Electric Airbourne 30/11/16

Australian Hard Rock band Airbourne were formed in late 2003 by the O'Keefe brothers and were soon joined by rhythm guitarist David Roads, with their debut album ‘Running Wild’ arriving in 2007. It's a fact that the band are more popular in Europe than their homeland where obviously AC/DC rule the roost in crunchy rock which unfortunately is a problem. We first caught them at Ramblin' Man this year where the size of their following was impressive. So how did the second of their two consecutive nights at Camden's Electric Ballroom in London last night pan out given that they were supported by Central Pennsylvania-based rockers and WRC favourites Crobot following the release of  their new album 'Welcome To Fat City'? With more photos and a review to come - check out today's Vid Of The Day prematurely curtailed by the mosh pit!

Cardinal Curse 30/11/16

Eden’s Curse continued their Cardinal Tour at London's Underworld in Camden on Sunday night and Big Ian and his mate Geoff were duly there covering the gig for the WRC.  A Multinational Melodic Metal band who tend to turn those guitars up freaking loud and rock out old school style - check out our photo gallery here including support band C.O.P. UK - with a review and a Vid Of The Day to come!

Transit Blues 30/11/16

To support the release of their brand new album ‘Transit Blues’, The Devil Wears Prada consisting of Hranica on vocals, Jeremy DePoyster on guitar/vocals, Andy Trick on bass and Kyle Sipress on guitar, also joined by Giuseppe Capolupo on drums and Jonathan Gering on keyboards - kicked off their co-headline “The Rise Up Tour” with Memphis May Fire and Silverstein in Norwich last night. It's the band's first full UK outing since October 2013 and tonight they are at London's Koko where tickets are still on sale for £17.  Anyway, check out today's Track Of The Day 'To The Key Of Evergreen'.

Breakin Outta Hell 29/11/16

"Airbourne certainly raised the energy levels though with crowd pleasers such as ‘Live It Up’, ‘Running Wild’ and new song ‘Breakin Outta Hell’ from the album of the same name to be released in September. Joel O'Keefe's bashing of cheap cans of lager on his head, his regular rig climb up and down and crowd invasion during ‘Girls In Black’ went down well too. It would be easy to be cynical about Airbourne. Yes it is unashamedly gruff and primal Rock'n'Roll, but it is the ageless and tireless uniformity of the band's approach that makes this an  honest and brazen delight. Huge, macho riffs collide with gleefully lobotomised tales of booze, chicks and the noble art of kicking ass always come with a giant, instantly memorable chorus attached. Let there be more rock, basically. Perfect festival performers...!"

That was our take on Airbourne (pictured) at this year's Ramblin Man and we are off to see them at Camden's Electric Ballroom tonight supported by the mighty Crobot!

King King Assembly 29/11/16

King King headline the Islington Assembly Hall tonight with special guests Broken Witt Rebels (pictured) who hit the stage at 7.20pm for a 40-minute set, followed by King King at 8.30pm for a 2-hour set. King King recently won five British Blues Awards including Best Album (Reaching For The Light) , Best Male Vocalist, Best Bass Player, Best Song (Rush Hour) and Best Songwriter.  The band recently released King King Live; a triple disc live concert. Meanwhile Broken Witt  Rebels (Vid Of The Day) recently won “Best Rock Act” at the first ever Unsigned Music Awards at London’s Troxy.

Silver City 28/11/16

Classic Hard Rockers The Jokers recently released their brand new single ‘Silver City’ with B/side 'Summer Time', taken from their highly-acclaimed third album, ‘Hurricane’ on Steamhammer / SPV. ‘Silver City’ was recorded at Liverpool’s Parr Street Studios, where it was produced, engineered and mixed by Tom Size (Aerosmith, David Lee Roth, Journey, Steve Miller Band, Huey Lewis, Mr. Big) at the Tomland Studios, San Francisco. 'Silver City' is a power-driven, hypnotic, sing-a-long rock tune with an infectious chorus and a groove you can't help but move to. The Jokers are Wane Parry on lead vocals, Paul Hurst on lead guitar, Phil Hartley on bass and Dan Evans on drums. After opening for Status Quo at Parc Y Scarlets Stadium in late August, The Jokers are finishing up their UK tour on Saturday 3rd December at The Brew, Warrington and Saturday 10th December at The E Rooms, Skelmersdale.

