Lister Back With A Vengeance 31/1/18

Was it really three years ago that we last saw Aynsley Lister performing at this very venue? With his hard hitting rhythms and guitar work reminiscent of a young Clapton, Lister is one of very few artists playing Blues-infused Rock with a modern edge – heartfelt, soul searching and full of fine song-writing played with both passion and vitality. Lister literally played through the pain barrier at that 100 Club gig three years ago, suffering from a trapped nerve in his back and was consequently drugged up to the eyeballs on painkillers.  However, that night, Aynsley belied the agony he was in and put in a killer performance. Fast forward three years later last night and thankfully no back problems but another killer performance just the same. With our Photo Gallery to come and great support from The  Mark Pontin Group and Jimmy Regal & The Royals - check out today's Video Of The Day.

Laurence Jones Interview 31/1/18

"Are you having good time?" as we returned to another stand-out from 'The Truth' 'Can't Go On Without You' which again saw Holland's keys sparring with another Jones solo before he played the metal riff from the title track - a song, that Laurence told me in a really enjoyable interview beforehand, reflects inward personal sacrifices - such as being a musician - "Do you ever wonder what it would be like to have a different life?" That was part of our Laurence Jones gig review at London's Borderline on Tuesday 23rd January and we were lucky enough to record today's Wrinklycast/Track Of The Day interview with Laurence before his soundcheck.

More Ramblin' Man Fair Announcements 31/1/18

Hot on the heels of Steel Panther's announcement at their Hammersmith Apollo gig last Friday that they will be special guests to the yet unknown Ramblin' Man Fair Main Stage headliners on Saturday 30th June - The Cult have since been announced as the Main Stage headliner's for Sunday 1st July. It's their only UK performance this year and they will also be joined on the roster by Gun, Chas & Dave, Me And That Man, Goldray and Voyager who all have been recently added to the bill.

Aynsley's Tuesday Blues 30/1/18

"The encore was predictably 'Purple Rain' - a unique Lister cover I never tire of hearing. Even the chatting stopped for this one! There is no question that Lister has the voice, the Blues/Rock guitar prowess and indeed the boat race. And on this evidence, given the accomplished deputation by Amadeo, he also has the support of a formidable band, who gel, enjoy the experience and don't just go through the motions. But five years after he was the only British artist to be featured in Classic Rock's 2007 'Top 10 Contemporary Blues Artists' - the question could be asked why is he still doing the clubs, pubs and supporting bigger bands up and down the country? From an entirely selfish point of view - who cares?" Can it really be nearly six years ago since we reviewed Aynsley Lister's gig at The Half Moon in Putney (pictured)? Well the man himself is back in London tonight headlining Tuesday Blues at the iconic 100 Club.

Laurence On A Swiss Roll 30/1/18

Check out Marlene's incredible footage which is today's Video Of The Day plus some pics here added to our Laurence Jones photo gallery!

Independent Venue Week 29/1/18

It's Independent Venue Week - a 7-day celebration of small music venues around the UK and a nod to the people that own, run and work in them, week in, week out. These venues give artists their first experience of playing live in front of an audience and for fans, somewhere to get up close to artists that one day, may well be playing stadiums and festival main stages. Supported using public funding by Arts Council England, IVW brings together these venues along with breaking and established artists, promoters, labels, media, bloggers and tastemakers to create a nationwide series of gigs. So why not head down to Putney's Half Moon in London tonight to see Starsailor's James Walsh or London's Nambucca this Thursday to see Reigning Days as these venues are the backbone of the live music scene in this country and IVW wants to recognize all that they have done to create some of the most memorable nights of the past so they can continue to do the same in the future.

JazzFest Anyone? 29/1/18

Following closely on from recent news from our Canadian correspondent and WRC member Moose On The Loose, we were also delighted to hear from our American correspondent Rick Menitti. Looking forward to the Spring, Rick sent us the line-up for this year's New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival that is taking place between Friday 27th April and Sunday 6th May. As well as Aerosmith, John Mayall, Samantha Fish and many many more - Rick's favourite band The Revivalists will also be playing and consequently they are today's Video Of The Day!

We Never ‘Finnish’ Playing The Blues 29/1/18

Today's Black On Blues Track Of The Day features music from the Billy Walton Band, Andy Cohen, The King Heat Ensemble, Petri Matero Group, Little Axe and Big Jack Johnson.

Laurence Jones Review 28/1/18

"It's great to be back from Holland" said Jones, and despite his set list being slightly tweaked on the band's return from said tour of Switzerland and The Netherlands, Wilson and Smith's opener on Laurence's favourite track from the album - 'Gone Away'  - with its palpable Stevie Ray Vaughan/Jimi Hendrix influence, saw Jones stepping back and connecting with his audience on this ballad thanks to a tremendous rockin' chord guitar solo. Two more tracks from The Truth not only completed an opening quintet from the new release but also  demonstrated the strength of the spine of the new material."

Steel Panther Photo Gallery 28/1/18

Well you had to be there to believe what went on at Steel Panther's Hammersmith Apollo gig on Friday night! With its mosh pit of all mosh pits (it was too dangerous to shoot a video), a stage invasion by over 60 women (President's Club eat your heart out) and great support by both Wayward Sons (pictured) and Inglorious - Mother's review of proceedings will make an interesting read. Anyway, with that review to come shortly, check out our photo gallery from the crazy gig here

Live On The Marsh - Well Almost 28/1/18

Today's Track Of The Day is Friday night's Blues On The Marsh podcast featuring the fabulous Oliver MacDonald and Steve Bailey live in the studio. The True home of International Blues also includes music from Dr. John.

