The Worst Show On Earth 30/6/18

When Evil Blizzard emerged from the bowels of Lancashire with their debut album five years ago it is fair to say they caused a stir. Put on the front cover of The Guardian, championed by Mark E Smith (who gave the band the money to record their debut album out of his own pocket) their gruesome mix of four bass players blending Psyche, Krautrock, Post Punk and an unmistakable image saw them launched onto magazines and websites worldwide. But it is only with their new, third, album ‘The Worst Show On Earth' (released yesterday on their own newly-founded Crackedankles Records) that the band have finally fulfilled their potential. Heavy, grinding and yet commercially viable, this new album sees the band truly shake off the ‘gimmick’ tag of the past and stride forward into new musical dimensions. The band are also touring the UK for the remainder of 2018, together with headline slots at Beatherder, Sonic Rock Solstice and Jesstival amongst other festivals, with European and Japanese dates being arranged for the future.

Push, Push, Push, Boom! 29/6/18

#metoo has rightly changed the world forever,  but did you hear anyone say sorry? Toronto singer/guitarist Joan Smith has released her first solo single 'Normalize' as Joan Smith and the Jane Does and the title track from her 'EP' released last month is today's Video Of The Day and addresses this point in her usual full on uncompromising fashion! Watch and then, Normalize. And. Gain. Control.

Blues Pills’ guitarist Dorian Sorriaux’s debut solo ‘Hungry Ghost’ EP, is set for release today on Soulseller Records, and coinciding with its release, Dorian will be playing his first UK solo show at the St. Pancras Old Church in London tonight. Inspired by the golden age of acoustic folk, ‘Hungry Ghost’ (see today's Track Of The Day) may come as a pleasant surprise to any Blues Pills listeners used to hearing Dorian’s expressive electric guitar licks. Sorriaux will then support Myles Kennedy on his UK tour this July, culminating with the London Palladium on Sunday 29th July.

Ramblin' Man Fair Countdown - Big Boy Bloater 28/6/18

An unexpected bonus from Ramblin' Man Fair's itinerary this Saturday is that Big Boy Bloater (Video Of The Day) is playing an acoustic session in the VIP tent at 3.35pm. Big Boy Bloater & The LiMiTs recently released their new album  ‘Pills’ via  Provogue/Mascot Label Group and they have fans in the shape of  Imelda May, Mark Lamarr, Craig Charles, Paul Jones and  Jools Holland - who called Big Boy “one of the great Bluesmen of our time”. Following on from 2016’s 'Luxury Hobo', ‘Pills’ anthology style makes this album such an engaging proposition, the twists and turns always find you revealing something new, hidden beneath the surface. They go from autobiographical to grotesque characters in one fell swoop!

Rock On With Circu5 28/6/18

On today's WRC Award winning Rock On The Ridge Track Of The Day, originally broadcast last Saturday, Bob & Jules have a  full interview with multi instrumentalist Steve Tilling on his new Album 'Circu5' plus some of the music tracks that made a impact on his life.

June Wrinklycast - Vambo Stone Free Festival Interview 27/6/18

"Their closing track - a copy of Deep Purple's 'Burn' - showcases what final vocal talents he has. You don't cover such iconic Rock tracks like that lightly and he nailed it. I would have been happy just to have seen that but their short set was full of their own excellent material, including 'Fast Car' and their new single 'Why, Why, Why' which is getting some considerable radio airplay. With bassist James Scott completing the DM booted front of stage and drummer Steve Price driving the whole ensemble from behind the kit, they are an excellent addition to the festival and, probably the best band of the two stages today. Yes, they are that good. Another of my must see again bands." That was part of our 2018 Stone Free Festival Vambo review here and we were lucky enough to catch up with the guys after their explosive set which is today's Track Of The Day.

Ramblin' Man Fair Countdown - The Cadillac Three 27/6/18

The Cadillac Three have announced a very special show to follow their Ramblin’ Man performance, taking place at London's The Big Red next Monday 2nd July. The intimate gig will follow their main stage appearance at this year’s Ramblin’ Man Fair in Mote Park, Maidstone, Kent, this Saturday 30th June, and ahead of their UK tour with Black Stone Cherry this December, including a date at London’s Wembley Arena. The festival marks the band’s first UK performance since their headline tour in November last year, which included a sold-out date at the O2 Kentish Town Forum, and the release of their latest album, 'Legacy'. The album features the hits ‘American Slang’, which received extensive airplay on BBC Radio 2, and ‘Dang If We Didn’t’, which was A-listed at Planet Rock Radio and reached #2 in their airplay chart, alongside the current single ‘Demolition Man’ (today's Video Of The Day).