Well the big day has finally arrived - Wrinklystock V with our 'Monsters Of Irish Rock' at the Mick Jagger Centre, Dartford, tonight, which sees headliners Limehouse Lizzy continue to keep the spirit of Thin Lizzy alive. As of last night, we had just 5 tickets unsold, so you still might be lucky to get one of the remaining tickets -  if you're quick by calling the Box Office on 01322 291100. With special guests U2 Tribe auctioning off their setlist for our nominated charities plus a raffle and souvenir programmes on sale - it's going to be one hell of an evening! Accordingly, today we turn our Vid Of The Day clock back to Wrinklystock 2 - are you ready to rock?

Centred And One 26/11/16

"A Hard Rock sound that is progressive, with unusual timings, interesting chord changes and both soulful and djent sounds, this is a band that will make you sing and mosh in equal measure. As Chappers launches into tracks for their newly released ‘Centred and One’ EP, you can tell that he has worked hard training his voice to keep the power and melodic range but also temper it to last the course of the tour. The smiles on the bands faces as the crowd warms to the new material only grow larger as the small, but perfectly formed faithful do their best to form a mosh pit wall of death within the confines of the Borderlines bijou arena."

Where The Hart Was 25/11/16

All roads led to Beth Hart at The Royal Festival Hall in London last Wednesday night! Right now, the Grammy-nominated singer/songwriter is riding a creative tidal wave, firing out acclaimed albums, hooking up with the biggest names in music and rocking the house each night with that celebrated burnt-honey voice. Anyway have a gander today at our photo gallery here from the cheap seats!

Insanity 25/11/16

We first caught Lilith and the Knight at London's Borderline in May this year (pictured) and today they  release their ferocious debut EP ‘Insanity’ on Red Vixen Records. The EP is brimming with crisp riffs, taut songwriting and killer choruses so check out today's Track Of The Day!

Hart Of The Southbank 24/11/16

"This was the first time I had seen Beth Hart and was unsure whether I would really enjoy her performance, as having listened to material from three of her solo albums and her collaboration with Joe Bonamassa I remained to be convinced about her music – unlike my other half. From first to last this lady gave a powerhouse performance full of energy, and passion coupled with her truly amazing voice and stage presence she gave the audience a totally unforgettable evenings entertainment. Her awesome version of ‘Whole Lotta Love’ would, I believe, have impressed Mr. Plant himself and just when we thought it was all over Beth came out for a second encore and gave a heart rendering rendition of ‘My California’. Outstanding. I left the concert ‘singing’ the ladies’ praises and would definitely see her again. I’m convinced!"

That was John Bull's (not Mr. Rockrpix) take on Beth Hart four year's ago at London's Forum. We saw Beth again at London's Royal Festival Hall last night - so check out today's Vid Of The Day with more pics and a review to come.

Cherry On Top 24/11/16

There’s been some great feedback about Australian band Cherry Grind (Track Of The Day) since they played at Hard Rock Hell X recently. Their debut album 'A Room With A View' is the product of three years of writing and the culmination of ten years of doing the hard yards playing in Australia's infamous pub scene. This band is the new face of Rock 'N' Roll and alongside producer Bob Daisley (Blizzard of Ozz, Rainbow, Black Sabbath) Cherry Grind have created a truly original album for the modern audience. Subsequently A 'Room With A View' has garnered many positive reviews worldwide. Delivering dynamic, high energy live performances that leave the audience wanting more - their first UK tour ends this Friday 25th November at the Cavendish Arms in London.