Think Panther 27/1/18

2016 WRC Best Rock Performance award winners Inglorious were an Inglorious meat in the sandwich between Wayward Sons and Steel Panther (pictured) at Hammersmith Apollo last night! For the uninitiated, Steel Panther was formed in 2000 and is comprised of Michael Starr (lead singer), Satchel (guitarist), Lexxi Foxx (bass) and Stix Zadinia (drums). Hailing from Los Angeles, the epicentre for Rock n’ Roll in all its debauchery and glamour, Steel Panther has established themselves as the world’s premier party band, melding Hard Rock virtuosity with parody and criminally good looks. Anyway, with a review and more pics to come, check out today's Inglorious Video Of The Day.

May The Force Be With You 27/1/18

GloryHammer are at Islington's O2 Academy tonight with Swedish special guests Civil War. It's probably just a question of time until the universe taps into the force that is GloryHammer – they should at least consider having their soundtracks composed by the international power Metal act lead by Alestorm keyboardist/singer Christopher Bowes! 'Space 1992: Rise of the Chaos Wizards' is the next chapter of the epic Gloryhammer saga!  It rewrites history and future alike and raises the Astral Hammer to smash the evil Chaos Wizards: this extravagant background is perfect material for galloping, highly melodic power Metal that merges galactic fire with unforgettable Metal anthems!

Mad Axeman Released Yesterday 27/1/18

'A Decade Of The Mad Axeman' is a retrospective collection released yesterday that documents the studio and live output of the renowned German guitarist Michael Schenker (Track Of The Day) between 2007 and 2016. From his return to the roots of MSG  through to Temple of Rock and Michael Schenker Fest, the different group line-ups and special guests have attested to the stunning power of his creativity, while critics have unanimously considered the last decade to be one of the most impressive phases of his career to date.

Return Of Masters Of The Universe 26/1/18

"Finishing with 'Until I Die', they went out with a bang. And at their request, we made some fffing noise. Inglorious are one of those lucky bands that have the talent, but also have the support of the likes of Planet Rock too. It’s tough for bands to make a name for themselves out there these days, despite the flourishing live music scene. But Inglorious have jumped on the jet propelled roller coaster and are heading for the heavens, like the flying god of thunder himself. It’s where their destiny lies. They are masters of their universe." That was our take when we last saw 2016 WRC Best Rock Performance award winners Inglorious at Islington Assembly Hall last May and tonight the guys are an Inglorious Hammersmith Apollo meat in the sandwich with both Wayward Sons and Steel Panther!

Darn Good Canadian Content 26/1/18

Over the next week or so we will be highlighting some of our treasured International WRC members - kicking off today with our very own Moose On The Loose!  His wish was our command - requesting that we feature Canadian band CATL's new video release for 'Baby, You All Wrong' as our Video Of The Day! According to Moose's DCC website  "One band! Only one band have made our Best Gigs list every year since we started in 2013 and that band is CATL!" Looks like The Dakota Tavern will be rocking out big time then tomorrow when CATL perform there. Wish we could be there Moose!

Laurence Jones Photo Gallery 25/1/18

"That guy just keeps getting better and better!" was just one of the many compliments passed Laurence Jones' way after Tuesday's amazing Borderline gig in London. A setlist comprising in the majority of new tracks from his yet to be released new album 'The Truth' was a bold move - but the 25 year old pulled it off big time - his fans now salivatating at the thought of its release on Friday 9th March. Respect also to Laurence's band who were awesome namely Bennett Holland on keys, Phil Wilson on drums and Greg Smith on bass. Anyway, with a review to come - check out today's Photo Gallery here (courtesy of Laurence Harvey) including excellent Brummie Indie/Grunge support band MeMe Detroit (pictured).

Anyway, check out today's Track Of The Day - their new single ‘Handyman’.

Nectars Heaven 25/1/18

New York alt-Punk mavericks The Nectars recently revealed the video for their debut single ‘Heaven’, a three and a half minute ride into art-Rock debauchery which is today's Video Of The Day. With their debut album due out in the Summer, their punk-inflamed guitars, harmonic melodies and raw vocals lay a foundation that’s as influenced by EDM and Funk as it is by their scorching live performance. Their approach harks back to the New York Punk/Pop scene of the late 70’s, but brings a modernity of sound that these new millennial tech-savvy creatives can lay claim to. Breaking out of the suburbs of New Jersey, the four-piece consisting of members Jon Paul (bass/vocals), Mike Montalbano (drums/vocals), Michael Baron (guitar/vocals) and lead vocalist Jessica Kenny, have created a style that’s edgy, energetic and full of attitude.

It's A Monster 24/1/18

Explosive Brighton based Heavy Rock trio The Rocket Dolls are ready to ignite with the news they'll release their full length new studio album 'DeadHead' on Friday 6th April and take it on the road for UK live dates including London's Dublin Castle on Saturday 21st April. Featuring just the right amount of melody with straight up hook laden driven riffs combined with curveballs when you least expect them, 'DeadHead' is a must hear album for 2018. Relentless in their approach, The Rocket Dolls have taken the Rock mould, smashed it, and then meticulously pieced it back together again to deliver a fresh contemporary collection of music that combines the best bits of Heavy Rock, Grunge, Punk and Pop smart sensibilities. It's clear the band have spent time wisely crafting their second album, as it's a monster!