Cool Britannia 27/6/18

This Summer sees the launch of a brand new epic music festival Cool Britannia —which will take place at Knebworth, — the stately home of Rock, from Friday 31st August - Sunday 2nd September. Maxi Jazz of Faithless has recently been confirmed for a personal DJ set on the Main Stage on the Sunday which will also be headlined over the weekend by Happy Mondays and Ocean Colour Scene —with amazing supporting artists including Feeder, Razorlight, Embrace, The Lightning Seeds, Peter Hook & The Light, Cast, Heather Small, Dodgy, Space, Toploader and The South, with more still to be announced. Cool Britannia has also teamed up with the legendary Ministry of Sound. Housed in the Big Top, they will feature some of the best club DJ's of the era including Todd Terry, Brandon Block, Jazzie B and Alfredo. Ramblin' Man Fair Countdown - Thomas Wynn And The Believers 26/6/18

With just four days to go now to the start of this year's Ramblin' Man Fair in Mote Park, Maidstone, Kent - Orlando’s Thomas Wynn And The Believers kick off The Outlaw Countrsy Stage this Saturday 30th June. After a hugely successful UK tour with The Temperance Movement earlier this year, they have just got off the road from a US Tour with Myles Kennedy who is also playing The Outlaw Country Stage later in the day. They will be playing songs from their new album 'Wade Waist Deep’ (Video Of The Day), which was released in May 2017 via Mascot Records/Mascot Label Group and recorded with four-time Grammy award-winning producer, Vance Powell (The White Stripes, Jack White, Chris Stapleton). The album is packed with deep Southern heat, complex, pulsing rhythms and breath-taking ‘blood’ harmonies from brother and sister Thomas and Olivia. Thomas Wynn And The Believers also play London's The Black Heart next Wednesday 4th July.

Take Your Chevy To The Levee Tonite 26/6/18

When Broken Levee made their debut at The Tuesday Night Music Club, and their debut in the South, they got a standing ovation from a packed house. No mean feat for a band that very few had heard of before that show. Now, having released a new EP, 'Last Light', and having recorded a live album, they are back tonight at The Comrades Club, Coulsdon CR5 2NF. But they are back in an expanded guise as they are bringing the extraordinarily talented Lindsay Hannon with them. Not only that, but Broken Levee also feature on today's Blues On The Radio Track Of The Day along with Wily Bo Walker, Sayer & Joyce, Deb Ryder, Trevor Babajack Steger and more.

Out In The Fields 26/6/18

Fields Of The Nephilim recently announced three very special UK headline performances for this Autumn to celebrate the dark energies of 'Samhain'. The Goth-Rock legends will play Manchester’s O2 Ritz on Monday 29th October, London’s O2 Shepherds Bush Empire on Wednesday 31st October and the O2 Institute, Birmingham on Thursday 1st November. These three shows – encompassing All Hallows Eve and The Day of the Dead – will also celebrate the 30th anniversary of the band’s revered anthem ‘Moonchild’. Fields Of The Nephilim will be joined by Australian dark art Rockers The Church, who will in turn be celebrating the 30th anniversary of their album 'Starfish'.

Ramblin' Man Fair Countdown - The Rocket Dolls 25/6/18

Explosive Brighton based Heavy Rock trio The Rocket Dolls released their new full length studio album 'DeadHead' in April (see today's Video Of The Day) and the band play Ramblin' Man Fair's Rising Stage this Saturday 30th June. Featuring just the right amount of melody with straight up hook laden driven riffs combined with curveballs when you least expect them, 'DeadHead' is a must hear album for 2018. Relentless in their approach, The Rocket Dolls have taken the Rock mould, smashed it, and then meticulously pieced it back together again to deliver a fresh contemporary collection of music that combines the best bits of Heavy Rock, Grunge, Punk and Pop smart sensibilities. It's clear the band have spent time wisely crafting their second album, as it's a monster!

Ladies Of The Blues Returns 25/6/18

Solid Entertainments have announced the third in their Ladies Of The Blues tour series with another great line up of three ladies fronting each of their own bands, all together on one exclusive UK tour which includes London's Water Rats on Tuesday 20th November. The line-up features Lee Ainley's Blues Storm, who we introduced you to recently, with the unique vocal pairing of mother and daughter Lee and Tori, plus Blues Rock guitar player/slinger Eliana Cargnelutti from Northern Italy and the powerhouse vocals of Zoe Green and her band. A tour not to be missed!

A Powerhouse Full Of Blues 25/6/18

Today's Black On Blues Podcast Track Of The Day is another Blues women special featuring Rory Block, Dana Fuchs (pictured), Victoria Ginty, Teresa James, Crystal Shawanda and Debbie Bond.

Ramblin' Man Fair Countdown - Von Hertzen Brothers 24/6/18

With the all important Ramblin' Man Fair stage timings imminent, today we turn our attention to the Von Hertzen Brothers (Video Of The Day) who are playing the Prog In The Park Stage at Mote Park, Maidstone, on Sunday 1st July. We interviewed the award winning Finnish Rockers at HRH 11 last November and last years ‘War Is Over’ album was met with huge praise and saw them take a fresh approach with their songwriting. Their sonic exploration has seen them blaze a trail across Europe since 2006, leading them to play with artists from Foo Fighters, 30 Seconds to Mars, Neil Young, Biffy Clyro, The Wildhearts and  ZZ Top to  Anathema and  Opeth.

Eye Of The Tiger 24/6/18

The iconic 80's Canadian Rock band Glass Tiger, best known for their 1986 UK Top 40 hit single 'Don’'t Forget Me When I'm Gone' (today's Track Of The Day) and 1991’'s 'My Town' ft. Rod Stewart, return to the UK for the first time in 27 years to play two rare concerts. The band last came to the UK when they supported Roxette on their 1991 nationwide UK tour. Glass Tiger play the University of London Union on Friday 19th October, followed by the Rockingham Festival at Nottingham Trent University on Sunday 21st October. To celebrate their 30th anniversary, earlier this year Glass Tiger released a new album entitled “'31”' which includes two new songs and re-imagined recordings of all their hit singles. The band includes original members Alan Frew on vocals and guitar, Sam Reid on keyboards, Al Connelly on guitar and Wayne Parker on bass, plus long-time drummer Chris McNeill who joined in 2000.