Absolution's Quay Gig This Saturday 24/11/16

Absolution are just back from their mini European promo tour. The band did a week in Germany playing some club shows to great audiences, then played a few shows in the Netherlands with some live radio sessions including playing the legendary Countdown Cafe show on national radio to an audience of around 300,000 listeners! The guys are due to return to mainland Europe for more shows and festivals in 2017 and are playing one last UK show this year at The Quay Theatre in Sudbury, Suffolk this Saturday 26th November. Make sure you book now as the show is nearly sold out!

Hart Of The Matter 23/11/16

All roads lead to Beth Hart at The Royal Festival Hall in London tonight! Right now, the Grammy-nominated singer/songwriter is riding a creative tidal wave, firing out acclaimed albums, hooking up with the biggest names in music and rocking the house each night with that celebrated burnt-honey voice. Beth’s latest album, 'Fire On The Floor' sees this fiercely self-critical artist describe it as as “pretty frickin’ good”. In April 2015, she released 'Better Than Home': a critical and commercial smash that topped the iTunes Blues Chart and was crowned #4 Best Blues Album Of The Year by Mojo magazine. The release led her to fill Amsterdam’s Heineken Music Hall with 5,500 fans (her largest club show to date).

Electric Daisies 23/11/16

Riveting Hard Rockers The Dead Daisies complete the UK leg of their massive six-week joint-headline UK and European Tour with The Answer at London's Electric Ballroom tonight! Consisting of Doug Aldrich (Whitesnake, Dio), John Corabi (Mötley Crüe, The Scream), Marco Mendoza (Whitesnake, Thin Lizzy), Brian Tichy (Ozzy Osbourne, Foreigner) and David Lowy (Red Phoenix, Mink) - the guys released their captivating new single ‘A Song And A Prayer’ in early November on Spitfire Music / SPV - which is today's Vid Of The Day.

Just 14 Tickets Left For Wrinklystock V 22/11/16

The bad news is that there is no WRC Award winning Rock On The Ridge show this coming Saturday given that Bob & Jules are attending Wrinklystock V - of which there were only 14 tickets remaining as of last night! The good news is that today's Track Of The Day is last Saturday's ROTR show which featured Red Sky Mary, Inglorious (pictured), The Brew, Airbourne, Royal Blood, Dinosaur Pile Up, RavenEye, Scorpion Child, Blowback, Hand Of Dimes, Blacktop Mojo, The Virginmarys, Marcus Malone, Christopher Shayne, Rival Sons, Pearl Handled Revolver, Dead Letter Circus, Avenged Sevenfold and on their introducing stage Rusted Hero.

A Night At The Opera 21/11/16

From the U.K. come Glaswegian Hard Rockers Gun; also Syteria: the dynamic, female-fronted Rock band from South Yorkshire. Then, adding European flavour to the proceedings, are The New Roses: Germany's most exciting, successful new Rock act!

Hard Rock Hell 10 Review 18/11/16

"The idea of hosting a Rock festival on the inaccessible Welsh Northwest coast in November is, quite frankly, a ridiculous idea. But that is exactly what the team at Hard Rock Hell has been doing successfully for the last 10 years. This year’s anniversary event sold out its 6500 tickets almost before the last one was over. A hardy breed of rockers you might think? Not at all. The holiday camp hosting the event provides two large inside venues with well-stocked and staffed bars as well as smaller venues, assorted concessionaries and comfortable heated and dry accommodation. A far cry from Knebworth 1985 or this year’s Download."

Read the rest of Mother's Hard Rock Hell review from last weekend's festival here, check out our Vid Of The Day plus go to our updated photo gallery here.

Hardwired…To Self-Destruct 18/11/16

Unfortunately we missed out in the ballot to see Metallica performing a very intimate and exclusive London performance at London's House of Vans tonight. In an unprecedented move the band released music videos over the last two days for each song from their new album, 'Hardwired…To Self-Destruct' which is released today. The good news is that you can tune in here at 9pm (GMT) tonight to watch the live stream of the show. On the other hand if you want a live gig then head on down to Leo's Red Lion in Gravesend tonight to see Raveneye supported by the very impressive Wicked Stone (pictured) who we first saw at Ramblin' Man this year.