Hold Your Head Up 22/1/18

We were gutted to learn yesterday of the death of Argent, The Zombies and more recently The Kinks legend Jim Rodford after a fall on the stairs at the age of 76. A brilliant bass guitarist and one of the genuine nice guys of music, we saw Jim performing many times with his cousin Rod Argent in Argent in the 70's until they split in 1976. The last time we saw Jim was when he performed with Rod and of course Colin Blunstone with The Zombies at Ramblin' Man Fair in July 2016 (pictured). Today's Video Of The Day, from that glorious Summer's Day in Kent is fittingly Argent's classic 'Hold Your Head Up' and is dedicated to Jim and all his family.

A Choice Gig 21/1/18

"Nimmo holds the stage – bright red tartan kilt and suede workboots sharply contrasting his black Rock t-shirt – with his beaming childlike smile warming the hearts, and making him look like a big kid in a sweet shop. His silver Strat is put through its paces with a dexterity that is intricate but not overly flashy. It's Rock Blues played the way it should be. With thanks to the audiences patience - the gig was postponed last year due to his voice issues – the band follow with 'Waking Up' from the 'King King Live' album. Another rocky Blues track, it shows that the voice is back where it should be."

On Friday the band released a fitting tribute - their version of 'Zombie' in her memory, with proceeds going to Dolores’ three children, which is today's Video Of The Day.

Happy Birthday Marshman 21/1/18

Today's Blues On The Marsh Track Of The Day was recorded in advance of the Marshman's birthday at the Beale residence. First Lady Of The Blues 20/1/18

"Anyway, Martin's newly monogrammed Sari Schorr drum kit shone out like a beacon as the band made their way on to the stage - unbelievably the word being that the guys had only physically all got together for the first time yesterday! They promised new songs from their all-important sophomore album and they duly delivered with their superb opener 'Revolution' - Ash easing himself in with a cool guitar solo and Schorr's awesome vocals ticking all the right boxes following a conversation I had with some Sari virgins in the bar earlier. It was then three in a row from 'AFON' - Schorr's vocal on the beautifully crafted 'Damn The Reason', featuring Fridzema's keyboards and another Wilson guitar solo - was followed by chuckles from the audience at Sari's throwaway line that the band "had only met yesterday" (which was in fact  of course true) before the opening groovy rhythm guitar of Wilson on 'Cat And Mouse' which saw both Ash and Bob excelling again - and finally with Wilson's rockin' solo and Fridzema's keys on 'Demolition Man', again forcefully sung and written by Schorr."

With ex-Whitesnake mucker Neil Murray on bass, top drummer Mickey Barker plus a guest appearance by Danny Bryant  - it was a memorable journey covering all of Marsden's legendary music from Whitesnake's 'Here I Go Again' to 'Shine's 'Latino' to Bobby Bland's 'Ain't No Love in the Heart of the City'. A special mention also for excellent support band Flawless Carbon (Track Of  The Day) - so check out our photo gallery from the gig here.

Their debut gig was at the Lyceum in London (supported by Deep Purple) and their first self-titled album was released in February 1970. It was after the release of 'Death Walks Behind You' that they had their first taste of UK chart success with 'Tomorrow Night' and 'Devil’s Answer' (today's Video Of The Day). The band split in 1975 and briefly reformed in the early 1980’s. Creedence Clearwater Revived, who are on at 8.15pm, feature the legendary Johnny Guitar Williamson who has worked alongside Steve Cropper, Spencer Davis, Mick Green, Jerry Donahue, Zoot Money, Chris Farlowe and Creedence Clearwater Revival.

After PAL split up, Bernie joined David Coverdale in the newly formed Whitesnake, helping to establish the band as one of the most successful live Rock bands in Europe and Japan. Bernie Marsden co-wrote many of the band's hits including 'Fool For Your Loving', 'Here I Go Again' and 'Lovehunter" before leaving Whitesnake to form Alaska. Bernie Marsden was also a member of Cozy Powell's Hammer, Babe Ruth & Wild Turkey. Over the years, Bernie has worked with Joe Bonamassa, Jack Bruce, Walter Trout, Ian Gillan and many more. Anyway, we were lucky enough to catch Bernie at the iconic 100 Club last night during London Blues Week. With more photos to come - check out today's Video Of The Day.

Here I Go Again 18/1/18

"This Mississippi Sheiks cover was inevitably followed by two Whitesnake classics ‘Fool For Your Loving’ – what an opening riff – and of course ‘Here I Go Again’. That was it until Marsden got the nod from ‘de management’ to do an encore. One final anecdote as Bernie proudly announced it was his 35th wedding anniversary – and dedicated it to his wife and the geezer who played at his wedding – Gary Moore! That was it – the missing link. Not since the passing of Gary have I seen someone switch from Rock to Blues and vice-versa so easily during a set. I’ll admit ‘Walking By Myself’ brought a tear to my eye and was the icing on the cake – in my opinion the best set of the day." That was part of our take on Bernie Marsden at Ramblin Man' Fair in July 2015 (pictured and Video Of The Day) and tonight we're off to see Bernie at the iconic 100 Club as part of London's Blues Week.

Engine Room Still Running Smoothly 18/1/18

Despite losing her 'Engine Room', Sari was terrific, Ash Wilson was killer on guitar and what can you say about the great Bob Fridzema on keys plus Matt Beable (bass) and Roy Martin (drums)? Sari's new line up is ticking over nicely - do not miss them! In the meantime, with a review to come, check out our photo gallery here courtesy of Eric Duvet and Richard Bolwell.