Ramblin' Man Fair Countdown - Kris Barras Band 24/6/18

Today check out some additional Kris Barras Band photos here (courtesy of Bruce Biege) from his Tuesday night gig at London's Borderline. Of course Devon born and ex-cage/MMA fighter Kris is also playing the Ramblin' Man Fair Blues Stage at Mote Park, Maidstone, next Sunday 1st July. It's been an incredible start to 2018 for Barras, who released his new album ‘The Divine & Dirty’ in March, his recent UK headline tour sold out dates across the country and he joined  Beth Hart as support on her recent UK tour. After Ramblin' Man Fair, he will also join Supersonic Blues Machine as singer/guitarist alongside  ZZ Top’s Billy F. Gibbons as well as an October support tour with Joanne Shaw Taylor.

WRC Finally Breakout 23/6/18

Was it really three years ago that we were preparing to see the Foo Fighters return to Wembley Stadium for the first time since their record breaking shows of 2008? Of course, news broke as the WRC headed down to Brighton the previous Saturday, that Foo Fighters frontman Dave Grohl had sustained "at least one fracture" when he fell off the stage during a concert in Gothenburg, Sweden. Consequently the Wembley gig was cancelled and last night we finally caught up with Grohl and his gang at London's Olympic Stadium - and boy was it worth waiting for! With a set list that included favourites such as 'Breakout', My Hero' and 'Times Like These', plus great support from Wolf Alice and Frank Carter & The Rattlesnakes - it was a night to savour as testified by today's Video Of The Day.

Durham Blues Festival Today 23/6/18

Yes the big day has finally arrived - the Durham Blues Festival at the Chilton Country Pub & Hotel DH4 6PY starts at 2pm today with a mouthwatering line up of best in Blues featuring headliners Climax Blues Band plus Chantel McGregor, Laurence Jones, Ken Pustelnik's Groundhogs, Stevie Nimmo Trio, The Kris Barras Band and Felix Rabin.

Ridge Rocks Out Once Again 23/6/18

Today's WRC Award winning Rock On The Ridge Track Of The Day is last Saturday's show featuring 4th Labyrinth, Gin Annie, Monster Truck, Killer Boogie, The New Breed, Richie Kotzen, The Magpie Salute, The Outlaw Orchestra, Massive Wagons, Led Zeppelin, Ryders Creed, Fireroad, The Black Marbles, Hollowstar, Riot Horse, Big River, Graveyard, Jeff Beck, Oli Brown, The Pineapple Thief, Blacktop Mojo, Inglorious (pictured), Avenged Sevenfold and The Sea Within.

The Kris Barras Band - Borderline Review 22/6/18

"The band are a tight unit with the rhythm section of Will Beavis (thirteen years service) on drums and Elliott Blackler on bass. On keyboards we find Josiah J. Manning who brings the variety to the band among the guitar base of the band, but who is also the band's producer. Kris brings the gravel-style Bluesy Rock vocal along the lines of Sheffield's Joe Cocker and a mean dirty guitar played with precision. Back to the set, the train rolls on with two songs from the latest album 'Propane' and the catchy 'Hail Mary', the latter of which everyone joins in (if you're going to get your crowd to sing, make it an easy lyric). 'Heart On Your Sleeve' brings out some Country influences as they cross genres with the Blues and Southern Rock influences in their catalogue."

Today read Geoff C's The Kris Barras Band Borderline review from Tuesday night here plus check out our Photo Gallery including support band Rainbreakers courtesy of Geoff and Bruce Biege here.

Stone Free Festival - Day 2 Review 21/6/18

"Finishing with their anthemic 'Forever Young' the crowd warmly applaud them off the stage before rushing to see the closing act on the Orange stage, The Bad Flowers. I say rushing, most are happy to stop for beers along the way, but still ensure the Black Country trio get a lot of love. Frontman and guitarist Tom Leighton provides the front line alone whilst bassist Dale Tonks, complete with  Monster Truck t-shirt, takes centre stage, albeit a small one, showing that bassists need love too. Making up the naughty blooms is drummer Karl Selickis doing a fine job of keeping the two frontmen in their rhythmic place. As a trio, they work damn hard, with Leighton's Les Paul and wah pedal getting some mileage and Tonks bass solo showing a commendable work ethic. With tracks like 'Thunder Child' in their repertoire, they show they are a force to be reckoned with. Showing an emotional thanks to the audience for the support they have received the set closes the excellent Orange stage for the day and the festival. The Bad Flowers - a great bunch."

London Town Like Alice 21/6/18

We're indebted to regular WRC contributor Phil Honley for today's Video Of The Day. In Phil's opinion, possibly gig of the year so far as Alice In Chains played London's O2 Shepherds Bush Empire last Sunday. Phil added that the Rock band from Seattle does not give us the pleasure of its company too often in the UK but when it does, boy is it worth the wait. Phil also points out that the sound quality of  his video in no way reflects the sound on the night! The sound on the night was first class from the very first number but Phil was shooting with a low spec camera from the Level 1 balcony!

