last Friday night, London's O2 Forum in Kentish Town welcomed headliners The Quireboys to the stage for one night only - a Rock band who work hard, play hard and keep alive the spirit of good time Rock ‘n’ Roll. Celebrating a decade since the release of their album, 'Homewreckers & Heartbreakers', they played this beast of an album in its entirety, with some classics from their career spanning over 30 years too. Featuring Spike (vocals), Guy Griffin (guitar), Keith Weir (keyboards), Paul Guerin (guitar), Dave McCluskey (drums) and Nick Malling (bass) plus special guest performances from H.E.A.T, Aaron Buchanan & The Cult Classics and Those Damn Crows - check out our Photo Gallery from the gig here

Pretty Boy Floyd Underworld Tonight 16/9/18

Pretty Boy Floyd complete their UK tour at Camden's The Underworld tonight and today's Track Of The Day is taken from their 2017 album ‘Public Enemies’. Exactly the sort of record you would expect from these seasoned veterans of The Sunset Strip, it is a fun record to be played at maximum volume. They chose the name Pretty Boy Floyd because it seemed to describe them - four tough teens armed with guitar licks and angst setting out to conquer the world. As the new millennium rolled in, a generation of young fans who weren’t even born when the band first emerged began to wonder what they had missed out on back in the Sleaze Rock heyday of the late 80's and early 90's. Original and new fans alike found common ground - a love of the band’s music, sleazy shows and fun times. Never mind the critics, or what trends may have come and gone, Pretty Boy Floyd continue to record and tour, winning new converts both  young and old.

Homewreckers & Heartbreakers 15/9/18

Today's Video Of The Day features The Quireboys who we caught live at their Homewreckers & Heartbreakers 10th Anniversary show at London's The Forum last night. With a sound that harks back to the 70's heyday of The Faces, Stones, Slade and Mott The Hoople, The Quireboys have always remained true to their roots from the start. And their mission to simply keep the spirit of good time Rock ‘n’ Roll alive and kicking into the 21st century was well and truly achieved last night. Excellently supported by Those Damn Crows, Aaron Buchanan & The Cult Classics (pictured) and H.E.A.T. - watch out for our Photo Gallery tomorrow.

Tattooed On My Brain 15/9/18

Celebrating their 50th Anniversary as a band in 2018, Nazareth is marking the occasion with a Hard Rocking new album, “'Tattooed On My Brain'” (see today's Track Of The Day), scheduled for release on Frontiers Music srl on Friday 12th October. 'Tattooed On My Brain' is their 24th full length album, the band originally breaking through to a larger audience when, after supporting Deep Purple on tour, they released the Roger Glover-produced “'Razamanaz”' album in early 1973. A string of hit records including “'Loud 'N’ Proud”', “'Rampant”', and their biggest success 'Hair of the Dog' (featuring the smash hits 'Hair Of The Dog' and 'Love Hurts') followed, cementing the band's legacy in the history of Hard Rock. Nazareth continued on throughout the 80's and 90's, making new studio albums and touring the world. In 2014, original singer Dan McCafferty had to leave the band for health reasons and with his blessing, Carl Sentance is now fronting the legendary band. Rejuvenated and as energetic as ever, Nazareth is back with an album that firmly shows their roots, but also sees the band progressing forward and seeing the future. These songs are infectious, hooky and instantly memorable....just as you'd expect from Nazareth!

Tonight's A Schorr Thing 14/9/18

"The New Revolution’ opens with a tasty ‘Faces’ style guitar groove and solid snare drum action before strong muscular vocals enter the fray! Notable Hammond embellishment giving it that authentic Faces sound. This song was written in honour of Martin Luther King, Jr. “Stand up for righteousness. Stand up for justice. Stand up for the truth.”  Profound statements if ever there was!" That was part of our recent take here on Sari Schorr's latest CD 'Never Say Never' and Sari's album launch, supported by Mike Vernon & The Mighty Combo, takes place at London's The Borderline tonight.