Mutual Admiration Society 18/1/18

Sterling Ball, John Ferraro and Jim Cox will be releasing 'The Mutual Admiration Society' tomorrow via Mascot Label Group. The seeds of The Mutual Admiration Society were planted a long time ago, back in 1972 to be precise. A young Sterling, was introduced to the sound of Albert Lee by his father, Ernie. It was during his time in Country Rock band Head, Hands & Feet, who were opening for Jethro Tull at a local show that Sterling went to see them two nights in a row and then for a third successive night at Hollywood’s Whiskey A Go Go. He was hooked, and in Junior High School Ball and Ferraro started playing music together. After High School, Ferraro went on to College at Long Beach State where he met Cox. The record also features an array of incredible guests; Steve Lukather (Toto), Steve Morse (Deep Purple, Dixie Dregs, Kansas), John Petrucci (Dream Theater), Albert Lee and Jay Graydon. Check out today's Track Of The Day ‘Sugar Shack’ featuring Steve Vai.

Operation: Garage Tonight 15/1/18

'The New Reality' released last December is the third and final chapter in the musical trilogy from iconic Metal vocalist Geoff Tate who is playing London's The Garage tonight. Following a little over one year after the release of the second chapter, 'Resurrection', in 2016 and about two years after the first chapter, 'The Key', Operation: Mindcrime (Video Of The Day) is a creative platform that continues in the spirit of the historic album of the same name, spawning concepts as grand as the music, and intertwining the intensity of the former Queensryche vocalist's iconic past with the provocative, progressive mindset that has made him one of music's most resolute forces and frontmen. Joined on the album by a cast of musicians, Kelly Gray, John Moyer, Simon Wright, Scott Mercado, Scott Moughton, Brian Tichy and Mike Ferguson, whose talent and resumes speak volumes for the quality of its musicianship, 'The New Reality' is another fine Progressive Rock/Metal entry from Tate.

London Blues Week Is Back 15/1/18

After a massively successful first year, London Blues Week is back at London's iconic 100 Club in Oxford Street with six nights of Real Blues Music in the heart of Central London. This week's line up is tonight: Ben Poole & The Stevie Nimmo Band, tomorrow: Joe Louis Walker + King Size Slim, Wednesday: Climax Blues Band + Elles Bailey, Thursday: Bernie Marsden + Flawless Carbon, Friday: Stan Webb's Chicken Shack + Red Butler and Saturday: Downliners Sect + The Masonics + Jim Riley Blues Foundation.

The Blues Are Instrumental 15/1/18

Today's Black On Blues Track Of The Day is dedicated to the late Denise LaSalle who sadly died last week. This week's playlist features Ritchie Dave Porter, Bobby Harden, The Hard Chargers, Ilya Portnov, Likho Duo, Joe Rusi and Heaven & Earth.

A Line To Cross 14/1/18

Ignore The Sign (Video Of The Day), the consummate new Classic Rock band formed by German singer, composer and multi-instrumentalist Ossy Pfeiffer, have signed to Steamhammer/SPV to release their utterly outstanding debut album ‘'A Line To Cross’' on Friday 23rd February. Having already written a bunch of songs, Ossy recruited guitarist/vocalist Anca Graterol (Rosy Vista), former The Sweet and current Michael Schenker Group guitarist Steve Mann, former Uli Jon Roth and UFO (studio] bass player Lars Lehmann, percussionist Momme Boe and drummer Kristof Hinz, who has just put down the drum tracks for Eloy’s latest album. “"This group isn’'t about egos, the focus is on real team work",” states Pfeiffer, adding: “"Ignore The Sign consists of accomplished musicians; that’s why there’'s no room for self-adulation. The tried and tested motto It’s all about the song’ applies to everybody involved.” ‘'A Line To Cross'’ oozes this dictum."

Templeton Pek - The Awakening 14/1/18

Templeton Pek are starting 2018 with a bang and they have released their second single 'The Awakening' (today's Track Of The Day), taken from the upcoming album 'Watching The World Come Undone', also out on Friday 23rd February. Not only is it a fast-paced and melodic anthem, but also a song with an important message according to the band, who share a little insight: "It's a song that came about pretty quick in the process, it seemed to encapsulate the feeling at the time we wrote it. We were going through the beginnings of the Brexit vote and lots of other world tension was escalating politically. It has been a wake up call for a lot of people who are just sick of politicians and being lied to or "influenced", and as a by product seems to have actually got more people taking an interest in having their say, how their countries or cities are being run and actually using their votes or voices.”

Loud & Proud WP2 14/1/18

Walking Papers, which features guitarist/vocalist Jeff Angell, drummer Barrett Martin (Screaming Trees, Mad Season, and 2017 Latin Grammy producer nominee), bassist Duff McKagen (Guns N’ Roses, Velvet Revolver) and keyboardist Benjamin Anderson, have upped the sonic ante with the lucky 13 tracks put forth on their aptly dubbed second album 'WP2', which is set for release next Friday from Loud & Proud Records. Put up or shut up. It’s a mantra many Rock bands of today tend to give great lip service to, but often fail to deliver the goods to back up their lofty claims. This hard-Rocking Seattle quartet know exactly how to forge the sounds that back up everything they want to be as a vibrant creative entity.

Perfection Kills 13/1/18

"From the heaviest song comes the Bluesiest. 'Judge A Man' covers all the usual downtrodden themes, but is a return to form with some great guitar and vocals, showing just what DP is capable of, this is much more like it! 'Junket Man' is another good strong song, with its Rock/Blues style it would be at home on any Joe Bonamassa album and could become a crowd favourite when played live. The same could be said for 'iEyes' this time with a Funky bass line and more of a band feel, whilst bemoaning the ever growing importance of technology, this song would probably work just as well as an instrumental."