Blues Club Catch Up 21/6/18

We continue to play catch up with last week's The Blues Club Podcast which is today's Track Of The Day with another two hours of non-stop Best in Blues with More Music and Less Chat, plus guest  Nigel Day from the NCB Radio's Sunday Blues Brunch Show featuring New Releases, Classic Tracks, UK Independent Blues Broadcasters Association Presenters' Picks and much more. Music this week includes tracks from Tas Cru, London Blusion, Sayer & Joyce, Buddy Guy, The Record Company,  Deb Ryder, Chris Bevington, The Cinelli Brothers,  Jamie Williams & The Roots Collective,  Greg Coulson, Waydown Wailers, Tom Hambridge, Nick Steed,  Grand Marquis, Mitch Laddie Band,  Bridget Kelly Band,  Jon Cleary,  Heritage Blues Orchestra, Dana Fuchs, Joe Rusi, Bobby Rush,  Jeff Jensen, Artur Menezes,  Red's Blues, Peggie Perkins, Brother Strut, Jack J Hutchinson (pictured), Led Zeppelin,  Big Bad Voodoo Daddy and more.

It's Only Rock 'n Roll But We Like It 20/6/18

Nearly twelve years after we last saw them performing at Twickenham Stadium, the Rolling Stones returned to Rugby Union's HQ for the latest leg of their 'No Filter' tour with another storming set which belied their advancing years. Indeed these orginal wrinkly rockers, ably supported by James Bay, proved once again that age is temporary but class is permanent as testified by today's Video Of The Day!

Barras Borderline Tonight 20/6/18

With just eleven days to go to Ramblin' Man Fair in Mote Park, Maidstone - today we turn our attention to WRC favourite The Kris Barras Band who seem to be continually on the road, after recently supporting Beth Hart, and following Camden Rocks, they take in London's Borderline tonight. As well as Ramblin' Man Fair on Sunday 1st July, Kris himself then joins up with Supersonic Blues Machine for their tour which begins at London's Shepherd's Bush Empire on Wednesday 4th July before getting back with his band in October to support Joanne Shaw Taylor on her UK tour !

Ramblin' Man Fair Countdown - Laurence Jones 19/6/18

"That guy just keeps getting better and better!" was just one of the many compliments passed Laurence's way, as well as to his band who were awesome. A setlist comprising, in the majority, of new tracks from his yet to be released album was a bold move - but his set's balance of new stuff plus his own favourites and fan favourites hit the right chord as the 25 year old pulled it off big time. His fans, obviously now salivatating at the thought of the new release in over a month's time, can also look forward to his nationwide tour in May plus an appearance at Holland's International Blues Festival in June. Do not miss him." That was part of our Laurence Jones gig review at London's Borderline in January this year and Laurence (Video Of The Day) returns to the South when he plays Ramblin' Man Fair's Blues Stage at Mote Park in Maidstone on Sunday 1st July.

Cracking Blues On The Radio 19/6/18

Stone Free Festival - Day 1 Review 18/6/18

"Closing the Orange stage, and vying for band of the day are Aaron Buchanan and the Cult Classics. The former Heaven's Basement front man has created his own band although the set contained a number of Heaven's Basement tracks. No complaints from me, I love Heaven's Basement. But this is a new animal. Aaron's sister Laurie wields a mean Fender Telecaster whilst Tom McCarthy assists with a stunning Gordon Smith Les Paul style white guitar. The short set includes a number of tracks from their delightfully named 'The Man With Stars On His Knees' album sprinkled with the aforementioned Heaven's Basement tracks - including a firm favourite, 'Fire Fire'. Aaron is known as a huge Freddie Mercury fan and the album includes a number of tracks with Queen like harmonies. Today saw a rawer approach with hard guitars and hard singing. After handing out a couple of freebie beers to members of the audience (I was lucky enough to receive one - it has in no way influenced this review.....) Aaron proceeds to draw the crowd closer into a compact mass to enable to surf his way onto their shoulders before finishing the song with a headstand whilst still perched precariously on the crowds shoulders. The rakishly thin warbler, all boots and braces, has never been known to be shy."

Joe Bonamassa - Hampton Court Review 17/6/18

"It took until the fourth track on his set list and embarking on one of his own new slow Bluesy songs, ‘Self Inflicted Wounds’, another from his forthcoming September studio album, for Joe at last to find solace in his performance.  Finally you could see the Blues wash away any anxiety and concern in him as he poured himself, along with the saxophonist and the rest of his entourage, into the entrancing, haunting guitar riffs and soulful structure of this song.  From here on, touched by this and at one with their favoured Blues performer, the audience was led towards accepting the unrestricted freedom of their musical pleasure by embracing the concert with a more passionate approach."

Following our recent well deserved break, we recommence our usual coverage today as we play catch up with some outstanding podcasts. Anyway, today's Blues On The Radio Track Of The Day is an hour populated with music from 11 new releases and 1 from ten years ago including Victoria Ginty, The Cinelli Brothers, Big River, Dustin Douglas & The Electric Gentlemen, Oli Brown and more.

Stone Free Countdown - Killit 16/6/18

Well the big weekend is finally here as the O2 Arena Stone Free Festival kicks off at midday today with Nitroville on the Orange Amps Stage followed by Killit at 12.45pm. In fact we interviewed Rock/Metal band Killit (Video Of The Day) at Ramblin' Man Fair in July last year after their awesome opening set on The Rising Stage. Indeed, we managed to catch more than a few words from the guys/gal in probably one of our best interviews ever, if not the most mental, as we discussed how this multi-national band got together plus their plans for a new album/gigs, as they battled to get their voices heard over the RM PA system in the background!