New Ben Poole CD Out Today 14/9/18

"The music itself is top quality from the start and I’m sure everyone may pick different tracks as their own personal favourites; the guitar solos usually choose mine for me, so ‘Found Out The Hard Way’ probably edges the vote, although the closing pair of ‘Let Me Be’ and ‘Holding On’ (the latter apparently influenced by Hendrix’s ‘Manic Depression’) run it mighty close." That was part our recent Ben Poole 'Anytime You Need Me' CD review here and Ben's album is finally released on Manhaton Records today. Also check out today's Video Of The Day.

Hailing from Brisbane/Gold Coast, their debut album is brimming with hooky riffs and alluring smoky vocals. Recorded at Loose Stone Studios with Matthew Bartlem (Matt Corby, Dead Letter Circus) in the producer’s chair, it perfectly encapsulates the bands heavy hitting, but versatile sound. Softer tracks like 'Baby Let Me Go' showcase the band’s ability to go from chugging riffs of 'One Night' to a song led by Tasha D’s huge vocal range layered with strings and a delicate acoustic guitar. Combine all this with a stack of shows impressing audiences with the likes of Wolfmother, Thunder, Seether, Hardcore Superstar, Fuel, Everclear, P.O.D., Cherie Currie (The Runaways) and more, Smoking Martha continues to grow their fanbase and the potency of an intense reputation as one of Australia's must see Rock bands live in the UK this November.

Joe Bonamassa's Redemption Review 12/9/18

"The influences of last year’s excellent fourth album from Black Country Communion can be clearly heard on ‘Molly O’. The tale of a sinking ship and its fatalities, including the title character, with “her suitcase full of redemption”, It could almost be described as a Rocky/Blues sea shanty. From the waves and creaking ship intro through to its heavy riff and storming solo, this story driven song is an early highlight and should be placed firmly in the “Must Hear Live” file."

Today read Phil C's complete take here on Joe Bonamassa's new 'Redemption' CD which is due to be released on Friday 21st September plus check out our Video Of The Day.

Bad Touch CD Review 10/9/18

"The following track ‘Hammer Falls’ has a more of a Bluesy feel and the subsequent ‘Too Many Times’ is rightly described as a real foot stomper with a great inclusive chorus that keeps the blood pumping.  A real good party dance song follows with ‘Dressed To Kill’ which has that beat that you just can’t sit still to with awesome guitar riffs and rhythm. This song rejoices that moment when you’re out to party and dressed to kill, feeling an invincible attitude that makes you boundless with the beat and able to dance great to no matter what!"

The Human Race Extinction 9/9/18

Progressive Power Metal band Ethernity (Video Of The Day) release their sophomore album 'The Human Race Extinction' this Friday 14th September. Again the band secured the services of highly acclaimed DGM guitarist Simone Mularoni for mix and mastering. The result is a powerful, heavy and strong album, which doesn’t lack melody. Ethernity's already excellent songwriting has matured and reaches a new level with this new piece of work, delivering an apocalyptic concept story. At the same time, all fourteen tracks can stand on their own perfectly, showing a more modern twist to their sound and songwriting, which reminds of greats such as Symphony X and Evergrey at times, reflecting the familiarity and chemistry in the band. Also, the voice of Ethernity, Julie Colin, brings a different kind of female vocals to the table - her raspy and powerful voice adds a special flavour to the band’s sound. There’s much more to come from this highly talented band, be sure about that!

Introducing ..... Triple J Trio 8/9/18

We were recently privileged to be contacted by ex-Status Quo drummer Jeff Rich - hence our latest 'Introducing...' feature today. In For A Penny Tonight ... 8/9/18

"Seager's 'Losing Streak', would you believe about drink and women, closes out the album, with it's cajun feel, its message being that you’re just looking for a peaceful life, but you find yourself up the creek without a paddle! Well, come on, this is the Blues! All in all, a delightful eclectic mix of Blues with not only great lyrics, but more importantly, an album that has the vibe of a live band with some killer tracks that will go down a storm at any gig - particularly their drinking songs! You know what they say - go on - in for a penny, in for a pound!" That was part of our recent Bad Pennies 'Songs From The Medway Delta' CD review and the guys are playing in their very own home County at The Iron Horse, Sidcup, tonight.