Toby Arrives 13/1/18

The Koch-Marshall Trio are American guitarist Greg Koch, his son Dylan Koch on drums and Hammond B3 specialist Toby Lee Marshall. The trio release their new album 'Toby Arrives' on CD and vinyl on Friday 23rd February. At the heart of this organ trio is a Blues sensibility - but Koch's compositions are an amalgam of Rock, Funk, Jazz and Country served up with heavy grooves and dynamic improvisations delivered with no small dose of humor and occasional wild abandon. The trio blends the explosive guitar manipulations of Greg, the groove-centric, power-pocket playing of his son Dylan on drums (who share many telepathic musical moments) and the glorious, Hammond organ stylings of the uber-talented Toby Marshall, Greg’s compositions are properly portrayed in the Blues drenched, Funk, chicken-fried, Gospelly, Jazz-Rock panorama in which they were conceived. Their first release, the title track 'Toby Arrives' is today's Track Of The Day and showcases the first moments of their unexpected musical partnership captured at an extemporaneous jam session earlier in the year.

Urban Healer Tonight 13/1/18

"'Trust Yourself' with Turner's 'Joplinesque' groovy, gravelly voice and tangible stage presence, was a great foot stomping romp with a great riff from Black. Taj Mahal's 'Leaving Trunk' grooved and rocked in true 60's/70's style whilst 'Brand New Day' emphasised the tightness of a band excelling in all the right places. Black's intro on the album title track took things down tempo with some intricate guitar work combined with Turner's hypnotic captivating voice that saw the appreciative crowd hanging of off every word. Classy." That was our take on Born Healer performing at BluesRockfest in September 2016 and tonight the guys have their first gig of 2018 in London at The Urban Bar in Whitechapel Road.

What Happens Next? 12/1/18

"These new tracks literally vibrate the soul with an energy rarely found these days. From the dynamic aptly named opening track, “'Energy”', full of Rock from start to finish, to the majestic crunch of track 3 “'Thunder High On The Mountain”', with its Hard Rock intro, slowing down to Joe’s melodic guitar, ending with a more Folky sound, and the easy, sensual chords of “track 5 'Righteous' and Track 6 'Smooth Soul', both slower Rock ballads and good catchy tunes which keep you hooked to the end of each track, although inevitably you feel that they could benefit from added vocals - Sammy H. was obviously busy at the Cabo Wabo!  Seriously though, the unparalleled Rock-rhythm section gives 'What Happens Next' a depth of groove that sets it apart from Satriani’'s other work. Track 2 'Catbot' is more of a drum based track, slowing down mid-track to show-off Joe’s undoubted guitar talent, whilst one of my one of my favourites - track 4 'Cherry Blossoms' - is full of changing tempos which becomes more of a Rock ballad."

Wrong Creatures 12/1/18

Black Rebel Motorcycle Club also release their seventh studio album 'Wrong Creatures' via Abstract Dragon Records today. They have already treated fans to five instant grat tracks, first single 'Little Thing Gone Wild', a dirty, sexy, rollicking ride of big licks and heavy bass – which was the inspiration for the LP's title. Next up came the Cave-esque murder balladry of 'Haunt' followed by ‘Question of Faith’, ‘King Of Bones’ and most recently 'Echo'. The widely acclaimed California-based band consists of Peter Hayes (vocal, guitar, harmonica), Robert Levon Been (vocal, bass, guitar) and Leah Shapiro (drums). They've been crafting perfectly honed, Bluesy, Psychedelic Garage-Rock since 1998 and 'Wrong Creatures' was produced by Nick Launay (Nick Cave, Arcade Fire).

Blues Club Friday 12/1/18

Today's Blues Club Podcast Track Of The Day has another two hours of non-stop Best in Blues with More Music and Less Chat, featuring New Releases, Classic Tracks, UK Independent Blues Broadcasters Association Presenters' Picks and much more. Music this week Includes tracks from Popa Chubby,  Alastair Greene, Casey Hensley,  Hurricane Ruth,  Soul Shack from Jack Mack and the Heart Attack Horns, Joe Rusi,  Miss Freddye,  Dani Wilde,  Rick Vito, Peter Karp, Mike Lang,  Wee Willie Walker, Johnny Nicholas, Emily Burgess, Big Joe & The Dynaflows, FreeWorld, The Slammers Maximum Jive Band,  Backtrack Blues Band,  Janey Street, Jørgen Sandvik,  Kim Wilson,  Corey Dennison Band, Sister Rosetta Tharpe,  Jo Harman (pictured),  Albert Castiglia Band,  Chris Daniels and the Kings, Heather Newman, Monster Mike Welch and Mike Ledbetter, 11 Big, The Craig Hughes Two, B. B. & The Blues Shacks and more.

On Top Of The Hill 11/1/18

"In a display of heartfelt emotion, and an indication of their younger influences, Taylor dedicates the closing song 'Where I Belong' to Chris Cornell. Starting with just guitar and vocals this track grows into a full Rock ballad. Another tasteful solo, showing that minimalist is often best in a song like this. Well received by the crowd, many of whom are here specifically to see them, Mason Hill warm the heart. And the stage." Our final 2017 WRC award goes to Mason Hill who were voted Best Support band following their gig with Inglorious which we reviewed at London's Islington Assembly Hall in May last year. Well done to all of our eleven category winners here as, following our recent award presentation to Black Country Communion, we aim to present the remaining ten awards during 2018!