For 12 years the two would tour together, putting Ronnie out front with Eric Clapton, B.B. King, Buddy Guy and Koko Taylor. 'Times Have Changed', Brooks’ first album in ten years, due to be released on Friday 20th January 2017, carries with it the weight of grown perspective and time spent perfecting old material. Brooks worked it with Steve Jordan, whose work runs from Keith Richards to Stevie Wonder, John Mayer and Eric Clapton. A veritable who's who is guesting on the record, from Big Head Todd & The Monsters mainman Todd Mohr, R&B/Soul singers Bobby “Blue” Bland (one of the last recordings he made) and Angie Stone, legendary guitarists Steve Cropper (Stax, Booker T. & the MG's) and Eddie Willis (Motown, Funk Brothers), rapper Al Kapone, and of course Ronnie's father, Lonnie Brooks.

The track is taken from Hotei's debut UK release 'Strangers', which features an array of high profile guests as well as Iggy including Matt Tuck from Bullet For My Valentine, Richard Z. Kruspe from Rammstein and more. Best known for his song ‘Battle Without Honor Or Humanity’, instantly recognisable as the theme from Quentin Tarantino’s film Kill Bill, Hotei has played alongside The Rolling Stones, David Bowie and many more high profile artists across his career and is heralded by Time Out as “iconic”.

Flawless Carbon’s unique take on British Blues Rock; powerful, dedicated performance and professionalism, have them standing out from the crowd. Smells Like Trump Did It 13/11/16

Not only did The Simpsons correctly predict that Donald Trump would be President 16 years ago, but so did Kurt Cobain (Track Of The Day) in 1993! Our thanks to Wrinkly The Biker for passing on the following quote from the late Nirvana singer: "In the end I believe my generation will surprise everyone.  We already know that both political parties are playing both sides from the middle and we'll elect a true outsider when we fully mature.  I wouldn't be surprised if it's not a business tycoon who can't be bought and who does what's right for the people. Someone like Donald Trump as crazy as that sounds."

Currently he is writing his third album - the follow up to Four Berry Jam (today's Vid Of The Day) - with their distinctive, original, alternative Blues Rock sound. Of course WRC favourite John Verity needs no introduction - and both JV and Matt's band are playing the Bingley Arts Centre tonight. What great value for your money!

Blues Pills Review 9/11/16

"The keyboard intro on 'Lady In Gold' - the first and title track from their new CD - not only demonstrated a natural progression and welcome addition to Blues Pills arsenal, but also threw in an ingredient of soul as well as an immediate opportunity for Sorriaux to get in some early guitar chops and for Elin to demonstrate her vocal power and range. Despite the fact that the PA went down for about a minute on the second track from 'LIG' 'Little Boy Preacher' - Blues Pills prayers were answered as they manfully soldiered on thanks to Sorriaux's penetrating guitar riff and Kvarnström pounding drumming. Kvarnström's drum intro heralded the third track from the new album 'Bad Talkers' which showcased the rapport of Larsson's soulful voice and the 70's feel of Sorriaux's guitar, before melting into a fourth straight track from their new album - the groovy and upbeat 'Won't Go Back' - further reaffirming Blues Pills confidence in their new release. Former single 'Black Smoke' took us back to that wet July day last year - taken from their self titled debut album - the appeal of Sorriaux's weaving guitar still as hypnotising tonight as it was then."

Lady In Gold 7/11/16

We first saw up and coming multi-national rockers Blues Pills at Ramblin' Man Fair in July 2015 and last night we caught them again at London's Koko. Following the release this year of their much anticipated album 'Lady in Gold', the band's mix of Psychedelic, Blues and Hard Rock - featuring Zack Anderson (bass), André Kvarnström (drums), vocalist Elin Larsson and guitarist Dorian Sorriaux – transported us once again back to the halcyon ‘70’s! Anyway, check out today's Vid Of The Day with more pics and a review to come including support bands Kadavar and Stray Train.