Beck's Plays Chelsea Tonight 15/6/18

"Seeing ‘Sharp Dressed Man’ live should be on everyone’s bucket list and before we knew it the guys were off and back on again for that special Jeff Beck encore – which brought back memories of the first time I saw that space age vid of ‘Rough Boy’ on TV." Just under three years ago we witnessed a blistering Wembley Arena set from Houston Rockers ZZ Top that not only ended with a (hi ho) silver lining but also literally icing on the cake as Jeff Beck guested on his 71st birthday (Video Of The Day)! Anyway, Beck returns to London tonight at Royal Hospital Chelsea supported by Imelda May.

Slim Chance At Eel Pie Tonight 14/6/18

We caught Slim Chance (Video Of The Day) at London's Borderline in January 2014 - a fantastic set which actually won them our 'Best Acoustic' 2014 WRC Award! Turn the clock back a further 38 years (ouch) and we also saw them of course with the late Ronnie Lane at Olympia's Great British Music Festival along with the esteemed company of The Pretty Things, Nazareth, Charlie, Be Bop Deluxe and some band called Bad Company! Impressive eh? Well we also took in Slim Chance at Twickenham's famous Eel Pie Club in August 2016 - the line-up now featuring original members, Charlie Hart (who we interviewed before the gig), Steve Simpson and Steve Bingham - and the guys return to The Patch, 67 London Road, Twickenham TW1 3SZ, tonight Doors open at 8.15pm with music from 9-11pm. WRC members are reminded that they can use their cards to get discounted admission.

Stone Free Countdown - Yes 13/6/18

Celebrating their 50th Anniversary with two additional UK shows in Newcastle last night and York tonight, the legendary YES (Video Of The Day), featuring Jon Anderson, Trevor Rabin and Rick Wakeman, will be headlining this year’s Stone Free Festival at The O2 in London, this Sunday at 8.15pm.

Bonamassa At Court Tonight 12/6/18

Celebrated Blues-Rock guitarist and singer-songwriter Joe Bonamassa (Video Of The Day) plays the Hampton Court Palace Festival tonight. Following his successful tour, including two sold out concerts at London’'s Royal Albert Hall in April 2017, Joe returned to the UK this March to perform seven concerts which featured a hand-picked group of world-class musicians playing material from 'Blues of Desperation', plus classic Bonamassa fan favourites. Watch out shortly for our review of tonight's gig.

Stone Free Countdown - Aaron Buchanan & The Cult Classics 11/6/18

"We then headed towards the media area for the first of our six - yes six - interviews during the afternoon. Step forward former Heaven's Basement vocalist and the nattily dressed Aaron Buchanan with his equally stylish sister Laurie who was also a guitarist in Aaron Buchanan And The Cult Classics who were playing the Rising Stage in ninety minutes. We had seen Aaron and Heaven's Basement supporting Aerosmith at Clapham's Calling Festival just over three year's ago and in a really frank discussion Aaron talked about life after Heaven's Basement how ABATCC got together and their new album 'The Man With Stars On His Knees'." That was part of our Ramblin' Man Fair review from Saturday last year - the bad news being that after our interview we actually managed to miss Aaron's set! The good news is that we will rectify that on the Orange Amps Stage at the Stone Free Festival this Saturday as his band, who are today's Video Of The Day, headline at 4.45pm.

McGarvey Borderline Tonight

Award winning guitarist Ryan McGarvey returns to London tonight and in particular The Borderline supported by Mark Pontin Group plus Sugerman Sam & The Voodoo Men. McGarvey's reputation as a guitarist, songwriter and performer continues to grow. He has played with Eric Clapton at the Crossroads Guitar Festival in Chicago and also joined Joe Bonamassa on a recent Blues Cruise. Ryan loves to work and has conducted a number of very successful European tours  - his debut CD release 'Forward In Reverse' reached the top 20 on CDBaby.com the World’s largest online independent distributor! Ryan McGarvey is heading for the top – catch him whilst you can.

Darker Shades Of Blue 11/6/18

Today's Black On Blues Track Of The Day is dedicated to the memory of Blues legend, Ed Clearwater, who died recently at 83. This week's podcast is another popular Blues women special featuring Deb Ryder, Ally Venable, Dana Fuchs (pictured), Annie 2 Cu Blues Band, Lauren Anderson, Michele Malone and Pam Taylor.

When I'm Lost In Music I Am Found 10/6/18

"6 Years’ is probably the most commercial song on here and has a nice rhythm to it, and whilst not destined for massive radio airplay, it’s easily the most memorable track and the one that could see Joe reaching a wider audience. The meandering instrumental ‘Science Museum’ follows and is pleasant enough followed by both ‘Speed Of Darkness’ and ‘The Beginning Is Near’ which keep the momentum going, the first sounds intentionally messy but interesting none the less, the latter with its slightly fuzzy guitar and is yet another track from Joe with a multitude of layers, which again captures the grey matter’s attention."