The Snake King 11/1/18

Rick Springfield’s resumé as a successful musician and actor has been well documented down the years. What is important here is that ‘The Snake King’ (Track Of The Day) due to be released on Friday 26th January will not be the Springfield album that anyone is  expecting. Not for the first time in his career, Rick has thrown a curveball that will simultaneously surprise and delight with a record that finds him travelling down a dusty dirt road to explore the Blues side of his music. Just check out cuts such as ‘In The Land Of The Blind’, ‘Little Demon’ and the epic album closer ‘Orpheus In The Underworld’ to get an understanding of the Blues laden journey that he has undertaken. Of the many delights on this album, Rick’s underrated guitar playing really shines here, perhaps more so than on any other record in his storied catalogue.

Eel Pie's BluesClub Tonight 11/1/18

The Eel Pie Club kicks off 2018 with the fantastic All-Star Blues band BluesClub at The Patch, 67 London Road, Twickenham TW1 3SZ tonight. BluesClub's star line-up is Guy Fletcher (Dire Straits and Mark Knopfer) on keys and steel guitar; Danny Cummings (Dire Straits and Mark Knopfler) on vocals; Peter Hope-Evans (Medicine Head and Pete Townshend) on mouth organ and jews harp; Paul Beavis (Andy Fairweather Low Band) on drums and Robbie McIntosh (Pretenders, Paul McCartney Band and John Mayer) on guitar; Elliott Randall (Steely Dan) on
guitar and Alan Rogan (who is currently Pete Townshend's guitar tech) on Fender bass. BluesClub's set list includes songs from artists as varied as Leadbelly, Son House and Charley Patton, to Slim Harpo, Sonny Boy Williamson, John Lee Hooker, Taj Mahal and Canned Heat. Doors open at 8.30pm with music from 9-11pm. WRC members are reminded that they can use their cards to get discounted admission.

Stone Certainty 10/1/18

"Sandwiched in between 'Wait For You', which had a similar formula, and the heavier 'This Life', was the aforementioned 'JAM' - testament to the undoubted fact that they will not suffer second album syndrome! And finally, if you were looking for a glorious headbanger, then the second single off the album 'Not Your Enemy' did them proud. Suffice to say it's only January and we already we have a contender for 'Best Support' or 'One's To Watch' in our 2017 WRC Awards!" That was our take when we saw Stone Broken supporting Glenn Hughes at Islington Assembly Hall and consequently we also saw them at Ramblin' Man Fair in July (Video Of The Day) plus supporting Living Colour at London's ULU (pictured) in October and the guys have deservedly been voted 'One's To Watch' in our 2017 WRC awards!

ROTR 2017 Review Part Deux 10/1/18

Today's 2017 WRC award winning Rock On The Ridge Track Of The Day is part two of their review of 2017. Featured are Dirty Thrills, The Bad Flowers, 19-Twenty, SKAM, In Flames, Aviator Shades, Wicked Tongues, Freerock Saints, Phantom 5, Klogr, Voodoo Six, Trucker Diablo, The New Roses, Revolution Saints, Europe (pictured), From The Messenger, Bedrokk, Love Past Blue, Shaman's Harvest, Lynch Mob, Black Country Communion and Citizen Soldier.

Half Moon For Schorr 10/1/18

Next Tuesday 16th January at Putney's Half Moon sees the debut of 2016 WRC Best Blues Rock award winner Sari Schorr's new band where they will be playing songs from her forthcoming new album. The new line-up includes Ash Wilson guitar/vocals, Bob Fridzema (ex-King King) on keyboards, Mat Beable (Stevie Nimmo Band) bass guitar and Roy Martin (Connie Lush Band/Modern English) on drums although Neal Wilkinson, whose work credits include Van Morrison, James Morrison, Paul McCartney, Ray Charles and Annie Lennox, features on the album.

Dan's The Man 9/1/18

"Dan’s final encore was the rockin’ ‘Fetch Your Spade’ from ‘DST’, which in itself was a microcosm of an extraordinary set list that those lucky enough to be present had the privilege of experiencing. Despite no new material, this was truly a night of music at its ultimate best - a definitive stick of dynamite rock with Blues running all the way through it. Punters comments such as "what an awesome gig", "such a dynamic guitarist" and “such a great gig” were totally justified - and make no mistake - by a country mile, this is already a contender for our 2017 WRC Best Blues Rock Performance award!"  And so it came to pass! Dan Patlansky's performance at London's O2 Academy Islington in May last year has indeed seen him win that very same award!

New Year's Blues On The Radio 9/1/18

IBBA albums of the month, gig news, new releases... yes it's the first Blues On The Radio Track Of The Day of 2018. What you'll get is an hour jammed full of music from Josh Smith, Andy Gunn, Jane Lee Hooker, John Verity, II Big, Mississippi MacDonald & Steve Bailey, The Robert J Hunter Band (pictured), Jack J Hutchinson, Lucy Zirins, The Craig Hughes Two, Dan Burnett and Gypsy Dave Smith. So click play and turn it up!

Domino Effect 9/1/18

Bristol-based Alt-Rock mavericks Turbowolf have released ‘Domino’, the latest single taken from their upcoming album ‘The Free Life’, which will be released via So Recordings on Friday 9th March. ‘Domino’ is a transportative, transcendental voyage into the anarchic Punk ethos of Turbowolf. A breakneck sonic journey of driving bass lines, immersive overdrive and cutting synthesisers, the track races through pounding verses before exploding into its anthemic chorus. Turbowolf have just been announced as the main headliner for Royal Blood’s upcoming US tour plus they will also be touring the UK and Europe this March/April including London's Scala on Wednesday 14th March.