Joey Landreth Borderline Tonight 6/9/18

"On most songs vocalist and lead guitarist Joey Landreth is supported by elder brother David on bass, with additional support from drums and keyboard.  When required, this support provides a swirling organ, funky bass rhythms and pounding drums but, at one point, the other musicians left Joey alone on stage to sing 'Lost in Snow', a quiet, poignant song dedicated to David’s seriously ill fiancee.  When they returned, it wasn’t to pick up their instruments, but to provide a chorus for Joey’s romantic and emotional 'Greenhouse'." That was part of our The Bros. Landreth review way back at The Garage, Highbury in London in March 2016 (pictured) - and Joey Landreth (Video Of The Day) is back on the road on his own tonight at London's The Borderline.

Pretty Things In Twickenham 6/9/18

The Pretty Things have been at the heart of the UK Rhythm & Blues scene for over 50 years and 2018 will be their final tour. The band then moved from Rhythm and Blues through Psychedalia, their famous Rock opera, 'S.F. Sorrow', and Heavy Metal - then back to the music that made them famous - Rhythm and Blues. Doors open at 8pm with music starting at 8.30pm with guitarist/vocalist, Sam Brothers.

Failed Magician CD Review 5/9/18

"‘Mary Lous Dawg’ and ‘Working for Mary Jane’ are both good tracks musically, very well played with good vocals - as one would expect from such brilliant musicians. ‘Thrown To The Wolves’ is pure Rock - the heaviest track on the album, with a good riff that draws you into the music and a great track to finish the first CD on. The second CD is an acoustic version of the first CD where Spiby has taken it all back to guitar and vocals and pulled off a triumphant contrast. My favourite track is ‘Thrown To The Blues’, but hey, at the end of the day they are all good, and complement the first CD perfectly. A really good double album, although, if pressed, I preferred the acoustic sounds on the second CD compared to the Heavier Rock and Blues sound on the first CD. But, all in all, still a perfect match."

Today read Brent Gregory's complete take here on former Black Spiders frontman Pete Spiby's new 'Failed Magician' double album which was released at the end of last month.

L. A. Guns/Jared James Nichols/Stone Trigger Review 4/9/18

"A break in the set sees Jared James Nichols return to the stage, this time with a full fat Gibbo around his neck. The resulting jam was a master of Blues Rock, with JJN towering over the relatively diminutive Guns, trading licks with all the joy of the great masters and prodigies. Spine tingling stuff. Penultimate track 'The Ballad of Jayne' sees a slower lament with Guns playing some excellent solo work whilst Lewis again conducts a heartfelt singalong. Closing track is, in contrast, the angry 'Rip and Tear' which ("My name is Phillip") Lewis uses to introduce the band and bid adieu to our hearing as they sign off with a bang."

Today read the whole of Mother's L. A. Guns, Jared James Nichols (Video Of The Day) and Stone Trigger O2 Academy Islington review from Friday night here, plus check out our Photo Gallery here.

10 Years In The Underworld 4/9/18

Knoxville, Tennessee rockers 10 Years return to the UK tonight at London's The Underworld for the first time since their appearance at Download Festival in 2006, for a September tour that takes in six gigs following the release of their latest album '(how to live) As Ghosts', which was released in October last year on Mascot Records. 10 Years welcome back former members Brian Vodinh (guitar/drums) and Matt Wantland (guitar) alongside Chad Huff (bass), Kyle Mayer (drums) and Jesse Hasek (vocals), with the band’s eighth studio album being produced by the Grammy Award winning Nick Raskulinecz (Alice in Chains, Foo Fighters, Deftones, KoRn, Mastodon). Following a fantastic Canadian tour with Shinedown and In This Moment earlier this year, 10 Years continue to power through the open road including US shows with Breaking Benjamin, A Perfect Circle, Stone Temple Pilots, Black Stone Cherry, Fozzy, Popevil, Seether, Nonpoint, Butcher Babies and more as well as festival appearances at Rock on the Range, Northern Invasion and Rockfest - so the UK can expect an explosive show!