Read Phil C's complete take on Joe Head's 'When I'm Lost In Music I Am Found' here

Stone Free Countdown - Richie Kotzen 10/6/18

"Finishing of the set, Kotzen is back on the Telecaster for a funky  finale with Wilson slapping the bass like a new born baby on 'Help Me'. Even in his weakened state, Kotzen is back for an encore on keyboards with 'This Is Life' before switching to the trustee Strat for a final flurry of what we came to see – six string perfection. With a final wave to the audience he virtually falls off stage looking like an extra from The Walking  Dead." That was part of our take on Richie Kotzen's Islington Assembly Hall gig last September and as part of our Stone Free Festival countdown, Richie - who is headlining the Indigo at The O2 at 4pm on Sunday 17th June - is today's Video Of The Day.

The Shape Of Blues To Come 10/6/18

The Apocalypse Blues Revue is back with their sophomore album, 'The Shape Of Blues To Come' which is due for release on Friday 20th July on Provogue Records. 'The Shape Of Blues To Come' is that rarest of beasts, a second album that is not just better than their first, but one that defines what the band is at this point, and one that points directly to where the band is going. This is not just a side project, this is a band that exists separately from guitarist Tom Rombola and drummer Shannon Larkin's huge success with Godsmack, this is a band that will be making music for years to come. Anyway, watch and listen to 'Hell To Pay' - the new song from 'A Shape Of Blues To Come' which is today's Track Of The Day.

The Music Of Cream Tour 9/6/18

Following their successful inaugural tour across Australia and New Zealand in 2017, the pedigree of hallowed ‘60's trio Cream plus –Ginger Baker’'s son Kofi (drums), Jack Bruce’'s son Malcolm (bass, vocals) and Eric Clapton’'s nephew Will Johns (guitar, vocals) –have come together for the first time in the UK to pay homage to the band’s extraordinary legacy with The Music Of Cream –50th Anniversary World Tour. The four-date UK tour, which starts at the Glasgow O2 Academy on Friday 23rd November, celebrates 50 years since the original line-up's farewell UK concert at the Royal Albert Hall in London on 26th November 1968. Be prepared to hear personal stories and songs such as 'Sunshine of Your Love', 'Crossroads', 'Spoonful' and 'White Room' performed across a comprehensive set, which will also see the guys interplay with footage of their fathers and mentors on the big screen, along with never-before-seen footage and photos.

Stone Free Countdown - Jared James Nichols 9/6/18

"As expected, JJN's beast of a trio, duly delivered more hair, energy in abundance and white teeth, but more importantly, 70's Power Rock at its ultimate best. JJN mixed it up - airing amongst others the first three tracks from 'Black Magic' namely his single 'Last Chance', the Hendrix influenced riff of 'The Gun' and 'Don't Be Scared', before he teased "London don't be shy", an open invite for us all to head bang to his classic 'Baby Can You Feel It?', plus he nailed his 70's influences to the mast as he signed off a storming set with a cover of Mountain's 'Mississippi Queen'. Now this was real Rock 'n' Roll - and not only a great voice but also validation of the equation that a Les Paul = Blues Power." That was part of our Jared James Nichols gig review at Islington Assembly Hall in February this year and as part of our Stone Free Festival countdown, JJN, who is appearing at Indigo at The O2 at 12.50pm on Sunday 17th June, is today's Track Of The Day.

Daddy's Little Girl 9/6/18

Our friends at Deep Blue Sea have just completed mixing a new live album - which was also filmed - so there's going to be quite a few new clips flying around and consequently a nice new shiny YouTube channel for them. Anyway, don't only check out today's Video Of The Day of 'Daddy's Girl' but also visit their new site - and like their videos and follow them? You know it makes sense!

Stone Free Countdown - Joanne Shaw Taylor 8/6/18

"There are few finer sights than an unleashed JST with a Les Paul. Easy tiger, remember where you are. The Les Paul remains too for 'Jump That Train' from the 'Diamonds In The Dirt' album, whose, title track follows thereafter. With a proper heavy Blues riff it has a funky lilt to it which Italian icon Casanova provides his own lesson in love. The excellent sound quality again shows itself as the Gibson provides a beautiful melodic chime to counter the almost soft husky vocals. And with the sultry 'Tried Tested And True' to follow we really are getting the full (royal) family of tracks. All interspersed with regular sips of honey and lemon to keep the voice going. It sounds fine to me." That was part of our take on Joanne Shaw Taylor's Royal Festival Hall gig last November and as part of our Stone Free Festival countdown, Joanne - who is on stage at 5.45 at the O2 Arena on Sunday 17th June - is today's Video Of The Day.

Stone Free Countdown - Triggerfinger 7/6/18

Antwerp’s Triggerfinger (Track Of The Day) will be at London's Stone Free Festival at the Indigo 2 at The O2 at 2pm on Saturday 16th June following the release of their new album ‘Colossus' in August last year. The Belgian based trio (Ruben Block, vocals and guitar; Paul Van Bruystegem, bass; Mario Goossens, drums) have been exploding across Europe, which also saw them support Muse on their sold out 50,000 capacity Stadium show in Aix-les-Bains, France and Park Live Festival in Russia. Insatiable for the live stage they have opened for the Red Hot Chilli Peppers, The Rolling Stones (twice), Within Temptation, Thin Lizzy, Clutch, Big Sugar and Therapy?