Good Company 6/11/16

"Bad Company have so many better songs in their set besides the radio hits and ‘Electricland’ showed that with its moody verse and truly soaring chorus that highlighted Rodger’s effortless vocal range to perfection as he played piano from the back of the stage. This was spine-tingling stuff. ‘Burnin’ Sky’ showed the darker side of the band as the atmospherics were enhanced by some effective projections onto the huge video screens. There was no mid set lull to be seen with the following ‘Run With The Pack’ and the band also shone with their version of Mott the Hoople's ‘Ready For Love’ keeping the tempo running."

Blues Pills At Koko Tonite! 6/11/16

"However, everyone was in agreement that our first port of call would be the Classic Rock Stage to see Swedish rock band Blues Pills, featuring Zack Anderson (bass), André Kvarnström (drums), vocalist Elin Larsson and guitarist Dorian Sorriaux. Their 35 minute set kicked off with former single ‘High Class Woman’ – a former WRC Vid Of The Day – the power and range of Elin’s voice evident all throughout the set - the perfect foil for Dorian’s mix of Psychedelic, Blues and Hard Rock – transporting us back to the halcyon ‘70’s. Appropriately these guys have been on the Nuclear Blast label since 2013 and their set list included five more tracks: ‘Ain’t No Chance’, ‘No Hope Left For Me’, ‘Elements And Things’, ‘Little Sun’ and finished with another former single ‘Black Smoke’. The crowd had almost forgotten about the rain and wanted more. So many stages – so little time – but a very promising start to the day."

That was AJ's take on Blues Pills at Ramblin' Man last year and we're off to see them again tonight at London's Koko. Watch out for a Vid Of The Day, pics and a review over the coming days!

Also in the mix is birthday boy Sonny Rhodes!

Rich Kid Blues 5/11/16

"All the staples of a Terry show are present and correct; 'Seed Of Memory', 'To Be Treated Right', 'Without Expression', 'Raging Storm' and of course, 'Rich Kid Blues' interspersed with anecdotes of adventures on the road with various luminaries, Keith Richards being one (whom he caught up with recently at “Oldchella”) and a smuttering of covers, 'Time Slips Away' (Willie Nelson), 'Bend In The River' (Marty Robbins) and a fabulous version of 'Don’t Worry Baby' (Beach Boys)."

Superlungs 4/11/16

We caught Terry Reid, or 'Superlungs' as he’s affectionately known, at the Half Moon, Putney, last night - just over a week after he performed at 'An Evening For Jack'. We last saw Terry perform with his band at the same venue just over four years ago - carrying the reputation of one of the greatest Rock/Soul voices the UK has ever produced or is indeed likely to. Recently, Terry’s been working with up and coming French band Shine and The Alabama 3. Anyway four years down the line - and with a review and more pics to come - check out todays Vid Of The Day from last night's gig.

Resonate 4/11/16

"Given the fact that 'Heavy' was a released as a public taster on Youtube at the end of September - my only concern was whether the rest of the album would stand up to the subtlety, production and sound of this quality opener. Step forward 'My Town' which continued to carry 'Resonate's' torch with Pontus Enborg's pounding drum opening and a to die for driving guitar riff and solo from Andersen - the perfect vehicle for Hughes to flit between a soft and hard vocal. Guitar feedback heralded the arrival of 'Flow' with another stand out guitar/organ riff and another opportunity for Glenn to open his tonsils - although a common theme throughout 'Resonate' is the unexpected direction that some tracks take - on this occasion the delicate mid-section harmony that builds into a awesome combination of another Andersen solo complemented by the amazing 'purplesque' keys of Doley. For mine the track of the album - follow that. Initially taking their foot of the accelerator on  'Let It Shine' - this track deceptively creeps up on you into a real ace rocker - again with the combination of Hughes, Andersen and Doley in overdrive."

Check out the whole of AJ's Glenn Hughes 'Resonate' CD review here which is released today plus see our Track Of The Day.