IT Win Best Prog Award 8/1/18

"By this time Harrison Wells lookalike Jackson had removed his the aforementioned straightjacket revealing a 'God' t-shirt before he introduced the next song - "It's a mover" - and he wasn't wrong as he smashed his percussion about on 'Gamble The Dream' - reinforcing their unique sound with its welcome Floydish tinge. If I was to pick my favourite from 'WAITT' it would be a close contest. A longer set would see the twelve minute 'The Path Of Least Resistance' as a classic finale, however, they did thankfully include the superb 'Voices' which not only encapsulates what IT is all about including outstanding keyboards from McCaffrey plus the driving engine room of Hawkins and Chism, but it also features a George Galloway speech about Iraq which according to Nick, George did in one studio take. A great way to challenge/change our political beliefs George!" That was part of our IT (Video Of The Day) Progtoberfest 2 gig review at London's The Bedford in Balham in late October and the Proggers have deservedly walked off with our 2017 WRC Best Prog Performancel award!

Hughes The Daddy 8/1/18

And talking of awards - as we mentioned yesterday in our Black Country Communion gig review, we managed to smuggle into London's Hammersmith Apollo last Thursday night their 2017 WRC Best Reviewed CD award. And if you wanted evidence - check out today's photo of lead singer/bass guitarist Glenn Hughes gratefully receiving the said award!

Easy Come Easy Blues 8/1/18

Today's Black On Blues Podcast Track Of The Day is another popular Blues women special featuring Red’s Blues, Tedeschi Trucks Band, Ghalia & Mama’s Boys, Jane Lee Hooker, Kelly Z and Lara & The Bluz Dawgz.

Black Country Communion Review 7/1/18

"'Wanderlust' - another from 'BCCIV' was sandwiched in between four classics which took us back to the Summer of 2011. Firstly, Bonham's intro on the still blistering and punchy 'One Last Soul' from their debut album with Joe rocking back and forth, a number which Hughes included in his own Islington Assembly Hall set last year - Glenn then taking the opportunity to tell those assembled not to believe everything they read about BCC in the media! "It's good to be home" declared Hughes before they played the still very beautiful 'Save Me' - crafted by another awesome guitar solo from Bonamassa. Talking of Joe - you have to do a double take to remember that the still spectacular 'Song Of Yesterday', despite being written by JB, is actually a BCC release - in fact it is the only BCC song that Bonamassa has ever included in his personal  set other than once performing 'The Battle For Hadrian's Wall'. Sung jointly by Bonamassa and Hughes, and complemented by Joe's outstanding guitar solo - this was utter perfection - whilst the final part of this cracking 2011 quartet was a breakneck rendition of  'The Outsider' - the crowd devouring each song as if they've never been away, with each solo greeted by a huge cheer, the choruses sung loudly and the fists raised at all the right moments."

International Colour 7/1/18

"Anyway, the good news was that the band managed to use the right intro backing track for the driving Rock of their anthem 'Cult Of Personality' from 'Vivid' and not only did Corey (doing a Run-D.M.C.)  come to our side of the stage and shake one of our outstretched hands, but he finished off by going walk about during the performance with cries of "Jump. Jump, Jump" - which everyone obliged - Glover eventually ending up singing along with everyone at the back of the audience! And that was that - a truly memorable evening - Living Colour play Liverpool tonight and Newcastle on Saturday before embarking on a US tour. Don't leave it another four and half years guys before you come back to London! Ramblin' Man Fair 2018 anyone?" That was part of our Living Colour (Video Of The Day) gig review at London's ULU in October and the Americans have deservedly walked off with our 2017 WRC Best International award!

New Year On The Marsh 7/1/18

Today's Blues On The Marsh Track Of The Day originally broadcast on Friday night includes music from Jimi Barbiani Band, The Hardchargers, Jim Shaneberger Band, Boo Boo Weavils, Josh Smith, Stefan Hauk, Willie May Band, Nouveaux Honkies, Washboard Jo, Shaun Murphy, Steve Tracy and The Crawling Kingsnakes, Mighty Mo Rodgers and Baba Sissoko, Leo Bud Welch, Curtis Salgado and Alan Hager, Steve Sainas, Frank Statesboro, Preacher Boy, Robert Finlay, Robert Randolph & The Family Band, Tom Principato and Steve Wolf and Sweet Bourbon.

Dan's Champion 6/1/18

"The evening demonstrated beyond doubt Dan’s ability to play quieter, more melodic songs, with the same passion and vitality he exhibits in the Dan Reed Network.  As further evidence of his ability to switch seamlessly between music genres, in December Dan returns to the UK again, reunited with his Network, to support Extreme on his third UK tour of 2017.  It is likely to sell out as quickly as the first two." That was part of Big Ian's take on Dan Reed's solo gig at St. Pancras Old Church, a beautifully restored parish church half way between Camden High Street and St. Pancras station in September and Dan's mesmeric set (see our Video Of The Day) has duly been voted Best Unplugged Performance in our 2017 WRC Awards.

Black Country Communion Photo Gallery 6/1/18

"Six year's since we saw them as a collective, Bonamassa is still truly the axe hero of his generation and is still the perfect foil for Hughes’ still-superb voice. Jason Bonham is still a chip off the old block on drums and Derek Sherinian still adds huge depth to the sound on Hammond organ. However, six year's down the line and this Supergroup is still coming to terms with being a band given their well-documented commitments but boy-oh-boy, it still is a beautiful thing to behold. Let's pray we don't have to wait as long again for their next tour and 'BCCV'." Watch out for the whole of AJ's Black Country Communion Hammersmith Apollo gig review tomorrow - but in the meantime check out our BCC Photo Gallery here (pictures courtesy of Christie Goodwin and Eric Duvet).