Hogjaw On UK Tour 7/6/18

Though hailing from the Arizona deserts, Hogjaw are no strangers to European shores. Last year, the band played more than 40 headline shows across mainland Europe, supporting the release of their new album, ‘Way Down Yonder’ (on Snakefarm Records). From late September through to mid-November 2017, Hogjaw visited 11 different countries, playing to sold-out houses along the way. Now, in 2018, it’s time for the UK to feel the power of The ’Jaw first-hand, with a debut headline run confirmed for October including London's O2 Islington Academy 2 on Wednesday 10th. Hogjaw are four longstanding friends (“Four fingers folded into a fist”, as they put it): JB Jones (vocals and guitar), Jimmy Rose (lead guitar), Elvis DD (bass) and Kwall (drums). ‘Way Down Yonder’ is their sixth studio album and sees the boys delivering 11 tracks of “hard hitting Southern-fried electric guitar rock”, pulling no punches and leaving not one goddam shot on the bar.

Stonedeaf Festival 2018 6/6/18

It will take place at Newark Showground on Saturday 25th August, with camping available on the Friday and Saturday nights. Confirmed are Skid Row, The Quireboys, The Graham Bonnet Band, Anvil, Massive Wagons, Hand of Dimes, Chrome Molly and Fallen Mafia, with DJ hellhound spinning the discs between the bands. For further ticket information go here.

Stone Free Countdown - Scorpions 6/6/18

"However, it was 1990’s mega-hit ‘Wind Of Change’ that proved to be among the evening’s highlights. A song synonymous with the fall of the Berlin Wall, the band even replicated the structure visually, via the huge video screens that covered most of the stage. Led by Klaus Meine, there was some heavy metal whistling of Premiership-standards. The set ended with a blazing finale of ‘Rock You Like A Hurricane’ after a brilliant ‘Still Loving You’. It’s quite simply fantastic to see a great set from a band that’s been in the business for 50 years and still hitting it up strong, quite simply the perfect end to a classic night. That brought day one of Ramblin’ Man Fair to a close. If that is the last time I see them - well The Scorpions I salute you!" We continue our Stone Free Festival countdown with a look back at our take on the Scorpions at Ramblin' Man Fair (pictured) in July 2015 (Video Of The Day). Don't forget that the band return as headliner's at London's O2 Arena on Saturday 16th June at 9.15pm.

Wicked Rock On The Ridge 6/6/18

On today's WRC Award winning Rock On The Ridge Podcast Track Of The Day, originally broadcast on Saturday night, we have music from Wicked Stone, Audrey Horne, Freedom Hawk, Graveyard, Doomsday Outlaw, Ryders Creed, Hollowstar (pictured), Bigfoot, Everyday Heroes, Black Stone Cherry, Rival Sons, The Doors, The Underground Thieves, Falling into Red, Like A Storm, Preacher Stone, Greta Van Fleet, Dirty Thrills, Tax The Heat, Val Cale, John Mayall and on their 'Introducing Stage' - two in a row from Magpie Toes.

Ten Out Of Ten 5/6/18

"Since reforming in 2016 with drummer, programmer and fellow founder member Steve Monti, guitarist Andy Spillane and dreadlocked bassist Davey Bennet, they have clearly dusted off and modernised their unmistakable signature sound, melding massive doses of Rock, Metal, a little electronica and neo-psychedelic shoegaze elements. Slam dunk winners of the best tats on display at Camden Rocks, their atmospheric set included seven songs, 'One Of Us' , 'Unknown', Follow You Down', 'Used', their excellent and very first single from the album 'Take A Long Hard Look', 'Scarred' and 'Spray' - the title track from their 2002 album, testimony to the time when they were voted ‘Best British Heavy Metal Band’ in Metal Hammer. Holliday (think Daryl out of 'The Walking Dead') is the perfect frontman for their brand of passionate, unconstrained anger that morphs into melancholy toughness that meets a Metallic dirtiness, although Rob did show his lighter side by lobbing some merchandise into the crowd and shouting "nice catch!"

Stone Free Countdown - Vambo 5/6/18

Vambo release their intensely honest and dynamic new single ‘Why Why Why’ (today's Video Of The Day) on Thursday 14th June, on Goliath Records, a new Rock label via Universal. Indeed on Sunday 17th June Vambo are on the Orange Amps Stage at 12.45pm at London's O2 Arena Stone Free Festival and this will give the audience the opportunity to witness live the sonic impact of their show. Vambo's classy and original Rock ‘n’ Roll will grip you from the very first hearing and simply refuse to let go. Currently working on their debut album, 2018 promises to be very good year for Vambo and fans of honest Rock ’n’ Roll.  Vambo know the value of a good tune and with their unique, incendiary blend of rocked out rhythms, scorching solos and lung-busting Blues laden soulful vocals, they  are always guaranteed to gain new fans!

Click Play & Turn It Up Again! 5/6/18

On today's Blues On The Radio Podcast Track Of The Day, host Richard Dunning tried to squeeze tracks from The Voodoo Sheiks, Buddy Guy, The Cinelli Brothers, Tom Hambridge, Chris Bevington Organisation, Benjamin Bassford, Waydown Wailers, Mitch Laddie Band, Russ Green, Deb Ryder, Greg Coulson, Dan McKinnon and Wily Bo Walker into an hour... And he duly managed it!