Skydogs 4/11/16

Explosive Belgian Rockers The Sore Losers release today their new album 'Skydogs' through Ultra Elektric Records. Produced by Grammy Award winner Dave Cobb, 'Skydogs' was released earlier in the year to huge critical acclaim in Benelux, and now gets a full international release. Recorded in only ten days in Vox Ton Studios in Berlin, 'Skydogs' is The Sore Losers third full-length album, and comes bursting with energy, dirty riffs and rock‘n’roll vocals reminiscent of Led Zeppelin and early Black Sabbath, combined with the attitude of The Ramones. Opening with the ‘70's psych anthem ‘Blood Moon Shining’, with its fully loaded back beat and swirling hypnotic riffery, the album is a ten-track groove-monster, featuring Belgian hit singles ‘Cherry Cherry’ and ‘Emily’.

Like An Arrow 3/11/16

"It’s likely Blackberry Smoke will never entirely break free of the Lynyrd Skynyrd comparisons attached to the dueling guitars/keyboards sound they traffic in. Still, there is stylistic room to roam. Songs such as the tough, sinewy riff heavy title track, the Bad Company/Brit rock inspired opening 'Waiting for the Thunder' with its crashing drums, greasy riffs and arm-waving chorus, the grinding rocker 'Ought to Know' and blue collar anthem 'Working for a Working Man' are some of the hardest, most powerful tracks in Smoke’s studio history. All of these sound tailored made for the live shows without a doubt."

Check out the whole of Wrinkly The Silver's Blackberry Smoke 'Like An Arrow' CD review here plus see today's Vid Of The Day.

Reid Moon 3/11/16

"Open your eyes and there is this ramshackle wrinkly rocker who could be anyone’s grandad who has got up to do a turn after having too many sherbets on Xmas day!! Add to that as the night wore on his talking voice resembled more and more Keith Richards and you can see what a confusing character he is. Anyway on to the show and after a lengthy preamble (something we would get used to as the evening wore on) Reid launches into 'Raging Storm' which I have to confess was my favourite song of the night. What this track did show was the quality of his guitar playing and his voice despite his advancing years."

That was part of Wrinkly's take on Terry Reid at the Half Moon, Putney, four years ago (pictured) and Terry returns to the same venue this evening following his guest appearance at 'An Evening For Jack' last week.

Wrinkly's Outlaws 3/11/16

And talking of Wrinkly - his WRC ten best gigs '60 Years On Tour' t-shirt (pictured) features The Outlaws (Track Of The Day) supporting The Who at Charlton in 1976. Forty years later, the Southern Rock legends have celebrated triumphs, endured tragedies and survived legal nightmares to remain one of the most influential and best-loved bands of the genre. It’s a band of brothers bound together by history, harmony and the road. It’s about a group that respects its own legacy while refusing to be defined by its past. But most of all, it’s about playing live, playing for their audience. The sextet proves just how well this combination works with ‘Legacy Live’, their brand new double live DigiPak CD, scheduled for release on Friday 11th November on Steamhammer/SPV.

'An Evening For Jack' Review 1/11/16

"Whispering Bob Harris returned to his '70's BBC stomping ground by introducing Eddie Reader who sang 'My Love Is Like A Red Red Rose' followed by Paul Young with Clem Clempson on guitar and Corky Laing on drums on 'Born Under A Bad Sign'.  The first big hitter of the evening was 'White Room' with Terry Reid on vocals, supported by Chris Spedding, Mo Foster and of course Mick Taylor playing that classic guitar solo on his Les Paul. Jack's granddaughter Maya Sage was also on backing vocals - who also later sang later  'Out Into The Fields' accompanied by Gary Moore's son Jack! If there was ever a song that epitomised the roots of both Brown and Bruce it has to be 'Politician'. Pete's passion and delivery in a red fiery shirt left you in no doubt of his political persuasion - a song centred around the '60's Profumo scandal - this time performed with Neil Murray on bass and Bernie Marsden on guitar. Superb."