Sari Schorr CD Review 3/9/18

"The last track on the album is the brilliant Ian McLagan cover ‘Never Say Never’ - McLagan wrote this song after his wife's tragic death in 2006. Writing the song was part of his healing process. Sadly McLagan passed away in 2014 due to complications after suffering a stroke, he was sixty-nine years old. This is a truly beautiful song with an ocean of emotion pouring from each and every word. A sensational and arresting performance from Sari, simply breath-taking! She definitely does the song proud. I am certain Ian would approve."

Today read Steven C. Gilbert's complete take here on Sari Schorr's new CD 'Never Say Never' due to be released on Friday 5th October.

We All Feel The Same 3/9/18

Today's Video Of The Day 'We All Feel The Same' is by certified LA guitar legend Michael Landau from his album 'Rock Bottom' released via Mascot Label Group/Provogue earlier this year. 'Rock Bottom' sounds like it left the Morrison Hotel in 1970, got lost in Laurel Canyon, and finally found its way out onto Ventura Boulevard in 2017. It suggests Joni Mitchell’s heady brew of imagery laden words and mystical melodies as easily as it evokes Hendrix, Arthur Lee, Love’s 'Forever Changes' and Buffalo Springfield. It is, however, above all, an album with a singular voice of its own. Have you ever been experienced? Well, this album will get you where you’re going!

Alice In Chains Never Fade 2/9/18

‘Never Fade’ (today's Track Of The Day) was the third track from Alice In Chains recent 'Rainier Fog' album to be released, following ‘So Far Under’ and  ‘The One You Know’. Recorded with producer Nick Raskulinecz (his third consecutive album with the band) and mixed by Joe Barresi (Queens of the Stone Age, Tool), Alice In Chains (vocalist/guitarist Jerry Cantrell, vocalist/guitarist William DuVall, drummer Sean Kinney and bassist Mike Inez) also recently added a third leg to their worldwide headlining tour. 'Rainier Fog' follows 2013’s Grammy nominated 'The Devil Put Dinosaurs Here', which entered Billboard’s Top 200 chart at No. 2 and debuted at No. 1 on Billboard’s Alternative Albums, Top Rock Albums, Hard Rock Albums charts and the iTunes Rock Album Chart. Its first two singles, ‘Stone’ and ‘Hollow’, both shot to No. 1 on Billboard’s Mainstream Rock Tracks chart and ‘Voices’ hit No. 3. All three tracks stayed on the chart for over 20 weeks!

Jetboy Underworld Tonight 2/9/18

Founded in 1983 by guitarists Billy Rowe and Fernie Rod, Jetboy touch down at London's The Underworld in Camden tonight to perform their brand of Rock ’n Roll in the 21st century with the same passion that has existed since the very beginning, as exemplified by today's Video Of The Day for the title track of their new album ‘Born To Fly’, which will be released in January 2019. The new album, made by the core Jetboy trio of Rowe, Rod and Finn together with Faster Pussycat bassist Eric Stacy and drummer Al Serrato, is the first full length record by the band since 1990. A blend of edgy Rock ’n Roll with a traditional Blues influence, it is the perfect vehicle to exploit the commanding style of the band’s classic sound. ‘Born To Fly’ is a fine Rock record by any measure, with hints of the band’s 70’s influences and 80’s sound, while adding three plus decades of experience to the grooves. Jetboy is ready to fly again.