Camden Rocks - Photo Gallery 4/6/18

"In fact a consensus of opinion concluded that we actually saw the best band of the day, first at The Underworld, at Midday! The last time we saw London based Rock group Dirty Thrills was last September at a special launch party for their latest album, ‘Heavy Living’ just down the road at The Crowndale (formerly the Purple Turtle) - where these guys proved once again that they are well and truly on the up. Indeed, we first saw Louis James - lead vocals and harmonica, Jack Fawdry - guitar, backing vocals, Steve Corrigan - drums and Aaron Plows – bass, back in August 2015 plus we also saw them on the Ramblin' Man Fair Rising Stage in 2016, and in 2017 they returned to Ramblin' Man on the Grooverider Stage - affirmation if needed that Dirty Thrills were going places." With our Camden Rocks Festival review in the pipeline - today we have our photo gallery from the day here including Dirty Thrills (pictured).

Stone Free Countdown - Tyketto 4/6/18

We continue our Stone Free Festival countdown with Tyketto who are at the Indigo at the O2 Arena at 2.45pm on Sunday 17th June. Their debut album ’Don’t Come Easy’, is considered a landmark release among Melodic Hard Rock albums of the late 80’s/early 90’s. While the band has continued to put out high quality recordings ever since, fans and critics alike hold it in especially high regard. Following their most recent studio album ‘Reach’ in 2016, Tyketto played Frontiers Rock Festival IV in Milan last year and performed ‘Don’t Come Easy’ in its entirety, along with other gems from their repertoire. With a line-up comprised of founding members Danny Vaughn (vocals) and Michael Clayton Arbeeny (drums), plus guitar whizz Chris Green and keyboard player Ged Rylands (TEN), Tyketto co-headlined Day 1 of the festival and blew the roof off with their performance of this classic album from back to front (yes, back to front!). Cameras were there to capture every moment and this unique performance was released on CD/DVD (see today's Video Of The Day).

Steaming Through The Blues 4/6/18

Today's Black On Blues Podcast Track Of The Day features AJ Sorensen, Josh Hoyer, Blind Lemon Pledge, Chris Daniels & The Kings, David Philips, Jeff Jensen and Ian Siegal (pictured).

Today sees the launch of the second of two new Blues, Rhythm & Rock Festivals in Leicester, featuring award winning headline and guest acts including legendary names and some of the best new talent on the Blues circuit. Don't forget, as a very special thank you to everyone who has supported these festivals and bought tickets, anyone with tickets from yesterday's Newport Festival can also use them at Leicester Arena today - a real 'two for one!' With headliner Walter Trout, who has just won 'Lifetime Contribution' at the European Blues awards, it's bound to be another cracking day, with great support from Ken Pustelnik's Groundhogs, Ben Poole and the Mark Pontin Group - to name but a few.

See you down the front!

Friday Night's Alright For Drinking 2/6/18

Unlike last year (pictured) - the bad news is that Big Boy Bloater & The LiMiTs are not appearing at Camdon Rocks this year. However, the good news is that they will be releasing their brand new album 'Pills' on Friday 15th June via Provogue/Mascot Label Group. Following on from 2016’s 'Luxury Hobo', Britain's larger-than-life Blues personality re-focusses himself and 'Pills' is a reflection of him having a clearer head. Recorded in December 2017 with producer Adam Whalley, the band trimmed down to a power trio of Big Boy (vocals/guitar), Matt Cowley (drums) and Steven Oates (bass) for the new album and today's Video Of The 'Friday Night's Alright For Drinking' is taken from the new album. Not only that but the guys are hitting the road this September and October in support of 'Pills' including London's The Black Heart on Wednesday 19th September.

Newport/Leicester Blues 2 For 1 2/6/18

This weekend also sees the launch of two new Blues, Rhythm & Rock Festivals today at Newport and tomorrow in Leicester, which sees award winning headline and guest acts including legendary names and some of the best new talent on the Blues circuit. As a very special thank you to everyone who has supported these festivals and bought tickets, your ticket is now going to be valid for both dates, so Newport tickets keep and they can also be used in Leicester, and everyone with Leicester tickets can also use them for Newport, a real 'two for one!' Indeed Newport headliner King King have just won 'Best Bues Band' in the UK Blues awards, together with 'Best Album' and 'Best Songwriter', whilst Leicester headliner Walter Trout has just won 'Lifetime Contribution' at the European Blues awards.

Camden Rocks - Press To MECO 1/6/18

With just one day to go to the Camden Rocks Festival, Press to MECO are playing Dingwalls at 4.15pm tomorrow. Press to MECO recently released their second album 'Here's To The Fatigue' to rave reviews and you can check out their Sweeney Todd-style video for 'Familiar Ground' which is today's Video Of The Day. Consisting of  guitarist/vocalist Luke Caley, bassist/vocalist Adam Roffey and drummer/vocalist Lewis Williams - the trio have found creative inspiration in bands like SikTh, The Dillinger Escape Plan, Reuben, Everything Everything, Manchester Orchestra and Deftones; to pop artists ABBA and Michael Jackson. 2017 was a pivotal year for Press to MECO, building on their unconventional take on riffs, Pop hooks and 3-part vocal harmonies that have become a trade mark. The debut album ‘Good Intent’ was shortlisted for the 2016 AIM Independent Album of the Year, alongside Radiohead, Frank Carter and Skepta. This nomination gave the band a sense of legitimacy and renewed belief, that propelled them into writing their new album.