Samarkind To Tour UK 6/1/18

One of last year's "ones to watch" Rock bands; Samarkind (Track Of The Day) have charted on Planet Rock's Top 10 albums of 2017, which sees the multinational self release artists feature alongside the likes of Europe, Inglorious, Black Star Riders, Gun, Thunder and Wayward Sons. The prestigious chart position, as voted for by the station's listeners, follows Samarkind's recent first live show in Dublin as guests to Inglorious, and the release of their self-titled debut album this past November to widespread praise from the media and music fans alike.. Samarkind make their debut in the UK this March with a series of live shows including London's Black Heart on Sunday 1st April.

Songs Of Yesterday 5/1/18

If you needed further affirmation that Black Country Communion do indeed fill that 70's live void vacated by Zeppelin, then we hope you were there last night to witness Hughes, Bonamassa, Sherinian and Bonham's two hour set at London's Hammersmith Apollo. OK - their chequered history as a result of their pinkies being in numerous musical pies doesn't see them touring very often (this was the second and last date of their UK tour) - but when they do - you savour every moment. Anyway, with a review and more pics to come, check out today's 'Song Of Yesterday' Video Of The Day.

Ramblin' On Yet Again! 5/1/18

"This was deliciously backed up by ‘Cheap Sunglasses’ and ‘Chartreuse’ - building up to the final big hitters, 'Just Got Paid' (Joe Bonamassa's staple cover), ‘Sharp Dressed Man’ and ‘Legs’. No 'Rough Boy' and no Jeff Beck joining them this time on their first encore  ‘La Grange and ‘Tush’ but hey you can't have everything! Although encore number two of Elvis' 'Jailhouse Rock' somehow ended abruptly with no "good night" from the bearded wonders, possibly because of the fight that erupted between two neathandtertal's behind us. How on earth can you end up fighting at a ZZ Top gig? Anyway, the set list was virtually the same as two years ago and in a way it is more of a performance or a show than a gig, which perhaps to an extent impacts their vocal rapport with the crowd - but hey, at the end of the day, it doesn’t get much better than this! So that was it. Ramblin' Man Fair over for another year as we made our way home out of Mote Park with post-festival depression due to kick in the following morning. Yet another great weekend of live music - and as one famous American once put it - "I'll be back!" That was part of AJ's 2017 Ramblin' Man Fair review and not unexpectedly that brilliant weekend last July has won our 2017 WRC Award for Best Festival for the second year running!

New Year Blues Club 5/1/18

B. & The Blues Shacks and more.

Hammersmith Communion Tonight 4/1/18

"However, BCC's strength is that their sound is fixed firmly in the mid 70s, and so their songs already sound classic. And so as the band rattle through tracks from both of their albums, the crowd devours them as if they've always been there, with each solo greeted by a huge cheer, the choruses sung loudly and the fists raised at all the right moments. A spectacular 'Song Of Yesterday', a blistering 'One Last Soul', a beautiful 'Save Me' and a breakneck rendition of 'The Outsider' are particularly noteworthy in a set full to the brim with highlights." That was part our take on Black Country Communion way back in  July 2011 at London's High Voltage (pictured) and the boys are back in town tonight at Hammersmith's Eventim Apollo!

It's A Kind Of Magic 4/1/18

Following on from the news that Magic - a kind of Queen - had won our 2017 WRC Best Tribute award - we suppose it's no surprise that Queen + Adam Lambert have now also walked off with our Best Rock Performance award gaining a massive 61% vote from our members! Indeed today's Video Of The Day is taken from their awesome gig at London's O2 Arena (pictured) just over three weeks ago. Watch out tomorrow for the winner of our Best Festival award!

A Decade Of The Mad Axeman 4/1/18

'A Decade Of The Mad Axeman' is a retrospective collection out on Friday 26th January that documents the studio and live output of the renowned German guitarist Michael Schenker between 2007 and 2016. From his return to the roots of MSG  through to Temple of Rock and Michael Schenker Fest, the different group line-ups and special guests have attested to the stunning power of his creativity, while critics have unanimously considered the last decade to be one of the most impressive phases of his career to date.

Stand-Up Rock Comedy Anyone? 3/1/18

Talking of At The Sun, the band are supporting Rock 'n Roll stand-up comic and author Pete K  Mally on the Birmingham and Bristol legs of his 2018 Live N Loud - For Those About To Laugh tour! We originally bumped into Pete in the gents (cut out the toilet humour please) when we saw Living Colour and Stone Broken at London's ULU in October and then saw him host Progtoberfest 2 at the end of the same month in Balham (pictured). Needless to say we will be catching Pete when he stops off at London's Leicester Square Theatre on Saturday 17th February - a tour that also includes Epsom, Leicester and Nottingham.

Exposure For Y.O.U.N.G 3/1/18

Y.O.U.N.G have recently released a video for their brand new single ‘Exposure’ (today's Video Of The Day) which features the band performing the track throughout a number of locations, from huge colourful backdrops to dark urban settings. In support of the new single, the Manchester collective have announced their first ever UK headline tour through Live Nation. The band will play five-dates calling at Glasgow, Birmingham, Newcastle, London's Camden Assembly on Sunday 4th March and Manchester.

Black Country Success 2/1/18

We're off to see Black Country Communion at Hammersmith's Eventim Apollo in London this thursday, so it's fitting that today we announce that BCC (Video Of The Day) are the winners of our Best Reviewed CD in our 2017 WRC Awards.  Polling 36% of the vote, they are our second winners to be announced following Magic's success as Best Tribute with Best Radio Show the next to be announced tomorrow.
